When it comes to Instagram, Zanita Whittington is a pro—there’s a reason she's amassed 325,000 followers. As Whittington has countless fashion weeks under her very stylish belt, we tracked her down to discover her best tips for Instagramming during fashion week. It takes more than just a great outfit or perfectly timed runway shot to stand out among the sea of posts that go up each day.
We asked Zanita to spill on her top three secrets. Read on for her best advice, and then shop some pieces worthy of being shared on Instagram.
"During fashion week, all attendees spam their accounts with runway imagery, but it’s rarely well received by followers. Typically, when taken on a phone, the images are quite blurry and dark. Instead of posting immediately with an ‘OMG #amazing show’, take the photos on a real camera and load them later that night with a great edit and a considered review of the collection. Much better value for your followers and for the designer! I have a Photoshop course available that can help you improve your editing skills."
"There’s so much noise out there on Instagram, so it’s much tougher these days to make an impact. Great captions are more important than ever—you want to get as much of your voice and story out there as possible. If you’re posting a fashion week look, be sure to include your theories behind the styling or some tips about creating a great look. Followers will always appreciate a little more ‘added value’ and it’s great for comments and engagement."
"During fashion week, many followers tune out because the content is so repetitive. Try to find an original and creative angle that makes your content stand out—like writing all your captions in the theme of a David Attenborough documentary (funny!) or editing your images using a scrapbooking technique. This world belongs to those with great ideas!"
