5 Fashion Trends to Retire Now

I don't know about you, but I just dove into my wardrobe for a big closet clear-out. I've added lots of items to my donation pile, from some trendy ones I never got around to wearing to pieces that just no longer work in my wardrobe.

If you're similarly clearing out your closet of some items, here’s the good news: There are some really cool trends on our radar for the season ahead. Now’s the perfect time to test out rising trends and add some of the biggest pieces of the moment into your rotation. From the color that’s everywhere to the denim silhouette everyone’s wearing, I've picked out the coolest pieces to wear now.

Go on to find out the trends to consider retiring (and the ones to start wearing instead), and then shop my picks. And don’t forget—at the end of the day, you should really just wear what you love and feel the most comfortable in.

CONSIDER DITCHING: Rigid denim

WEAR: Baggy jeans

If runway looks and celeb outfits are any sign, baggy jeans are about to be the biggest denim trend in recent memory. That means you can say goodbye to all of the rigid jeans in your closet.

Shop the trend:

CONSIDER DITCHING: Neutrals

WEAR: Shades of pink

While neutrals were hugely popular last year, shades of pink—spotted on the S/S 22 runways at brands including Chanel, Valentino, and Roksanda—are the fresh color we’re seeing everywhere right now. While I'm personally a huge fan of neutrals and don't recommend getting rid of them entirely, I definitely think it's time for a fun dose of color.

CONSIDER DITCHING: Basic leggings

WEAR: Reinvented leggings

Regular leggings are still a functional piece that is great for a workout, but if you plan on wearing a pair with an everyday outfit, I'd recommend trying out a new shape. I'm especially loving split hems and stirrup leggings.

CONSIDER DITCHING: Nap dresses

WEAR: Revealing pieces

Clothing is changing right now in a way that I didn't expect. The more billowy and flowy nap-dress shapes we saw last year are being replaced with cutout pieces, micro miniskirts, and body-con silhouettes. One thing's for sure: Skin is in.

CONSIDER DITCHING: Super-chunky sneakers

WEAR: Utility boots

If you've been living in comfy shoes (like I have), you might want a fresh take on the pair you're slipping into. Enter utility boots. The silhouette I guarantee every fashion person will be wearing in the months ahead.
