This Accessory Designer Shares the Story Behind Her Breathtaking Wedding Gown

We’ve long been fans of Sydney-based Pared Eyewear—the label creates some of the coolest sunglasses we’ve ever seen (still thinking about this collaboration), it is always spotted on street stylers, and the label was the first eyewear brand accepted into the Australian Fashion Chamber. Not bad for a brand that only launched in 2011.

We like to keep up-to-date with our favourite brands via Instagram, and when we spotted the Pared Eyewear founders’ wedding hashtag back in April, we shamelessly stalked every single pic.

Samantha Stevenson and (creative and life) partner Edward Baker tied the knot in Palm Springs. The wedding had a classic, and elegant feel, with all-white décor against lush greenery.

Naturally, we wanted to know all the details about #THEDRESS, so we asked Samantha to give us the lowdown on how she found the one. Keep scrolling to read her story!

“I was so lucky to find my dress so quickly, it was the easiest part of planning the wedding. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted and was willing to keep an open mind. All I knew was that I wanted a simple silhouette—and the venue we chose definitely influenced the style as I wanted the wedding to be quite classic and black tie.”

“I didn’t want a traditional bridal dress and I was not prepared to step into a bridal store as I knew it wasn’t my style. I had been a bridesmaid previously and had visited so many bridal stores as part of my duties and nothing ever stood out for me.”

“I was meeting a friend for dinner in the city one night and was a little early, so I decided to look around before I met her and I found my dress (at Willow) before dinner! I wasn’t intending to find it that day as it was my first look.”

“It was the first dress that I tried and I knew it was perfect. It fit me so well and I only had to make a few minor adjustments to the dress a few weeks before the wedding. I didn’t try anything else on, even though the wedding was over a year away.”

“I then concentrated on finding all of the accessories (a pair of amazing Sophia Webster heels) and other outfits for the wedding and lead up. I ended up changing into a white Carla Zampatti jumpsuit after our first dance.”

“I’m asked if being a designer helped influence my dress choice—I think as a designer you are aware of the kind of lines and detailing that you like. Sometimes I think that it is harder being a designer as you are more visual and have a strong idea of what you want which may be hard to find and is generally why you set out to make it yourself!

I just wish I could go back and relive it again as it just all went too fast!”
