Where I Shop: This Digital Beauty Editor Reveals Her Hit List

In her latest column, our fashion contributor Eleanor Pendleton shares her favourite places to shop.

I know you’re here for one reason, and that’s to shop! As editor and publisher of Gritty Pretty, my day revolves around all things beauty, but I have a special place in my heart for fashion and lifestyle, too. Keep scrolling to find out where I like to drop my cash.

“The trendy boutique in Bondi Beach offers designs from big international names such as Alexander Wang, Chloé and Helmut Lang but also Australian designers like Bassike, Viktoria + Woods and Dion Lee. I recently purchased these Dior So Real Sunglasses from there and haven’t taken them off!”

“Located in an old church in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, this store has to be—hands down—the most beautiful boutique in Sydney. Parlour X stocks luxury brands like Céline, Valentino and Saint Laurent and owner Eva Galambos selects incredible pieces! I’m currently on their wait list for the Chloé Faye Bag in Motty Grey—I cannot wait to get my hands on it!”

“This boutique is literally a five second drive from my home so it’s my go-to for last-minute event dresses, bikinis or sandals. All of the girls there know how customer service should be done—attentive but not intrusive and always, always sincere and genuine. Their Instagram page will constantly have you tempted (they offer express shipping, BTW). Right now, I’m eyeing off this Christopher Esber dress.”

“When I say that here’s something for everyone, I really mean it. I buy most of my accessories at DJs and after a full day of shopping, I like to go for a meal from the Food Hall located at the entry level. You can’t leave without one of the chocolate coated strawberries—they’re ginormous!”

The Outnet

“Once upon a time, buying designer pieces on sale was considered sacrilege! Thankfully, it isn’t anymore. In fact, pick up a designer item on sale and you’ll now receive a lot of street cred amongst friends. I’m all about being savvy with money, which is why The Outnet is my go-to for picking up last season high-end designer items at up to 70% off. Also worth mentioning is The Outnet’s house label, Iris & Ink—they do some fantastic staple pieces.”

Shopbop’s email newsletters often tempt me! With hundreds of luxury and boutique designer labels, it’s easy to see why this digital destination is a no brainer. The easy-to-navigate trend reports can also leave you feeling inspired after you’ve clicked ‘add to cart’.”

Net-a-Porter

“I’ve been known to spend HOURS on Net-A-Porter, adding items to my wish list then carefully mulling over them for days before splurging on something nice like this Balenciaga bag or these Proenza Schouler shoes. The superior level of service, insanely fast shipping turnaround (I recently ordered a pair of shoes in the afternoon and they arrived the very next morning from overseas!) and luxurious signature packaging makes the Net-A-Porter experience second to none.”

“When it comes to beauty, Mecca knows how it’s done. With 67 stores located Australia-wide and brand exclusives such as NARS, Hourglass and Diptyque, Mecca really is a one-stop shop. The sales team are always friendly, well-informed and on hand if you need any beauty advice. Let’s just say I often have a hard time leaving this place empty-handed!”

“Thank goodness for Sephora, am I right ladies!? Stocking favourites such as Marc Jacobs Beauty, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Make Up For Ever, if you aren’t able to visit Sephora’s three Australian stores—Pitt Street Mall, Macquarie Centre or Melbourne Central—don’t fret. Everything is available on the beauty powerhouse’s e-commerce website at the click of a button.”

“This is the industry insider’s top destination for interiors. My team and I recently published a story for Gritty Pretty online magazine using all interiors from MCM House. They offer dreamy couches in crushed linen, mix and match furniture and more. While I’m yet to buy anything from here, for now it’s a place of pure inspiration. A girl can dream, right?”

“Brimming with luxe dark wood furniture, beach chic items (without being shabby) and artworks that will make you swoon, don’t step into Manyara Home unless you’re prepare to spend before walking out. Every time I go there, I literally go weak at the knees and want to buy EVERYTHING to furnish my apartment with. Because my style is very much Scandinavian with a touch of Sydney’s beaches, it is the ultimate homewares emporium!”
