Sometimes you come across people who seem to have lived nine lives. Leila Yavari—the fashion director of Stylebop—is one of those people. You’re probably familiar with her glossy locks, perfect eyebrows and impeccable style from the street style mentions she receives after every fashion week circuit. Apart from being a style wizard, she’s an ex-model and was one dissertation shy of earning her doctorate in political theory before that modelling career got in the way. Now, she heads-up one of the largest online fashion retailers, using her brains and fashionable eye to help shape the way we shop and what we wear.
Yavari described it best in a fashion interview with Elle. "Complex infrastructures and profound geo-political repercussions—not to mention one of the most complex and pervasive visual languages we have." And then fell even more in love.
Off the back of the recent Paris S/S 16 shows, we asked Yavari to round up the top five trends Australian women should be wearing right now. Keep scrolling to see her top picks.
“The day dress received plenty of attention from designers this season. I especially loved the versions from newcomer, Ellery, who with her first official calendar showing, proved she is definitely a talent to watch.”
“For me, the best case for lingerie dressing was at Céline. The feminine shapes and graphic accents against the soft volume of the trousers felt effortless and impossibly chic.”
“The house codes at Valentino were expertly woven with tribal references to produce couture-worthy pieces. I love the lightness, the accessories as well as the message of openness that underscored the whole collection.”
“Sarah Burton really outdid herself with this collection, reinventing pastoral romance for the present day. The Alexander McQueen signatures were all there, but spun with such lightness of touch, it felt completely fresh. One of her best.”
