Why This Fashion Blogger Attends Fashion Week (and How She Gets Through It)

Every May, the only thing the fashion industry wants to talk about is Fashion Week Australia. For the people on the inside—like designers, editors, stylists, celebrities, buyers, bloggers—it's an opportunity to see the Resort '18 collections up close. And for those who don't work in the fashion industry, you get a preview of what you'll be wearing next season.

The reason fashion week is an industry event is because everyone is there to serve a specific purpose. Designers are presenting their collections, editors are there to review and determine what deserves press coverage, stylists are there to see and understand a designer's vision and then incorporate looks into celebrity dressing or editorial photo shoots, celebrities are often there to support the designer (helps the label gain coverage), and buyers are there to determine what pieces they'll pick up for their store. But bloggers? Their role at fashion week is unique, in that they all operate in different ways to suit their personal brand.

"This year marks my 11th Fashion Week Australia! From when I was first doing work experience, to attending on behalf of companies I have worked with in the past, and now as the creative director of my own company, Badlands Studio."

"Over the years I have seen so many changes, from the venue itself to the format of the week (fashion week recently changed from showing spring, to showing resort collections), to the designers that present. I have met so many lovely people along the way, and there are so many reasons why I attend year after year, but the main one is always to show my support for our incredibly talented designers. The time and effort that goes into creating a collection, and then bringing it to life on a runway is something worth celebrating!"

"Fashion week is also a great opportunity to catch up with everyone, including friends and fellow creatives, brand publicists and clients. Whether it's sneaking in a quick meal (Fratelli is always a popular choice for dinner and drinks with my girlfriends), or a coffee at one of my favourites cafes, Bread & Circus—socialising  and meetings are always a big part of my week. I'll also be busy capturing content to share across my channels, as well as sharing behind the scenes glimpses and snippets from the week on Instagram Stories."
