3 Different Ways to Wear Colorful Jewelry

Everyone has their go-to jewelry, right? But even the biggest advocates of signature pieces (we’re looking at you, French girls) know that every so often, accessories need a refresh—and to be honest, we’re in the mood for something completely different right now. While hunting for the one piece of jewelry we can’t go without this summer, we had certain conditions in mind: We definitely required color (and lots of it), including on-trend metals (we still can’t get enough of rose gold), and it had to be versatile (the easiest way to successfully justify any purchase).

Enter David Yurman’s new DY Bel Aire collection featuring customizable chains in the best range of bright shades. Thanks to a genius design that works at different lengths and seemingly endless amulet add-ons that range from classic pendants to elevated bohemian touches, these chic necklaces encourage endless reincarnation. We’re major advocates of accessories that breathe new life into our wardrobe staples, and when we discovered the luxe new collection, we were struck by so many outfit ideas.

See the ways we’re already wearing our DY Bel Aire chains by way of our three favorite color stories for summer 2017.

Zimmermann Maples Bow Top ($480)

When the top you’re wearing makes an entrance all by itself—hello, 2017’s one-shoulder trend—it doesn’t mean the party ends there. Statement jewelry is the personal touch that stops a bold outfit from feeling like it’s wearing you, and we promise there’s a whole world of accessories out there beyond oversize earrings. A long chain in this delicious tropical green, wrapped thrice and held together by a clever little amulet, creates a summer-ready choker worth writing home about (and you’re going into pendant territory, another major trend we’re into). We’re getting Palm Springs vibes here with the combination of green and pink, a color story we’re spotting everywhere this season.

For summer, we’ll forever crush on a neutral color palette done just right, and we love it even more with a creative flash of red. Remember that bright doesn’t necessarily mean classic primary hues—this slightly muted coral is perfect to pair with white, creams, and beige. We’re all about balancing flashes of skin with tailored pieces, so we adore this crisp cropped shirt paired with high-waist trousers plus multiple strands decorating the décolletage. Layer a few long chains, varying the lengths and making sure all the beautiful clasp details are exposed. Bonus points for additional gold pendants, to keep things extra elevated.

Atlantique Ascoli Florentine Blouse ($670); Theory Asymmetric Midi Skirt ($295).

An all-black outfit always hits the spot: It’s perennially chic and acts like a blank canvas for dreamy accessories. That being said, wearing head-to-toe black during warmer months begs for accessories that feel summer-ready—and nothing does it better than chic pops of aqua. Double up your chains with a twist, and wear them as bracelets to take your classic outfit from foolproof to flawless. Been thinking of getting a second ear piercing? Do it. Now is the time to go bold, so load up your earring combos, and put together a burst of color that’s all your own. You just mastered the art of accessorizing.
