New York–based photographer Alice Gao has an impressive résumé in the digital world. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, she worked as a photo archivist at the Arnell Group, and then did consulting for a financial services firm. But it was the success of her blog, Lingered Upon (where she showcased her fashion sense, captured her every meal, and showed off her favorite restaurant interiors), that led her down a new path. As an in-demand freelancer boasting almost one million Instagram followers, her clients include Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Cartier, Condé Nast Traveler, Mercedes-Benz, and WSJ magazine.
Gao on the key to success...
"Figure out what you're passionate about and what gets you going and excited. Hone in on that and really make it your own. It's great to be inspired by others but don't try to do what they're doing because that can only get you so far."
