If you love fashion and have a mother who’s an industry mogul—making an impressive shift from pop star to clothing designer—you already have a leg up when it comes to stepping into your own career. But 5-year-old Harper Beckham is perhaps even more fortunate because her mom, Victoria, has taken steps to assure her daughter’s future is secure. Legal ones.
According to BBC, Victoria Beckham recently trademarked her daughter’s name in Britain and Europe. This means that if the tyke has any aspirations of launching an eponymous line in fashion (or beauty, toys, and several other categories, including entertainment), no one else will be able to use her name. The report also claims that Victoria did the same for her sons, Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz.
While there don’t seem to be any immediate plans for Harper to follow in her mother’s—or father’s—footsteps, it’s not so far-fetched to think it could happen someday. After all, she’s already lent a hand in designing the 2016 World Aid’s Day tee and served as inspiration for her mother’s recent Target collaboration. Victoria registering a trademark is simply securing her future, like any savvy mom would do.
