As we move further into May and the promise of summer starts to feel a little more real, I’ve been paying attention to the shoe trends the celebrity style set are gravitating towards first. Whilst sleek kitten heels and minimalist flip-flops are already proving popular amongst fashion people, I'm seeing them out a little less often than I might have imagined. Instead, chunkier clogs keep cropping up on some of the chicest celebrities right now.

The trend landed on my radar when I spotted Emily Ratajkowski stepping out this week in a pair of light beige clogs, styled with a knee-grazing pencil skirt. Worn with one of the season’s biggest skirt trends, the casual shoe choice gave her outfit an effortless ease. Here on home soil, we have duos like Sienna Miller and Oli Green, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham and Alexa Chung and Tom Sturridge, all of whom make London’s vibrant fashion scene all the more exciting when they step out.

Across the pond, there are established relationships like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce and Lily-Rose Depp and 070 Shake, who prove that affairs of the heart are closely intertwined with those of the style variety. Whenever I consider the contents of my autumn wardrobe, I'm always a little despondent about the fact that all my flirty hemlines, ethereal prints and gorgeous trims can only really come out when the weather is warm.

Amidst colder climates, my ensembles always seem to feel somewhat more austere and sombre in comparison, with tailored coats, clean-cut silhouettes and luxe fibres. Lately, however, I’ve been looking for pieces that have a slightly more ornamental look, whether that be swapping my suede jackets for elegant leather funnel-neck jackets or polishing up my cashmere collection with one of this season’s key colour trends.

One category that I’ve yet to find a great substitute for is a white T-shirt. Or at least, that was the case until I saw the plethora of celebrities who are switching this basic top for something far more statement-making. Indeed, over the past few weeks, I’ve noticed that prolific members of the celebrity style set have been elevating the wardrobe staple by wearing a baseball top instead.

This ‘90s fashion item, worn by punk musicians and skateboarders alike, has found a new fanbase in the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Zoë Kravitz and Hailey Bieber; all of whom have spent a portion of the past month advocating for the return of this dated piece. And it’s safe to say that these guerrilla marketing tactics have certainly worked, as even I have fallen victim to their influence and picked up a few baseball shirts myself. But let’s back up for a moment.

Often referred to as a raglan tee, this design features a relaxed fit and a distinctive contrasting sleeve colour that juxtaposes the (oftentimes white) base. The sleeves are also cut on the diagonal to give a more casual and effortless feeling to the style. These days, it's the sort of thing you’d see worn by Jeremy Allen White or Jacob Elordi, which is why these co-signs feel quite fresh and novel as a styling piece.

You might be wondering exactly how the slipper shoe trend evolved from house shoe to a designer buy.

Like Neil Armstrong landing on the moon, the arrival of this footwear silhouette outside of the cosy four walls of our abodes was like one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. (Well, at least the members of humanity who worship at the altar of the Olsen Twins, wear Le Labo Santal 33 and think orange wine is the only acceptable thing to sip on).

You see, once upon a time, slippers were reserved for keeping your feet warm around the house, and they'd typically only be worn with a nightgown and cotton poplin pyjamas, akin to some geriatric children’s book character. (Or chic loungewear from the likes of Sleeper, Olivia Von Halle, Honeydew Intimates or Kat The Label.) Unless you were making a last-minute dash to a Pilates class or were someone as unfussy as Adam Sandler or Justin Bieber—two stars whose commitment to The Big Lebowski-esque level of casual dressing is unparalleled—stepping outside in slippers was unthinkable.

Then came the pandemic. Loungewear became socially acceptable, ushering in a wave of underwear-as-outerwear pieces, including slip nighties, lace-trimmed satin shorts and babydoll dresses, to reign supreme. The slipper shoe trend isn’t as intimate as these examples. Still, there is something to be said for the way this once relegated closed-toe mule has been given a new lease of life.

What is the Slipper Shoe Trend?

The slipper shoe trend refers to the way this casual indoor style has been reclaimed as chic, covetable and most importantly, suitable for city wear. According to Anna McLaren, the Australian designer and founder of independent fashion brand A.Emery, the slipper shoe trend speaks to the way our values have changed to prioritise comfort. This idea of ease is "no longer reserved for time spent at home," she tells me. "There’s a growing desire for pieces that feel effortless and luxurious at once, and that’s translated into footwear that’s pared-back, considered and comfortable enough for all-day wear."

To me, this is best seen in The Row’s spring/summer 2024 collection. Months after Mary-Kate Olsen was pictured around Los Angeles risking the California cold in black leather slippers, a grey tracksuit, a trench coat and a navy scarf, she and her twin sister presented a more opulent take on the style by recontextualising hotel slippers into a cult buy. The message was clear: when you can invest in all matters of luxury goods, what’s more self-indulgent than slipping into something snug as a slipper?

McLaren echoes this sentiment. "There’s a softness to the way people are dressing now; a leaning into calm, unfussy silhouettes and pieces that feel grounded and personal. The slipper trend speaks to that desire for simplicity."

On the heels of The Row’s endorsement came a flood of celebrity co-signs; Jennifer Lawrence wearing suede slippers whilst out in Manhattan, Kendall Jenner arriving at a New York hotel ahead of the 2025 Met Gala in a pair costing £960. Other designers followed too, including a patent pair shown on Miu Miu’s autumn/winter 2024 runway.

But why now, five years after homebound fashion became de rigueur? "People are looking for wardrobe staples that don’t feel performative, that prioritise ease without sacrificing design integrity," McLaren tells me about why slippers are quickly becoming adopted by refined minimalists.

"[The slipper shoe trend] is understated," she continues. "There’s no excess, no embellishment—it’s about restraint. The slipper-style silhouette reflects a broader shift toward timelessness and subtle design codes, which align naturally with a more refined and pared-back aesthetic. A flat shoe, particularly one with thoughtful proportions and premium materials, can feel just as sophisticated as a heel; it’s about how it’s made, how it’s styled and how it fits into a modern, intelligent wardrobe."

On the latter, you don’t have to tell me twice to embrace the flat. Earlier this month, I was perusing a Zara Home store in Athens and came across the most delicious slipper. Ivory satin and trimmed with faux fur, it was like an invitation to prioritise cosiness. Turns out, relaxation is the ultimate extravagance, after all.

Not to alarm anyone, but I was 11 when the 2010s kicked off, and while I’m not sure I appreciated it at the time, now I look back and realise I was living through an iconic decade of pop culture and fashion.

It was the kind of time in which core memories were planted so deeply, they still come flooding back with a song or a grainy clip on YouTube. From the beginning of the Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez ‘Jelena' lore to Onsie-mania and Katy Perry proving that we’re all California Girls at heart to the best year of X-Factor to ever grace our TV (which caused the creation of One Direction, the UK’s biggest boyband in my humble opinion), it was a year packed with so many decade-definding moments, I could write a whole story just on that.

The one thing I definitely wouldn’t label 2010 as, though, is chic. Let’s be honest, looking back, it feels more like one big chaotic costume party than a decade of elevated elegance. Quiet-luxury definitely wasn’t a thing and the fashion I was wearing at the time looked like it was curated by a sleep-deprived raccoon with a highlighter obsession: fuzzy, with luminous leg warmers, neon tutus, shutter shades and cropped tees proudly screaming YOLO, all worn unironically and all paired with battered UGGs and trainers that had seen better days. It was a complete sensory overload—and yes, I enjoyed every moment of it—but it’s fair to say my sense of style has come a long way since then.

So imagine my disbelief when I was scrolling through my social feed in 2025, only to be confronted with carousel after carousel of 2010s outfits that, actually, look undeniably stylish now. At first, I was dubious but the fact is, there are some 2010s outfits that do look stylish in the year 2025. The fashion cycle has done what it always does and now, 15 years later, we are seeing trends from 2010 reemerge. From the Boho Renaissance seen across Chloé, Miu Miu, Isabel Marant, Etro and Coach’s spring/summer 2025 collections, to Hailey Bieber at the Met Gala afterparty, stepping out in sky-scraping platform peep-toes like it's 2010 all over again, there is plenty of proof to back me up.

Topping off this full-circle moment? Isabel Marant’s iconic Bekett hidden wedge high tops, the very same silhouette Beyoncé wore in the Love On Top music video, are back and ranked as the eighth hottest product in the world on the LYST Index Q2 2025 report. The red top trend first piqued my interest when I saw Zoë Kravitz wear a one with teeny tiny athletic shorts and round-toe mules à la Carrie Bradshaw while grabbing an iced latte in New York City. The thought of enhancing a very simple ensemble with a dominant shade in this way wasn’t one that had really crossed my mind before. I was interested, especially as an owner of a red cashmere Prada top that I have often struggled to style in the past. (I’ve probably worn it twice since buying it, and both times over a polka dot skirt.) One sighting does not make a movement, of course. But once I saw this outing, I began to notice elegant red tops cropping up everywhere.

Just last month, Victoria Beckham took to the streets of Paris in a polo-style red top, complementing the strong shade with flared jeans and an Hermès Kelly bag. Earlier in the year, while in Los Angeles, Kendall Jenner paired a scarlet half-zip long-sleeve style from The Row with wide-leg trousers and black loafers. Keeping her cool-girl notoriety firmly intact, Zoë Kravitz stepped out in California yesterday in an elegant yet seemingly effortless outfit that played into her understated aesthetic. Over the past few weeks we've noticed celebrities have been forgoing classic black, brown and beige accessories in favour of one of the most talked about colours for the AW23 season—bright red. To attend the Proenza Schouler SS24 New York Fashion Week runway show, Sofia Richie styled a strapless black and white dress with a no-fuss black clutch bag and minimal earrings. Livening up her style, Richie opted for a pointed toe slip-on ballet flat in a tomato red—perhaps the freshest way to wear the colour right now. 

This simple addition of the season's sharpest shade injected a playful element to Richie's look without compromising the elegant styling that she's become known for. 

Late last month, amid celebrations of the launch of Rhode's Strawberry Glaze Lip Treat, Hailey Bieber sported a range of thematic outfits that she accessorised with red bags and shoes. There is a lot to think about when you're planing on getting a tattoo. Whether it's your first tattoo or another that you're adding to your collection, getting inked is a big (and permanent) decision. You'll no doubt be scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram for tattoo ideas and deciding what sort of design you want, as well as the size and placement. If, like me, you find the idea of a large tattoo daunting, small tattoos are a great place to start. 

Before you make you appointment, there are a few things to think about, says tattoo artist and expert, Sophie Floyd. "The first step is finding the right tattoo artist for what you want. Social media has made this so much easier as you can see an artists full portfolio and make sure their style is right for you," she says. "Your first tattoo is always very daunting and easy to overthink, but most importantly remember it is your body—if you love it, do it!"

Small in size, tiny tattoos are not only chic but can be discreet and delicate, which makes them ideal for a first tattoo. "Small tattoos are a great introduction to getting tattooed as you can get a feel for the experience start to finish, from being in a studio, the tattoo itself and how you feel afterwards living with your new tattoo," says Floyd. "I often ask my clients what their ‘end goal’ tattoo-wise is. For some people just one small one is enough, for others they want to build up a collection. If you know you’ll likely add more in the future, think about using placement wisely to get the most out of your canvas," she says.

Another thing to consider is placement. "Small tattoos are great as you have endless placement possibilities," says Floyd. "If clients are unsure on placement, I first ask if they want their tattoo to be more on show or easier to hide if necessary. If you want the latter some good placements are ribs, inner arm or ankle as most clothing can hide them easily. If you want to show it off, anywhere outer arm is my go-to, " she says.

As with any tattoo, small tattoos can be meaningful to you, or as a form of self-expression. "I love that small tattoos can either have a lot of meaning, or just be fun! Some of my favourites are shells, letters, cowboy boots, flowers and cherries," says Floyd. Of course, you'll want to make sure you follow up with good tattoo aftercare to ensure your new tattoo heals well and looks its best.

This fresh-faced natural look is exactly what I'll be wearing on hot summer's days, because layers of foundation and concealer is not it. To achieve this no makeup-makeup look, a subtly tinted base, a dewy lip balm, clear brow gel, and cream blusher is all you need.

To tightline, you'll want to angle your liner upwards into your lashline, applying pigment in amongst the roots of your lashes rather than above them.

Ensure that your entire lashline is covered, then extend downwards a little in your inner corners and upwards in the outer. This look isn't about precision, so don't worry if your flick isn't perfect. Finish by using a precision smudging brush to soften the liner and blend out the cat-eye.

6. Sunkissed Sheen

If summer could be summed up in one makeup look, it would be this one. Glowing skin, bronzed cheeks, and strategically placed highlighter really are the holy trifecta of summer makeup.

Although Hilary's sunkissed skin looks totally natural, this look is heavy on the bronzer. Use a matte product to sculpt, followed by a shimmery formula to add warmth where the sun hits, and finally, a cream highlighter to add sheen to the high points of the face.

7. Faux Glow

Whilst we'd certainly never advocate sunburned skin, it has to be said that a skin faux sunkissed effect is majorly trending in makeup this summer. Whether you use a blusher or a bronzer, all else you need is a large fluffy brush to recreate this look—just dust the pigment loosely over your cheeks and nose.

8. Peachy Bronze

Speaking of peach, when it comes to blusher and bronzer, we're seeing warm, orange-toned products taking centre stage in so many celebrity makeup looks this year. The great thing about a peachy cheek product is that you can also use it as eyeshadow, which is a great way to tie your look together. Throw a matching lipstick into the look à la Rochelle Humes, and your look is complete.

The new year means fresh new trends. And while we've already put together the 21 spring/summer 2023 trends worth knowing about, there are some trends that are flying a little more under-the-radar. Style Notes: Cargo pants in general have had a huge revival of late, so naturally jeans are getting added pockets, too. Hailey keeps hers casual with a knit and trainers combo, but they also work so well with a fancy top and pointed-toe heels.

We're only a few weeks into sweater weather, so when you head out, you will only see a few people who have already decided to start wearing boots. Celebrities, however, are a different story. 1. Elevated Western

It was just last year when you couldn't find a celebrity who wasn't wearing cowboy boots on a weekly basis. The stars are still loving Western-inspired boots but taking a step back from the traditional cowboy style. Think simple distressing, neutral colorways, and sleek designs.
