Congratulations are in order. After officially tying the knot at London's Old Marylebone Town Hall a few weeks ago—where the bride wore a custom, Bianca Jagger-esque Schiaparelli skirt suit and elegant wide-brimmed hat—Dua Lipa and Callum Turner have now shared photographs from the second chapter of their celebrations in Sicily.

For the first stage of the Italian festivities, Dua wore a custom Bottega Veneta halterneck gown featuring the house's signature intrecciato-inspired detailing. For the main event, however, Dua turned to a house with which she has a long-standing relationship: Chanel.

The bride wore a custom Chanel Haute Couture wedding gown adorned with feathers and crystal embellishments. The halterneck design featured a low back and elongated train scattered with delicate feather detailing. She completed the look with a feather-trimmed headpiece and a long embroidered veil.

Handcrafted at Chanel's ateliers at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris, the gown brought together the expertise of several of the house's specialist métiers d'art. 480,000 beads were hand-embroidered across the dress, whilst the trompe l'oeil jewelled embellishments took 1,155 hours to create. The two-metre train was finished with 25,000 feathers, and Dua's six-metre tulle veil was similarly embellished with hand-embroidered beads and feathers for an elegant, cohesive finish.

The gown marks the first Chanel Haute Couture wedding dress designed by Matthieu Blazy for a friend of the house. As an official Chanel ambassador and the face of the Chanel 25 handbag campaign, Lipa's choice of wedding dress felt incredibly fitting.

Elegant and extraordinary, but not at the expense of her own playful style, Dua's feather-embellished gown has me thinking that the era of '90s style slinky designs is over, and that a new bridal trend is on the horizon.

Speaking to Teale Talbot, the co-founder of Réalisation Par, which specialises in slinky dresses rendered in magnetic prints that are undoubtedly a summer wedding staple, she tells me that she always thinks the best place to begin is to reframe your mindset and “look for a forever piece rather than just a dress for one event”.

“It’s important to find something that captures the memory and the feeling of the moment, but that you’ll genuinely want to wear again afterwards,” Talbot adds. “The most beautiful dresses become part of your life rather than something you wear once and forget about.” This season specifically, the Australian-born, London-based design director reveals that the key summer wedding guest dresses will all feature “soft, feminine silhouettes”. Key trends include “bias cuts, open backs, halter necklines and delicate straps”, noting these adhere to the discernible shift “away from anything too structured or over complicated” and “towards dresses that move naturally with the body”.

If you feel restricted or uncomfortable by the afternoon, it changes your entire energy. I always think the best dresses are the ones you don’t have to think about once you put them on,” she continues. “Silk dresses work beautifully because they move with the body and still feel elegant after hours of wear. If you can dance in it, sit in it and still feel amazing at midnight, then it’s the right dress.”

As for how to style these pieces? “Slightly undone hair, sun-kissed skin and minimal jewellery. Nothing too overdone. Dresses always look best when they feel natural and lived in. "We met during the pandemic, when the world was turned upside down. As restrictions started to lift, we went for long walks and got to know each other the old-fashioned way. Walking side by side in the countryside. No drinks or restaurants, just us and the muddy footpaths in front of us. Our first meal together was a picnic on a park bench with homemade supplies.

When Mike first told me he loved me, we were at a vineyard in Alfriston, so it was the perfect place for our proposal. He proposed to me in a secret corner of the vineyard, amongst the vines and with the Cuckmere valley surrounding us. We practically skipped our way around the vineyard after getting engaged, and then sat together eating bread and drinking wine in the September sunshine."

"I got ready with my mum, my sister and my dog, Nala. My sister wrote me a handwritten letter for my wedding morning, so I sat with her as she read it to me. It was a special moment I’ll cherish forever. I did my own makeup, and I had my hair done by Katya Valentina in a half-up, half-down style. I wanted my hair down because my dress was a bandeau, but I knew we were going to be by the coast, and it was sure to be breezy! So having it half up allowed me to know it would be practical too. Mike got ready in the room next door with his mum, and there was a lot of laughter back and forth as we tried to avoid bumping into each other in the corridor before our first look."

"When we first got engaged, we found out that one of my best friends had got engaged on the same day! What are the chances? So we made a dream become even more dreamy; we caught a train to Paris and went wedding-dress shopping. It felt like a scene from a movie; walking into the bridal boutiques in Paris, the rails of exquisite dresses urging us to try them on, with the sounds of the sewing machines whirring away in the rooms next door.

"I found the most stunning Calais lace fingerless gloves. They were my first wedding wardrobe purchase. The delicate lace with scalloped edges on both sides was so intricate and delicate. They instantly elevated any of the dresses I tried on, so I knew I had to have them. I built my wedding day outfit around these."

"I designed my wedding dress with AYM. I drew out many designs and shapes, but kept circling back to the shape that finally became my dress. I knew I wanted something timeless, elegant and subtly sculptural. I opted for a bandeau that would allow my shoulders to be bare, something I think is extremely chic. We created a corseted bodice with boning in the sides to hold the shape together. I wanted to feel comfortable but also have a shape that was a little bit sexy too, so I created a gathered section over the tummy, so that we could tighten the fabric around the waist and allow it to flow over the tummy area, creating a silhouette that feels flattering and still empowering.

"It’s always a challenge to create a fit around the hips that isn’t tight around the lower tummy but has a shapely fit around the bum. With a lot of back and forth with Gabby, we created a shape that fit beautifully, allowing for comfort in case of bloating and a shape around the back that felt feminine and sculpted. I opted for no slit in the dress as I didn’t want it to blow open; I wanted to be able to focus on enjoying the moment without worrying about holding my dress (and my dignity) together."

"For the shoes, I brought in something blue and went for a pair of Jimmy Choo [Elsy 70s] in a soft powder blue. I also wore our styling scarf, draped softly over my shoulders for an added layer of easy elegance."

"The bouquet was designed by Zara of Zara Flora. I wanted cascading lilies wrapped with pearls, so it felt like jewellery; a delicate finishing touch that tied the whole look together."

"The wedding band and engagement ring were from G Collins. When I met Mike, he was helping his cousin work on the G Collins workshop, so it felt like a full-circle moment when he designed my engagement ring with them. He created a stunning emerald-cut sapphire with step-cut trapezoid diamonds on either side. Our wedding bands are simple, also from G Collins."

"Mike's outfit was an earthy-brown suit from P Johnson. His shoes were from Russell and Bromley. P Johnson has a casual suit option. Mike wanted something that felt relaxed and to bring a bit of his personality into his outfit, especially as we were planning to walk around the countryside after our ceremony. Inspired by the earthy palette of the landscape we were going to explore on our wedding day."

"We rented a house in the countryside for a week and stayed there with our mums and sisters. The house had never been used for a wedding before, but the hosts were incredibly accommodating when we reached out to them and asked if they would be happy for us to host a small ring ceremony.

"The house is a traditional Kent Oast house, featuring a round Oast section that lends it considerable character. As our legal wedding was so intimate, with just our mums, we didn't host any welcome events. But we all had a cosy dinner at the cottage the night before, and we had a pamper night. Mike included!"

"We had our invitations created by Lindsay at TPel Paper & Press. The invitations featured woodland scenery inspired by our home. We’re renovating stables in the English countryside that are surrounded by ancient woodlands, so we wanted to bring our home into our invitations. We had two woodpeckers on the front, and silver birch leaves decorating the archway motif with draped branches. We wanted our guests to be able to interact with our invitations, so we created layers that could be opened like little chapters in a book, revealing different details of the day."

"We got married in Eastbourne Town Hall. It’s a stunning building. Very grand and has this gorgeous staircase lit by a stained-glass window. We chose the Mayor’s Parlour, as it was only four of us! We got married with our mums as our witnesses. It was incredibly intimate."

"Following our legal ceremony, we went to the beach. It was stormy, with the waves being whipped up into big frothy splashes of white, and we had to take our shoes off to manage on the cobbled beach. They say a wedding dress is the most important piece of clothing a woman will ever wear. Well, where’s the beauty in that if the style you’ve chosen to walk down the aisle in is far too elegant for everyday settings? For an increasing number of brides, the styles they selected to tie the knot in aren’t floor-grazing or aisle-dragging. Instead, short wedding dresses offer something altogether quite contemporary and unconventional. Indeed, call this their ‘something new’ in the way they’ve bucked convention, but as more couples opt for ceremonies that cater to their own tastes rather than adhere to traditions, it’s unsurprising to see cropped hemlines come to the forefront.

This isn’t just a response to modernity, however. Whilst perpetual brat, Charli XCX, might’ve made the most prolific endorsement for short wedding dresses when she wore Vivienne Westwood’s Nova Cora off-shoulder mini, but it’s not just the Aperol Spritz-adoring pop star who has chosen the unexpected for their big day. In fact, short wedding dresses have a storied history of being worn by prolific women who weren’t afraid to blaze their own trail, whether that be Mia Farrow, Audrey Hepburn, Sharon Tate, Lily Allen or Cindy Crawford. The most famous short wedding dress, however, remains Yoko Ono, who wed John Lennon wearing a pleated thigh-baring dress at the British consulate office in Gibraltar.

These women weren’t dressing to meet expectations. They were dressing with intention, just for themselves,” explains Annelise Sealy, founder of London-based bridal boutique, The Fall. “Choosing a short dress signals that same mindset—fashion-forward, self-assured, and unafraid to stand apart.”

Speaking about the ascent of short wedding dresses, she explains that several factors have contributed to the rise of this style. (And no, I’m not just referring to the length.) “Modern brides are more empowered than ever to make choices that genuinely reflect who they are,” Sealy adds. “Marriage no longer feels like a rigid rite of passage; it’s a personal milestone, so the dress doesn’t need to follow a prescribed formula.”

“I think a short wedding dress carries an inherent sense of confidence,” acknowledging that they put the focus on the woman, not just the gown. “It's the opposite of the prescribed norm, whilst feeling fresh, intentional, and fun. It also offers freedom—both literally and stylistically—as it’s easier to move and enjoy the day without managing layers of fabric or a long train.”

This last point resonates with the way most brides are approaching their ceremonies, too. “Short wedding dresses reflect how weddings themselves have evolved—smaller guest lists, city ceremonies, destination celebrations, and multi-day events,” Sealy continues. “They suit that modern pace and versatility, and lean into a sense of individuality rather than excess.”

As for wearing one well? “It’s definitely all in the details and styling! Sheer layers instantly elevate a shorter length, or you can play with volume by adding a dramatic sleeve or detachable train. A veil, gloves, bold heels, or statement jewellery can transform a short dress into something unmistakably bridal while still feeling fashion forward.”

However, for us at least, it's the fashion that's become the real focus of the show.

From her iconic Levi’s jeans to her collection of Prada knitwear and anything-but-basic basics from Petit Bateau, the wardrobe seen on actress Sarah Pidgeon is making a convert of sleek, understated style out of even the most stringent maximalist. Still, one would argue that it’s not her Yohji Yamamoto skirt-and-white-shirt set or floral Chanel midi dress that has gone down in history as her most iconic look, but her incredibly refined and understated wedding dress.

With CBK and JFK Jr’s nuptials taking centre stage in the sixth episode titled "The Wedding", the pared-back gown will once again be thrust into the spotlight. Ahead, we speak to the show’s costume designer, Rudy Mance, about the making of the dress, and dive into everything you need to know about the small island ceremony itself. From the custom Manolo Blahniks she walked down the aisle in, to the anti-bride colour she wore to her rehearsal dinner, read on for all the details on Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s wedding dress.

1. The Dress

To set the scene, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and John F Kennedy Jr tied the knot on 21 September 1996 at an intimate wedding ceremony hosted on Cumberland Island, just off the coast of Georgia in the U.S. The event was supposedly a secret, which made the understated simplicity of her wedding dress all the more captivating. Instead of a billowing gown befitting of marrying "America’s Prince", the then 30-year-old exchanged vows in a simple slip dress. Designed by Narciso Rodriguez, who was a close friend of hers, the ivory-coloured dress featured a simple cowl neck that draped elegantly across her frame.

The silhouette was completely revolutionary and reshaped the face of bridal fashion forever. Offering women an alternative to frothy shapes and stiff taffeta, the design was also a marker of a decade underscored by minimalism and decisive simplicity, the latter coming to summarise her fashion legacy.

"It was so simple, so elegant and so classic," says Mance. "It was the perfect dress that reflected who Carolyn was, which was equal parts ahead of its time [and] so of the time, all whilst being absolutely timeless. It changed the way we thought of modern wedding dresses." The Emmy-nominated costume designer, who has collaborated with Ryan Murphy nine times prior on period pieces like Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans tells me that the process of translating CBK's dress for the screen began with a sketch, followed by rigorous research.

Telling me that he "studied every single photo that was available of the dress", he looked at Narciso Rodriguez’s initial sketch, which was published by Vanity Fair, and watched The Lost Tapes to see how the dress moved. However, the real eureka moment came when the team stumbled across the remnants of the original material, fortuitously only a stone's throw from JFK Jr and CBK's Tribeca loft.

"We discovered that Narciso had bought a silk crepe fabric from a shop here in NYC that’s still around, called B&J Fabrics," explains Mance. Miraculously, they still had a very old and yellowed swatch of the original fabric, so through them, we reached out to the fabric mill in Italy and imported the exact same fabric. We custom-made the dress out of the original fabric Narciso used. It was important to me to be as exact as possible, not only out of respect to Carolyn Bessette, but also to Narciso’s beautiful design."

All in all, the finished dress seen in the show was the result of three to four prototypes Mance made in order to get the exact proportions right. "The most challenging thing to execute was the drape of the dress, the way it hung on Sarah [Pidgeon, who plays CBK in the show] and the way it moved on her as she wore it," he notes.

"It was such a simple dress, but so beautiful in how it almost flowed when she would walk, so the seams needed to be tweaked quite a bit to get the final shape of it. We tried different versions of the toile of the dress before we landed on the final recreation."

2. The Shoes

CBK’s bridal shoes weren't as widely discussed as her dress, but they were an extension of her refined and polished approach to personal style. For the occasion, she wore a pair of crystal-beaded satin sandals from Manolo Blahnik. A favourite of another '90s New York icon, Carrie Bradshaw, CBK’s relationship with the Spanish designer led to a slingback style named in her honour. These aren’t the exact pair she wore for the big day, though; she opted for a shape similar to the Callasli.

3. The Beauty Look

Another element that makes CBK’s wedding look so eternal is her hair and makeup. Echoing the understated essence of the ensemble, she wore her long, blonde locks in an unfussy low bun. It looked almost like something that she could’ve done herself in the morning, which only added to the effortlessness and elegant nonchalance that continues to define her. Her "something old" was the clip that kept the style in place, which formerly belonged to her late mother-in-law, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Later in the evening, as she had her first dance as a wife whilst wearing her husband’s tuxedo jacket as a shield from the brisk Atlantic breeze, she took her hair down, leaving loose waves resting casually on her décolletage. As for makeup, her complexion was kept buttery-soft and matte, whilst forgoing a strong lip or eye look really let the elegance of the dress shine through.

4. The Bouquet

CBK carried a small bouquet of lilies of the valley, which she clutched in her white-glove-encased hands. The flowers also held sentimental value, as she once again honoured Jackie, who was known to have adored lily of the valley to the extent that she had them on her breakfast tray every morning to wake up to the scent.

5. The Guest List

CBK and JFK Jr opted for a modest chapel, the First African Baptist Church, for the candlelit ceremony. Established in 1893, the one-room building hosted 40 of their closest family and friends.

Amongst the attendees were Kennedy’s cousin, Anthony Radziwiłł, and his wife, former journalist and Real Housewives of New York star, Carole Radziwiłł. The wedding party also included Kennedy’s nephew, Jack Schlossberg, who is a political correspondent, writer and commentator currently running for a congressional seat in New York.

6. The Venue

For the reception, guests gathered at the Greyfield Inn, anhistoric mansion built in the early 20th century for the Carnegie family. Over a three-course dinner held under a white canopy, the newlyweds were said to have rung in the evening with music from Prince and cocktails on the porch. JFK Jr shared the following toast to his bride: "Carolyn has changed my life in a way I never thought was possible. She has just made me, tonight, the happiest man alive."

"We met five years ago, and our first date took place during the pandemic. Cevin picked me up to go drifting, and afterwards, we ended up at his agency, sharing a glass of wine. The funny part? It was technically our first date, but I stayed over that night, and in a way, never really left.

"The proposal happened on my 30th birthday in Ibiza. We had rented a house with my closest friends, and Cevin surprised me with the proposal out on the terrace. It was completely unexpected (as we were still a little hungover from the night before), but it turned into the most beautiful moment, especially because we got to celebrate it with my friends right afterwards.

"Everything about our story has always moved fast. We already have a two-year-old daughter, and now, after just five years together, we are married. From the very beginning, we’ve been living life at full speed—like going 270 km/h in the fast lane—and that energy has carried us all the way here."

"Our wedding had a pastel theme, inspired by Cevin’s art, which is full of soft, colourful tones. I designed the invitations myself in lavender and soft pink to introduce the [colour palette] right from the start."

"On the morning of the wedding, I got ready at the Chateau Royal in Berlin, which was also where we spent our wedding night. I was joined by my best friend Antony, who was also my best man, and we even shared our first glass of champagne, making the morning full of laughter, excitement, and special moments."

"I chose to have my dress custom-made by Berlin designer Franziska Burgert. One of my closest friends had previously had her wedding dresses designed by Franziska, and I had always been impressed by her work. I wanted something special, something tailored exactly to my body, rather than picking a dress off the rack"

"My makeup was done by Patricia Hoos, a talented makeup artist from Berlin who came highly recommended. Since I usually wear very little makeup, I wanted something a bit stronger for the wedding but still natural, and Patricia executed it perfectly. Originally, I had planned to wear my hair down, but in the end, I opted for a sleek braided updo so that my scarf and the corsage of my dress could really stand out."

"Originally, [I planned to] wear white wide-leg [trousers] with a crop top and maybe a cropped blazer. But as the process unfolded, I realised that this was such a special day, and I wanted to wear a skirt instead. Franziska tried a corsage on me just to see how it would feel, and the moment I put it on, I fell in love. From that moment, it was clear that I wanted a corsage with this skirt.

"The final look was the perfect fit for me: elegant yet cool, sexy but not overdone. I wanted to avoid a traditional “princess” vibe and instead go for something edgy and modern, something that really fits the Berlin spirit. The outfit was completed with a scarf, adding an extra unique touch. I wore silver Jimmy Choo shoes, and for jewellery, I wore my engagement ring, wedding ring and additional gifted pieces from the day, all from Tiffany & Co., which beautifully completed the look."

"Cevin wore a custom-made suit from SteelSupply, featuring black trousers, black shoes, and an off-white double-breasted blazer paired with a bow tie. His look perfectly complemented mine. Together, we looked amazing."

"Originally, the plan was to have a small civil ceremony in Berlin and then host a larger celebration in Mallorca. But as the planning unfolded, the Berlin ceremony kept growing, and before we knew it, we had nearly 60 guests. At that point, it felt natural to embrace it as our main wedding celebration, especially since it allowed our families in Germany to be part of the day.

"We chose Hallesches Haus in Berlin, which turned out to be the perfect setting. What makes the venue so special is its beautiful outdoor space. Having dinner outside was non-negotiable for us as we wanted one long table where all of our guests could sit together. That sense of connection and togetherness was the most important thing: no separation, no small groups, just one big table of conversation, laughter and joy."

"Since our ceremony was civil, we had limited space and could only have 15 people inside. That meant it was just our closest family and our daughter, Ida. She was our adorable ring-bearer, bringing the rings to us after we exchanged vows. It was such a sweet and memorable special moment."

"A funny moment happened with the music. I had prepared a USB stick with a song for our entrance, but I didn’t realise that the old sound system could only play one track at a time. I had actually created a folder on the stick with the song labelled 'Song for Ceremony'. When we entered, the official plugged in the USB, and suddenly a groovy house track started playing!

"Everyone was surprised and a bit confused, and my mom even came out to ask if this was really supposed to happen. For a moment, I panicked, thinking the moment was ruined. But in hindsight, it was so funny, and actually perfectly fitting, since it was a song I normally play as a DJ. It added a natural, playful touch to the ceremony that made it even more memorable."

"Despite the small space and the unexpected music, the ceremony was incredibly beautiful, intimate and emotional. We even exchanged a few personal words with each other. Normally, civil ceremonies are said to be very formal and 'dry', but ours felt deeply personal, romantic, and truly memorable. A moment we will always cherish."

"After the ceremony, we had our couple’s photoshoot, and in the afternoon, the reception began at the venue. A singer performed acoustic versions of some of my favourite songs from Rihanna, Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake, creating a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. When we joined later, the singer performed 'Freed From Desire', and everyone sang along. It was an incredible vibe!"

"As mentioned, our wedding had a pastel theme, inspired in part by Cevin’s artwork, which is full of bright and cheerful colours. We wanted the day to feel joyful and lively, and the pastel palette set the perfect tone. The dress code for our guests was also pastel, creating a cohesive, colourful look that would shine in photos and make the celebration feel extra vibrant."

"Our florist tailored the flowers to match the pastel theme, using soft pinks, lilacs, creams and delicate dried blooms. The flowers complemented the charming courtyard, with its green chairs and leafy walls, creating a beautiful, harmonious overall look. Candles in pastel shades added warmth, whilst the menus were printed in soft lilac tones, perfectly matching the table décor. With everything from the flowers to the table linens and candles working together, the result was a stunning, cohesive setting that felt both elegant and playful—a perfect reflection of our vision for the day."

"As a special 'personality gift', each guest received a bottle of wine from Rheinhessen, selected by winemaker Juliane Eller, with our logo on it. In addition, we wrote personal letters to every guest, sharing heartfelt words and memories. These were placed on their plates just before the meal, and seeing everyone’s reactions—tears, smiles and hugs—was incredibly moving. It was such a meaningful way to show our appreciation and connect with our loved ones on a deeper level."

"Dinner followed around 6.30 pm, served family-style at one long table, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. The mood remained playful throughout, with a funky '70s and '80s house playlist. Guests were already dancing—some grabbing the microphone—and an impromptu dance circle formed outdoors. Around 10 pm, we moved inside to cut the pastel-coloured cake, inspired by Cevin‘s artwork.

"One of the most special moments of the evening was the speeches by our respective best friends and witnesses. Both gave absolutely beautiful speeches, finding exactly the right words, and everyone was completely captivated and emotionally moved."

"Our first dance was a highlight of the evening. I have danced my whole life, and Cevin also has a dance background, so we prepared a small choreography with three different songs. It was completely unexpected for our guests, and their surprised, excited, cheering reactions made it an amazing, unforgettable moment. After that, the party continued all night with incredible energy and unforgettable joy."

And that's a wrap on 2025! (Well, almost). As we're approaching the end of another wonderfully fabulous year for fashion, at Who What Wear UK, we've all been discussing and debating the biggest moments of the last 12 months. The good, the bad and the Labubus, there have been viral bootleg jeans, tour wardrobes, another Met Gala to decode as well as snippets into the new Devil Wears Prada film.

This year was one of, if not the, most exciting years for fashion in the last couple of decades. With 16 new creative director debuts in September fashion month for spring/summer 2026, the industry's musical chairs brought unprecedented change and excitement across the 'big four' fashion cities and beyond. Highlights included Matthieu Blazy's Chanel, Jonathan Anderson's Dior and Louise Trotter's Bottega Veneta.

With the preview teasing just enough to wet our appetites, as well as that iconic moment they attended Milan Fashion Week in September in full character to film a scene from the upcoming film, it's safe to say we we're hooked.

2. A Very Brat Wedding

Singer Charli XCX married her finacé, George Daniels, who is the drummer in the 1975, in September in Sicily. After a very chic legal ceremony in London, the couple invited all their friends to the Mediterranean for a weekend wedding of Aperol Spritz and 365 partying. From Alex Consani to Gabbriette, Emily Ratajkowski and Amelia Dimoldenberg, every cool person you follow was there. Did we have FOMO? What do you think?

3. Labubu Mania

If you've got through this year without knowing what a Labubu is, then you may have taken your digital detox too far. Pop Mart's furry toy monster doll, with its very mischievous "ugly-cute" face became a huge hit not only with Gen Alpha and Gen Z, but millennials around the world. Of all the creative director debuts during fashion month in September, none impressed quite like Matthieu Blazy's first collection for Chanel. It was met with much praise, and high anticipation for his future looks.

6. Kendrick Lamar's Superbowl Bootcut Jeans

Kendrick Lamar's appearance at the Super Bowl 2025 halftime show generated significant buzz for his fashion choices, particularly his jeans. He wore Celine Homme bootcut jeans, specifically the Marco Jeans in Dark Union Wash Denim by Hedi Slimane. They were a low-waisted, loose-fitting, bootcut (or flared) silhouette, thus proving the comeback of Y2K style, and became a major talking point online and reportedly sold out quickly after the performance.

7. Grace Wales Bonner Becomes Hermès Menswear Creative Director

Although as mentioned there were numerous new leaderships announced at luxury brands this year, none meant more to us, and the industry, than the announcement of Grace Wales Bonner's appointment at Hermès menswear, which had made her the first Black woman to lead design for a major luxury house. Succeeding Véronique Nichanian, her first collection will be January 2027, where she will bring her signature tailoring and craftsmanship to the French designer.

8. Jonathan Bailey's Feet

It's been a big year for Jonathan Bailey. He was named People Magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive' 2025, released multiple major movies, and went viral for his... wait for it... feet.
In June 2025, Bailey wore flip-flops to the Jurassic World Rebirth photocall in London, which caused much debate online. But these weren't just any flip-flops, they were The Row's Dune sandals, which were subsequently named the "hottest fashion item in the world" by the Lyst Index for Q2 2025.

“A wedding dress is so much more than clothing—it’s the tangible expression of someone’s identity at the exact moment they step into a new chapter,” explains Annelise Sealy, the founder of London-based contemporary bridal boutique The Fall Bride.

“It holds emotion, history, personality and intention,” Sealy continues. “At The Fall Bride, we see brides choose pieces that capture how they want to feel: powerful, modern, romantic, effortless. A wedding dress anchors the narrative of the day and becomes part of their personal story.”

But how to actually make it to the aisle wearing a piece you adore as much as the person you’re meeting at the end? And what wedding dress trends are on the rise for 2026?

“2026 is shaping up to be the year of romance reimagined. Silhouettes feel fluid and feminine, but beneath that softness lies impeccable structure and considered craftsmanship,” Sealy notes on the overall mode set for bridal fashion.

Even more so, the limits for what constitutes a wedding design are blurring in 2026 and beyond. Your design could be the dress you’ve been dreaming of since you were a girl, something that arrived via DHL Express the evening before or something you plucked from the high street set in the weeks leading up to the big day. Either way, the notions around what constitutes a wedding dress are becoming quite antiquated.

Still, there is so much pressure to find The One, even if you are armed with the information about the key emerging trends and styles that could be read as dated in a few months' time. On that, Brigitte Stepputtis, design director of couture at Vivienne Westwood, suggests newlyweds-to-be should “let go of the myth of the ‘perfect’ dress. She continues, “If the dress shifts your posture, sharpens your confidence and makes you feel slightly more yourself, that’s The One.”

This is a trait we’ve seen a lot of already from Charli xcx's leg-baring, off-the-rack Vivienne Westwood gown for her Hackney Town Hall civil ceremony to Lana Del Rey’s Victorian-inspired custom Cinq creation for her ‘Love on the Bayou’ themed nuptials. These are pieces that are considered in the sense that they capture the quality of who they are, but are equally carefree in their approach. In fact, a dress chosen without the pressure of selecting something perfect will actually be the most precious of all.

Style Notes: It would be remiss to discuss the key 2026 wedding dress trends without beginning here. As the brat songstress said, everything is romantic, and one of the biggest trends encourages brides to embrace this sensibility through a refined lens. “2026 is shaping up to be the year of romance reimagined,” explains Sealy. “Silhouettes feel fluid and feminine, but beneath that softness lies impeccable structure and considered craftsmanship.”

Rosie Williams, co-founder and creative director of The Own Studio, a contemporary bridal studio located in the heart of Shoreditch, echoes this. “For 2026, we’re seeing a balance between structure and softness,” she says. “Think: hidden corsetry and structure with fluid draping on top. It’s all about having that really amazing, containing feeling on the inside, but still an element of romance and fluidity in the fabric.” Tender touches like stitching a quote into the lining of your train—perhaps in a robin's-egg blue in an homage to that traditional “something”—or upcycling a family member’s gown for your veil are ideal ways of expressing this trend.

Style Notes: Whilst predicting future trends can sometimes feel like gazing into a crystal ball, take solace in knowing that there’s a rich history of fashion trends to mine, especially if looking too far ahead feels daunting. “Vintage references are coming through with unprecedented subtlety,” says Sealy.

“Rather than overt costume, we’re seeing whispers of the Baroque, the opulence of Rococo, and the sculptural femininity of the Belle Époque translated into modern silhouettes: ornate brocade reinterpreted as lace motifs, elongated corseted waists softened with fluid drapes, and embellishment that pays homage without imitation.”

A designer who excels at the New York City-based modern bridalwear maven, Danielle Frankel. Establishing herself as a definitive destination for contemporary women seeking something cool and with couture sensibilities, the brand’s latest collection draws inspiration from illustrations by Erté, the 20th-century Russian-French artist known for his hand-crafted costumes.

Slightly Art Nouveau, slightly Art Deco, the designs render a century-old tradition with a new outlook. “Trapunto stitching, corded trellis embroidery, boned bodices and hand-painted facades are just a few of the signature details that make up an imaginative compilation of cinema-like pieces, each with its own personality,” the brand says in a press release, which also reflects a desire for weddings to play out like an event. “Brides want their wedding day to unfold like theatre,” explains Stepputtis.

Style Notes: Though the aforementioned trends speak to the overall vibe for 2026 wedding dress trends, bridal designers are also forecasting the return of specific elements. Draping is one of them. “Draping continues to play a pivotal role, bringing movement, softness and dimension to gowns that feel both contemporary and timeless,” explains Michelle Aznavorian, the founder and creative director of ready-to-wear and occasionwear label Misha.

More specifically, designers are embracing draping that feels “poetic rather than fussy”, as Sealy notes. “Soft folds that skim the body, cascades of silk that ripple as the bride moves, and sculpted ruching that gently shapes without ever feeling rigid,” she continues. “It’s sensual, but never showy, a quiet luxury with a decidedly modern hand. This is shown through corseted bodices with a fluid drape through the gown, sculpted without looking stiff, and deeply flattering and romantic.”

Style Notes: Ask any upcoming bride, and they’ll tell you about the concerns they have about wearing one of the most contentious parts of bridalwear: lace. Is it slightly too old-fashioned? Will you resemble a crocheted doily your grandmother has over her lounge room? Fortunately, not. “Lace is coming back in a big way,” Sealy foretells. Williams also adds that whilst lace is back, it’s very much reimagined. “It’s more about interesting motifs, trim details and clever placement versus all-over lace gowns,” she notes. “Look for French lace, which is delicate, soft to the touch and deeply chic. Corded or more graphic lace can feel too traditional or stuffy,” Sealy explains.

For Sydney-based bridal designer Prea James, lace is a fabric that she's been using for over ten years. “When I first launched the label nearly a decade ago, lace was on its way out as minimalism was coming in,” she says. “If brides aren’t feeling a full lace gown, they can still incorporate the trend through subtle touches, like lace trims or a lace veil. It’s a beautiful way to bring in the texture and romance of lace without feeling overwhelmed by it.”

However, it’s taking a slightly different format, as instead of wearing several gowns, people are looking to re-up one singular dress through adjusting and tweaking elements over the course of the nuptials. Enter: removable elements.

“The art of layering takes centre stage in 2026,” Sealy remarks. “It’s an unexpected approach that adds depth, dimension, and personalisation, allowing a single gown to feel effortlessly ceremonial for the aisle and stripped-back for the reception,” she continues. “For 2026, we’re seeing detachable overskirts and sleeves being the trend, as well as an accessory change-up like adding a neck scarf for the reception.”

It’s a trend designers themselves are besotted with, too. “I love this trend and love designing for it, because you can create two very different looks with just a few thoughtful changes,” adds James. “Our Mariska dress, for example, pairs with multiple detachable trains—the Eloise Tails, Daphne Train, and the Grace Overskirt—and also looks incredible on its own. This style is up around 230% from this time last year! The trains or overskirt give that dramatic ceremony moment, and once removed, they reveal a sleek column-style dress for the reception.”

Style Notes: One of the more radical wedding dress trends to emerge for 2026 is reversible silhouettes. This isn’t just about turning your gown inside out, but intentionally displaying the internal structure of a gown in a way that displays the artistry and skill that goes into creating a gown.

“This trend celebrates the work and craftsmanship in wedding gowns—an honesty in design that lets the internal architecture become the aesthetic,” explains Sealy. “It also offers a point of uniqueness and intentional design in a market that has become incredibly saturated with options. Visible boning and construction elements reflect structural beauty and a sense of modern craftsmanship.” One of the most prolific designers to do this—and has been for decades—is Vivienne Westwood. As Stepputtis adds, “we’ve long celebrated the poetry of construction and showing the bones of a garment is a way of honouring its engineering”.

“This also echoes another design code of the house; undergarments worn as outerwear. One could almost see this as a visual result of the bride’s intentions. They have been seeking authenticity, a rejection of perfection and craving a "transparent" identity.”

Style Notes: Another unconventional trend to rear is to head is anti-stark white wedding dresses. “We're moving away from sharp, optic-bright whites,” explains Sealy. But fret not, this pendulum swing isn’t towards darker hues, but rather muted and pastel colours that add dimension and intrigue to a gown. “Sophisticated tonal palettes—buttery cream, and even rose pinks— that flatter all skin tones and lend gowns a warmer, more romantic aura are taking their place,” she adds.

What Wedding Dress Trends are Considered "Dated" in 2026?

With new styles entering the canon of wedding dress trends, the pendulum must swing against some styles. Whilst these will never truly be "dated", especially since, as we've professed numerous times, a wedding dress is a deeply personal choice, there are certainly some styles that aren't as popular as others.

"The minimal slip has had its moment, but 2026 demands more. Brides aren’t rejecting simplicity, but they’re seeking gowns with more structure and support," Sealy observes. Brides are also gravitating away flat matte fabrics with no dimension. "The ultra-matte finishes that dominated previous years are quietly exiting," Sealy notes. Brides are craving nuance through fabrics with depth glow, texture, movement."

What to Look Out for When Buying a Wedding Dress?

We generally find there are two types of brides: those who know exactly what they want and what suits them, and those who really don’t know where to start," explains James. If you're the latter, these are the exact elements to keep in mind when buying a wedding dress:

• Silhouette: "The silhouette is the foundation, do you feel more yourself in something structured or something softer? You’ve got to feel incredible in the shape of the dress as a starting point," says Williams. "Exploring a mix of silhouettes to see what feels good on your body will naturally help you narrow down what you love," James adds.

• Occasion: "It’s also worth considering how each style aligns with the wedding you’re planning, whether it’s a formal affair or a more intimate restaurant celebration," James notes.

• Fabric: "Fabric is so important and completely changes the mood of a dress," says Williams. "Structured fabrics create presence, fluid fabrics give a sense of ease. If you’re considering dyeing your dress after the wedding, it’s important to choose a fabric that is suitable for dyeing." Sealy also says that matte finishes feel "cleaner and modern" whilst textured materials "add dimension to simple cuts" and satin finishes are "timeless and romantic".

• Time: Most wedding dresses will require several months to make, so you need to have an idea of your timeline when shopping. "Make sure you give yourself enough time to explore different shapes and styles so you can get a feel of what suits," Williams adds. "Save trying your favourite brand on until the end as, by that stage, you’ll have a much better idea of what you’re looking for."

• Length: "A small train is classic, but a larger train can add drama and theatre," Sealy explains. "No train creates a cleaner, more modern editorial feel."

• Volume: "Ask yourself how you want your dress to behave. Flowing? Sculptural? Architectural? Minimal? Volume can also be concentrated (skirt only) or evenly balanced," she continues.

• Silhouette: Consider your silhouette, Sealy also stresses. "Structured means your gown will be more sculptural, corseted, supportive and flattering on any figure. Fluid means bias-cut silks, soft movement, effortless and no structure to support, so undergarments become even more key"

• Necklines: "Square and scoop feel clean and sculptural. Plunge adds sensuality without being “overt”. Strapless is polished but not fussy when paired with a minimal overall design."

• Mood: "Most importantly, what feeling do you want to embody? Modern? Romantic?Architectural? Playful?

How to Choose a Wedding Dress?

So, how to actually choose The One, especially when the market is so saturated and it can almost feel like everyone is a critic? "There’s already so much planning that goes into your wedding day; feeling rushed or pressured will only add unnecessary stress," James says.

"Once you’ve narrowed things down to your favourites, remember that you need to be the decider. If you’re bringing anyone to your appointments, make sure they don’t have overpowering opinions, because at the end of the day, it’s your dress, your wedding, your choice.

"And once you’ve locked in a dress, stay off social media to avoid confusing yourself—you don’t need more noise."

Sealy also stresses this. "The myth of The One can be overwhelming. My advice is to not chase perfection—chase comfort, confidence and authenticity," she explains. "There may be several dresses that are right; the key is which feels aligned for your day and the format of your wedding. Don’t get hung up on bridal 'rules'. Focus less on pleasing others and more on feeling like your favourite version of yourself. When the dress supports your personality rather than overpowering it, it usually becomes “the one."

How Many Wedding Dresses Should a Bride Have?

"More often than not, weddings now have at least one satellite event attached to them, whether that’s the night before or a recovery day after. Each event has its own distinct vibe, and it’s the perfect opportunity for brides to lean into different looks that reflect different sides of their personality or style," says Williams. Whilst there's no exact rule for how many wedding dresses a bride should have, it is increasingly popular to have many dress changes.

"I think this stems from more couples getting married overseas and therefore having multi-day events, which creates the need for multiple looks," James adds. "It’s then filtered down to one-day weddings, with brides choosing a more statement dress for the ceremony and a fun party dress for the reception. I personally think it’s lovely when the reception dress ties in with the main dress. It still needs to feel equally as special in its own way — you don’t want to change out of a beautiful gown you felt amazing in and slip into something that doesn’t hold the same magic. So if you’re going to make a change, keep that in mind and perhaps time it for later in the evening."

She wasn’t able to stay for the wedding breakfast, but we were just so happy she could be there. I lost my dad the year after I met Joe, so it was incredibly emotional for me."

"The reception began with welcome drinks—Crémant with bread, olives and snacks, followed by a three-course dinner. We had a few speeches and Joe’s nan blessed the table before everyone ate. She is one of my favourite people on the planet, and it was a pleasure to be able to honour her in that way."

"The overall vision was 'effortlessly elegant vintage glamour.' I had originally wanted to get married in Las Vegas, so I took elements from that and adapted them for a city wedding. I had a custom faux floral bouquet from Ett Hem London, as I wanted something I could keep, and rented arrangements from The Brighton Florist to avoid waste.

"Its art deco interiors and Parisian-brasserie feel were exactly what we were after—classic, stylish, but not too formal. The food was amazing, and although it was a private space next to the restaurant, we partied like we were in a private wedding venue!"

"We focused on lots of candlelight and subtle touches—nothing overly fussy. The restaurant provided a lot of the stationery: menus, place cards, etc. I printed a welcome board and some cards for the table at a local printing shop and designed them on Canva. We skipped a wedding planner and did everything ourselves, so it was a labour of love."

"One of our friends was MC for the day, and we came up with some light entertainment in the form of a game of Family Feud. We printed some cards and he wore a Steve Harvey mask. Suffice to say, the game got incredibly heated!"

"We had the most incredible cake made by @Lubi_S_Cakes, and it was spectacular! The cake-cutting became a comical moment when the knife snapped in half in my hand. For favours, we gave guests personalised reusable shot glasses—a fun and useful keepsake. I loved that my friends brought their Polaroid cameras so we could have lots of photos on the day too."

"We are big party families and need no excuse to get on a dance floor. Our first dance was to 'So Amazing' by Luther Vandross—but halfway through, Joe surprised me by switching it to a soca song. We bonded early on over our love of soca and dancing, so it was perfect. The first dance turned into a dance-off and was one of the most memorable moments of the night! It felt like Notting Hill Carnival came to Islington that evening, and it was a night to remember!"

"In January 2013, a friend from high school, Dan, reached out to me about a party he was hosting at his Manhattan apartment", recalls Sara Jetty, strategy director for live music company Live Nation, as she tells us the story of how her and her now-husband, Brenno Drummond Valerio, who is a VP at Treasure Data. "He said he was inviting a group of alums from our small high school in Indianapolis who had all relocated to New York City, for an unofficial reunion of sorts. Little did I realize that the party wouldn’t just be a nostalgic trip down memory lane but also where I would meet Brenno—Dan’s best friend from university—for the first time.

"That night, Brenno and I bonded over drinks at Dan’s kitchen table about our mutual love for music and reminisced about our (separate) experiences seeing Oasis live many moons prior. Over the next several months, our friendship deepened as we sent songs we were discovering and listening to back and forth through the (now-defunct) Spotify messaging tool. In May, we went on our first date and closed down the Victorian bar in Union Square where we grabbed late-night drinks.

"In the summer of 2021, Brenno proposed in a quiet corner of the gardens of Villa Melzi during a trip to Lake Como (the destination of one of our very first vacations together). We spent the afternoon cruising the lake, making stops for wine and pasta, and closed out a perfect day with champagne on our hotel room’s balcony, just the two of us. We waited to share the news with friends and family so we could soak in every second together without distractions."

"It became abundantly clear after we got engaged that we had no idea where we wanted to get married. We had spent the majority of our eight-plus-year relationship in New York City, but after visiting a number of venues around the city, nothing felt quite right.

"We both adore the UK and have spent a lot of time there, separately (I have family in London and Birmingham, and studied and worked in London during university) as well as together (cue the eye rolls, but going to Glastonbury together was truly one of the best weeks of our lives). We were staying at Babington House for a long weekend trip for Brenno’s birthday in January 2023 when we both looked around and thought, This is what we’ve been searching for."

"The property and house are stunning, whilst also being comfortable and cosy. It felt like our home away from home, and everyone who worked there immediately was like family. "The festivities began the night before the wedding with a welcome BBQ for all our guests in Babington’s walled garden. Brenno grew up in Brazil, so the night celebrated his Brazilian roots: lots of Casa Verdes (Soho House’s twist on the traditional caipirinha), live Brazilian music and yellow florals."

"As a nod to the location we had chosen, I was intentional about dressing in as many British-designed pieces as possible throughout the weekend. I stumbled upon my House of CB dress for the welcome party while shopping at Selfridges with my mom."

"I paired it with a long organza neck scarf from The Own Studio, a small beaded handbag from Shrimps and sculptural pearl earrings from Completedworks for an extra pop of elegance.

"I loved how the floral pattern mirrored the garden location for the evening and that it was relaxed enough that I could see myself re-wearing it time and again."

"We opted to skip a bridal party, so instead, I invited my mom and all my close friends to get ready with me in my room and get their hair and makeup done if they wished—all completely optional. It was a super relaxed vibe: Everyone came in and out as they pleased, and we kept a steady stream of food, coffee, champagne and rosé flowing all day. In line with keeping things comfortable and stress-free, I wore a simple slip dress from Bec & Bridge and Loeffler Randall ballet flats."

"Abi Constanza (hairstylist) and Saskia Wright (makeup artist) were the best additions to our crew—not only were they insanely talented and made us all look our best, but they were also so relaxed, chatting and laughing along with our stories all day."

"For my makeup, I was aiming for a glowy, natural look. I wanted Brenno to recognise me as me when I walked down the aisle, and I wanted to look back at my photos and recognise myself too! I came across Saskia on Instagram and immediately knew she was the perfect choice. She delivered on makeup that truly looked like my natural, everyday self… just miles more flawless."

"My planner recommended Abi to me as a hairstylist, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. I wanted my hair swept back so it wouldn’t distract from the twisted neckline or voluminous sleeves of my dress. However, I almost always wear my hair down, so an ‘updo’ was a complete departure for me. Abi landed the ideal in-between look: a perfect low bun, with bits of the front of my hair still framing my face so it didn’t feel too ‘up’ or structured."

"Oh, the dress! It was quite a journey to settle on, but I think we knocked it out of the park in the end. I worked as a fashion buyer for over seven years, so silly me, I assumed that this part of wedding planning would be a breeze, and it ended up being anything but. After trying on hundreds of dresses, I realised I had quite a specific vision for what I was looking for and needed to find someone to help me bring it to life."

"During a trip to London, I dropped by The Own Studio, which was only a few blocks from where we were staying, on a whim. After trying on a few designs from their collection that had the lightweight fabrics and drop-waist silhouettes I was looking for, I knew I wanted to work with them to create a bespoke gown. Jess, one of the founders, who I worked closely with throughout the process, is amazingly talented and thoughtful, and despite our collaborating on the process across the Atlantic Ocean, she fully understood what I was looking for. Though my everyday style is quite modern, casual and even a bit androgynous, I was looking to go in a completely different direction for the wedding day, with a dress that was soft and feminine, with a vintage feel—a dress that mirrored the romance of the Georgian manor setting.

"Together, we landed on a drop-waist silk bodice, statement puff sleeves and layers of floaty organza for the skirt. It felt like an absolute fairytale to wear, and it took Brenno completely by surprise!

"My veil was from Harriette Gordon and adorned with scattered delicate beaded stars. I fell in love with the dreaminess of it the moment I laid eyes on it. My shoes were silver sandals from Nodaleto with a unique, sculptural heel. I wanted heels that I would be comfortable in all day (and wouldn’t sink into the grass, as most of the celebration was outdoors), and they suited me perfectly. For jewellery, I had planned to wear a new set of earrings on the day but made a spontaneous choice to instead borrow a pair of diamond studs from my mom. It felt more special to incorporate something sentimental, and I think they were a classic touch."

"Luckily, Brenno’s outfit decisions were much more straightforward. One of our close friends, Vanessa, who works at Prada, helped him pick out a classic black Prada suit, which he paired with Ferragamo loafers and a Cartier watch. He looked absolutely timeless and handsome."

"We wanted the wedding to be beautiful, but also unfussy, eclectic, and playful—nothing too staid or serious. We didn’t have a colour scheme or theme for the day and instead prioritised incorporating details that felt authentic to who we are as a couple. For florals, we opted for local, seasonal spring flowers in a mix of colours and vessels, which were lovely while maintaining a relaxed tone and not overshadowing the natural beauty of Babington’s grounds."

"Our ceremony took place overlooking the lake at Babington, a naturally beautiful bit of the grounds that needed little outside decoration."

"Like the rest of the day, we wanted the ceremony to feel uniquely us. Music being an integral part of our love story, we spent (probably too much!) time selecting some of our favourite songs for the string quartet to cover. Brenno entered a rendition of 'Digital Love' by Daft Punk, I walked down the aisle to the 2013 Glastonbury version of Arctic Monkeys' 'Mardy Bum,' and we exited to 'Bittersweet Symphony' by The Verve. We even capped off the ceremony with a singalong to 'All You Need Is Love' by the Beatles, the lyrics of which were printed on the back of our programs."

"My mother is from the Philippines, so it was important for us to incorporate elements from that side of my background into the ceremony as well. We did a traditional candle ritual, and my brother Julian and sister-in-law Lauren wrapped us in a unity veil and cord, another Filipino tradition. Brenno’s family is Seventh-Day Adventist, so we chose to have a short blessing read by his uncle in honour of his faith."

"I don’t enjoy being the centre of attention, so the walk down the aisle and the ceremony were the two bits of the day that I was most anxious about. However, having both my parents walk me down the aisle helped soothe my nerves, and as soon as I saw Brenno burst into tears, I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. It was too sweet and quintessentially Brenno; he always wears his heart on his sleeve."

"Having our 3-year-old mini schnauzer, Wolf, as part of the ceremony also broke the tension. We brought him over to the UK on his first international trip, as neither of us could fathom celebrating our big day without him. As our ring bearer, we knew he’d be the cutest feature of the ceremony, but he also ended up being the most hilarious. After following Brenno down the aisle off-leash, he was supposed to be secured throughout the ceremony, but there was a bit of a mix-up. Instead, he proceeded to cause chaos: jumping all over my dress, chasing after staff members on the lawn, and disappearing into the woods (our friend had to retrieve him) before deciding my veil was a comfy bed and curling up on the train for a nap during the balance of the ceremony. His antics broke up the seriousness with moments of pure laughter and joy that we will always remember."

"We're both passionate about art, so we were thrilled to work with so many UK-based artists across the wedding, including Natalia Bagniewska, who designed all the on-the-day stationery for the event. I reached out to her a bit last-minute, as we were running slightly behind on wedding planning in the lead-up to the event, and we couldn’t feel lucky enough that she agreed to fit us into her busy schedule. We adored the way she infused joyfulness, celebration and escapism into all of her designs for the day, from the ceremony programs to the G&T bar signage, dinner menus and escort cards."

"We sipped the champagne just the two of us at the bar while our guests lined up for our petal-toss entrance. It was such a special moment being able to take a deep breath, just the two of us, and celebrate what we had just done!"

"We also snuck out for a few minutes at the tail end of cocktail hour to snap a few couples portraits with our photographer, Louise, from Taylor & Porter. Working with Louise was amazing: She has such a calming and positive presence, and her camera never feels like it gets in the way of the celebrations. We were adamant about not wanting to miss any of the party, but she was lovely about very speedily capturing some of our favourite images from the day. Her style of shooting on film also lends such a romantic, ethereal quality to the photographs."

"As soon as we started to think about our vision for the reception, I quickly realised that I wanted dinner under a sailcloth marquee: a very classic English garden party, while also serving as a practical backup in case of rain. Babington doesn’t typically allow marquees for weddings, but they were beyond accommodating to my desires and pulled it off in epic fashion."

"The marquee was decorated with greenery and hanging rattan lampshades, while our tablescape featured more colourful spring flowers, tall amber candles in vintage-style candlesticks, plus tons of scattered tealights and our favourite mini Diptyque candles.

"As another nod to our joint love of music and my job in the industry, we decided to gift everyone with custom tambourines, hand-painted by yet another incredible local artist, Cathy-Ann of Thistle Paper Co, with each guest’s name (or nickname) and used as place cards on the tables."

"Probably our favourite part of the entire day was entering the marquee to Franz Ferdinand’s 'Take Me Out.' Everyone went wild shaking their tambourines, getting on top of their chairs, and jumping up and down. It was so joyful and celebratory, and the moment Brenno and I thought maybe we had nailed the wedding planning thing after all!"

"One of our favourite aspects about Babington from our first visit was the food: It’s all locally sourced (including from the walled gardens within the grounds) and incredibly fresh. We wanted to tell the story behind all of the dishes so guests could appreciate the amazing work of Chef Dionas and the rest of the staff, so Natalia designed beautiful fold-out food menus that described where all the ingredients were sourced from. Just a few menu highlights: Isle of Wight tomatoes, tuna sashimi, chalk stream trout, beef rib, radicchio and gorgonzola risotto… and of course a classic Eton mess and chocolate and salted caramel tart. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth normally, but I still dream of those desserts!"

"We’re probably biased, but we are of the steadfast opinion that we had the best wedding speeches of all time. My best friend from childhood, Meg, and Brenno’s best friend from university, Dan (the one whose party brought us together in the first place), both delivered speeches that were equal parts hilarious and heartfelt. They got rousing ovations (accompanied by more tambourine-shaking, of course). After dinner, as the sun set and the marquee filled with the most luminous warm candlelight, my dad also said a few words, and it’s safe to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the entire marquee."

"After dinner, we moved from the marquee inside to the Orangery, which we had transformed into what we dubbed ‘Club S&B.’ On the way into the party, we had 120 espresso martinis ready so guests could each grab one to keep their energy up—I’ve truly never seen so many espresso martinis in one place in my life!

"Midway through the band, I ran upstairs to do a world record–breaking fast costume change into my second look: a glittery, backless silver gown from Galvan London. I fell head over heels in love with it as soon as I tried it on and adored how it matched the dozens of mirrorballs hanging in the room perfectly. I felt like a walking and dancing mirrorball all night! I paired it with chunky silver Staud platforms that gave me height while still being comfortable enough to dance in. I didn’t take them off until 7 a.m.!"

"In contrast to the rest of the day, we wanted the space to feel like a vintage disco club, so we had dozens of mirrorballs of various sizes hung from the ceiling to make the entire room sparkle. Natalia’s stationery again was a brilliant complement: She designed black bar menus, matches and coasters, all with the ‘Club S&B’ branding. We did our first dances quickly, then let our party band, The Fellas, take over with an amazing set, enjoyed by all but especially by my 3-year-old nephew, who was breakdancing all over the room."

"After the band finished, we moved yet again into Babington’s main bar for an epic set by DJ Nige—and Brenno and I achieved our dream for the night of dancing on top of the bar. DJ Nige finished around 2 a.m., at which point our friend Kam crushed the DJ duties until the early hours. Our goal for the day was always for everyone to feel at home in the venue, and we realised we had accomplished it when our friends started sneaking upstairs to their rooms to change into pyjamas and sweatpants at 2 or 3 a.m. before coming back down to rejoin the dance party. A group of us stayed up dancing until sunrise… I won’t share the messy 7 a.m. photo here, but it was definitely the most unreal house party we’ve ever thrown!"

The time has come once again for fashion's biggest night of the year. Three-hundred and sixty days since last year's Met Gala dedicated to the late Karl Lagerfeld and his expansive design archive, and last night it was time again for Anna Wintour, her assembly of co-chairs, and their guests to take to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate this year's exhibition, titled Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.

One such guest is Kylie Jenner, who arrived at the base of the Met steps toward the end of the red carpet portion of the evening in what can only be described as a wedding gown (though a very different one from the Off-White style she chose for the 2022 Met Gala). The custom ivory double-faced satin Oscar de la Renta dress features padded hips, a cone bra, and a very nipped-in corset waist, three attributes that, together, gave Jenner's look an overall vintage appearance. According to Vogue, the look was a nod to the garden statues mentioned in "The Garden of Time," J.G. Ballard's short story that inspired this year's Met Gala dress code.

With the dress, which also features a long satin train, she wore off-white slingback pumps and, at least for the walk from The Mark Hotel to her car, a matching double-satin shawl. In her hair, done in an updo, were ivory and pink roses.

You got engaged, found a venue and planned a wedding, and if tracking down your own dress wasn’t difficult enough, you now have to find the perfect bridesmaid dress that will make everyone in your bridal party happy too. 1. Sky Blue

Style Notes: If ever there was a runway trend made for bridesmaid dresses, it has to be ice-cool baby blue. It's certainly an underrated pastel hue, seeing that we've gone through cycles of highlighting butter yellow and pale pink, and wedding dress designers agree. "From sage green to sky blue and rose pink, our brides are loving a mix-and-match pastel look, especially for late-spring and early-summer weddings," notes Cookson. And should you be looking for outfits outside of the norm, baby blue tones happen to look just as good in tailored separates for those who aren't comfortable in dresses.

2. Bold Reds and Oranges

Style Notes: Caution! Bold brights ahead. Although we've been factoring red tights and fiery dresses into our wardrobes since winter, this marks the first time we're seeing the trend meet a formalwear dress code. "We are all obsessed with red this year and soon will be welcoming the most delicious shade of Chianti satin into our collection," notes Cookson. We love the idea of incorporating everything from fiery scarlet, sunset red, berry, burgundy and garnet into our bridesmaid attire this year.

3. Light and Earthy Greens

Style Notes: You can't go wrong with fifty shades of green, and this refined colour palette is an age-old wedding colour scheme that stands the test of time. "Sage, olive or forest green dresses have been big news in the bridal industry for a while, and they don't look to be going anywhere," says Cookson. "Not only are they flattering, but they also go with just about any floral colour scheme." Need further proof? If prints are your thing, take notes on Bettina Looney's garden theme (pictured above), or mix and match with colour-blocked seafoam, mint or olive.

4. Terracotta

Style Notes: Got a summer wedding planned? Aside from white, terracotta and similar warm, earthy tones stand out against a lush, sunny backdrop, and given just how popular brown has been so far this year, it makes sense that it would be given a dressy update just in time for wedding season. "Warm-weather colours have been gaining popularity recently, and this trend is going nowhere," notes Cookson. "Terracotta is one of our colours of the summer, and this warm tone looks amazing in the sunshine paired with burnt orange, hot pink and champagne."

5. Classic Black Tie

Style Notes: And last, but most certainly not least, a true classic—eternally elegant black. True, some might think it too dark for a wedding, but forget the funeral connotations because black is the one colour we can agree suits everyone, and your bridesmaids will get plenty of wear out of a black evening dress for years to come. "We are seeing a huge shift towards black-tie weddings, and the bigger the better," says Cookson. "Our brides can't get enough of champagne and black bridesmaids dresses for the ultimate formal wedding look." So there you have it; it's tough to improve on the LBD (that's Long Black Dress).

Finding ‘the dress’ is an exciting prospect for brides-to-be—but typically, it's also a costly one. And that's before you add shoes, a veil and finishing touches into the mix. The UK wedding industry rakes in billions of pounds annually, with the bridal industry alone accounting for approximately 400 million. Gulp.

But we're not here to take the magic away from your big day with a stream of scary statistics. Instead, we've come armed with a solution: preloved wedding dresses. In the current climate, it's no surprise that more and more brides are choosing secondhand gowns over straight-off-the-runway designs. 3. Your Dress Will Tell a Story

“Preloved dresses really are as good as new, if not better,” says Grace. “It's rewarding to say have hunted for something special, that has many stories and your special day becomes one of them.”

This is especially true of vintage dresses—many frocks from days gone by have been stores away for decades and are now being sold on sites like Etsy and eBay. Wearing a dress from the 1960s, ’70s or ’80s and thinking about its original wearer will add an extra source of joy to your day. 4. You Can Tailor it to Your Taste

Expect to have to make a few—or a lot of!—alterations to your preloved dress (this is often the case with new dresses, too). In the process of trying on preloved options, keep the size bracket wide and don't be intimidated by a “project”. Never underestimate the power of a good tailor.

“Typically, our customers like to do the tailoring with us as well,” says The Loop's Abi. “We have the best tailor ever—she is a genius. Grace is a stylist too so she knows exactly how to make the dresses fit and flatter our brides.”

5. Yes, You Can Still Embrace Bridal Trends

If you're a trend-led bride and you're worried a secondhand dress will feel “dated”, the good news is that many of the pieces both The Loop and Brides Do Good stock are recent donations from renowned labels. Trends don't move that fast, so the chances of finding something that feels current are still pretty high.

“The 2024 bridal season is leaning toward fuller, feminine silhouettes with touches of floral appliqué, bows, pearls and even colour,” says Jenny. “House of Savin, one of the brands we carry, caters beautifully to these feminine silhouettes with stunning detail.”

With several weddings under our belts across the team and two of us steadily planning our own this year, we know the tips, trials and tribulations of organising a wedding. Getting married can be, for lack of a better word, a challenge. Everyone says it's the most joyous time of your life, yet the planning and decision-making can be crippling and time-consuming. What should I wear to get married? How do I find a wedding venue? How much is too much to spend on a wedding? One of the most difficult parts, in our experience, has been creating an event that feels different to others. Naturally, your wedding says a lot about who you are as a couple, and wanting to be a modern bride with a day that is both contemporary and original but not necessarily bank-breaking can be hard.

Fear not, though—we've got you. From the big'uns like the wedding dress and location to the finer details like favours, flowers and wedding music, we've compiled a playbook of what we're doing and what we've learnt along the way. And who are we? Rebecca Rhys-Evans and Remy Farrell aka the two token just-married (we were both 2023 brides) Who What Wear editors who have been poached to help other brides-to-be. And we couldn't be more delighted to be your wedding planners (figuratively, not literally). With that, we give you our guide to every last detail of planning a contemporary wedding. Buckle up, babe!

It's inevitable that the first question you'll be asked after "How did they propose?" will be "Have you found the dress?" For some, the answer will an easy yes (it might have been on your mood board for months), but for others, what you decide to wear on your wedding day will take a little more deliberation. Are you a suited and booted bride? A traditional gown or fashion-first bride? A minidress-and-leather-jacket bride? Whatever your style and whether you choose to buy, rent or wear pre-loved, don't settle for anything less than the outfit that makes you feel your very best.

"It might have taken nearly a year and a half to plan my wedding, but the first thing I confidently locked in was the dress. Unlike a lot of brides, I didn't actually need to try on dozens of styles until I found 'the one.' I'd spotted it on Instagram and immediately knew, and trying it on only confirmed it (a testament to Halfpenny London's exceptional and thoughtful design). I'd toyed with the idea of being the party bride who wore a vintage mini and flats and hated the idea of 'traditional,' but when it came down it, as soon as I saw the square-necklined mikado gown, I knew I would feel incredible in it, and I really did. When you know, you just know.

"The only shoes that could stand up to such a dramatic silhouette were, of course, Jimmy Choos, but I opted for sensible mid-heel mules to save my feet from aching. The only thing left to decide on is an easy dress to change into for the evening party, and in all likelihood, I might rent something sparkly or feathery that feels contemporary, but the advice has always been the same. Choose something you can really move in to make the most of the dance floor, and I plan on doing exactly that." — Remy Farrell, Shopping Editor

"The funniest thing I've found so far about getting married is that despite dedicating 10 years to working in fashion and advising people almost daily on what to wear, I'm really struggling to find the dress that feels like 'the one.' It almost seems like there's a heightened pressure to wow everyone, and people often ask me what I'm wearing as if I've always known what I'd want. Unlike Remy, I'm yet to say yes to the dress, But one piece of advice I'd give to others in my predicament is that your dress should match the mood of the day. Barn, beach, church or chapel in Vegas, wearing something that goes with the vision you have for your day is a good place to start.

"One tip I have is to look to accessories. They're a great way to show personality with less of the risk you may feel you're facing with the dress. At the moment, I'm drawn to long gloves. There's no doubt that they're making a comeback along with traditional Italian lace veils (think Apollonia in The Godfather). We went a little kitsch with 'Til' death do us part' slogans on the invites, so this Clio Peppiatt bag is a must. I also noticed an increasing amount of long capes on my search and detachable XL bows on the lower back. Also, party outfits for later in the evening or events around the day (dinner the night before, engagement celebration, hen party) promise opportunities for pieces you can most definitely wear again. This Liberowe two-piece, for example, has been in my Saved folder on Instagram since the month I got engaged, and it hasn't left my mind since." — Rebecca Rhys-Evans, Branded Content Editor

As your bridesmaids are your nearest and dearest, they deserve more than an unflattering meringue. Looking for dresses that will still look good in photos in 20 years time? Eschew tradition and opt for styles that they'll be able to wear time and again. (That goes for you, too, mother of the bride.)

"I wanted to keep things easy for my bridesmaids and spare them the discomfort of wearing matching dresses they didn't like, so I asked them to choose their own styles, all with the same brief: black satin. For some, black is seen as a no-no for a wedding (the term 'funeral vibes' was bandied around), but more brides than ever have been searching for black wedding dresses in the last few years, and the colour looks so timelessly chic that I don't think there's any better or more refined option. (Although, jewel tones were a close second.) It's also the perfect base for my bridal party to accessorise in any way that suits them, and it will look incredible against their colourful bouquets and my mum's floral De La Vali maxi." — Farrell

"Navigating how to make your bridal party all look their best, keep them happy and have some semblance between them in their outfits seems like a logistical nightmare. Lucky for me, I didn't have bridesmaids. I did, however, go one notch above 'black-tie optional' and doing 'black-tie and black dresses mandatory.' Seems like Remy and I have released our inner goth, doesn't it? I think it's actually just because black, especially satin, is always chic and timeless. Personally, I made this decision really because I couldn't imagine another time where I'll be able to get my brothers and dad in a tux, so I'm seizing the opportunity. I've extended this to black ensembles for women, too, because when I look at photos of other weddings, I've found the clashing colours and prints a little distracting. So call me a pedantic creative, but for the sake of the pictures, my guests had to embrace the dark side!" — Rhys-Evans

In the run-up to the big day, your bridal beauty prep can start from as early as a year in advance. (No sweat—we've put together a handy wedding beauty timeline for your perusal here.) But when it comes to the look you decide on for the ceremony, pull together references from your favourite beauty icons and add your own spin for a modern take on glam that still feels like you. Who said bridal beauty had to be one-size-fits-all?

"I took the opportunity to entirely switch up my look for my wedding and do something a little different from my usual beauty routine. I cannot stress enough just how helpful I found having a makeup consultation to get the colours and finish just right, and frankly, no one else could have convinced me beforehand just how much I would love pinks and peaches after being a red-lipstick devotee. As my wedding was in summer, I wanted to keep the skin fresh and the accessories light, but I also love the current trend of brides adding embellishments to their beauty look. What other opportunity is there to wear floating pearls in your hair or an iridescent eye shadow?" — Farrell

"People usually consider changing their outfit for their reception, but not so much their beauty look. An industry friend told me she changed her hair, and as I plan to dance the night away, I thought I'd do the same—tying it up for reception and having it down for the ceremony. Nails are another excuse for a statement. Most often, brides go for nudes, but I'm more of a red or very dark (read: almost black) burgundy girl, and I want to continue this tradition for my reception. Whichever colour I opt for, I will do the same for my lipstick. I want them to pop in pictures of us laughing and cutting the cake. For fragrance, I thought I'd either wear Byredo Super Cedar, which will always remind me of my partner, or Chanel Mademoiselle as an ode to my grandmother. I haven't worn it since she died, as it reminds me too much of her, but I thought this would be a nice way to make her feel present even though she sadly isn't." — Rhys-Evans

Whether you're escaping to the country, travelling abroad or heading to the local town hall, the location and wedding venue are an opportunity to get creative and think outside of the box. When it comes to planning a day you'll remember for the rest of your life, the backdrop sets the tone for the rest of your day. There are more options than ever for you to find the place that speaks to you, works for your budget and helps the day to run as seamlessly as possible, so look for places that mean something to you as a couple or resonate with your aesthetic. The memories will last a lifetime.

"Like many I'm sure, we toyed for months on where to wed. We loved the idea of going abroad. A chateau in the South of France? Lovely! A traditional Italian church ceremony followed by a traditional Italian feast? Fabulous. But ultimately, the logistics that would be involved in planning a foreign wedding kept us in London. Once we decided this, we knew we just had to stay at Nobu Portman Square as it's our favourite London hotel. We're huge sushi lovers, so it was a perfect spot for dinner the night before, as well as our first breakfast as a married couple. It also goes without saying that you want a sumptuous space to get ready in, and Nobu's rooms (and gorgeous bathrooms) are exactly that. It's pure luxury, and the staff are second to none when it comes to service—anything you need, be it a steamer, a taxi or a hand with carrying all the suit carriers and they're on it. Its stylish Japanese-inspired interiors also make for wonderful "getting ready" photos in the room.

As for the wedding location, we wanted somewhere that wouldn't cost the earth for our guests to come to, something cool and photogenic, so the ceremony was at Marylebone Town Hall. Weirdly, I was initially obsessed on having a venue that had exposed plaster walls and old fireplaces. We looked at lots of gorgeous venues that fit this criteria—Brunswick House, Sessions Arts Club, Below Stone Nest and Clapton Country Club—but in the end, they fell short on either capacity, cost or carriage time. (We wanted a party that would go on past midnight—sue us!)

Then we looked at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in Pall Mall, and it blew us away. No, it didn't have exposed plaster, but it did have balconies that looked over St James's Park. We could have a license until 2 a.m., and there's a garden which we hired for a drink reception. It's also apparently one of the only venues you're allowed to light candles. Big win. After this, we continued the party the next day in the Cotswolds in my parents' garden, with a blessing in the village church. I had my 16th, 18th, 21st and 30th birthday celebrations there, so it only feels right to do it all over again for a wedding, right?!" — Rhys-Evans

"I've become known as the 'traditional bride' in the office, as we chose a church ceremony and a historic house and garden for our wedding and reception, but the almost gothic and grand setting of the church building with our personalised touches feels more Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet than 'stuffy' formality.

"Like Rebecca, a London wedding was always our intention, and in the spirit of echoing the feeling of summer in the city, we chose to make colour and florals the star of the show. Our clothing palette and reception venue are a neutral backdrop, and we've chosen big, bright floral arrangements and colourful tableware to bring the space to life. Fingers crossed for good weather, as we'll be throwing the marquee doors open for dinner and spilling into the gardens for the evening.

"Although we wanted to stay local for the ease of our guests, I'd recommend choosing a venue that allows you to have as much space and variation as possible to give your guests room to mingle and makes the most of the location you do settle on. We're in the middle of West London (so easy tubes home), but it's also quiet enough and surrounded by enough greenery to convince us we're in the countryside… for one night anyway." — Farrell

So you have the outfit, your bridal party does too, and the location is finally booked. It's now time to finalise the little details that help to really bring the wedding to life. The floral arrangement, tablescaping, party favours and entertainment are your chance to add the personal touches that will set your big day apart from the rest and create an unforgettable moment that is entirely and uniquely yours. Just don't forget the seating plan.

"Despite being a dry hire venue, the ICA does have a catering partner, Bistrotheque. If you opt to go with them, they essentially sort everything regarding food and drink, so table linen, chairs, flatware and glassware would be exactly like it is in the restaurant. We, like many, love a Bistrotheque brunch and have spent many nights there, including New Year's Eve, so going with them and choosing their banquet menu that included sharing platters was a no-brainer for us. For invites, we designed our own based on some old country club membership cards we found on Pinterest.

"Décor-wise, my IG Saved folder is filled with the likes of Hands London—which inspired me to opt for white linen, candles in antique candelabras, an '80s-esque meringue cake and martinis on arrival. Of course, there was an 11 p.m. McDonald's order, but it was served on silver platters. Whilst I wanted the ICA to feel chic, I wanted the Cotswolds party to be rustic and informal. Flowers for the tablescape were mainly café au lait dahlias grown by my mum." — Rhys-Evans

"Instagram interior pages were our first port of call when thinking about how we wanted the space to look. Searching for 'wedding tables' kept bringing up the same bow-adorned chairs and round tables that didn't really speak our language, so we took the time to pour over the kitchens and living room designs that excited us the most to take inspiration for the day. The Pinterior and Tat London are as good a place as any to start, and Casa de Perrin heavily influenced the final look of our long tables—bursts of colour with Mediterranean tile prints, seasonal British flowers and a very kitsch cake from Lily Vanilli.

"Keeping ambience in mind, I hunted for some scented candles to help personalise the dining space, but as soon as we finished and moving onto the dancing, it's a heels-off, no-holds-barred affair bringing the energy of our favourite nightclubs." — Farrell

We asked the married members of team Who What Wear for their best wedding-day advice, and they came up with the invaluable tips that people forget to tell you.

"Don't sweat the small stuff! So your napkins aren't the exact measurement you wanted, but no one else will ever notice. Remember, people are there to celebrate you, not make a list of nitpicking errors!" — Hannah Almassi, Editor in Chief

"Compeed blister plasters were the unofficial sponsor of my wedding too. I had them in my handbag and also in jars in the loos for anyone to grab. If you know, you know." — Maxine Eggenberger, Deputy Editor

"Everyone is at their best when fed and watered. I've been to so many weddings now where people have been without drinks (even soft drinks or hot beverages) and food for hours and hours between ceremonies and official festivities beginning. This creates a grouchy guest list, but also, people get drunk and unruly more quickly if they don't have some sustenance!" — Almassi

"Don't overspend on favours. Yes, it's a lovely gesture, but the amount that I've seen left on the tables at the end of a wedding is enough to convince me they're not always worth it. Food-based favours, however, are always a hit." — Eggenberger

"Let your bridesmaids be involved in their dress choices. The best way to do this now is to choose a colour or range of colours. You can always still approve the dress chosen, but it will give everyone the chance to feel their best on the day." — Almassi

Of all the stylish weddings in 2022, it was of course no surprise to discover just how incredibly chic and beautiful the nuptials of fashion designer Savannah Miller and aristocrat James Whewell were last week. Located at the very romantic and bohemian Petersham Nurseries in Richmond (a well-loved fashion editor haunt), it was everything you want a Christmas wedding to be and captured in all its glory by the highly sought-after wedding photographer, Benjamin Wheeler.

Cosy, twinkling with lights and candles, featuring rich, sumptuous fabrics for all of the outfits, and a winter wonderland-worthy setting to dine in… the entire vision was nothing short of an enchanted fairytale. Naturally, Miller looked like a storybook princess with her little Tilly Thomas tiara atop her tousled bob (by hair stylist Jordan Garrett).

Custom-made by Miller's eponymous label, Savannah Miller Bridal, her intricate wedding gown featured a bodice and scalloped neckline trimmed in fine gold beads and with a golden lace overlay. The outer lace layer appears to have then be removed post-ceremony to reveal the satin dress underneath, styled with a shimmering cape for those colder moments. With its costume-like details this a bridal look fit for the most decadent of period films, only thanks to beautifully natural makeup from star artist Wendy Rowe, the overall feel was entirely modern.

As to be expected, the guests and bridesmaids looked equally fabulous, and we couldn't help but immediately in love with the dusky-blue velvet slip dress that her sister Sienna Miller wore for the big day. It was simple and understated, a classic shade for a bridesmaid and although perfect for a winter wedding this is a hue that can easily work for any other time of the year. The bespoke Cerise dress is based upon a style that Sienna has reportedly always loved.

Combined with sparkly platform heels the look was suitably festive and joyful while remaining elegant and low-key. Miller also had a fluffy shearling jacket that she wore over the dress when the wedding party was outside—the very same jacket we only just documented from a look the actress wore on a night out in London earlier this week.

Miller kept things ultra-simple in terms of styling.

Earlier in the year we began to see the slip dress as a serious contender for wedding guests when multiple celebrities, including Victoria Beckham, wore silk-satin versions to the wedding of Brooklyn Beckham and Nicole Peltz. The interest was so high that a few months later the brand released a limited edition run of the metallic gowns to satisfy demand.

With two such high profile endorsements of this '90s dress trend, I expect to see many a slip dress sold in 2023 for wedding guests and bridesmaids. After working in fashion for the last seven years, I'd like to think that I'm a confident dresser. By now I know my style, my shape, and the trends that are worth investing in, but even as a seasoned fashion editor, the one outfit that caused me the most deliberation was my wedding day outfit. In the year that gave us Nicola Peltz's square-neck gown and Kourtney Kardashian's corset mini, there are more options than ever when it comes to wedding dress styles. But the pressure to find The One is almost as overwhelming as planning the day itself.

There is an unspoken rule that whatever you wear has to tick several boxes. Most commonly, will it make your future spouse cry? Will it suit the venue? Will it still look as good in photos in 30 years' time? But in all honesty, my first thought was, "How will I find a wedding dress that reflects my personality?" As a somewhat "anti-traditionalist" bride, the thought of any puffball meringues made me recoil, and I'm not sold on the idea of a veil, so with eight months to go until the ceremony, it was no surprise that I found mine while scrolling through Instagram researching a trends story. But what about the hundreds of other brides who agonise over finding a modern yet classic, romantic yet cool, and trendy yet timeless outfit that really speaks to them? I turned to the experts for advice.

"The key to finding your perfect wedding outfit is choosing a style that makes you feel like the very best version of yourself," says Kate Halfpenny, founder and designer of Halfpenny London. "Feeling 'bridal' has nothing to do with a particular style of dress, but everything to do with the emotion wrapped up in that garment so be yourself, whether that's in a ballgown, trouser suit or minidress. Research designers that fit your aesthetic and seek them out to try on and have a think about the clothes you already own which make you feel amazing. What is it about those pieces you love? Your own wardrobe is a great starting point!

"I love a twist on tradition so a jumpsuit worn with a sheer over skirt, or a beautiful draped edgy corset worn with a Mikado skirt with pockets can have that fashion sensibility and give a nod to tradition but in a totally modern way. Also, veils aren't for everyone but I really encourage women to try them as a veil can instantly transform even the simplest dress into an epic wedding look."

With the outfit as the foundation of your look, how you choose to personalise and accessorise it can create a look thats uniquely yours. "When I started Grace 11 years ago, I found the industry was disillusioned with the structured, traditional wedding 'uniform' that dominated the market," adds Meg Ziems, founder of Grace Loves Lace. "I needed a gown that had personality, told my story, and was designed with passion, movement, and luxury in mind, and that is where I draw inspiration from.

"At the end of the day, the most important thing when choosing your gown is staying true to your taste. We see all kinds of brides come through our showroom doors, looking for both trend-led and timeless gowns. You can tell when they are asking to try on a certain gown because they love it, and the styles they are asking to try on because it feels on trend at the time or their Mum loves it. They always go with the gown that reflects them and suits their personality so I would say try on the gowns that speak to you the most. I love seeing how brides style our gowns, I think this is where they really make the look their own and can incorporate elements of their style to make the look theirs. Have fun with styling and mix it up between ceremony and reception as they are two very different events in the one day."

The Benedetta Silk Dress 

It's finally here! Something fun and feathery like this needs a bold shoe, and adding a metallic platform felt like the retro twist that this dress deserved.

The Steph Sequin Dress

People who like a little bit of sparkle will appreciate the Steph dress, an art-deco-meets-disco take on the brand's familiar silhouette. In my opinion, there are few shapes more universally flattering than an empire waisted, V-necked dress with puff sleeves. It's designed to accentuate the best bits of every body, and the sequinned Steph doesn't disappoint. This dress is best on the dance floor where the lights will make the most of the sequins, but it'll easily be worn again and again for any of the other special occasions in your calendar, so this isn't a dress that will gather dust in the back of your wardrobe.

Miniskirts have never been my forté, but as soon as I stepped into this sparkling set, it was impossible not to feel a million dollars. Whether you're getting married in Ibiza or Ipswich, you deserve to shine, and this party piece encapsulates the joy of dressing up and celebrating in style. Only Williams could convince me into trying a veil that would still feel both modern and traditional at the same time. And while I'm still turning the decision over in my head for my own wedding, the real magic is the drop-waist dress that kicked me into full bridal mode. In all of my research, it was rare to come across a shape quite like this, something that felt like a fresh reinvention of the traditional bridal silhouette. Searches for black and coloured wedding dresses skyrocketed in January 2022, perhaps in response to the number of postponed and cancelled weddings of the previous two years changing their traditional plans to something more spontaneous, and for maximalist brides who love colour and print, this is your year to experiment. I love a summer wedding, and this statement dress is the perfect floaty, ethereal option for an outdoor wedding in the great British countryside or by the coast at a destination wedding. Wallflowers need not apply, as Nadine Merabi's brand of full-throttle, high-octane glamour is designed to be seen, and you can expect nothing less from her standalone bridal collection. I have always struggled with the proportion and fit of jumpsuits but hoped I would one day find a brand that would convince me otherwise, and today is that day. Firstly, the trouser length means that tall people, this one is for you. Being a little long in the leg can only be a good thing, as this is perfect for platform shoes (and tailoring to remove fabric is always better than the other way round), and secondly, the body-con fit means no sagging or baggy fabric and ensures a smooth fit. At once this feels like an occasion piece that you can wear to the ceremony, the reception, and many events afterwards too, so if a floor-skimming gown fills you with dread, this is the style for you.

While there are dresses in the bridal collection, the heroes are without a doubt the Instagrammable separates. From feathered miniskirts to lace trousers, fur coats to satin bralettes, there is something for everyone who wants to channel Merabi's signature charisma, and this suit is one of my favourites. A simple white suit is a classic (thanks to Bianca Jagger), but the pearl embellishment is what sets this apart as something really special. The Anu One Shoulder Gown

As a relatively minimalist dresser, I've always looked for simple pieces with strong silhouettes, and there's no better example of how that translates to bridal than Grace Loves Lace's one-shoulder gown. Sure, on the hanger, it looks beautiful, but on a body, it comes alive, and wearing this sleek, effortless gown is easily the most comfortable I've felt in a dress in years. Those with understated yet refined style will love Meg's approach to formalwear and attention to detail (the length of the sleeves here is inspired), and with all of the collection, the quality of the fabric is what really elevates these from simple dresses to luxury gowns.

It goes without saying that as a fashion editor, I'm particularly choosy about what I wear. It will come as no surprise to hear then, that I am putting a lot of thought into what I will wear on my wedding day. The pressure to find "the one" (that is the dress, rather than the partner), has been in the back of my mind ever since I got engaged, and after trying on just about every style of wedding dress there is, I am more sure than ever that whatever I settle on has to be both modern and timeless. So, if we are to begin with our own wardrobes, and using mine as a case in point, while there are undoubtedly the staples that I wear year after year and consider my best investments, there are also plenty of the buzzy, trend lead pieces that add some colour and context to what I'll be wearing for the year ahead. Who among us can admit that we weren't at least slightly caught up in autumn's 90's minimalist trend? Or the return of summer's micro mini? Although you would like to look back at your wedding pictures in 20 years time and not cringe at what was the look du jour of the time, there is undoubtedly a link between what happens on the runways and what we choose wear to for the biggest days of our lives, and a good dress will be able to cater to modern sensibility and feel timeless says Fran Cookson, Co-Founder of Rewritten Bridal. 

"We believe that a modern style wedding dress will never go out of trend. Traditional wedding dress trends change often because there are so many components and details which could be changed; lace, beading, trims etc. But keeping it simple means you will have a timeless piece that will never go out of fashion..."Traditional" bridal wear seemed to have lots of fabric and huge trains, but it’s changed over the years to become far more sleek with less fuss and much more modern silhouettes."

With that in mind, I turned to the experts to ask which new bridal trends have been gaining traction over the last 12 months, and alongside some understated classics are strong silhouettes, fun ways to accessorise, and a surprising amount of colour. 1. PUFF SLEEVES

"Puff sleeves aren't going anywhere," says Ally Voss, Founder of Clover London. "I think it's down to two things. First and foremost, they are super flattering, especially against a wider neckline like on our Willow. Secondly, they can add subtle romance to a modern gown–the ultimate combo for a classic yet contemporary bridal look." And Siobhan Winn, Client and Boutique Manager at Andrea Hawkes Bridal and Occasion agrees, the once "dated" statement sleeve is making a very fashionable comeback. 

"We’ve loved seeing our brides be bolder with their dress decision this year. There definitely seems to be a real sense of celebration after the past few years meaning our brides are very ready to dress up and have fun with their bridal looks. One trend we have noticed our brides loving is a puff/bloused Organza sleeve! Whether this be a transitional layering piece or built into the dress it really elevates a bridal look, a modern take on 80’s bridal design."

2. PERSONALISED PIECES

"My designs are never simply trend led, instead I’ve always been passionate about individual styling and the our ethos is all about choice," says Halfpenny. "I love the concept of taking a simple, yet stunning, base dress or slip and layering different elements to transform the outfit throughout the day. This has been a key part of the brand since we launched in 2005 and brides are still obsessed with this concept as it allows them so much freedom and fun to be creative. Our brides love that transformation moment of taking off an over skirt (for example) and revealing the slinky dress underneath for the party.

One change we're seeing more and more now, is that our brides are really considering the re-wearability of their garments after the big day and we’ve been shortening and restyling dresses and separates after the wedding allowing them to style the pieces again. Think a beautiful ball gown skirt tailored lightly narrower and shortened to the ankles then worn with with a beautiful roll neck sweater. "Many of my brides are after multiple 'looks' for their wedding, mainly looking to achieve a covered up or conservative look for the ceremony that evolves into something more risky for the reception." Notes Voss. "A jacket can be an easy and avant garde way to completely transform a simple strappy gown from day to evening. Some of my brides even wear our rosebud jacket from their wedding again!" And at Rewritten, the popularity of the full suit is on the up.

"We love a white/ivory bridal suit which goes against all wedding traditions. Bridal trends have changed recently and seem to be a lot less traditional and more modern." adds Cookson.

4. BOWS 

You heard it here first, bows are back. And they aren't the delicate ribbons that first come to mind, these are supersized, statement bows that always get attention and add the finishing touch suggests Voss. "While some of our gowns have bows incorporated (like primrose/fauna), we also see so many in the accessories our brides bring for their fittings, especially in their hair accessories. So romantic and also a great way to incorporate colour/texture."

5. SQUARE NECKLINES 

"Clean, modern, simple lines are such a great trend at the moment," notes Winn. "Square necklines have a really beautiful couture aesthetic which instantly feels feminine and striking. Our brides have been loving this neckline which has definitely had a resurgence over the last year. We’re totally here for it! Square necklines also look amazing layered with a bridal cape or organza top for a transitional look."

2021 saw an uptake in brides looking for black wedding dresses, but 2022 and 2023 are all about dopamine dressing suggests Voss. "Colour is so big at the moment from multicoloured confetti, bright coloured wedding shoes, electric florals and statement bridesmaid ensembles. Normally, I say to hell with fashion "rules," but a wedding is certainly one place where I'll happily abide by tradition as a guest—after all, it's not my day to shine. The unspoken guidelines include not wearing white and not upstaging the couple, and they're easy enough to follow for one evening.

That said, when the groom specifically asks you to wear white and dresses you in his own designs, that's a whole different story. This was clearly the case at the wedding of designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri in Charleval, France. Nearly all of the attendees wore white to the celebrity-packed event, and the lucky ones, including Dua Lipa, were dressed by Jacquemus himself. Her completely sheer, underwear-exposing dress transformed in my mind from a rule breaker to the perfect French fashion moment. "I can appreciate that starting your wedding dress journey can be overwhelming for some brides, so I think it's really important to do your research and understand exactly what features are non-negotiable for you in a gown," says Megan Ziems, CEO and founder of bridal boutique Grace Loves Lace. "Another tip would be to not bring too many guests along to your appointment, as too many opinions can become confusing. Stay true to how you feel in the gown regardless of what others think. What's most important is that you feel beautiful and comfortable on your big day."

Trying on different options is key, agrees Grace Richmond, co-founder of preloved designer bridal boutique The Loop. Ultimately, you might not immediately know what you want, but you will know how a dress makes you feel. "The most important part is to work out your overall style, fit and vibe. Book lots of showroom appointments and get trying; the more is the merrier! We pride ourselves on providing a comfortable, easy and fun trying-on experience—and that is half the battle."

Last year saw an unprecedented increase in searches for black wedding dresses, proving that there is a need to cater to the fashion-forward bride who eschews tradition. 1. Budget: "Everyone has a budget. Stick to yours, and I promise it will help it guide your search. Also, always ask how much alterations are in all appointments. These can be hefty add-ons, so it's always good to budget."

2. Venue & Environment: "Narrow your search by eliminating gowns that won't work for your venue and/or the environment/weather. For instance, if you are getting married in an English garden in July, don't try on gowns with long fitted sleeves and huge trains, as they won't be hugely practical! But if sleeves and a train are part of your vision, opt for a lightweight jacket and long cathedral veil that you can keep on or take off."

3. Fit & Feel: "Most brides first port of call when they get engaged is to hit up Pinterest/Instagram for inspiration. While great to fill your mood board, I would recommend looking in your own wardrobe first. Think of the pieces that make you feel amazing (that LBD with a square neckline and low back for instance) and search for wedding dress styles that have similarities. You probably love those wardrobe staple because they fit and flatter you best!"

1. '90S-INSPIRED SLIP DRESSES 

As it turns out, the current '90s revival isn't limited to halternecks, flatforms and denim. It's working its way into bridal trends too, albeit in a much chicer way. Think the minimal slinkiness of Calvin Klein, Helmut Lang and vintage Versace. "There is no doubt that we’re in the middle a major '90s throwback," says Ziems."I love seeing this influence coming back into fashion and beauty and being brought into bridal with the return of the slip dress.

"For our brides, sleek silk and satin gowns offer a modern and elevated take on traditional '90s bridal slips. Perfect for elopements or for the bride who wants to celebrate simplicity without compromising on style, our silk and satin gowns, such as the Bella, drape around the body as a celebration of the female form." 

2. VOLUMINOUS SLEEVES 

Thanks to its statement silhouette and sheer comfort factor, the XL sleeve is a dress you can rely on, and it makes sense that the dress of the summer could be elevated for bridalwear too."Puffy statement sleeves are everywhere at the moment, and we've created several custom clover gowns over the last 18 months with the sleeves as a very popular focal point," says Voss. "From exaggerated duchess satin puff sleeves (think Princess Di) to soft, tiered tulle sleeves with cuff detailing, sleeves are definitely a trend. This is a huge shift from the popular deep-V or sweetheart necklines that have dominated the industry for the past 20 years."

3. THIGH-HIGH SPLITS

Yes, you read that correctly. When it comes to splits this season, the thigh's the limit."We’ve seen a lot of brides loving a thigh-high split as part of their wedding look. It’s sexy, chic and a little less conservative," notes Ziems. In other words, the modern bride doesn't have to be demure; she just has to be herself. "A classic silhouette with a gorgeous split adds a wow moment to a gown, and what bride doesn’t want that? It's clear that brides seem to be leaning towards styles that are more modern and a little daring while still giving them that air of elegance."

4. SUSTAINABLE AND SECOND-HAND DRESSES 

As conscious shoppers make steps towards buying better and more ethically and rewearing clothes for longer, the bridal fashion industry is finally catching up, suggests Richmond. And it's affecting the way brides shop for the better. "Overall, we fully understand and appreciate that in order for the bridal industry to achieve complete transparency, a circular business model and 0% carbon emissions, we need to continue making a lot of changes."

"At The Loop, our aim is to promote and highlight a new way of appreciating an item’s quality and longevity. We set out to amplify the belief, that considering the finite resources needed to create luxury clothing, more thought should be given to their lifecycles thereafter. Sourcing a dress for a wedding day is an incredibly exciting process, and looking at a second-hand option is fast becoming part of

this journey. No less new, and no less special, sourcing a preowned piece is simply an opportunity to consciously extend an item's story and build on its value rather than take it away. If we can encourage all new brides-to-be to view second-hand dresses as an equally special and viable option, then it will be an incredibly rewarding and importantly, sustainable achievement."

5. OPEN BACKS 

One that summer brides will certainly appreciate, open- and low-backed dresses are not only practical for keeping you cool, but they make an entrance too. "Brides have been loving an open- and low-back moment in lace, silks and satins—it's the perfect way to turn heads and bring an element of drama to your look," Ziems assures. "It's been a top request, and Grace brides really can't get enough of this look. 6. PLENTY OF COLOUR 

Your wedding is a celebration, and what says party better than bursts of colour and texture? White dresses might be traditional, but colourful dresses embody the personality and spirit of the bride, and more than ever, colourful dresses are topping the list. "It's all about colour! I don't think I have ever seen as much colour in weddings as I have this year," notes Voss. "We are seeing it in bridal parties, flowers and accessories alike. From hues of electric sherberts to funky stationary, anything goes (and no detail is unconsidered!). Heart Zeena's wedding is an example of mega inspo."

7. STATEMENT ACCESSORIES 

Choosing the dress is often thought of as one of the most important parts of the wedding, but what about the accessories, an equally integral part in pulling a look together? "Simplicity in bridal is definitely on-trend (think Nicola Peltz or Lucy Williams), and uncomplicated gowns are a good base for brides choosing a statement veil with bold embroidery, or sky-high emerald-green heels as the focal point of their bridal look," suggests Voss, and Ziems agrees good accessories can complete the look, but they can also be meaningful too. 

"Brides have always loved to accessorise, and this year is no exception. Pearl accessories have been at the top of almost every modern bride's list because they've always been an indicator of timeless elegance and luxury, which makes them the perfect addition to any wedding look. But Brides also love heirloom pieces that can be passed down for generations after the wedding has come and gone.

"Earrings and necklaces have always been popular, but now we've noticed more brides gravitating towards accessories, such as our back pieces and anklets for something a little different."

In a press release, Ralph Lauren detailed exactly what went into the creation of the first of three dresses: "The handkerchief wedding gown reimagines a turtleneck column dress with the addition of a dramatic ruffle hem. Over 1000 hand-cut handkerchiefs and 500 metres of fabric were cut into ruffles and attached by hand, creating a voluminous, romantic skirt. The intricately constructed sleeve is inset with a cascading ruffle, draped from the back of the turtleneck to the shoulder to create a romantic, heritage-inspired sensibility."

Next up was a hand-embroidered gown bedecked with thousands of pearls along with silk tulle and Swarovski crystals. I don't know about you, but I find wedding-guest dressing hard to the point where I've started to dread the sound of those invites slipping through the letterbox. (Spoiler alert: I've had a lot this year.) I'm just not a dressy-dress person. More often than not, you'll find me in some combination of a T-shirt and jeans, even for nights out and fancy dinners, which unfortunately means I haven't built up a roster of dresses over the years. There's also something in me that resents buying a traditional "occasionwear" dress, which can often be expensive even on the high street, when I know I'm just not going to get that much wear out of it.

The older I get, the more I find myself prioritising versatility in my wardrobe, and before every big purchase, I try to ask myself whether I could wear that piece to work, on weekends and on date nights. So this year, I've decided to apply the same logic to wedding-guest dresses and only purchase styles I can repurpose for multiple occasions—anything that doesn't fit those requirements I'll rent. I also wanted to spend time trying a lot of styles because, like dating, finding clothes you truly love is often a numbers game. This also means being a little more organised than I normally am and really considering whether dresses work rather than panic-buying at the last minute and settling for something less than perfect.

So if you're wondering what I've been doing with my last few weekends, it's exactly that: trying on a bunch of dresses and figuring out which ones really deserve a place in my wardrobe. After trying so many, there were some clear winners that impressed me so much I thought it might be useful to share them with you in case you’re currently in the same predicament.

Below, you'll find the nine dresses that are versatile but impressive in their own right and comfortable but still sexy (in my opinion), all of which I can genuinely recommend. For reference, I'm 5'2", size 10–12, and bra size 34A, so of course, not all of these dresses will be perfect for everyone. 1. Reformation Frasier Dress

Size: 10 (US 6)

Style Notes: This beautiful dress is probably more figure-hugging than I would normally opt for (I'm an oversized-shapes girl at heart), but I was surprised at how sexy it felt while still being modest enough for a wedding. I could also see myself wearing it with lace-up flat sandals for a nice dinner on a summer or holiday evening.

2. Self-Portrait Floral Dress

Style Notes: For more formal events and weddings, Self-Portrait is always one of my go-tos, and I've been drawn to this style ever since it first dropped at the beginning of the season. Kate Middleton is a big fan of wearing these dresses to multiple events, so if it's good enough for the Duchess, it's good enough for me.

3. Reformation Teyana Dress

Size: 10 (US 6)

Style Notes: While initially, it doesn't seem like there's anything extraordinary about this pretty floral dress, when I put it on and it flattered in all the right places, it instantly went to the top of my favourites list. It would work for so many different weddings from relaxed countryside occasions to more formal affairs. And I would also wear it with Birkenstocks for casual plans like pub drinks as well. The thigh split does go quite high, but it's still subtle, and you could easily add a couple of stitches at the top if needed. All in all, well done, Reformation.

4. Nobody's Child Coco Dress

Size: 10

Style Notes: I'm always so impressed with Nobody's Child dresses. The quality is excellent for the affordable price, and this one feels especially premium in this linen-blend fabric and muted colour. One of my biggest tips for wedding-guest dressing is to look out for statement features like these ruffles, a bright colour or a backless design so that it feels a bit more exciting than your average dress.

4. H&M Voluminous Satin Dress

Size: Small

Style Notes: Affordable this may be, but the bold tangerine colour, loose draping and scoop back make it feel expensive. It's an unexpected choice for a wedding, but that's what I love about it. Plus, I can so see myself wearing it with flip-flops and a bikini on my way to a beach bar on holiday. Heaven.

Style Notes: Clearly, I'm very into a ruffle right now, but there's something so chic about how the monochrome colour and simple cut-outs balance the frills on this style. And yes, you can wear black to a wedding.

Style Notes: Okay, I'm cheating a little bit with this one. I actually bought this style at the beginning of last year, but since it's still available, I couldn't not include it here. I wore this dress to every one of the four weddings I attended last year (and received so many compliments). I've also worn it on holiday, to work and around the house with simple flat sandals. You can bet I'm planning on wearing it to at least a couple of this year's nuptials.

8. Free People Kalina Dress

Size: Small

Style Notes: When I think of Free People, I usually connect it with beachy, boho dresses that would be far too revealing for a wedding that wasn't on a Bahamian beach. But when I ordered this for general summer wear and tried it on, it dawned on me that despite being linen and easy to dress down, it's also really easy to dress up. The puff sleeves add just enough drama, and the on-trend cut-out is adjustable, so it can be made subtle.

Style Notes: Okay, a linen dress may have to be reserved for those slightly more relaxed weddings. But with a pair of heels, a dressy bag, jewellery and lipstick, this day dress becomes event-ready. And for only £50, it's exactly the affordable versatility I'm looking for.
