If there’s one thing we know well at Who What Wear, it’s jeans. Day in, day out, we cover the biggest denim trends, the best new fits and the brands fashion people consistently come back to. Over the past month, the weather has been hinting at the arrival of summer with a couple of heatwaves and sunny spells. Now, the summer solstice is behind us, and we're settling into a new rhythm of consistently warm days. With the sudden temperature drop here in the UK, the only thing I want to do is bundle up in cashmere. The new Uniqlo : C collection is overflowing with everyday pieces that still feel incredibly elevated. Mostly thanks to the quality of the fabrics and modern yet timeless designs. On the collection, Waight Keller says, "I was most particular about the fabric when designing the collection. When you're working at a different price point, the way the fabric translates is very important to achieve the right silhouette, and so this was a critical part... really looking at what [fabrics] were going to create the most successful and beautiful result for the price." She continues, "I have to say I've been very impressed [with Uniqlo]. Things like the cottons, and the nylons, are of an exceptional level." High praise from someone who has worked with the most luxurious materials in the game.

Be they a content creator, an editor or someone who simply loves to shop, every self-confessed "fashion person" has their thing. Some love shoes, others have brimming jewellery boxes, but for me, it's all about bags. Over my life so far, I've accumulated my treasures, from high-end investments to high-street gems and little-known brands that will hold space in my handbag wardrobe forever. Right now, however, there's one bag that's left all the rest tucked into dust bags in my wardrobe: Uniqlo's shoulder bag. 

As you'll soon discover, I could talk about bags all day long. Along with the various trending styles and statement bags I've accumulated, there's a special place in my heart for bags that combine utility and style. And this Uniqlo bag ticks both of these off. Even better, it comes in at under £15. But trust me, there's plenty more to love about this handbag. 

When I first saw the Uniqlo crossbody trending on TikTok, I figured it was simple, sleek and useful. When I bought it, I realised there was much more to it than first meets the eye. Firstly, the rounded shape and soft construction are perfect for running errands, going to work and basically any plans you have. Secondly, you'll find two pockets inside to keep the essentials (read: lip balm) close to hand. Finally, and most importantly, the size is incredibly deceptive. As someone who tends to overpack for even a simple coffee run, I can say this bag fits far more than you'd ever guess. Things I've fit into this bag include an umbrella, my full makeup bag and my greatest achievement, a full-size Pret baguette plus ginger shot. What's more, as shopping data experts at Lyst just revealed this week, Uniqlo's shoulder bag is officially 2023's most in-demand item, based on the online shopping behaviour of more than 200 million shoppers a year searching, browsing and buying fashion across brands and stores online. It also takes into account social media mentions and traction.

Speaking of the bag, Lyst said, "Uniqlo’s shoulder bag is the hottest product of the quarter. Retailing at under £15, it’s the cheapest product to ever be featured in The Lyst Index. It went viral on TikTok, generating over 59 million views on the platform and has sold out multiple times across multiple colourways." Seriously impressive.

Do you remember where you were when H&M launched its first collaboration Versace? Or to go back even further, Topshop's experimental collaboration with Christopher Kane? I do, not least because I have always been fashion obsessed, but also because as a high-street devotee, I always feel my heart skip a beat whenever an affordable, accessible designer collection is announced.

Uniqlo is no stranger to iconic collaborations. At any given time, you can find pieces from the likes from Jil Sander, Mame Kurogouchi, Inès de La Fressange and, of course, JW Anderson. The well-considered, wearable collections are always executed in the way that only Uniqlo can, with deft precision and an incredible price point. So you can imagine my delight when the first Marni x Uniqlo partnership debuted earlier in the year. The collection was a joyful edit of printed dresses, shorts and skirts with an equally strong menswear offering, and it perfectly balanced the clean lines and functionality of Uniqlo with the avant-garde, expressive creativity of Marni. After predictable success, the collaboration is back, and I must say, the second line may be even better than the first…

I was invited to see a preview of the collection before it landed on site, and the first thing that immediately stood out was the colour palette. If you thought Uniqlo was all moody tonals and neutrals, think again. Marni brings a cacophony of colour, print and texture to an otherwise drab British winter and just might be the dose of colour that the high-street needs.

There's no mistaking that this is a winter range full of the thermals and heat-tech that Uniqlo is known for, but the introduction of chocolate brown, punchy blue and pops of citrus brights is wholly unexpected. A word to the loyal minimalists before you turn on your heels, though: Although classic Marni styling would suggest layering up pieces to clash and colour-block, I'm just as intrigued by the idea of wearing key pieces as separates with an all-black or neutral look. So I call that something for everyone. 

In the name of research, I had to see and test-drive the collection in a bid to find out whether Uniqlo would be continuing its impressive collab success with another Marni partnership or whether it was a one-hit wonder. Ask me any day of the week which high street store I actually buy the most pieces from and the answer might surprise you: Uniqlo. Sure, Zara has its trend strengths, H&M stocks everything you could imagine, the quality at COS or Arket is unmistakable, M&S can be relied upon for wardrobe staples, and there's always something fun to find at River Island… but in terms of the affordable brand that has held the most reliable, long-lasting position in my wardrobe (and is worn by me on the regular), it's Japanese-born Uniqlo. I have pieces that date way back—a coat from the first Jil Sander +J collection (2009!), a printed co-ord from the range created with Celia Birtwell (2013) and basics like HEATTECH roll-necks that I've also owned for goodness knows how long.

Hyper-focused on getting the basics right, I find that for the days when I want to wear comfy, chic, minimalistic pieces that never feel outdated, Uniqlo is the one. Part of the brand's doubling down on the essentials is bolstered by their impressive dedication to innovation (try saying that after a glass of wine). From HEATTECH to 3D knits, I'm always amazed at how premium their fabrics feel. I also have discovered, as a petite girl, that this is the one brand that doesn't require me to take everything to the tailors after purchasing—something my calendar and I are eternally grateful for. 

I know I'm not alone in my love of Uniqlo. Only a few seasons ago did a flock of Vogue editors turn up at London Fashion Week in the same uniform of white tee + Uniqlo beige trousers. It was essentially an homage to The Row, achieved on a far more modest budget. But it is a great representation of how many fashion insiders use Uniqlo to their advantage: expensive-looking, simple pieces that could easily pass as designer thanks to their quality, fit and understated nature. 

1. THE KNITWEAR

I've worn this knitted Uniqlo dress for so many winters in a row now. The ribbed boat-neck neckline, navy colourway and longer midi hemline make it all seem far more premium than its high-street roots.

The black roll-necks I wear all winter long? HEATTECH! They are the perfect layering tool to keep toasty. I layer them under lightweight dresses to get extra mileage out of summery items but HEATTECH thermals are just as great when you really want to pack in the warmth under a padded coat, for example. I used to rely upon these pieces religiously when visiting New York for February's Fashion Week—when the temperatures drop, nothing else helps keep the cold out quite like it.

There are literally thousands of influencers that I can name at the drop of a hat but, right now, there's one particular dresser whose feed I continuously consult for inspiration. Why? 1) because she's French and, as such, dresses with a certain je ne sais quoi that I'm hellbent on replicating. And 2) because she's been blessed with the rare gift of being able to uncover the most expensive-looking high street pieces before they blow up. I'm talking about Aïde Sané, otherwise known as @basicstouch; the minimalist who proves that you needn't have an endless bank balance to dress like rich girl.

With a wardrobe that largely consists of pieces from H&M, Arket, Uniqlo, and Zara, I found myself needed to know what it is that she looks for in the high-street pieces she expertly selects. So I asked—and her insight was on-point. Below, she shares her high street shopping advice, plus her tips and tricks for making affordable clothing and accessories look super premium.

"High-street clothes aren’t necessarily bad quality—you can find great and affordable gems, but my first tip would be to look for quality fabrics, for instance, like wool. Get used to checking those care labels. I also look for wool and cashmere blend knitwear as they’re far less expensive than 100% cashmere options. My favourite style is a turtleneck—I love when the collar is big and thick because I think it looks more expensive and high end. I’m also currently loving V-neck or crew-neck knits that I can layer with a lighter turtleneck underneath; it gives you a chic vibe, plus you’re not going to get cold.”

"The coat I always think looks the most expensive is, believe it or not, an oversized coat; especially if you’re wearing tighter clothes underneath like slim jeans. I know people are sometimes afraid to take a bigger size because they think the proportions will be way off, but sizing up from can make a huge difference to the overall silhouette. What I love about this trick is that it also makes it easier to layer with thicker knitwear while still feeling comfortable. That said, as well as oversized outerwear, this season, I’m also really loving the belted coat. I look for long options as they feel elegant. Whichever coat style you choose, again pay attention to the materials and make sure you’re buoy quality. Colour-wise, I always opt for neutrals like black, white, beige, brown, navy, and khaki. I find they never date and that you can wear just about anything underneath them and you’ll still look put-together.”

"When I was younger, I used to hate when my mum would dress me entirely in one colour—I thought it was so old-fashioned. But now I realise that it looks very put-together and sophisticated. Wearing an all-beige, all-brown, all-black or even all-white outfits is probably the easiest way to look expensive with affordable items; the trickiest part is knowing where to find pieces that go together. But, if you look and shop from the same brand, sometimes they tend to use similar colours or the same palette on various garments—I’ll often order a few pieces in the same colour with the idea of wearing them together. Just add gold jewellery, and you’re good to go.”

"I like the challenge of getting dressed according to the weather—that means wearing raining boots when it’s raining, a matching scarf and beanie when it’s cold. I can’t think of anything more ridiculous than getting cold just for the sake of looking cute. So wear a nice chunky scarf and a beautiful neutral beanie, and you’ll look elegant, chic, and stay warm, whatever the forecast may be. It’s a small detail, but I always think wearing matching knitted accessories (or at least accessories that are a similar colour) can make your overall outfit look more expensive.”

When the news came that Topshop's parent company, Arcadia, would be going into administration, the entire team couldn't help but reminisce on the good old days: The memories of our first shopping trips to Topshop as teenagers still feel fresh, and we could all remember what we bought. (Me? A very businessy pinstripe pencil skirt.) But it also made me take stock of what's in my current wardrobe from the high street. I found myself asking, Which items do I wear the most, and which stores do I go back to time and again for decent, affordable clothes? And the answer even threw me: Uniqlo. Upon inspection, it's the high-street label that I actually own the most of. I love Zara as much as the next fashion fiend, I often find interesting pieces at Mango, and of course, there are some Topshop gems in the mix, but it's the Japanese basics purveyor that appears to cover the most acreage within my closet. There are some pieces that date back to 2009 (from the Jil Sander collaboration), and I still have them all hanging up on my rails today, ready to be worn at any given moment. 

So I set myself a challenge: to centre every outfit for a week around my Uniqlo buys, past and present. And it was, may I say, a breeze. They're all pretty classic and are definitely well made considering the price tags. (Uniqlo does invest a great deal in fabric technology.) And for some reason, unlike many other brands, they fit my petite frame well. Keep scrolling to see my seven days in Uniqlo and the shopping tips I always use when buying from the brand.

What I'm wearing: This button-through knitted dress I bought a few months ago has had a lot of wear already. It has the potential to be so frumpy, what with being brown, knitted, and actually quite A-line and loose-fitting without the belt, but there's something quite understated and nice about wearing something so plain. Here, I've styled it with a vintage belt, glasses, and some slouchy Vagabond boots.

This dress is no longer available, but there are some similar knitted styles I'd recommend. 

What I'm wearing: This clever "3D" knitted dress (can you spy a theme here yet?) has no seams in it! So that means it's really slinky and lovely to wear. It's perfect for the kind of smart/comfortable ratio I'm seeking while working from home. This particular piece has also recently sold out, but there is a very similar version coming through for the new +J collection. Here, I've styled it very simply with some suede Bimba y Lola boots and pearl earrings from Anni Lu.

What I'm wearing: I couldn't afford Lenki Lenki's amazing belted puffer, so I raided the men's department in Uniqlo, bought a puffer jacket a few sizes bigger, and added in one of my plainest belts to get that cinched waist and volume over the hips. I haven't looked back since winter 2018.

The women's down jackets in Uniqlo always tend to be tight-fitting and twee for my liking, so be sure to shop from the boys on this one.

What I'm wearing: You might not associate Uniqlo with jazzy prints, but this matchy-matchy set was, in fact, created in collaboration with pattern queen Celia Birtwell. This twosome of culottes and a PJ-style shirt dates back to 2013, and I'm still convinced it feels current. Right now, you'll find a similar-but-different kind of co-ord via the new Marimekko collection at Uniqlo.

I usually wear this in the summer, as the leg length looks good with sandals and the fabric is quite lightweight, but here, it's combined with gold jewellery and the aforementioned slouchy boots.

What I'm wearing: Perhaps my favourite Uniqlo item of all, I bought this Uniqlo and Lemaire jumper dress back in 2016 in both navy and bright red. It was the precursor to Christophe Lemaire becoming the brand's artistic director. As a designer who specialises in minimalism via top-quality goods, it's no wonder the label continues to please me! 

Here, I've styled the dress with a snake-print belt from Banana Republic and my new trusty boots again. They are so comfy.

What I'm wearing: First things first, I have to admit that this does need a steam and probably a dry-clean, but in the name of time-saving and completing this article, I had to bung on the fab Carine Roitfeld x Uniqlo coat as is.

I have always loved the French editor's waist-nipping Prada coat (that I'm pretty sure she modelled this on), so it was a no-brainer to purchase. Timeless, even though I got it back in 2016, I styled this as Roitfeld would—with pull-on thigh-high boots.

I also own a similar double-breasted style from the first +J collection with Uniqlo in 2009. It's more lightweight than this one, so it's better suited to autumnal months rather than a cold snap. Unfortunately, the brand doesn't currently stock anything of a similarly sculpted fit at the moment, but there is a great khaki coat from the JW Anderson collection which has a few sizes left.

What I'm wearing: Uniqlo's U collection (created by Lemaire) keeps me well stocked with jumpers each winter. I've got this black ribbed mock-neck and beige and red crew-neck cropped styles, all of which I wear on repeat.

This style is a fine-gauge knit and therefore pretty good to tuck into high-waisted pieces, like these Mango faux leather trousers I've just purchased. I would suggest trying both your normal size and a size smaller when it comes to all Uniqlo knitwear pieces, as they can occasionally run big.

As part of an ongoing partnership, British-born fashion designer Hana Tajima teamed up with Uniqlo to design a modest F/W 20 collection that was released last week. Her designs experiment with elegant silhouettes that are intentionally nonrestrictive and comfortable. Part of this comfort comes from the pieces themselves—the collection is stocked with items like breezy wide-cut pants, loose button-down tops, and flowy dresses in an array of rich neutrals such as sage green, cream, and rust. The other part comes in from Uniqlo’s innovative fabrics, such as Airism, which has the technology to wick moisture and release heat, all while providing UV protection. That technology is exactly how Tajima is able to design a layering piece like a turtleneck that can help you stay cool and that you can wear year-round.

Tajima’s collection for Uniqlo isn’t just about modest clothing, though. It’s about clothing that allows the person wearing it to express their identity and confidence. "We women are constantly adapting to change. I want clothing that is always a part of myself, items that are able to shift freely and easily from one style to something else,” Tajima said in a press release. "While retaining comfort, by focusing on form over decoration, I want these clothes to redefine what it is to be feminine. To let our own personal stories be the stories we wear.”

We spoke with Tajima to hear more about the collection and to answer some of the fashion questions she's asked about most. Ahead, learn about where she looks for design inspiration, her top styling tips, and the pieces she’s already wearing.

Where do you get inspiration for your designs?

"Long answer is that I’m really interested in the way that clothes are both the expression of something very esoteric and something outside of ourselves, but the form in which they present is this very tangible, human thing that we can all understand. And so the interplay of those two things is very exciting to me and very interesting because I do think that clothes are powerful. They can change the way we think and the way we think about ourselves. So that is the main inspiration on why I do what I do.

"But simple answer is that sometimes I’ll see someone with a sense of style that I think is really intriguing, and through the process of trying to figure out why I think it’s so interesting, that inspires me to want to make things.”

Which colours go well together?

"For colours that go well together, especially ones that you’re wearing, what you can do is either just go full-on head-to-toe in one colour—doesn’t matter how bright it is—you know it’s going to match because it’s the same colour. Or keep your base pretty neutral, so darks, blacks, and blues, with a pop of colour or neutrals with then a little pop of colour. Because if you just have a really neutral base with a little pop of colour, you know that’s going to work.”

What are your tips for dressing if you're shorter?

"Tips for dressing shorter—which I am—it’s really just about balance and proportion. So that might mean if you’re shorter, higher waistlines to give you a little extra length in your leg, but whatever size you are, whatever height you are, the most important thing is that your clothes fit you. So make friends with a tailor, find someone that you trust, someone that's really good at what they do, or learn to do it yourself."

Look, I know it's a fashion cliché to say that investing in a classic item is important but honestly, it really is. The reasons are varied, but for me it's all about the cost-per-wear and because when you find something that you love and makes you feel good, you should stick to it. It's why the linen shirt is the ultimate summer staple. Whether it's long-sleeved, short-sleeved or sleeveless, there is no denying the versatility of the piece. Uniqlo has mastered the art of the linen shirt. And what's more, it's 100% natural fabric, grown in Europe which is breathable yet durable thanks to long fibres (meaning it won't fluff or deform).

So what can you expect to find in Uniqlo's premium linen collection? The line offers an incredible variety of shirt silhouettes and colours. There's the traditional long-sleeved shirt that comes in muted colours as well as pink, green and pastel blue. Then there's a 3/4 length shirt with a skipper collar (for those who aren't crazy about buttons), perfect for wearing with black trousers. And finally, my favourite, there's the sleeveless shirt. I'll be frank: sleeveless isn't usually a style I'd go for but in the summer, even rolled up sleeves don't do the job of keeping you cool. However, I was instantly drawn to its relaxed style but love that when buttoned up it looks smart. I styled it three different ways: with a skirt, a pair of jeans and a light jacket, and lastly with a pair of linen trousers and a short-sleeved jumper over the top, because the UK's summer is always unpredictable. Linen and I go way back. Ever since my early 20s, I've been a fan of white linen trousers—the main reason being I felt like they made me appear more sophisticated. And actually, I think they did. It has a slouchy nonchalance that gives the impression you're a rich lady on holiday. Right now, linen is having a revival thanks to the resurgence of the minimalist trend over the past few seasons, and it's a material I find myself returning to every summer. It's especially ideal for keeping you cool in heatwaves but means you can still stay smart.

From boxy shirts to flowy trousers as well as oversize dresses and shackets, there are some seriously smart (yet incredibly comfortable) pieces to choose from. They're great for your working-from-home wardrobe (hello, Zoom outfit) and flexible enough for going on a walk. Style Notes: I love matching the colour of my shirt with my trousers. Here, I've opted for the boxy linen shirt with high-waisted trousers. You can leave the shirt untucked, but I like the silhouette with it in. Finish it off with a gold chain (mine's vintage). 

Style Notes: I love minimalism and muted colours, but sometimes you need something a bit punchier. I love the yellow hue of this shirt jacket paired with the black trousers. Important: These trousers were as comfortable as any joggers. 

Style Notes: Full disclosure: I didn't think I'd like this dress, but when I put it on, I loved it. The tie helps to make it feel chicer and more polished. I added a pair of gold earrings and some red lipstick to give it a gentle glamorous edge. Finally, there's the belted jacket, which is more like a trench coat. Wear on a walk or just around the house.

MORE UNIQLO LINEN WE LOVE

JW Anderson is always the designer I’m most excited to see on the London Fashion Week schedule. He can make a trench coat look cooler than anyone and an item like a cardigan look theatrical. But he also understands how to dress for the everyday, as shown by his long-standing collaboration with Uniqlo. Today the designer has launched his spring collab with the high-street brand, and he's been inspired by the quintessential British summer uniform. The capsule plays with the print that he says will always remind him of his school days, gingham, with checked jeans, tote bags and tiered dresses. His hero items in the collection are the checked jeans and matching jackets, but we are just as into the Oxford shirts with bows on the sleeves and long-line trench coats.

As I write this from the comfort of my home office with my shearling slippers on, I'm cold. I always feel the slightest chill (even the most subtle breeze on a far-flung holiday can make me shiver). So when it comes to winter, I've learned how best to prepare for the harsher climes.

If you're in the market for expertly crafted wardrobe essentials (which I always am), then you'll already be aware of just how excellent Uniqlo is. Known for both its quality and technical fabrics, the high-street giant has become a minimalist style haunt. That said, there's nothing basic about it. Over recent years, the brand has commanded additional fashion clout thanks in part to its collaborations with JW Anderson and Alexander Wang, putting it firmly on the radar of both editors and influencers alike.

This winter, however, I think its collection is stronger than ever. With items from a host of chic outerwear (everything from cropped parkas to pea coats), any-occasion dresses and impossibly soft knitwear to off-duty flannel shirting and the most perfect-fitting jeans, I rarely cross Uniqlo's threshold without garnishing an armful of bags. Well, at prices usually sitting around the £30 to £40 mark, it's hard to contest.

If there's one place I go to find the perfect basics, it's Uniqlo. Known for both its quality and technical fabrics, the high-street giant has made itself a key go-to for fashion lovers as well as the general public. Its wide variety of high-quality knitwear, trousers and forever coats never disappoint, plus all items usually come in pretty much every colour thinkable, thus there's always something to love for everyone. Personally, I love to sneak into the men's department for the perfect white T-shirt, puffa coat or oversized sweatshirt.

However, many fashion editors and stylist will attest to the fact that Uniqlo is more than this. Over the past few years, the brand has focused on more fashion-forward collections including collaborations with J.W.Anderson, Jil Sander and, most recently, Alexander Wang (and they often sell out overnight). Additionally, its Uniqlo U line, designed in the Paris-based atelier by artistic director Christophe Lemaire, looks to reinvent wardrobe classics through using craftsmanship and new shapes, which gives us a wide variety of affordable timeless pieces to choose from. If there's one place to find the best affordable trousers, it's Uniqlo. With a wide variety of options in different shapes and materials, there's something for everyone.

We love the merino and cashmere knits from Uniqlo. They're the perfect basic for any winter wardrobe and bound to keep you warm and cosy. We love pairing these knits back with a slip skirt or styled with a pair of jeans.

If you're looking for a winter coat to wear season after season, Uniqlo has you covered. With a great variety in coats in different cuts and colours, we're sure you'll find your favourite too.

Ask any fashion editor who attends the shows in February and they'll tell you the same thing: Uniqlo's Heattech pieces are a godsend. They're also quite chic for the winter months without having to layer. The new Alexander Wang–designed pieces are particularly good.

If there's one coat style every woman needs in her wardrobe, it's a classic trench. With some great styles at even better price points, we're sure you'll find one you'll want to buy.

One of my favourite things to shop in Uniqlo is the men's department. Everything fits a bit more oversized, which makes it looks that much cooler. We love how Sabrina styled her sweatshirt with layered necklaces to add some pizazz.

Staying warm in winter without looking like Joey Tribbiani (aka wearing all the clothes) is not an easy feat. While I have no problem waxing lyrical about the joys of a stunning statement jumper, sometimes, the reality of surviving the cold months is a little less glamorous, particularly when you're making the rounds of the local park (for the 100th time). It was whilst interning that I picked up on one particular layering hack that has seriously changed my winter dressing game. I was told that the fashion editor's secret to keeping warm whilst still looking pulled-together and polished was a distinctly practical-looking £40 gilet.

Coming in a range of colours, Uniqlo's down versions are so light yet super insulating. Their selling point lies in their ability to sit invisibly underneath coats, and thanks to an adjustable neckline, they can even work with undone jackets and blazers (as seen below). Once I wore it out, I never turned back. Suddenly, I could wear my favourite shirts and light knits in winter without having to pile on bulky layers. Plus, if you need any further reason to make the investment, stylish A-lister Katie Holmes was spotted out and about last year with her own layering gilet—clearly, I'm not the only one who is a quilted-vest convert.

When I heard that J.W.Anderson was teaming up with Uniqlo for a collection, I had high hopes—it's a pairing that aesthetically makes perfect sense. But when the collection was unveiled, I had a bigger shopping list than even I expected, as these are (truly great) clothes that you can wear day in, day out rather than those recognisable statement items you tend to see in high-street collaborations with designers.

The collection feels British with its cold weather–ready quilting, lots of tartan, Fair Isle sweaters, classic trench coats and back-to-school duffles. On the top of my wish list? A rainbow-striped roll-neck jumper with a matching scarf, as well as a trench coat with tartan cuffs. And the good news is that I won't have to choose only one item—the prices are excellent, with coats ranging between £90 to £140, shirts at £35 and jumpers from £35 to £40.

Style and practicality aren't exactly synonymous with each other, but that's not to say the two never come together to make one harmonious relationship. You need only look at the resurgence of flat shoes and the never-ending popularity of the sneaker in recent years to know they can be pretty fashionable bedfellows. However, UK-born designer Hana Tajima has taken the merging of fashion and comfort to another level with a new collaboration with high-street favourite Uniqlo. Think wide draped pants and flowing dresses that are just as feminine as they are comfortable. We couldn't imagine a better time to launch the aforementioned collection than during the summer, as it will be perfect for keeping cool on hot days or when you're on holiday. More important, it's coming to stores and online at Uniqlo today.

For any woman who doesn’t think fast-fashion retailers’ youthful offerings are in keeping with her sophisticated taste, we come bearing good news. Topshop’s 50-year-old creative director, Kate Phelan, gave her expert two cents on the subject to The Guardian: “There’s an abiding perception that the high street doesn’t serve older women very well,” she said, “but in my view, it’s better than it has ever been. The choice is huge — whether that’s Topshop, Uniqlo or COS. It’s not one stop that gives you everything you want, more that everybody offers something very different.” She specifically cites Topshop’s Boutique label as where she shops for classic pieces like camel coats and white cotton shirts.

We’re in complete agreement that the classic, sophisticated offerings from these three brands would be perfect additions to any older woman’s closet.

The inimitable Carine Roitfeld's first Uniqlo collection last year was everything we had hoped it would be. There was the kind of sharp tailoring we're used to seeing on our favourite French editrix, alongside her signature pencil skirts, leather, leopard print, silk camisoles and punk knitwear—as well as styling tips aplenty.
