It hasn't been very long since I returned from my holiday to the South of France, but I’m already dreaming of going back. People always ask me where I find inspiration, and honestly, I never travel looking for it. I travel because I love seeing new places, getting lost in shops, markets and bookstores, and because I’m incredibly curious. The inspiration usually comes later. I’ve also realised that travelling doesn’t really change my taste; I’ve always liked the same things, and it just keeps growing with everywhere I visit. The Hamptons was one of those places.

I wasn’t obsessed with the big houses or the beaches. Rather, it was everything around them. Months later, I’ll be choosing a fabric, designing a belt or getting dressed, and I’ll realise that something I saw there has quietly found its way back. Not because I’m trying to re-create it, but because it now lives with all the other references I’ve collected over the years. I think that’s how taste grows; not by changing who you are, but by adding little layers to what already exists.

When I look back, I can almost trace them: Menorca, Paris, Jaipur, New York and now The Hamptons. They all left me with something different. Not a new style, just a few more things to love.

In her heyday, she was the jewel of the Adriatic. Nowadays, some people argue that she is nothing more than a floating museum. I, however, would die proudly on the hill that, despite the crowds and the attempted Disneyfication of the city by the relentless hordes of tourists and their lanyard-wearing, flag-waving shepherds, La Serenissima (the traditional name and formal title for the Republic of Venice) does, in fact, bravely live on.

I was reminded of this on a recent trip there for the opening of the Venice Biennale. Yes, Venice still has the power to dazzle and inspire, but you do need to know where to look. As with every storied city, there is an argument that suggests the best thing to do is just get lost and peel back the layers yourself. But in a place like Venice, where, despite its small size, there are endless options and opportunities, a guide can be helpful. An Editor-in-Residence's 2026 Travel Guide to Venice

1. Where to Stay

Venice is comprised of six districts, each with its own personality and alternate version of the city to enjoy. The first thing I would say when deciding where to stay is to do away with the all-too-common concept of being "central". Venice is small, and trust me: part of the joy of being there is simply walking around, so don’t focus too much on how far away your hotel or Airbnb is from the Piazza San Marco. (Even if it's a 30-minute walk to the Doge's Palace, that 30 minutes will be magic in itself.)

Historically, my favourite area to stay in has been San Polo—home to the famed Rialto Bridge and palatial hotels like the Aman that line the Grand Canal—but on my last visit, I stayed in Cannaregio, which was fantastic. It felt much more authentically "Venetian" than some of the other areas. It is jam-packed with unassuming restaurants and bars, and in the morning, you can sit out on one of the lesser-known canals and cosplay as a local. Venice is packed with hotels, but below are three I think are truly special.

• The Gritti Palace: Ruinously expensive, but ridiculously worth it. The Gritti belongs to that pantheon of hotels that have come to mean more than just somewhere to lay your head. Staying at the Gritti, like the Chateau Marmont or Claridge’s, means status. These are hotels that represent the epitome of their city’s glamour, and to stay there is a privilege. The Gritti's rooms are all exquisitely decorated in the style of the Venetian Palazzos, and the legendary canal-side bar is arguably the greatest cocktail spot in the world.
• Orient Express Venezia at The Palazzo Donà Giovannelli: Located at the gateway to Cannaregio, the Palazzo Donà Giovannelli is a new kid on the block of the Venetian hotel scene, having only just opened its doors in April this year, but already making quite the splash. Infinitely more contemporary in its design than the Gritti, the Orient Express group has done an excellent job in breathing new life into this 15th-century palazzo.
• Hotel Cipriani: Another icon in its own right. Located on Giudecca, a serene, albeit smaller island in the Venetian Lagoon that looks back on St Mark’s Square, Hotel Cipriani is perfect for guests who want proper downtime away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Personally, I would only ever stay here in the summer, as the outdoor spaces, including the hotel pool, are the stars of the show. It also has a spa and beautiful gardens, two things that are hard to access in Venice.

2. Where to Eat

You know you are doing something right on holiday when the only question you find yourself asking is, where shall I eat? Compared to Neapolitan and Sicilian cuisines, there is a common misconception that the food in Venice is limited, possibly because the city's speciality is a bruschetta-type snack called cicchetti, which is historically associated with gondoliers. Personally, I love Venetian food. The oodles of fried offerings and lagoon-based house specialities perhaps put people off, but really, nothing beats an Italian osteria or trattoria.

• Da’Ivo: Although one of the more famous of Venice’s trattorias, it is not to be written off as "too touristy". Like all the best restaurants in Venice, it is not exactly enormous, but its more intimate setting lends itself beautifully to dinner. I would avoid the cocktails here, but the wine is excellent. If you can, arrive via the watergate.
• Antiche Carampane: Possibly my favourite spot for lunch. I absolutely love the décor, which features an incredible assortment of antique Venetian mirrors, as well as a hilarious little "outdoor" bathroom. It is completely unassuming, but the food is wonderful, as are the cocktails!
• Vini da Arturo: This is the ultimate "if you know, you know" restaurant in Venice. I have actually only ever eaten here once, as a guest of my Venetian friends, and it is truly great. The menu, although smaller than most in Venice, is packed full of delicious local specialities. The wooden panelling makes the whole thing feel incredibly cosy.

3. What to See

Venice is in itself an ode to the dreamer, to the romantic. For hundreds of years, it has been the refuge of the artist, the lover and people who shy away from reality and look to pleasure and otherworldliness for comfort and inspiration. I would argue that Venice is amongst those places that have transcended into the realm of the quasi divine. To be in Venice is to be out of this world. You can feel the years of romance, both carnal and artistic, like layers covering the city. Getting lost in Venice is one of life’s greatest pleasures. So, as far as what to see, see everything! Look up! And whatever you do, don’t blindly follow your phone map. Make sure to look over the heads of the throngs of people and absorb the magic, but if you need some touch points that are slightly off the beaten track, you can do a lot worse than the following.

• Ca’Rezzonico: Not only is the palazzo itself a thing of great beauty, but it houses a truly breathtaking array of 18th-century art and furniture.
• The Fortuny Museum: If you are a fan of sumptuous fabrics and all things interior design, the Fortuny Museum is a must. Often skipped by most, you usually have the place to yourself.
• Palazzo Mocenigo: Dangerously close to the Rialto (which, really, you should try to avoid at all costs on account of the sheer number of people who attempt to cross the bridge) but in my opinion, unmissable. The Palazzo Mocenigo is technically the Centre for the History of Textiles, Costume and Perfume, but I skipped that part and just got lost in the beauty of the palazzo itself. I particularly love the silk wallpaper and the gargantuan Moncenigo family tree.
• Zoppi Gallery: Venice is famous for its glass, and no one in the city boasts a collection like the Zoppi family, who have been dealing in glass for generations. It is currently helmed by my friend Ascanio; he and his father have amassed a treasure trove of glass spanning centuries. Pop by his store just off the Campo Santo Stefano to see what he has to offer, you will not regret it!
• Peggy Guggenheim Museum: Not only is the Peggy Guggenheim collection magnificent in itself (the pieces by Alexander Calder being my absolute favourites), but the building is unique in being the only one-story structure on the Grand Canal. The palazzo has been led by three fascinating women, including current director Karole Vail. If you would like to know more, I would highly recommend reading The Unfinished Palazzo by Judith Mackrell.
• Museo di Palazzo Grimani: Probably most famous for the Tribuna, which is the cherry-on-top room in this (yet another) magnificent palazzo, the Museo di Palazzo Grimani originally housed over 130 sculptures and is dominated by the collection's most famous piece, "The Rape of Ganymede", which is suspended in the air as if in flight.
• Chiesa dei Gesuiti: Possibly my favourite church in Venice, if not the world. It is currently under renovation, but still no less magnificent. The marble drapery surrounding the pulpits is every interior designer's dream, and the use of blues and greys almost makes the church seem aquatic, like it belonged to a long-lost underwater city frequented by sirens and sea monsters.
• Rigattieri: Sadly, now a bit of a tourist trap, but still amazing for ceramic veggies and other marvels. Definitely pop in, because who doesn’t need ceramic asparagus?

4. What to Wear

Shakespeare once said, "All the world's a stage", and nowhere is that more true than in Venice. It’s essentially one big set, so when you are there, I encourage you to look the part! To really experience Venice, you need to live it and feel part of it, and you simply cannot do that in a second-rate silhouette. Every time I go, I pack my most outrageous outfits. Think capes, satin suits, brooches, costume jewellery, large hats and of course, velvet Venetian slippers purchased from the family-run tobacconists rather than the overpriced stores. If there’s a place to dress up, it’s Venice, and in my humble opinion, it always pays to remember that it's better to be looked at than overlooked!

Perhaps the best thing about spring in the UK, is the opportunity for weekends away. Sure, one can go on a little staycation throughout the year, a European city break even, but there is truly nothing more satisfying, more relaxing and more joyous than packing a bag and driving somewhere on home soil for one of the first weekends of the year that delivers decent weather.

For me, that's what April, May and June is all about. Just before high summer hits when I want to do a big summer holiday, I like to pack the car and get away with my husband for a couple of nights and discover a new part of the UK. Over the years we've visited many areas, especially those rural or seaside towns that have that quintessential British charm and rolling English hills. Cornwall, the Cotswolds, and more recently, Whitby. Some may like the train, but I'm an avid driver. The ease and convenience is one reason, sure, but really it's the experience.

My car brand of choice always is Volvo. For this weekend to Whitby in particular, we hired the new ES90, which was equal parts delightful and divine. The thing is, working in fashion, you acquire a bit of an eye for craftsmanship, and not just with clothing. From its safety credentials to the supreme comfort and tech accessories, driving in the ES90 is not an arduous chore, but a joy.

What to Drive: Vovlo ES90

I've driven a few Volvo cars, but never a saloon, which is what the ES90 model is. Sleek, sophisticated and very stylish, it's every bit luxurious as it is comfortable and safe, which is what we've come to expect with Volvo. Driving 5 hours from London really put the fully electric car battery to the test, and I have to say I was impressed at how quickly it charged. On the superchargers, we left it for about 15-20 minutes and it gained 80% battery, incredible! It has a large 14.5 inch screen which makes using the tech very easy and practical, and the acoustics of the car (which yes, I really put to the test) will pump music loud enough that you don't need to hear yourself singing. Not only are the Bowers & Wilkins speakers loud, they're of superior quality, meaning whether you're listening to heavy guitars, base or '80s electronic, you have yourself your very own moving disco.

Where to Stay: Saltmoore

A stay at Saltmoore is not something to be had just because you happen to find yourself in the area, it's a destination worth making the journey for. Situated in North Yorkshire, just across the Moors and off the Whitby coast, it's a Michelin Key-awarded hotel with a luxury spa, stunning grounds and exceptional service. Decorated with stylish, neutral interiors that have a contemporary countryside feel, it's feels elegant without being pretentious. As well as the large bedrooms with roll-top freestanding baths, Saltmoore has some amazing facilities, including the spa, that make unwinding easy. There's really no better place to stay in the region, let alone the nearby area!

What to Experience, Eat & Drink

Being so close to Whitby town (a few miles, so easy to drive) a visit here is a must. From its arcades, rock shops and ice cream parlours, it's by all accounts your authentic British seaside town, but somewhat even more charming. There's Whitby Abbey too, a spot worth visiting if you're with a family or enjoy history. But if you're more of a literary buff, then you'll enjoy all the Dracula references (Bram Stoker famously wrote Dracula here, making it unofficial hometown of goths). Sandsend beach is simply stunning, and perfect for a walk whatever the weather. Looking for any excuse to drive our Volvo up the coastline, we also visited Robin Hood's Bay, an older charming fishing village about 15 minutes drive south.
When it comes to food, I can't recommend the restaurant at Saltmoore enough. Everything on the menu—from its exceptional British meat mains with locally sourced vegetables (some are even grown on the property itself), to the indulgent desserts (the sticky toffee pudding was the best I've ever had in my life), to even the warm sourdough bread served with olives—was 10/10. No dish was too small to not be be impressive.
But, if you want something a little more lowkey, I suggest fish and chips from Trencher's, because you can't go to the northern coast and not have fish and chips!

What to Pack

Although Saltmoore as a hotel is stylish, it's still pretty casual. Whilst you can dress up for dinner, you can also get away with jeans and a smart top. If you want to pack light, give yourself a pair of jeans and trousers, and make space for shoes: I wore trainers all day each day, then switched them for nicer mid-heels and a nice top for dinner. I also packed nice jewellery (I always do, it's the easiest way to elevate a casual outfit) and a jacket, because Whitby even in the height of summer can be breezy. I'd also recommend taking your fitness gear too, as the hotel has some excellent gym facilities.

"There’s no place like home," cried Dorothy, desperate to escape the madness of Oz and return to that ever-ephemeral concept—home. Ephemeral because, as Dorothy knew, home means more than just a house, even a flying one. Home is a feeling, a sentiment, even a person.

Home for me has always been about the objects and interiors within my four walls, especially those connected to my family, both alive and those no longer with us. I find intergenerational custodianship of family heirlooms deeply anchoring and reassuring. Their permanence and immortality give me great comfort in a world which so often seems to be spinning way too fast. That’s why, as I sank into an armchair at Hartwell House Hotel & Spa, I found myself agreeing with Dorothy; there really is no place like home.

Now, let me explain. Hartwell is not my home, and I am aware that I do not live in a hotel. I am not Richard Harris or London Tipton. However, my grandmother, Tatiana, did live at Hartwell before it was a hotel. (Her parents, my great-grandparents, sold the house in 1938.)

Many of the aforementioned treasured pieces from my own home come directly from Hartwell, so I am not completely delusional to feel a heightened connection to a space I grew up hearing so much about, and that, had things turned out differently, I might have lived in one day. I had wanted to visit for years, so when I finally managed to find some time after a particularly disastrous and highly stressful month, I packed my bags with a huge smile and a lifetime of stored-up excitement.

We watch as these characters swan idly around these beautiful locations, where the only thing they worry about is what time to take tea and whether a handsome Lord might drop by.

There is a slowness to the way of life synonymous with depictions of these homes that so many of us, with our chronically overstimulated minds, crave. As I arrived at Hartwell, after a mere hour's drive from West London to Buckinghamshire, I was greeted by a majestic swan on the lawn. It was then that I knew why I was really there. I needed a weekend to be like that bird and just swan, which Hartwell facilitated beautifully.

After a seamless check-in, we were shown to our room. Known as the King’s Room, it was named after Louis XVIII of France, who took up residence at Hartwell after fleeing during the French Revolution. As I sank into yet another glorious armchair, I felt like he and I were both looking for the same thing at Hartwell—to keep our heads. Although, admittedly, in my case, it was more figurative. After that, we were left to our highly demanding schedule of walking, high tea, spa treatments, drinks and dinner. The order in which to perform these strenuous tasks caused the only cortisol spike of the entire afternoon.

There is a luxury in not having to think too much, and Hartwell really provides the perfect backdrop for that. I often find that so much time on trips is spent deciding where to go, what to see and where to eat, and we cannot help comparing our trips to those of others. Are we eating in the right spot? Did we order the right thing? Did we see enough, do enough, enjoy ourselves enough?

All too often, I get back from a weekend away only to realise I spent the entire time making decisions and then second-guessing them. Hartwell takes that option away. Afternoon tea is served in the morning room, evening drinks in the drawing room and/or library and dinner is in the dining room. The "where to" decision is made for you, and in a society where we can be so overwhelmed with choice, there is a real luxury in having the ability to choose taken away.

The afternoon tea is truly special. (The scones were quite possibly the best I have ever had!) But what I really loved was the early-evening setup. As you and your fellow guests wait, dressed for dinner, for your table in the dining room, painted in varying shades of heavenly yellow, you can take a seat anywhere in the impressive array of drawing rooms, which are still laid out in the way they would have been in my great-grandparents' day. By that, I mean like a house, rather than a hotel. That lack of formally allocated seating means that, without stretching your imagination too far, you can sip your drink and imagine yourself as Lord or Lady of this magnificent manor!

The rooms are beautifully considered and decorated with artworks and antiques original to the house, whilst the bedrooms are incredibly comfortable and have everything you could ask for from a hotel room. In fact, many guests call ahead and ask to have the more modern conveniences, like the TV, removed before their arrival. On the other hand, the facilities in a luxury hotel that need to be modern are. The spa is top-notch, with treatments available from 111Skin, and there's also a fantastic pool in what used to be my granny’s stables! And then there are the grounds, which are an activity in themselves. Originally landscaped by Capability Brown, they maintain that Englishness that makes our gardens so special. The staff are on hand in a noninvasive but deeply helpful way.

Like all great country houses, Hartwell is its own little world. But if you fancy venturing out to explore the surrounding areas, there is a lot to do. Picturesque Waddesdon and the legendary Waddesdon Manor are a short drive away, and there are plenty of glorious scenic stop-offs and traditional pubs along the way. Personally, though, I recommend ditching any concept of an itinerary. Pack a book or two and curl up in front of one of the fireplaces, enjoy the spa, and in the evening, slip into something elegant and join your fellow guests for dinner.

English literature is full of references to this kind of "house party", where glamorous guests floated from beautiful house to beautiful house, enjoying each other's company and hospitality. Hartwell captures that essence beautifully, and you leave your stay swaddled in that oh-so rare feeling of being truly rested and relaxed. In a time when people are constantly demanding newness and brands are falling over themselves to keep up, hotels like Hartwell really stand apart. Places like this are proud to offer the opposite of newness. Staying there feels like stepping into that past so many of us so badly crave.

Stockholm in January feels like stepping into a snow globe: quiet, bright and properly cold in a way we rarely experience at home in the UK. I flew out for 48 hours with Volvo for the reveal of its newest electric model, the EX60, and whilst cars aren't usually part of my daily fashion-editor schedule, I was curious to see how it would all unfold in a city so closely tied to design. For two days, Villa Dagmar was home. It's one of those hotels that makes you feel put-together just by way of staying there, even when you're running on very little sleep and a carry-on wardrobe.

I remember unpacking and immediately thinking I should have brought more tailoring (don't I always?). Still, with limited space, I stuck to pieces I knew I'd rely on: strong outerwear, easy layers and a couple of items that could shift into evening without much effort. It ended up being one of those trips where I wore everything I packed, and I actually felt good in all of it.

I'll be honest: snow always feels a bit novel to me, so waking up to Stockholm covered in it was a highlight before I'd even had coffee. With Volvo, I spent the morning exploring the city at a slower pace, taking in the streets, which felt slightly quieter and softer under the snowfall. A long faux-fur coat became my default. I threw it over everything: knits, denim and even the most basic outfits, and it instantly made me feel like I'd tried (even when I hadn't). Underneath, it was all about practicality: a really good jumper, straight-leg jeans and boots that could handle slippery pavements without looking too heavy. I definitely underestimated how icy it would be at times, so that was a lesson learned.

Most of the day was spent wandering with no strict plan, just walking through side streets, popping into shops and, slightly randomly, trying to track down Swedish Fish (a very specific mission to set myself, but I stand by it). There's an ease to style in Stockholm that I kept noticing; nothing feels forced, but everything looks thought-out. It made me rethink how much I usually overcomplicate daily dressing.

Dinner at Villa Dagmar felt like the moment to switch things up slightly, especially as Volvo had planned the evening for us, which made it feel that bit more special. After a full day wrapped up in layers, I wanted something that felt a bit sharper, but still comfortable enough to sit in for hours (because that's exactly what we did). I went for a black trouser suit, which is one of my go-tos when I don't have the energy to think too much about an outfit. It always works. I added a pair of sheer tulle gloves; a small detail, but one which made the whole look a little more dressed-up. It's the kind of thing I don't wear enough at home but always wish I did.

Dinner itself was exactly what you want from a hotel restaurant when you're away; good enough that you don't feel the need to go anywhere else. I devoured the truffle pasta without hesitation (some decisions don't need thinking about) and then the chocolate orange mousse, which I'd been told about earlier in the day and couldn't not try. It fully lived up to expectations.

The next morning started with a very cold (thankfully short) walk to a nearby gallery space for a behind-the-scenes session with Volvo's design team. I kept things quite simple, outfit-wise: a white shirt layered over thermals (necessary) and ankle-length jeans. It was one of those outfits that doesn't look like much on paper but works when you're actually wearing it.

The session itself was surprisingly interesting from a fashion point of view; there was a lot of talk about materials, colour palettes and how Scandinavian design continues to influence everything Volvo does. It didn't feel like a stretch to draw parallels between how we think about clothes and how Volvo approaches interiors.

Then we were introduced to the EX60. It's Volvo's new all-electric mid-size SUV, designed to fit into everyday life without feeling like a compromise on style. What stood out most to me was how much thought has gone into making electric driving feel easy, something that, if I'm honest, has always felt slightly intimidating to me. The range goes up to 810 km on a single charge, and it can bank a significant amount of charge in the time it takes to stop for a coffee, which makes the idea of longer journeys feel a lot more realistic.

Inside, it's calm and considered. There's a focus on natural materials, space and details that actually make a difference; there's more legroom, clever storage and an audio system that feels genuinely immersive. The tech is there, but it doesn't dominate. The car is designed to feel intuitive, including a new AI system that responds more like a conversation than a command, which I appreciated.

What I kept thinking about was how similar the EX60 felt to my approach to getting dressed for a trip like this. This month, Who What Wear UK Contributor Harriet Davey shares her tips for a luxury trip to the Maldives.

Everyone knows the Maldives is a bucket list destination, and it was only once I saw it with my own eyes, I fully realised why. Heaven on earth, it's one of those places that actually doesn't feel real to look at, and it far exceeds any picture I've ever seen online. With the bluest sea and the whitest sand I've ever experienced, whether intentional or not, I will now compare each and every trip to this one—because yes, it really is that beautiful. So let's get into where, when and why I visited the Maldives.

While there’s actually around 1,190 islands islands in the Maldives (I had no idea about this until I started researching), roughly 200 are lived on by locals and only 100 have been made into resort destinations for tourists to visit. And with each resort taking over an entire island, you basically have to pick which one based on the type of Maldives trip you want. Which is weird to say, because before going, I only ever thought of it as a destination for those who are getting engaged, honeymooners and super relaxed couples trips. But there's definitely a more lively, active side to the Maldives as well as being perfect for girls trips and families, too.

I went in September 2025 during off-peak season, and contrary to popular belief, it didn't rain. In fact, it only rained for about 10 minutes one of the days, so you don't have to plan your trip around 'dry season'. I stayed at both Nova and Kandima (I'll get into these, next) and on two different islands, I loved them both for completely different reasons and would go back in a heart beat. Here's my guide on where to stay, eat and what to do in paradise.

1. Where To Stay

I stayed at two different resorts while in the Maldives, Nova and Kandima, and I would fully recommend both. While I hope to visit many more islands in the Maldives at some point, this is my guide to the two I had the pleasure of staying on.

Nova, South Ari Atoll

Boarding the sea plane from Malé to South Ari Atoll (the southern part of the Maldives) to go to Nova is something I'll never forget. There's around 10 seats per mini plane, your luggage is all loaded at the back where you can see it and our pilot (who you're basically sitting with) casually flew bare foot. The breathtaking views are just that, and seeing my 6' 4" boyfriend on the tiniest plane was also part of the experience that I'll never forget! As soon as we landed, the staff were there waving to us as though we were long lost friends—the most welcoming hotel experience I've ever had.

As one of the smaller, more boutique resorts, there's 51 beachfront rooms and 25 overwater villas to choose from—we were lucky enough to have a water villa with a hot tub. Being able to wake up and jump in the sea or swim up to the beach bar to grab a cocktail in the afternoon was a highlight. And with the full island being walkable in around 10 minutes, it's the most peaceful place where my crazy London heart rate instantly dropped.

Kandima, Dhaalu Atoll

Hopping on another sea plane to Kandima (it was around a 50 minute trip between these two islands), with Maldivian's being so welcoming, we got the same amazing greeting with hot scented towels and smiling faces on arrival. With two miles of white sandy beaches, Kandima is a lot bigger resort on the central-southwest side of the Maldives.

There's around 270 rooms—including water villas, beach villas and studios that can host a lot bigger groups. We got to stay in another water villa and my favourite part of each day was hopping on a bike (these were waiting by our door on arrival) and cycling down the wooden path taking in the views and making our way down to breakfast. My usual London commute will never be the same again!

2. What to Pack

Something to note befre flying is that the weight limit for the sea planes—that you'll most likely have to get once you land at Malé, the main airport in the Maldives—are less than your airline. While my main flight allowance was 23kg, the tiny planes are 20kg checked-in and 5kg hand luggage. As someone who over packs, I didn't have any more hand luggage room to spread out, so I was charged for the additional weight—something I didn't need to do as my eight pairs of heels I bought with me definitely weren't needed.

When it comes to knowing what to pack, I would suggest a mix of casual and dressy outfits. Most restaurants are buffet style so people tend to wear their day clothes, however, for the restaurants you can book, these are your opportunity to put on your best outfits. I rented some dresses from Hurr, packed far too many silly little bags and went OTT on jewellery. The thing is, though, as someone who takes every opportunity to overdress, of course I tottered down each night in the heels I packed—I had to make the most of them after getting charged to bring them, didn't I?

We spent most days in and out of the water so overpack when it comes to swimwear, make sure to bring clothes that you can cover up in on excursions (I had lots of linen shirts to make sure I didn't get burnt) and of course every angle is a picture opportunity, so don't underestimate how much you'll actually want to put on a nice day dress or co-ord to be ready for all the "can you take a picture of me on this beach?" spots.

3. Where to Eat

Nova

At Nova, there's three restaurants and two bars (Wink, where we spent many nights listening to bands and sipping cocktails) and Solis (the beach bar that I swam up to daily).

Soul Kitchen

This is the all-day restaurant along the beach front where you'll go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm often not a fan of all inclusive buffets but with an omelette bar, noodles cooked fresh and so many different options, I never got bored. Maldivian food includes a lot of tuna, coconut and spices so make sure to try the daily curries and local food.

Flames

The à la carte restaurant has to be booked and I'm so glad we tried it out, twice. The ribs and salads are delicious and it's also where couples would go to have that Insta-ready romantic Maldives beach setting candle lit dinner for two.

Mizu

Set in the middle of the Indian ocean, my first teppanyaki experience at Mizu was something I'll be telling the grandkids about. Surrounded by white tip sharks (they're friendly), the little restaurant only seats a hand full of guest so it's an intimate dining experience. We were lucky enough to have a private booking, so it was so amazing to have each dish prepared in front of us for date night. From the sushi and fresh seafood to the noodles, the food was some of the best I've ever had.

Kandima

As a much bigger resort, Kandima has 10 restaurants and bars. You'll want to head to Breeze Bar for the DJs each night, Forbidden bar to let the mixologists whip you up one of the specials and the beach club or main bar is where you'll go for drinks throughout the day.

Flavour Zest

The all-day buffet restaurant is huge. Sat near the beach, pool and the lagoon, you can head there throughout the day to have the chefs make you some fresh pasta, pancakes or stir fry or head to the poke bowl bar to create your own meal. Again, another buffet that I could never get bored of, it's also perfect for families as there's a kids' food station, too.

Azure

The Mediterranean restaurant along the beach is open for lunch and dinner and it's definitely one you can get dressed up for. With steaks, seafood and pasta, it's one of those restaurants where's there's too much to choose from.

Sea Dragon

If you like seafood with a view (you can sit outside on the rooftop overlooking the sea) then you'll want to book in at Sea Dragon to pick your freshly-caught fish from the tanks. For those who aren't a fan (hi) then I can confirm the homemade gyoza and Thai chicken curry are incredible. To start, we headed next door to Forbidden Bar where we took advantage of the small plate and cocktail pairings—wasabi cocktails are my new fave.

Smoked

Another restaurant set on the white sandy beach is Smoked. For all things grilled, this is where you'll want to book. The BBQ chicken, rib eye steak with grilled veg was a highlight and we got to experience the candlelit heart shaped dinner for two—proof you can do this without being on your honeymoon!

Aroma

I was surprised to find a café at Kandima but I love how you can pick up a coffee, cake and snacks on the way to the beach or before a trip to see the turtles. This is also where we had a one-to-one art class overlooking the lake and it was the most relaxing afternoon.

4. Where to Shop

Let's face it, if you're wanting a shopping holiday, you're not going to choose the Maldives. It feels like a crime to be in a shop with all the sun, sea and sand on offer but if you do fancy popping into get some gifts, there's souvenir shops at Nova and Kandima. I visited all of them to see the locally made homeware (I bought some checkered coasters), the swimwear and accessories and to of course pick up the fridge magnet my grandma looks forward to receiving after every trip I go on.

5. What to Do

A lot of people think the Maldives is where you go to be horizontal on the beach, and while you can of course spend each day sunbathing with minimal movement, I was surprised by how active it actually can be.

Nova

My initial reason for visiting Nova was to try out the wellness retreat hosted by yoga teacher Yasmina Cherquaoui.With sunrise and sunset yoga classes along with nutrition workshops and sound baths, I would 100% go again this year. And even if you're not on a retreat, you can book into different classes or have a massage at the spa (there's a glass bottom view to the sea). The main things to do, though, are water based. My main recommendation would be to go on the manta ray excursion. The guide called them the 'birds of the sea' and this instantly put me at ease being in the water with these giant creatures—and I can honestly say it was an experience I'll never ever forget. You can also go on turtle and dolphin watching trips, take out a clear kayak (again, highly recommend this) or simply hire a snorkel and go and find some Dory fish or sharks. Prefer to chill? Set up camp by the pool, bring a book and watch the hermit crabs walk along the beach.

Kandima

The more lively of the two resorts, this is the one to come to if you can't sit still on holiday. With the only go karting track in the Maldives, you have to try it out—and no, I didn't win, but it's the taking part that counts. There's also everything from paddle boarding, parasailing, surfing and jet skiing and again, you can also just grab a snorkel and go on your own adventure. I don't have kids, but if you do, this is the more family-friendly resort with Kandiland water park along with an arcade with escape rooms, bowling and a film screening area.

We also had a private art class at Kula with champagne, the best couples massage at the esKape spa and a yoga class at sunrise on the beach. Every single activity is memorable and my only issue with Kandima is that there's far too many fun activities to try, so I need to go back ASAP!

I'm one of those Londoners who everyone hates to see coming—I'm not quiet about my admiration for the city that I get to call home. I'll fight anyone who tries to tell me it's not the best in the world. And if you think I'm bad for it, you should meet my husband, who, despite his U.S. heritage, is a Londonphile through and through. The main difference between the two of us, however, is that I have long believed the only city in the world that can come close to rivalling London's greatness is New York.

Having been a beauty journalist for over a decade, it's not uncommon that I find myself in New York—whether it be for work or pleasure—and I'd be lying if I didn't say I feel at home when nestled amongst its concrete grids. The city's culture, penchant for local business, up-and-at-'em approach to everything and, frankly, its walkability mean that whenever I land back at Heathrow from a quick jaunt in NYC, my husband knows to expect an obligatory "Are you sure you don't want to move to New York?" text from me. And yet, despite hailing from just a few hours south of the state, at the ripe age of 33, he'd never actually stepped foot in the Big Apple. So, at the end of last year, I set out to change that.

When my husband informed me he had some admin that would be easier to do in the U.S., I, naturally, used it as an excuse to book us a six-day trip to New York and finally show him what the fuss is all about. Having visited New York as a tourist and for work on different occasions, I like to think I've seen most of what Manhattan has to offer, but the joy of New York is that it's whatever city you want it to be. If you want a trip filled with sightseeing and Broadway shows, you can fill a whole week in Midtown, no doubt, but I know what joy the rest of the city holds, too. So, I went about creating an itinerary that would fill our cultural cups and show off the things that, in my opinion, make New York the undisputed coolest city in the world.

I want to caveat two very important things about New York: it's expensive and space is scarce. Once you come to terms with these things and accept them for what they are, you'll have a much easier time. In my opinion, it's best to keep your base Downtown, and there is no better place to situate yourself than in the East Village—more specifically, The Standard East Village.

I consider myself to be in the top 5% of The Standard fans—whatever location you're staying at, you can expect excellent service without any pretence. Beyond that, you can pretty much always guarantee they will be located in exceptionally cool parts of town, that you'll have incredible food at your fingertips and that you'll be able to find a chic and lively place to grab a late-night drink on one of its floors. And The Standard East Village is no exception.

Rooms are compact and cosy, but the thoughtful design means they remain practical and never feel cramped (which is more than I can say for other NYC hotels). The floor-to-ceiling windows also guarantee you'll never miss an iconic Manhattan sunrise from your cloud-like bed. Situated on Bowery, the unofficial western border of the East Village, you're only ever a 20-minute walk max. from the best that Downtown has to offer—from brunch spots in the West Village to the boutique-lined streets of SoHo. Plus, you have some of the city's best bars and clubs right on your doorstep.

As soon as you set foot through the door of The Standard East Village, you become a part of New York life. The hotel and its cafés, restaurants and bars are a hub for locals—whether it's to grab a cup of coffee and some breakfast at Café Standard (the pancakes are not to be missed, although they taste even better from bed), meeting some friends for a late-night drink at Cuna Bar & Lounge or taking an al-fresco business meeting in the secluded garden in the warmer months.

You could spend weeks in New York and still feel as though there are things you haven't seen or done, and I've learned that firsthand. Over the years, I have learned one very important lesson: just prioritise eating. If you prioritise eating your way around the city, you'll never feel as if you have missed out.

There is no doubt that New York City offers some of the best food the world has to offer, all crammed into a relatively small space. My biggest piece of advice is to eat little and often, avoiding sit-down reservations where you can. This is the single best way to save money. (It's not uncommon for a sit-down meal for two at one of New York's coolest restaurants to set you back $400 with tip, and whilst it's a lovely thing to do, it's not something I want to be doing every night for a week.)

Breakfast

When it comes to breakfast, there are a few spots I would consider unmissable. First up, Breakfast by Salt's Cure specialises in oatmeal griddle cakes that taste better than you could possibly imagine. Do not overlook the side of house-ground sausage, either. I dream about it often.

You are also spoilt for choice when it comes to on-the-go breakfast options thanks to New York's countless artisanal bakeries. My top spots include Librae, Hani's, Rigor Hill Market and Clinton St Baking Company.

And do not, by any means, overlook the power of the great American diner—NYC is brimming with old-school haunts that deliver a truly authentic and in no way touristy experience. Visit Pearl Diner in the Financial District and thank me later.

Slices

If you don't eat pizza, New York City is simply not the place for you. Luckily, I've done a pretty extensive tour of Manhattan's pizza offerings and have named what I think are the best three pizza spots in town. Joe's (a true NYC icon), Prince Street Pizza (now a chain, but this one is the OG) and the pizza joint of the moment, L'industrie. Every single one of these places is worth a visit or two for an exceptionally good slice. I'm not a fan of deep-pan pizzas (I'm European, what can I say?!), but I have it on good authority that Mama's TOO! is as good as it looks if you're deep-pan inclined.

Katz's Deli

Yes, I'm giving Katz's Delicatessen its own section in this guide. Why? Because it's the one massively hyped NYC food establishment that deserves every bit of its praise. Yes, it's touristy (that When Harry Met Sally scene was filmed at its tables), but you'll be queuing at the meat counters alongside many locals, too. The Katz's pastrami sandwich is, indisputably, world-class. It's unmissable. My seasoned tips are as follows: if you don't want to queue on the sidewalk for over an hour, head down later in the evening (it's open until 11pm most nights, and a full 24 hours on Saturdays). It's more than enough food to fill you up for dinner. Make sure you're armed with cash. Know what you want to order before you go inside. Tip your meat cutter a dollar or two and they'll top you up with extra. You're welcome.

Tacos

Another unmissable aspect of New York cuisine is its taco offering. In fact, as someone who has never been to Mexico, I can only assume that some of the best Mexican food the world has to offer outside of the country itself hails from New York. It's hard to find a bad taco in New York, but my favourites are undoubtedly Santo Taco, whose Steak Trompo features wafer-thin strips of sirloin, topped with avocado salsa, and Los Mariscos in Chelsea Market, home to the finest fish tacos you'll ever encounter.

Dinner

I know I said that you don't have to commit to sit-down dinners when visiting New York City, but that's not to say that you won't be missing out somewhat if you avoid them completely. In fact, some of the best meals I've ever eaten happened in New York. For starters, Cuna (situated inside The Standard East Village) by Chef Maycoll Calderón delivers some of the most exceptional fine-dining-style Mexican food out there. If you're after a livelier dining experience, head to Zuma. Despite hailing from London, the New York location should be top of your list for a night of delicious food. Finally, if you're missing European cuisine, try your hardest to get a reservation at Borgo, order the focaccia for the table and thank me later.

Countless books have been written about all of the amazing things there are to do in New York City, so I'm going to keep this section short. The main thing to do is walk. NYC, and particularly Manhattan, is probably the most walkable city I've ever visited. Walk out of your hotel and go wherever your feet take you—every block will leave you feeling like you've discovered something new. You can walk the sidewalks and while away your day, hopping in and out of various shops and establishments. For the fashion girlies, the best place to shop for some of the coolest brands is no doubt SoHo, but some of the bigger department stores of Midtown (notably Saks) are also unmissable. For vintage finds and records, meander the Lower East Side, and you'll be spoilt for choice. My favourite place to visit is Yan's Antique Jewelry in Chinatown, where vintage designer watches are piled up high for your perusal.

And whilst we're on the topic of walking, you'll have noticed that my recommendations have been very Manhattan-centric (I'd need a whole other feature to talk about the rest), but don't ever brush off the idea of walking the Brooklyn Bridge. From DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights to Williamsburg and Bushwick, Brooklyn is a melting pot of creativity, culinary excellence and impeccable boutiques.

Back in Manhattan, there are two absolute non-negotiables for me: a late-night show at The Comedy Cellar for stand-up slots at what is probably the world's most famous comedy venue and, perhaps on the other end of the cultural spectrum, a visit to MoMA. As an admirer of art, I've made it my mission to frequent as many of the world's most impressive museums, and MoMA is perhaps my favourite of them all. I've been known to spend an entire day roaming its galleries and absorbing some of the world's most iconic artworks in the flesh, from Yves Klein's Blue Monochrome and Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night to impressive collections from the likes of Basquiat and Kahlo. For more fervent art lovers, don't skip the Whitney.

What to Pack

Having now travelled to New York several times, each at different points of the year, I can safely say that, unless you are travelling in the middle of the summer, it is often wise to pack for all weather conditions. Whilst one day might be clear blue skies and glorious sunshine, the next can welcome in a snowstorm and -15° climes. My best piece of advice? Layer. If, like me, on this trip, you're visiting in the winter, you're going to want to pack some sort of headwear, high-neck jumpers and rich face creams to make braving any unforeseen blizzards feel less daunting. You'll also want to pack some trainers—yes, the sidewalks can be icy, but any grit that gets laid down can be deceptively slippery before it's worked in, too.

For me, the days are all about embracing the cool-casual vibes of New York (whilst also keeping warm)—it's a bit like London in the sense that anything goes. Come evening, however, expect a different scene. Whilst even the most exclusive establishments at home wouldn't bat an eyelid if I turned up at 8pm after work in jeans and a jumper, New Yorkers like to dress up—and their more upmarket bars and restaurants expect you to, as well, so I'd always recommend packing some sort of heel.

I don't know about you, but I'd buy into just about any trend that the impeccably dressed Margot Robbie wears. Yes, she has one of the best stylists in the business, Andrew Mukamal, dressing her, but it's undoubtedly a collaboration, and she consistently proves how inherently stylish she is with her off-duty looks.

Robbie and Mukamal were surely considering comfort when it came to the travel look Robbie wore this week for a Eurostar trip from Paris to London for Wuthering Heights premieres. Yes, it's head-to-toe Chanel, but it's from the pre-fall 2026 collection, which was actually filled with cool, wearable basics. One of those basics trends was track pants. Track pants are the low-key sporty style fashion people have been reaching for en masse since 2026 began. The most forward styles are polished and elevated, just like Robbie's Chanel pair.

This month, acting fashion editor Sophie Robyn Watson shares her tips for a memorable trip to Dublin.

I've always been partial to a city break, and love nothing more than a long weekend exploring someplace new with just a carry-on in tow. Having already dipped my toe into some of the UK's coolest and most discerning hotspots over the years, including Bath, Glasgow, Oxford, Edinburgh, Manchester and Brighton, I've been keen to step a little further afield and give Ireland a go.

First on my hitlist, naturally, was Dublin. Having heard so many great things about it, from its rich Celtic heritage to its gastronomic scene, iconic pubs, scenic parks, illustrious literary history and all-round good craic, I decided to take a three-day trip to cram in as much as I could.

In the run-up to my short and sweet excursion, I tapped a few Dublin insiders for their tips, tricks and unmissable spots that most tourists tend to overlook. Corina Gaffey, fashion stylist and writer, gave me her tasteful picks on the best shopping destinations, as well as suggestions on what to pack to stylishly kit me out for my time in the city; and Anthony Remedy, hospitality consultant and entertainment specialist, opened up his little black book of restaurants, bars and nightlife spots, which you will find below. I was lucky enough to be hosted by The Fitzwilliam Hotel Dublin, so a special mention is due for my exceptional stay.

1. Where to Stay

First and foremost, my trip wouldn't have been half as good if it weren't for my stay at The Fitzwilliam Hotel Dublin. Boasting five-star credentials and having recently undergone a stunning refurbishment, the hotel sits in a prime position opposite St Stephen's Green, which is perfect for morning runs, light strolls with a coffee in hand and a breath of fresh air bang in the middle of the bustling city. Suites come equipped with four-poster beds, a terrace overlooking the green and Diptique products in the plush bathrooms. Don't scrimp on the breakfast; it's classic, delicious and will set you up for a busy day of pounding the cobbled pavements.

"Dublin has many quality hotels to suit all types of people, whether it's for business, for a city break or going to one of the many concerts the city hosts," mentions Remedy. "Other five-star hotels include The Merrion, The Dylan, The Marker, The Westbury and The Shelbourne. Cooler hotels comprise the newly opened The Hoxton, The Hendrick, The Dean and Zanzibar Locke. Many of these hotels have excellent dining options too, for instance, Glovers Alley in The Fitzwilliam Hotel, or Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud at The Merrion, both of which have Michelin stars. For something a little more casual, try Balfes at The Westbury Hotel."

2. What to Do

There is absolutely something to do for every kind of Dublin visitor, whether you're in the market for arts, culture, galleries, sightseeing or even a concert or gig. First things first: pub culture is synonymous with the Irish capital, and you can't walk 10 feet without spotting (and possibly stumbling into) a Victorian-era boozer, public house or tavern with its own distinct look and feel. The one thing that ties them all together is, of course, Guinness, the world-renowned dry stout, which seemingly fuels the city.

If you like classic pubs, take note of the following, which will all have the iconic beverage on draft: The Long Hall, The Hairy Lemon, Peter's Pub, The Stag's Head, The Dame Tavern, Davy Byrnes, The Duke, Kehoes, The Temple Bar Pub and The Quays Bar. This is by no means an exhaustive list, as there are around 700 pubs in Dublin. Yes, you read that correctly! If you want the full, immersive experience, an afternoon at the Guinness Storehouse, located at the historic St. James's Gate Brewery, will give you a real flavour of why the black stuff is at the heart of the city. Book tickets ahead to avoid any queuing woes.

If cocktails are more your thing, might I suggest the following bars, which are spot on for chic pre- or post-dinner drinks. The award-winning Bar 1661 is like a modern-day apothecary, and its drinks masterfully use classic Irish spirits such as poitín, whiskey, gin and rum. The Sackville Lounge, the sister bar to 1661, is also not to be missed, and specialises in true classics, so head there if you love an old-fashioned, a spicy margarita, a paloma, a negroni or an Irish coffee. If you want old-school 1930s-hotel-bar charm, head to The Sidecar in The Westbury hotel, with a menu stacked full of potions and tonics inspired by the city, its history and its people.

On the nightlife front, Remedy has the answers. "Pre-book The Gate and The Abbey for theatre, alongside Project. Venue-wise, for bands and DJs, check out Whelan's, The Sugar Club, Button Factory, The Grand Social, The Academy, Vicar Street and of course, The Olympia Theatre."

If you're a cinephile, Dublin has a thriving film scene and often hosts film festivals and events. "For cinema fans, make for the Irish Film Institute (you can see an actual Oscar at the entrance to the café) and The Lighthouse. Just outside the city centre is The Stella, which is a gorgeous cinema and often name-checked as one of the most beautiful in the world."

Art-wise, The National Gallery of Ireland is completely unmissable (squeeze in a visit to the Picasso exhibition before it closes!). I also love popping into Marsh's Library, a literary institution which famously opened its doors to the likes of Abraham Stoker, James Joyce and Jonathan Swift. It's a spooky treasure trove!

3. Where to Eat

Dublin is home to a thriving foodie scene, and I couldn't wait to try some of the local grub and buzziest new openings. With only a few evenings and lunch breaks at my disposal, I settled on Fish Shop for my first Friday night. Located in Smithfield, in the heart of Dublin City, it's a small, unassuming and cosy dining spot which specialises in locally caught fish, the freshest Irish seafood and thoughtful wine pairings. This is a place worth booking in advance, as it only has a handful of tables and seats at the bar, but it is totally mouth-watering.

Next up, for my Saturday evening, I nabbed a table at Floritz, a decadent, Asian-inspired restaurant in The Townhouse Hotel (another stellar five-star stay on St. Stephen's Green). It boasts a vibrant menu of yakitori dishes, bao buns, crudo, sushi, soups and small bites, complemented by a selection of full-flavoured cocktails, saké and spirits, making for the perfect pre-theatre dining experience.

I crowdsourced several places for Dublin's top Sunday lunch, and landed on The Legal Eagle, a stone's throw from the historic Four Courts. An old-fashioned boozer full of moody character, the pub has a great, classic roast selection, plus brilliant service and a drool-worthy wine list. My plate was piled high with all the trimmings,

Remedy shares his rolodex of other top dining destinations, plus a word of advice. "A pro tip: if trying a Michelin-rated restaurant, try it for lunch. It will be easier on the wallet and way less hassle getting a table." Find his best eats below.

• 777— Excellent Mexican food, great cocktails.
• Uno Mas— One of the best restaurants in the city, if not the country! From the same owners of Etto. 
• Osterio Lucio, Juniors and Paulies Pizza— All located by the Grand Canal. Three great options when staying at the Silicon Docks area. 
• Chapter One— Arguably the best restaurant in the country, two-star now and pushing for its third. The gold standard of Irish hospitality.
• Pichet— Modern French. Top class. 
• Nomo Ramen— Cheap doesn't always have to be nasty. It's good value for excellent ramen. 
• Yamamori— Another Dublin institution, this Japanese restaurant is celebrating 30 years in business. It's very reliable, and Dubliners eat there day in, day out.  
• Blas Cafe— Excellent-value, casual food in the old chocolate factory! Lunch only. 
• Glovers Alley— The most gorgeous interior with Michelin-star food. 
• Coppinger— Another Dublin classic. It closed a few years ago, but reopened last year under the same owners. 
• Pickle— Incredible Indian cuisine.

4. Where to Shop

Dublin is an extremely walkable city, and with many shopping haunts within close proximity of one another, getting in your retail-therapy fix is easy, convenient and relatively low-lift. Gaffey gave me superb insight into the city's top shops, with affordable buys, luxury investments, secondhand finds and top-tier beauty in mind.

"Drift between Drury Street, South William, Clarendon and Grafton, and you’ll hit a seamless mix of high street, indie boutiques and vintage all within minutes of each other," she begins.

"The Westbury Mall is home to some of the city’s best independent boutiques. Start with Ecru Studios, which stocks accessories and homewares from unique labels you can't find anywhere else. Head to Stable for unique Irish pieces and keepsakes, then pop into Susan Hunter, which has the best lingerie and stunning slip dresses. Beauty lovers should make time for Parfumarija, Dublin’s niche fragrance hotspot, whilst Paula Rowan is unmissable for exquisitely crafted gloves worn by everyone from Lady Gaga to Elle Fanning."

"Just off Grafton Street is New Chapter, a new addition to Dublin. [It's] a standout store that stocks a mix of Irish and international contemporary brands such as Flattered and Veronica Beard. Over on Castle Market is Costume, the chicest boutique with a stellar, polished selection of brands, including Isabel Marant, LouLou de Saison and Saloni. And, for true luxury shopping, you cannot miss Brown Thomas. The high-end department store is full of designer ready-to-wear, beauty, accessories and a constantly rotating roster of pop-ups."

"Vintage-wise, there’s A Store Is Born on Clarendon Street, which is open only on Saturdays, and is cooler for it. Loot on Drury Street, known for its impeccably curated rails (Lana Del Rey is a fan). Jenny Vander is a vintage institution, perfect for statement pieces with history. And you can’t miss Om Diva, the bubblegum-pink boutique with three floors of vintage, Irish design and quirky treasures sourced by owner Ruth on her travels."

Other favourites of mine included Industry & Co, for colourful, soft home furnishings, candles and barware. The Irish Design Shop is full of locally crafted pieces, such as pottery, socks, books and handmade gems, and Scout is brimming with Irish-made clothing, accessories, homewares and small gifts—spot-on for carry-on only! Nine Crows had an amazing selection of men's and women's retro fashion, and, lastly, I adored Lou's Lot, a tiny store nestled in the heart of George's Street Arcade, which is packed to the rafters with vintage Burberry trench coats and Gucci handbags. Divine!

5. What to Pack

In a city like Dublin, you will inevitably find yourself on foot all day, so I would recommend packing trainers that give you substantial support and comfort. I wore Autry sneakers, which are slimline, easy to pack and pair well with everything from jeans to tailored trousers and midi skirts. I'm a jeans girl through and through, so I lived in a Hush wide-leg pair over the weekend, plus my fail-safe khaki denim trousers from Dala.

"Dublin is relatively laid-back and casual," Gaffey advises. "You can do double-duty on most pieces. Pack a slip or a minimal midi dress that you can style up or down, ideal for going straight from exploring to your dinner reservation."

I packed a handful of simple tees and lightweight, cashmere knits to interchange, plus a handful of fun jewellery to add a little sparkle here and there. I loyally stuck to my trusty vintage leather bomber jacket to finish my look each day. Speaking of which, Gaffey has wise words about outerwear. "Depending on the time of year, you’ll always still need a coat, whether a light jacket, a trench coat, a funnel-neck leather jacket or a faux-fur coat for winter. Bonus points if it's rainproof (vinyl or patent is a good shout), and borrow a brolly from your hotel—chances are, you'll need it."

I managed to get everything into a carry-on Antler suitcase just fine (as well as the shopping I inevitably undertook!), and took a Dragon Diffusion shoulder bag on the flight, which doubled as my day bag.

Packing Essentials

There are two types of people in the world: those who are sun seekers, wanting endless beaches, warmth on their skin, lazy but luxurious pool days and tropical climes. Then, some desire a more intrepid way of life, not minding sub-zero temps, snowy landscapes and maybe the odd hot chocolate and cheese board at the end of a long activity-filled day.

Stick to vanilla, taupe and off-white hues in a head-to-toe fashion for a look that is equal parts cohesive and cute.

Style Notes: Moon Boots have been seriously trending, and London girl Dua Lipa has been routinely spotted wearing them in the city. 4. Shield Eyewear

Style Notes: Sunglasses trends have been getting bigger, more bug-like and more head-turning as the seasons go on. Good job they are, as this is apt for the slopes, when the sun is fierce, and the bounce back from the fresh snow is strong. Follow the cues of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Deborah Reyner Sebag, who have been reaching for oversized aviators, vintage-feel frames and polarised opticals this chilly season, as well as specialist goggles when slope-side.

5. Alpine Jumpers

Style Notes: Now this is a trend I can get behind, whether I am at home or in the mountains. Fair Isle, intarsia, argyle and patterned jumpers are fast becoming the knitwear item du jour, and hold a wealth-whispering appeal due to their hand-made feel and artisanal craftspersonship. Jet setters of today are heading to snow-capped mountain resorts, wearing their alpine knits with luxe leggings, boots and sparkling jewellery. Uber chic!

6. Patterned Sets

Style Notes: If you want to dazzle on the slopes this season, you're going to want to get behind this trend. Patterned ski sets are becoming a fashion influencer favourite, and I am seeing unusual designs and motifs come to the fore. Florals, houndstooth, celestial stars, studs, stripes and even checks are emblazoning padded jackets and salopettes alike, so you can match your look from head to toe when carving down the hillsides.

7. Leopard Print

Style Notes: Okay, another print trend for you, but this one needed its own shout-out. Animal-print, and leopard-print in particular, has been on the uptick lately, and can be found all over the spring/ summer 2026 runways. Street style connoisseurs have been adopting the design too, particularly with coats, jackets and accessories. I have now observed it prowling around the North American ski resorts, such as Aspen and Whistler, and it pairs with black and white pieces, plus 90s-style eyewear, just so perfectly. Purr!

1. The Bowery

There's perhaps no other downtown establishment as iconic in the fashion and pop-culture worlds as The Bowery. Situated at the intersection of NoHo, SoHo, the East Village, and the Lower East Side, the hotel is the backdrop to the city's most elite crowd—quite literally. Flip through the latest street-style snaps of celebrities in New York, and nine times out of ten, they'll be pictured emerging from the wrought-iron-and-glass front doors onto the street. Inside, however, the space is warm and inviting with its rich oak-lined walls, plush velvet sofas, and working fireplace, and feels steeped in an old New York atmosphere. As for drinking and dining, a certain well-dressed crowd descends on the lobby bar in the evenings like clockwork while at the ground-floor restaurant Gemma, a rustic Italian menu is always a crowd-pleaser.

2. The Manner

The Manner may be New York's most recent newcomer, but everything in my fashion editor bones says it's set to become an insider hot spot in record time. And possibly already is. Both Coach and Off-White hosted fashion week after-parties here in September and a glance at its Instagram page yields a shortlist of my most in-the-know mutuals. It's tucked away on a tree-lined block on SoHo's quieter West Side and comes from the company behind The Standard and Bunkhouse Hotels as the first in a new franchise. Milanese architect and interior designer Hannes Peer visioned the décor and every inch of the lobby, rooms, and adjoining bar and restaurant are a feast for the eyes with a luxe maximalist aesthetic that feels like what a penthouse in 1970s Milan would have looked like. It's all glossy saturated red and orange tones and art deco accents. With James Beard nominee Alex Stupak at the helm, the culinary offering includes flagship restaurant The Otter and speakeasy-style cocktail bar Sloane’s.

3. The Carlyle

It doesn't get any more classic uptown than The Carlyle . The hotel has a rich history—designed by Dorothy Draper and opened in 1930—yet being part of the Rosewood Hotel Group means the service and amenities are nothing short of top-notch. Collaborations with Clare V. and more recently, Emily Oberg's Sporty & Rich, have continued to cement it as fashion's favoured uptown haunt. Even the culinary offerings are destinations in their own right between the fine dining at Dowling's at The Carlyle and the sophisticated piano bar Bemelmans Bar.

4. Fouquets

During NYFW this past September, I found myself at Fouquet's nearly once a day. Whether it was for a jewellery preview in one of the suites or an intimate fashion show set inside the French restaurant Brasserie Fouquet's. The hotel is imbued with every bit of Parisian panache you'd expect from a French luxury hospitality brand (like the 97 rooms and suites that are outfitted with custom-designed Toile de Jouy wallpaper and a pastel colour scheme). Oh, and the spa? A haven that feels worlds away from the bustling city right outside. They use all Biologique Recherche products for the facials and I can attest that I've never been glowier than stepping out of my appointment.

5. Nine Orchard

Situated in the Lower East Side’s buzzy Dimes Square micro-neighborhood, everything about Nine Orchard just exudes downtown cool. This bank-turned-hotel underwent extensive renovations to get it in the pristine shape it's in now, and it was certainly worth it. Whenever a fashion brand hosts something here, which is often, our editors are quick to RSVP. From the ceilings to the mouldings, there is much to be admired, but the fashion crowd can't stop talking about the Swan Room which features an impressive cocktail menu and an even more impressive setting. The move is to have a couple of drinks, and then mosey on over to Corner Bar for some proper sustenance.

6. The Moxy, Williamsburg

On my recent trip to New York, I found myself crossing the Williamsburg Bridge more times than I could count. In fact, before I'd even checked in, I'd already spotted Moxy Williamsburg's giant mural from the bridge itself—a larger-than-life welcome that's become something of a neighbourhood landmark. Between the vintage shopping, independent coffee shops and some of the best restaurants in the city, Williamsburg has become my favourite neighbourhood to stay in—and Moxy Williamsburg puts you right in the heart of it. Unlike many New York hotels, it manages to feel genuinely cool without trying too hard, attracting a crowd of fashion people, creatives and stylish locals alike.

The design is exactly what you'd hope for from a Williamsburg hotel: industrial touches softened by warm wood, contemporary furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the rooms with light. Whilst the rooms are compact, they're cleverly designed and surprisingly comfortable, with many offering impressive views across Brooklyn and towards the Manhattan skyline.

What I loved most, however, was the atmosphere. The lobby buzzes from morning through to night, Mesiba—the hotel's excellent Eastern Mediterranean restaurant—is worth booking in its own right, and the rooftop draws a stylish crowd long after sunset. For anyone looking to experience New York beyond Midtown, this is exactly the kind of hotel I'd recommend.

7. Aman New York

Boasting some of the world's most sought-after properties in secluded destinations, it wasn't until just a few years ago that the Aman group opened its doors in New York, but it turns out that the solitude and privacy that the hotels are famous for isn't lost even in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. The serene retreat sits inside the iconic Crown Building, tucked just south of Central Park, and is oozing with refined elegance. It's one of just four hotels in the city to earn three coveted Michelin Keys, and the attention to detail certainly shows, from the stunning 65-foot pool to its speakeasy-style Jazz Club.

8. The Fifth Avenue Hotel

If you’re in the mood for a change from the big hotel brands that run up and down the spine of Manhattan, and want to cozy up in something more intimate, look no further than the Fifth Avenue Hotel. It's housed inside a former 19th-century mansion and is bursting with a wondrous and opulent interior design that's the ideal escape from the hustle of NoMad right outside. It's also home to award-winning and Michelin-ranked fine dining establishment Café Carmellini and a sultry library-themed cocktail spot called The Portrait Bar.

Whilst the rooms are compact, they’re thoughtfully designed, prioritising style and functionality without sacrificing comfort. What sets the Moxy apart is its social atmosphere. The hotel’s bars and communal areas attract both visitors and locals, creating a buzz that reflects the creative character of the East Village itself (and did we mention the free coffee every morning?). Trendy without trying too hard, the Moxy offers an affordable dose of downtown cool, making it one of the city’s best places to stay.

"Why would I wanna be anywhere else?", sings Lily Allen about the city of London in her 2006 hit "LDN", and she’s right. North, south, east and west, no other melting-pot city can compare when totting up the history, the arts, the food, the style, and the sport that’s jam-packed into our boroughs. Admittedly, I’m slightly biased as a born-and-bred Londoner, but as much as we locals whinge about transport delays and temperamental weather, it takes a lot to leave when you're used to having everything on your doorstep.

From cultural institutions and buzzy restaurants to multiple shopping destinations and landmark stadiums (Come on, England!), it’s so much fun playing tourist in a city like London, regardless of how near or far you’ve travelled. It’s sprawling, with so much to do, see, taste and buy, so where you’re based matters for multiple reasons.
