When considering the most fashionable films of the '90s and early, it's obvious to cite classics like Clueless, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, Legally Blonde and The Devil Wears Prada. Despite being an avid fan of these teen-y dramas, there is one movie—and frankly one Y2K style aesthetic—that I think is often slept on: Blue Crush. I grew up with boys, and not just any boys, horrible, boisterous boys, who would make me watch Godzilla, Jackass and Jurassic Park. When it came to so-called "chick flicks," the one we could all agree on watching on repeat was Blue Crush. Maybe it was Kate Bosworth as the ultimate cool girl in a bikini, maybe it's just because that film is actually so good, either way, I had no difficulty in persuading my brothers to watch it.

And it might just be time for a rewatch, because lately I've noticed the surfing style that was present in fashion in that era is definitely making a comeback. Whilst we've been living in a Y2K comeback era for some time, we've seen the return of 2000s activewear, capri pants and even multiple It bags of that time, surfcore hasn't really happened. Until now. From more obvious and actually quite timeless pieces like flip flops and shell details to more divisive trends like board shorts and the colour aquamarine, this movement is about to be a moment.

It isn't just a stylistic trend, but also a hobby, too. From London Girl's Surf Club to content creator Lindsay Holland's Marnie Rays surf retreat in Cornwall, I've noticed a cohort of influencers, editors and multi-hyphenate cool girls frequenting the waves lately. Maybe it's time to pick it up as a hobby? Or you could just watch the film and buy the clothes?

6 Y2K Surfer Fashion Trends Back In Summer 2026

1. Board Shorts

Style Notes: Board shorts are back, baby! Whether you’re a surfer or just a bystander, whether you want to go knee-length or micro, printed or plain, this shorts trend is about to be huge. I’ve spotted a few sporty styles on Free People, panelled with piping in contrasting colours, as well as others with classic hibiscus print. If you got rid of your Roxy pair that you had when you were 12, don’t worry! The Quicksilver brand have collaborated with Miaou for the ultimate surfer girl-coded collection, board shorts included.

2. Hibiscus Prints

Style Notes: Whilst spring and summer collections often bring floral prints, we’ve seen less maximalist florals on the runways in recent years, thanks to a long period ruled by minimalism and quiet luxury. But no more! Dries van Noten presented hibiscus prints for its spring/summer 2026 collection, in beautifully gaudy hues like chartreuse, orange and purple. With the rise of the “yen Z” aesthetic—a TikTok trend that celebrates the wellness movement of the early 2000s (think yoga, harem pants as well as bamboo and orchid motifs)—it was only a matter of time we started to see the return of the hibiscus flower, an integral floral print of the noughties era.

3. Aquamarine

Style Notes: Aqua has to have been one the strongest colour trends of 2026. Everywhere I look I see shades of turquoise, Tiffany Blue and teal (and let's not forget, Transformative Teal was WGSN's colour of the year). I hate to state the obvious but what is more on the nose when it comes to beachy motifs, than the literal colour of the sea? This relatively gaudy and frankly once quite divisive shade is undeniably synonymous with the Y2K era. Just think, cerulean has practically been put on the spectrum because of The Devil Wears Prada, which came out in 2006, and the brighter shades of turquoise are so mermaid-coded, and were popularised in other films of the era, like Mermaids (2003) and Aquamarine (2006).

4. Shells

Style Notes: In case you missed it, shells are everywhere in 2026. From necklaces and earrings to adorned on sandals, bikinis as well as the use of mother of pearl on belts, buttons and handbags, this boho-infused summer detail is really doing the rounds. Whilst shells aren't only associated with the surfer girl, they are—in all forms—synonymous with the beach girl vibe and a must in order to nail this style.

5. Tankinis

Style Notes: Did surfer girls in the Y2K era wear bikinis and swimsuits? You bet. But did they pioneer the tankini movement also? Oh yes! Low rise boxer short bottoms are also really on the rise too, and I have to put this down to this wave of interest in the California beach babe aesthetic prominent in this era. Featured heavily in swimwear collections from the coolest brands, like Damson Madder and the aforementioned Roxy x Miaou collaboration, the return of the tank isn't happening, it's happened and is here.

6. Flip Flops

Style Notes: It seems obvious to call this out, because really flip-flops are a timeless beachwear staple every year. But wearing them outside of beach and pool settings is a trend that's occured in recent years. Especially the classic rubber styles from Havaianas and the like. We've often put this down to Copenhagen street style, who have championed wearing basic flip flops with cotton trousers, skirts and capri pants for some years, but for the surfer girl, this is nothing new at all.

As someone who is chronically online, I have to admit that TikTok is one of my biggest sources of trend inspiration. From DIY wall-panelling hacks I’ll never attempt, to the songs that become hits overnight, the app is a never-ending stream of creativity and ideas that go straight to my Saved folder. For this reason, the app has consumed hours of my life, but what can I say? With so many trends to discover and dog videos to watch, it’s hard to look away.

The only catch is, TikTok's fashion cycle moves at warp speed. A week off the app, and you might miss an aesthetic that has flown in, gained popularity and died a supernova death all within that timeframe, so filtering out timeless capsule-wardrobe staples from microtrends can feel like a full-time job. Luckily, it actually is part of my full-time job, and on this specific research quest, I called in reinforcements. Flo Palmer, trend researcher and TikTok oracle, whose feed is filled with enviable shopping pieces and styling hacks galore, has kindly lent a helping hand in decoding what's shifting on the app fashion-wise as we roll into 2026.

And I have good news. The runways and TikTok are actually set to align, and the next 12 months will be, amongst other things, all about boho. Since Chemena Kamali re-entered French fashion house Chloé as creative director in 2023, spirited ‘70s “undoneness” has been filtering into our wardrobes. Yet, for those in the know on TikTok, Palmer forecasts something just a touch cooler: bohemia, but with an “indie-chic, grunge twist”. Harnessing the raw and slightly grungy beauty looks and styling of the ‘90s “anti-fashion” movement led by Kate Moss, as well as the early-‘00s era that gave us those iconic street-style pictures of boho queen Sienna Miller, this aesthetic feels a far cry from the clean girls and lovers of quiet luxury we’ve seen in recent times. From Napoleon jackets (a staple of Moss’s ‘90s Glastonbury wardrobe) to backwards Kangol hats, the pieces peeking through feel far more carefree, filled with personal style and playful textures rather than a “samey” polished finish.

What’s interesting is that where the most highly anticipated runways (think Chloé spring/summer 2025, which garnered millions of eagle-eyed onlookers via social media) were filled with Parisian softness and dreamy nostalgia, the TikTok fashion set is channelling something a touch edgier. Palmer foresees the return of “intense hardware detailing, leather and laces galore”, with the most tuned-in dressers pairing their “pretty, flouncy sheers with harder colours, paisley prints and tapestry florals.” In other words, this is boho with bite. Whilst layered tops and cargo-belt bags aren’t an extreme switch, they prove a desire for something more original, for styling dripping in personality rather than overarching aesthetics. In fact, the whole mood feels a touch Serena Van Der Woodsen in Gossip Girl—it’s a little dishevelled and chaotic, but undeniably cool. And of course, some of TikTok’s biggest stars inherently embody this shift. Take Romy Mars and Alix Earle: their audiences can’t get enough of their effortless edge and thrown-together realness.

For those who fall into the more pared-back camp, I offer ‘90s minimalism. Yet instead of investing in new pieces, it's the micro updates (and clever styling hacks) that will define the year. Palmer suggests “tucking your hair into your collar (in the iconic Carolyn Bessette Kennedy way), slipping your jeans into your boots, styling your scarves with jewellery or popping your collar to create that funnel-neck silhouette.” These are all cost-effective tricks which lend your look a more cohesive essence.

Meanwhile, the maximalists are cooking up something far more experimental. Rather than relying on loud colours and punchy prints, they’re going a tad more eclectic, mixing textures and fabrics. Whether it's “fur and a sheer, denim and a sheer or embellishment layered with fringe,” says Palmer, it's all about playing with materials, clashing and contrasting colours. Take fur, for example. The fauxs of today maintain their ‘80s old-money bones, but with far more personality. In 2026, we’re set to be dialling it up, making our looks messier, bolder and more expressive than ever before.

After taking a deep dive with Palmer, the TikTok fashion trends of 2026 are clear and simple. They’re not big zeitgeist shifts, but small changes that add a “now” cohesion to your look. They feel personal and allow onlookers a better understanding of who you are from how you present yourself. The 7 Biggest TikTok Fashion Trends of 2026

1. Wedge Heels

Style Notes: The eagle-eyed amongst us have been forecasting the return of the wedge heel for some time. But when Isabel Marant Beckett trainers (a style that instantly takes me back to being 12 years old and watching Beyoncé's Love on Top music video for the first time) landed at number five on The Lyst Index’s hottest products of the year, it was no surprise to us at Who What Wear UK. A silhouette I often associate with an early-2000s Disney girl, today's iteration of these Y2K heels feels a touch more demure than those that once flooded the red carpet on the feet of the golden trio (Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus).

But where has the trend been seen more recently? From the patent black-and-red peep-toes finished with white socks at Xuly Bët's s/s 26 show to Maison Margiela’s icy-white pointed-toe pair, it’s a heel trend that’s been bubbling up for a while. Iris Law has already been spotted in a black pair. These heels have a charm that offsets loose lace layers and straight-leg jeans with ease.

2. Napoleon Jackets

Style Notes: A quieter corner of the boho revival is the piratecore subtrend, defined by sweeping fringe, loose layers (splashed all over the Dior s/s 26 runway) and of course, the return of the Napoleon jacket. And yes, if this instantly conjures images of Cheryl Cole (as she was then known) during her “Fight For This Love” era, you’re absolutely not alone. With those distinctive, pronounced shoulders, braiding and fringed epaulettes that weren’t too far removed from Hugh Jackman’s wardrobe in The Greatest Showman, opting for a style with less fuss is a good way to go for anyone a little nervous of this jacket’s comeback.

The reference I prefer is the queen of indie-grunge herself, Kate Moss, during the anti-establishment era of The Libertines. Popular in a period when going against the grain was the move, it feels aptly timed that this divisive silhouette is once again back in circulation, especially amongst the TikTok fashion set. Making waves at the s/s 26 shows, Kenzo exhibited a cropped iteration offset with micro shorts, whilst it appeared billowing open at Alexander McQueen, paired with extremely low-waisted jeans and the aforementioned wedge heel.

3. Kangol Hats

Style Notes: Catapulting onto the scene with the rise of ‘80s hip-hop culture, Kangol hats have been a streetwear staple for decades. Whether perched on the head of a suave ‘90s Samuel L. Jackson or a noughties-era Eminem in his “Beautiful” music video, Kangols have been synonymous with the coolest of the cool for decades.

Now they’re back, and in the toolkit of the modern maximalist. Everyone from Ruby Lynn to Rebecca Ferraz-Wyatt (pictured above) is using this accessory to inject instant edge to the simplest outfits. It's one of those details that the beady-eyed and those in the know will understand. A quiet flex if you ask me, but a flex all the same.

4. Multi-Layered Tops

Style Notes: A ‘90s styling hack, the multi-layered tops once beloved by Rachel Green in Friends are back and officially at the forefront of fashion in 2026. Since autumn, my feed has been flooded with takes that feel inherently fresh. Another part of the indie-grunge aesthetic from some 30 years ago, this trend started on the streets, eventually transitioning to the runways (most noticeably Marc Jacobs' spring/summer 1993 grunge collection for Perry Ellis, which infamously got him fired).

Fast-forward three decades, and layered tees are having another renaissance. At Valentino, Alessandro Michele sent models down the autumn/winter 2025 runway in vibrant blue collared shirts, topped with a red-and-white graphic tee and tailored trousers. But TikTok fashion influencers are taking it a step further. Layering multiple tops over one another, they’re leaning into the more-is-more maximalism bubbling up right now.

Style Notes: As the rest of fashion leans into the soft structure and fitted silhouettes of the boho revival (skinny jeans and boot cuts, I’m looking at you!), TikTok-savvy dressers are leaning into the casual-cool essence a culotte brings. Having shed their school-uniform connotations, in 2026, these cropped wide-leg trousers are less Olivia Palermo and more Zoe Kravitz.

Style Notes: When speaking with Palmer about what would be different from this year to next, she insisted that “the details of your pieces will be what set you apart”, and a toggled jacket does just that. Whilst the Róhe Mandarin jacket has been one of the most sought-after pieces of the year, its toggle fastenings are a distinct selling point. I never would have imagined this finish, which originated in Imperial China, would have landed on a velour fabrication. Seems like there’s a toggle detail for everyone!

When considering the most iconic moments in fashion in the last 10 years, there are plenty to choose from. The Met Gala on the first Monday in May always presents itself with some of the most talked about celebrity outfits. Who understood the theme and nailed it? Who missed the mark completely (remember when Katy Perry went as a hamburger?). Met Ball aside, the red carpet at the Academy Awards, Cannes Film Festival and more movie premiers serve looks worth talking about long after the films screening ends.

Outside of Hollywood, there's the usual fashion week calendar, which can promise some major model debuts and celebrity sightings—it was just in September we saw the cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 (in character) at the Dolce & Gabbana show in Milan, can it get more iconic than that? On top of all this, I've also considered the biggest 'movements' or trends in the last 10 years. From millennial pink to logomania, to the rise of streetwear and the more recent Y2K renaissance, these trends made a huge impact not only on how we dress, but how we consume culture and, to an extent, live our lives. Seeing Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci seated front row at Dolce & Gabbana's Milan Fashion Week show sent social media into overdrive. At Who What Wear UK we take trend spotting very seriously, but often it can feel like a never ending spiral of trending looks. So, with that in mind, I put together a list of the seven "trends" gaining a fanbase in 2024, and the seven trends that they are replacing. This should be taken as entirely subjective though, and instead of advocating for a full wardrobe sweep, I recommend building a wardrobe thats 70% staples and 30% trend-led for a balance that feels both fun and functional. Style Notes: If summer makes you think of boho dresses, floppy hats and artisanal accessories, it's likely you already have plenty of crochet in your rotation. Many of us may already have a crochet cover-up or even a hand-crafted bag in our wardrobes, but Tik Tok goes one step further and suggests that hats, shorts, and even shoes could look better in crochet. If you can weave it, you can wear it, and although we're not ready to ditch our velvet Mary Janes or evening bags quite yet, there's no doubt that this warm-weather alternative is our preference during a heatwave.

You know a trend has serious credentials when it makes it's way off Tik Tok, through Instagram, onto the streets and then in turn, back onto the runway, and searches for "Jane Birkin bag charms" are through the roof with users desperate to create the muse's chaotic bag energy. Pom-poms, ribbons, tags, toys and scarves, whatever your penchant, this is the opportunity to style your bag your way to make it unique—whoever wanted to blend into the crowd?

With so much of our time spent on social media, it only makes sense that in 2024, TikTok makeup has become a genre in its own right. Indeed, as a beauty editor, when I'm looking for inspiration or information on the next big trend, TikTok is my go-to first port of call. Love it or loathe it, the trends born out of TikTok swiftly filter into the mainstream, impacting everything from the lipstick colours we gravitate towards to the new product development we see arriving in stores.

Whereas Instagram-led makeup trends of the past seemed to be all about bold, full glam (think: ultra sharp contour, blocked out eyebrows, and cut crease eyeshadow looks), TikTok makeup trends lean towards a more natural and minimal look. With that said, even the most natural-appearing makeup looks still often requiring a multi-step application process to achieve. You'll want to stock your makeup bag with products like skin tints, brow gels, freckle pens, and liquid blushers—all of which are having a moment thanks to TikTok.

If there's anything to note about TikTok, it's that trends move fast—many don't last more than a few weeks. So with that in mind, I asked TikTok content creators Quetta Lawson, Dominique Allison, and Lily Bayliss to lay out exactly what TikTok makeup trends they expect to see dominate through summer 2024 and beyond.

It's also worth noting that TikTok makeup looks tend to be much easier to follow than their old-school Instagram counterparts. "The most successful and enduring makeup trends on TikTok do well because they're simple and easy for everybody to try," says Allison. "If it doesn't take a lot of effort to do then people will replicate it." Likewise, she cites hacks that save you time, make use of everyday products, or that help you get multiple uses from one product are always more likely to go viral. Lawson agrees, adding "Makeup looks that people feel are achievable and easy to recreate at home will always so well." Indeed, far from being intimidating, a huge proportion of the makeup content on TikTok is created to simplify the process and hack your way to a more complex makeup look. "I love that I'm constantly learning new techniques even though I've been doing makeup for a while," says Allison. "The TikTok community is constantly giving me new tips and techniques."

From blended blusher looks to clever application techniques, these makeup trends will help you to stay ahead of the curve, without having to spend hours scrolling your FYP.

1. Sunkissed Summer Skin

Style Notes: "Freckly, bronzey, summer skin with peachy blush is something I'm seeing a lot of at the moment," says Lawson. In its most extreme iterations, some TikTokers have embraced this trend by creating the appearance of intensely sunburned skin, but if you're after a more wearable look, Lawson recommends utilising peach blush, freckle pens, face tans, and skin tints. To recreate this look, Bayliss explains that it's all about placement of the blush. "Instead of just your cheeks, the blush goes on your nose, under your eyes, and right up your cheekbones," she explains.

2. Clean Girl

Style Notes: The clean girl makeup trend has been around for some time now, but Lawson, Allison, and Bayliss are all in agreement that it's here to stay for quite some time. "It's a less is more approach to makeup, very skincare-focussed with no foundation, dewy skin, and slicked back hair," explains Allison. "I think clean girl makeup will always stand the test of time as it's so accessible," adds Lawson. "It's minimal, quick and easy to do, and feels light on the skin."

"I think especially after lockdown, clean girl makeup really is here to stay—it's so timeless," adds Bayliss. "I remember watching Sofia Richie's wedding makeup tutorials and it really stuck in my mind that she said 'I will like this makeup look forever'".

3. Sunset Blush

Style Notes: Allison has several videos on her TikTok feed detailing exactly how to create this trend. Essentially, it calls for application of different shades of blush to mimic the effect of the sun setting in the sky across the cheeks. "Apply pink and orange tones of blush, then add a gold highlighter to create a gradient effect," she advises.

5. Underpainting

Style Notes: Most of us apply our base makeup first and then apply blusher, contour, and concealer on top, but underpainting flips the process in reverse. "There's been a huge surge of people underpainting on TikTok, but it's a technique that's been around for years and will always be around," says Allison. "It's widely used by celebrity makeup artists and is super easy to do—it allows you to avoid a cakey finish because you end up using less foundation."

5. Full Face of Concealer

Style Notes: "TikTok loves a makeup video that's edited really cleanly and with really good lighting," says Bayliss. "The full face of concealer trend went viral for this reason and because it's so satisfying to do." The trend sees multiple shades of concealer used not only as base makeup, but in place of contour, blusher, bronzer, and eyeshadow. "The best thing about this trend is that you don't need to buy loads of new products, plus it's a great way to use up shades that don'y work for you anymore."

I'm usually very anti-trending movements on social media—to the point where I almost choose to switch off from the madness altogether. I've come to expect that they flare up and die out just as quickly, leaving behind a wake of useless accessories and poorly-chosen clothes that never get worn again. The sadness! As an editor with over 15 years of experience behind me, I know a timeless investment when I see one, and I am also very aware of what looks like a fad from fifty paces. And so, when I see a stream of eras, aesthetics or #girls flooding my feed, a strict filter gets applied, and I often use that discerning nature to ensure that Who What Wear UK only provides readers with the intel that genuinely helps improve one's wardrobe rather than confuse it.

To my surprise, I am into the latest look gaining traction on TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest: #gardengirl. Maybe it's because I've actually taken up gardening as a therapeutic hobby in the last few months. Perhaps it's down to craving nature and being in the great outdoors after what has felt like The Longest Winter Ever Known. Maybe it's because someone somewhere proclaimed floral prints were dead, and I love to go against the tide. Whatever the reason, I'm clearly not alone. Over on Pinterest searches for "garden aesthetic" are up 34 per cent month-on-month, and "farm life" has increased by 27 per ent. Meanwhile on TikTok, "garden tok" is up 30% and we can see over 180k posts related to #gardengirl on Instagram.

So, grab your wellies and start following Monty Don, because here I will walk you through the pillars of the bucolic fashion trend…

1. THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF GARDEN GIRLS

First up, we need to acknowledge that there are essentially two different garden girls: the ones who are dressing like they're going to get down and dirty with some aggressive weeding, and those who like to frolic in whimsical country gardens. Giving an excellent impression of the former is Daisy Jones and the Six star, Riley Keogh. From her exaggerated flower-pot straw hat, to her loose-fitting jeans-and-shirt, and ideal Birkenstocks are the very picture of an authentic #gardengirl. Joining her is former Who What Wear UK cover star, Amelia Windsor. She counts gardening as her favourite past time: "It makes you so happy. It’s so good for you,” Windsor told us in an exclusive interview last year. "You are outside all the time. The soil gives you amazing bacteria, gives you serotonin. It’s a way to meet different people if you do volunteer gardening. I’ve met some of the nicest people, and if it’s done sustainably, it can be a great thing for the planet. So it’s a win-win situation.”

Perhaps it's the shift in temperatures, maybe it's an overdue spring clean, but all too often I've stood in front of the mirror feeling uninspired and wishing my wardrobe was "cooler". The solution? And whilst I have never declared myself a "tomato girl", I have found myself introducing capri pants, cardigans and pretty dresses into my wardrobe after scrolling through my feed, and who can argue with dabbling in different trends as a means to avoiding styling boredom? So, to help you breathe some new life into your look in 2024, I’ve done the legwork and sifted through the seemingly never-ending list of social-media-driven microtrends to determine which ones are truly noteworthy. Forget legwarmers, DIY broccoli freckles and some of the other questionable hacks to come out of TikTok; these are the fashion "aesthetics" we're confident are going to stick around this year, and maybe even the year after, too. Style Notes: Despite being dubbed "cardigancore" on TikTok, there really isn't anything more complicated to this hashtag than a love and appreciation of the versatile knit. Buttoned to the top, elegantly draped around shoulders, worn open over tank tops—however you style a cardigan, just make sure you have at least one. This formally "dated" knit is steadily taking over the crew-neck jumper in popularity in 2024, and if Gen Z is on board too, you know it's got the trendsetter stamp of approval.

Style Notes: Beyoncé may have put country and western back on the agenda, but long before Cowboy Carter there was the Texan tuxedo, and double denim is currently the fashion girl's off-duty uniform of choice. If we've learned anything about the 2024 revival of the trend, it's that bigger is always better. Jeans are looser, jackets are baggier and shirts are sized up and left half-unbuttoned. Style Notes: Could the second knitwear entry on the list be conclusive proof that being cosy is officially cool? If you find cardigans too twee, a knitted vest is an equally comfy option that has stuck around after the height of "grandpacore". Before Madeline Argy became the beloved TikTok creator who went viral in 2022 for sharing the horrifying story of how a worm ended up in her sister's leg and went on to amass millions of followers (over seven million at last counting) for her candid, confessional-style videos, she was just your normal college student. "I always saw myself as a professor or some kind of forensics specialist, which is very rogue and completely not what I'm doing now," Argy tells me from her New York City hotel room. At the time, the West Sussex native was studying linguistics as an undergrad at University of Kent and had big plans to get her master's degree and, if all went well, eventually her PhD too. But TikTok has a funny way of changing the course of people's lives, Argy's included. 

While accepting her near-overnight rise to fame hasn't been as easy for Argy as, say, divulging her innermost thoughts on the internet, the 23-year-old has found a way of putting it all into perspective. Her rule of thumb is this: The first time she experiences something that is out of the realm of possibilities of her previous life (e.g., sitting front row at fashion week), it has to be a random fluke. The second time she does it, however, is proof it's real and that it's just another part of her life now. "I guess you start to identify with these rogue experiences a little more," she says. In the year and a half since her first viral video, Argy's new normal has consisted of jetting around the globe for events like the Super Bowl, attending glamorous fashion parties, landing major brand deals, and partaking in editorial shoots like this one. 

At the end of the day, Argy's bread and butter is rooted in simply keeping it real with her fans. Whether it's sharing how she's navigating relationships in her 20s, her ADHD diagnosis, or a hot take on the rotten girl vs. clean girl aesthetic, Argy is authentically herself whenever she picks up her phone and records. It's why so many tune in each and every day to hear what's on her mind or see what she's up to next. Argy's brand of honest, unapologetic, and wholly relatable content has captured the attention of millions on their FYPs, including Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper, who invited Argy to be a part of her newly launched Unwell Network. The production shingle was created by Cooper as a way to cater to Gen Z audiences, and Argy and fellow TikTok star Alix Earle were its first talent signings. "I guess it's how all modern romances start. We just connected over Instagram DMs," Argy tells me of how she met the popular podcaster and entrepreneur. Under Cooper's guidance, Argy launched her podcast Pretty Lonesome in October. Each week, she invites listeners to be alone… together. New episodes drop Mondays, and at 30 to 50 minutes in length, they are like extended versions of Argy's signature mile-a-minute TikTok confessionals, ranging in topics from her ins and outs for 2024 to her recent trip to Los Angeles.

The podcast follows Argy wherever she is—her London flat, hotel rooms, or, most often, inside her car. Formerly "the green machine" and now a Mercedes SUV, which she received as a gift last year, Argy's car has long been a safe space for the creator. In her early TikTok days, she was a lodger, renting a spare bedroom in a family home to save money while at university. The busy home made it difficult to film anything. "I didn't want them to overhear me speaking to myself in my room and for them to think I'm crazy," she laughs. "They had a young daughter, so I really didn't want her to think I was crazy. I would go out to my car if I ever needed to film a video or do anything." The car was the only space that was completely Argy's at the time, and she spent a lot of time in it, adding, "At one point, there was a joke that I was secretly homeless and wouldn't tell anyone because they'd never seen me in a house, which was funny and not so far from the truth."

Now 20 episodes in, Pretty Lonesome has hit its stride. They've worked out some kinks, like Argy's tendency to jump quickly from one topic to the next and slowing down how fast she speaks ("I realized it's a bit hard on the ears when you are listening for more than 30 seconds," she laughs), and have a pretty good idea of what's resonating with listeners and what's not. While Cooper is more hands-off these days, she continues to be a sounding board for Argy and her team. "I just think she's got this amazing, very clear vision for things, which is helpful," Argy says. Naturally, Argy's already starting to think about what the next chapter of Pretty Lonesome could look like. "I think the next thing that I would love to explore is guests and conversations because I think there is only so much that you can actually say when you're by yourself, and it does get a little bit benign," she tells me. Whether those guests will be well-known figures, her close friends, or a mix of both, only time will tell.

At this point, fans are tuning in for more than just Argy's daily goings-on. Whether she likes it or not, she has influence. When we put her up to the task of sharing the contents of her makeup bag, she pulls out Kosas's new BB Tinted Gel Cream, for which she is the new face. Kosas has been on rotation in Argy's routine in some form or another since she was a teen, so the partnership felt like a no-brainer for the TikToker. "It's exciting when you see that name in your inbox, and you're like, 'Oh wow, 18-year-old me would be so excited to see this,'" she says. Argy loves the hydrating tinted moisturizer for its lightweight feel and natural coverage because it doesn't hide her freckles or dark circles. The fact that it contains active skincare ingredients is another big plus. "It's so easy, and it's so quick, and it's so good for your skin that I feel it checks every possible box," she says. 

Argy wouldn't call herself a beauty guru ("Do people still say that?" she asks), but she does enjoy watching makeup tutorials like the rest of us. Amanda Steele was one of her favorite creators, and she used to love watching high school getting-ready routines on YouTube. As a homeschool student, she lived vicariously through the people. That's where she also first discovered Emma Chamberlain, who Argy admits played a big factor in her decision to get braces. "I remember there was a clip of her taking [her retainer] out in the morning, and it really, for some reason, made me want one," she chuckles. "I'm glad that I went and got one because my teeth were really bad."

Much like Chamberlain, Argy has become quite the fashion darling, too, with brands like Tory Burch, Prada, Versace, and Saint Laurent inviting her to sit front row at their shows. Though she's still partial to loungewear, she compares runway shows to creating Pinterest boards in real life, making mental notes of her favorite looks. One such outfit was an emerald-green bubble dress and structured jacket she saw at the Tory Burch S/S 24 show, which happened to be pulled for our shoot. "I was so excited when I saw it because I've been thinking about that dress every single day since I saw it on the runway, so I was excited to get to wear it. I might have to go get myself one," she says.

As our conversation starts to wind down, I ask Argy one last question: With all these life changes and career highs, have you had your "pinch me" moment yet? Her eyes light up, and she starts recalling her experience attending the Saint Laurent S/S 24 show that took place in front of a glowing Eiffel Tower. The last time she had properly seen the Eiffel Tower was with her mom when she was about 7 or 8. After a long, not-so-great day of being lost in the city, they finally came across the landmark, but by then, the excitement had worn off. Being back at that spot so many years later for an open-air fashion show, with all of the beautiful people and clothes, Argy had to stop and take it all in. "That was a very surreal moment," she tells me. "I took a picture for my mom to show her what it really looks like." 

This is no fluke—it's just Argy's life now.

Unlike dressing to meet a specific dress code, daily outfit building has to meet practical requirements as well as make us look and feel good. Should you also be the kind of person who spends Monday morning pulling apart their wardrobe to find something that will fit the bill, you know just how difficult this balance can be to achieve. After declaring "I have nothing to wear" for the umpteenth time (something I know to be untrue), I came across an outfit formula that provided a solution so simple that there is almost no thought required. Cue the TikTok sandwich rule.

Those familiar with last year's "2x2 outfit formula" will know just how much of a game-changer it was for our wardrobes, so imagine my excitement when I came across a new method that makes the concept even easier. The idea is simple but effective (believe me): just start by choosing a colour for the top and matching it on the bottom. For example, a black jacket worn with blue jeans can be balanced with black shoes, and a brown coat over a cream dress will look expensive with brown shoes, and so on. No matter how many outfit combinations I tried this with, the rule was still applicable, and once I realised just how easy it was, I kept spotting it in outfits everywhere I looked— in fact, you may even already do it without realising. 

With this five-minute wonder in mind, I put some of my favourite new-in finds together into sandwich outfits that might help you the next time you get stuck with what to wear. Happy outfit-building!

"She's '90s and 2000s Calvin Klein archive, Dolce & Gabbana, and Ralph Lauren," 22-year-old Paris-based fashion student Asia Bieuville says in a TikTok. "She's the office siren." As her video goes on, a picture of this hypothetical woman and her immediately recognisable but formerly nameless aesthetic begins to form. "She wears bold lips and bold nails, chunky jewellery that makes a statement, but simple outfits," Bieuville continues, name-dropping Bayonetta glasses, thigh-high socks, and Elsa Peretti jewellery. "She's everything we aspire to be this year," she says. And she's not wrong. Looking at the green-screened collage behind her—which features Bella Hadid in a black pencil skirt set from Tom Ford's S/S 98 collection for Gucci; Gisele Bündchen walking the runway in a turtleneck sweater, croc-print skirt, and stiletto knee-highs at Ralph Lauren's A/W 00 show; and Chanel's beloved and forever-sold-out Oiseau de Nuit nail colour—it's clear that the office-siren look is exactly the one every brand and fashion girl is striving to achieve in 2024.

"I began to see the influences of this trend in the F/W 22 shows, where we were starting to move away from 'fuzziness' and back towards something more structured," she explains over email. After spotting video after video surrounding back-to-office shopping and dressing on her TikTok feed at the start of the season, similar to the way we were once inundated with back-to-school fashion content, the trend and its now-viral name sort of just clicked in her head. "I think it's the natural evolution of a generation that has gone from [one to the other]," she says, from school to work. According to Bieuville, the trend is all about challenging feminine energy in the office, a space that's so often male-dominated. "We've often been told that women have to adapt to masculine codes to be respected and admired in the corporate world, but I think there's another, more sensual and stylish way," she explains. "The woman who represents this has ambition, likes to assume her sensuality and femininity, and doesn't care about judgment. She proves herself through her actions. She's Samantha Jones in Sex and the City: feminine, sexy, and successful." 

Though the office siren's closet is made up of primarily vintage pieces and archival runway looks by the aforementioned designers and more, Bieuville says that today's creative directors who are adopting this trend right and left and thus adapting it for the modern woman are just as qualified to fill up her wardrobe. "Miu Miu's F/W 23 collection is what lit the office-siren flame in me," she says of the librarian-chic offering designed by Miuccia Prada that debuted in February. "More recently, Gucci's Ancora collection and Peter Hawkings' debut collection for Tom Ford fit perfectly with what I imagine this woman wearing." For her, there's a clear through line from these two recent collections to Tom Ford's original designs for Gucci from the '90s and 2000s, which act as a strong foundation for this trend. But let's be clear: This aesthetic is present in plenty more collections from the past few seasons, including Ferragamo's most recent offerings by Creative Director Maximilian Davis and Anthony Vaccarello's for Saint Laurent. 

As many dos as the office-siren look has—Bone Cuffs, slinky blouses, pencil skirts, stilettos, and cherry red—it likewise has its don'ts, Bieuville shares. One common misconception when it comes to the trend is that it's vulgar, especially for an office setting. "A big 'don't' for me would be to be inappropriately dressed," she says. "The corporate side is still very much present, but [the office siren] lifts it all up with a play on materials, and in the end it's quite a subtle balance." Putting an emphasis on the word subtle, she says that ending up in anything leopard print with patent-leather stilettos is a sign you've gone way too far. "The aim is not to be noticed only for your looks, but to shine with all your qualities." Really, it's more about the woman than her closet. Though, when someone has themself fully figured out, they usually also have a good grasp on their personal style. And the office siren is 100% the type to know exactly who she is and what she wants—from her job, from her style, from her life as a whole. 1. Cherry Cola Hair

First up is cherry cola hair. I have seen so many people on TikTok dying their hair this deep red shade for the winter months, and I can totally see why. What I love about it is that it has a brown undertone, making it feel a little more subtle than a bright red hue.

If you're looking for a new hair colour this season, this is definitely the one to try.

2. French Pins

Claw clips were the hair accessory of choice last winter, but according to TikTok, this year is all about the French pin. As you can see above, this chic hair pin quickly and easily secures your hair in place, allowing you to create a wide range of styles.

3. Side Partings

Say goodbye to your middle parting, as it seems that side partings are here to stay. As someone who has parted their hair in the middle their whole life, I was reluctant to give this trend a go, but even I have to admit that it looks so sleek.

It's also great for adding volume at the roots. Simply apply a bit of mousse for even more impact.

4. Wispy Fringe

Fringes have been making a comeback this season, and according to TikTok, a wispy fringe is the way to go this winter. In fact, I've been seeing this hairstyle all over Instagram too.

If you're not quite ready to get a block fringe, a wispy fringe is a great starting point. This style has more of a feathered finish, allowing the forehead to peek through.

It seems that everyone on my FYP page is trying to achieve that bouncy blow-dry look this winter. From hot brushes to heatless curling kits, there are so many ways to get that salon-worthy finish at home.

And one way we manage to uncover the biggest fashion trends before they hit the high street is by scouring the net to find fashion's next hot topic. Instagram and Pinterest are perfect for cataloguing outfit inspiration and saving our favourite pieces, but when it comes to finding out what the next generation are wearing now, we immediately head to TikTok for some Gen Z insight, and it never disappoints. 

2022 was the year that TikTokcore took over and we were hotly debating whether we were coastal cowgirls or regencycore stans, and in 2023 (if you know your tomato girl from your mermaidcore) the internet is a hotbed for a new breed of sub-trends guaranteed to filter into our collective consciousness. So, what tips can we take from TikTok this season? In short, it's a very mixed bag.

From slacker jeans to maximalist colour palettes, TikTok is celebrating exuberant, anti-trend style over cookie-cutter uniforms—an ethos we're more than happy to introduce into our own wardrobes. Be warned though, whilst the algorithm can send plenty of fresh inspiration your way, it can also be subjective. You may be surprised to find some of your favourite styles in the "dated" pile right now, but I have a sneaking suspicion that, as with all of fashion's peaks and troughs, they'll invariably come back into favour.

Style Notes: It's been a big year for denim—quite literally—and the general consensus is that 2023 is all about turning up the volume on your favourite pair of jeans. According to TikTok, mom jeans are now on the miss list. The high-waisted, tapered leg is the antithesis of the low-slung, baggy shapes popping up everywhere from the Balenciaga runway to Bella Hadid's street style. This laidback, ultra-cool jeans style is best worn with one of summer's most standout and easiest to style trends—the humble tank top.

Style Notes: If, like me, you're the kind of person to assemble the perfect outfit and then agonise over which shoes to wear with it, TikTok has solved all of your problems. Matching your shoes to your look is officially "out", and social media's best dressed are now subscribing to the "wrong-shoe theory", pairing casual outfits with dressy heels, pretty dresses with sporty sneakers and smart tailoring with relaxed sandals. It sounds so wrong, but trust me, it actually makes perfect sense in practice.

Style Notes: Though it pains me to say it, gold is apparently, well, old. And whilst I won't be getting rid of my faithful hoops just yet, there is a convincing argument for putting silver in first place. From jewellery to ready-to-wear, silver is everywhere right now, and the sleek metallic hue manages to be easily dressed up and down in a way that gold can't quite pull off. Expect to see much more of this cool chrome finish over the next 12 months, but especially on TikTok.

Style Notes: I'm more than happy to advocate for any trend that celebrates comfort first, and if we learned anything from Kendall Jenner's recent "no pants" looks, it's that getting fully dressed is overrated. Cool girls are shelving denim hot pants and opting for men's-style boxers this summer, and this no-frills, no-iron trend is about as casual as it gets, so the next time you're wondering what to wear for weekend errands, leave your trousers at home.

Style Notes: Now, before I lose all the devoted fans of The Row, there is still a time and a place for versatile staples, but TikTok is making a case for embracing the joy in dressing up in a variety of different aesthetics all at once. Who amongst us can say we weren't a little intrigued by the coastal grandmother look? Or googled cluttercore? There's something to be said for stepping out of the box and trying a new look that shakes up our everyday wardrobes. If you'd still rather retreat to the safety of your blazer and boots, there's the old money aesthetic for a polished take on your luxe separates. There really is a tribe for everyone.

Style Notes: Once again, TikTok is encouraging us to strip off the layers and step into something a little more comfortable, and if there's one way to way to get attention this season, it's with a lingerie slip dress. The LBD has been a reliable evening option since the invention of the cocktail party, but if you're looking for something a little fresher but equally as stylish, look for midi slip dresses that you can wear with strappy heels or pretty flats.

Style Notes: Think of the bestselling bags of the last two years and you'll notice they have one thing in common. TikTok has become a haven for fashion people. Whether it's spotting a new viral item or discovering breakthrough small businesses, there's a lot to glean from this particular app. But what I'm most fascinated by is how TikTok puts names to ideas I've never been able to find the words for (like the 2x2 outfit formula), and right now, I'm here to share the recently coined "wrong-shoe theory." 

The premise is simple and certainly effective. Once you've built your outfit, you finish it with what would historically be considered the "wrong" shoe style. The idea of the wrong shoes normally comes from them being a different style to the rest of the outfit, but therein lies the beauty of it. It's that mix of hard and soft, tailored and relaxed, cutesy and edgy, structured and loose that adds depth and individuality to set these looks apart. You've probably spotted the format before but maybe not known the name for it—tailored trousers paired with sunny-day sandals, a floaty skirt and chunky boots or baggy jeans and delicate ballet flats. Now that it has a name, the whole idea becomes easier to spot and, in turn, replicate in our own wardrobes. The best thing about mixing styles through shoes is that they don't take away from the actual outfit. If you add a leather jacket to a floaty summer dress, you'll definitely add intrigue, but it also covers up the dress where shoes won't.

Style Notes: Bringing new meaning to the term "borrowed from the boys", the new blokecore look directly nods to lad culture. Retro football and rugby shirts, tracksuits and distressed denim are about to be your best accessories, and the perfect outfit for a night in the pub.

Style Notes: Although it may have started as an interiors trend, the Cluttercore movement is making it's way into our wardrobes and throwing the Marie Kondo rulebook out of the window. Maximalists will love the heady mix of print, colour and texture inspired by the chaotic interiors trend of layering up clashing items as an expression of personality and self-expression (just imagine the walls of your teenage bedroom for a better idea). While we might often champion the virtues of timeless monochromatic staples, there's a lot to be said about just how good a Cluttercore outfit will make you feel, after all, it's impossible not to feel instantly happier wearing this much colour.

Style Notes: Not a subscriber to the "more is more" mantra? Allow the Vanilla Girl aesthetic to be your palette cleanser. It might not be brand new for 2023, but its versatility is a testament to its longevity, and even when the similarly styled caramel and coffee versions come and go, tonal, cosy dressing in creams and whites always looks polished, just ask Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley. While we wore the look in winter with chunky knits and wool coats, the spring/summer update is right on time, and we can't wait to get into cream denim and tank tops as soon as the sun decides to make an appearance.

As a fashion editor, I'm used to being asked a lot of questions about what people should wear for certain events. Whether it's checking to see if an outfit meets a dress code requirement, sifting through options to wear to a special occasion or searching for the next It buy, I've got an answer. But the one outfit I've always found trickiest to advise on is the everyday uniform.

I find the concept of simple, daily outfit building trickier to style than all-out glamour, as by its nature, what we wear every day has to meet practical requirements (and we all know that killer heels might look good, but they won't last all day). So as I stood in front of my wardrobe on another Monday morning deciding between my usual comfy knit or sharp suit, I racked my brain for a solution that would make getting ready in the morning easier, something that would take the guesswork out of outfit planning and result in a look that would work 100% of the time. And thanks to a new TikTok fashion trend, I can confidently say I've actually found it. 

I stumbled across the "2x2 outfit formula" while scrolling through my feed recently, and it is a certified game changer. The concept is simple but effective: Take two pieces of "formal wear," e.g., a blazer, a pair of tailored trousers or some glossy boots, and pair them with two pieces of dressed-down casual wear, like a T-shirt, denim jacket or a jersey sweater. With me so far? It's the very definition of smart casual, and I promise you the results always make sense.

There is no denying the influence that TikTok has had on our lives, and particularly on the lens through which we consume our beauty content. According to lots of autumn nail trend videos on the app, "chocolate chrome" nails are going to be everywhere this season. Deep chocolate brown shades were big last year, but I love how the chrome finish takes this trend up a notch for 2024.

As it turns out, we owe a lot to the influence TikTok has had on our lives over the last couple of years. Like many others, I was quick to write it off as the home of dubious hacks and dance challenges, but it and its users have proven their ability to uncover hidden gems and turn unexpected pieces into overnight successes.

While TikTok can sometimes have a deeper focus on "out-there" trends, there's been a pivot to prioritising basics on the app. Button-downs are a staple that I probably haven't appreciated enough, and some TikTok users agree. Last year, I only owned one, and now I own about five—and they're my most-worn pieces. They're comfortable, versatile, and easy to wear. What more could you want in a trend?

Summer is coming, and the best way to look put-together with no effort for the season is to opt for a matching set. Whether it's a printed button-down and pants or a bright-coloured top and skirt, you need one in your arsenal. I've noticed an uptick in plissé on TikTok, and the elevated pleats seem to look good on everyone. I have invested in neutral options, but you can also take a note from Maha above and go for full-on saturated hues.

The Y2K aesthetic is going strong on the app, and I've seen a surge of videos that feature cargo trousers. (Bonus points if they're low-rise. Do you dare?)
