It feels like we’re in a never-ending heatwave here in the UK, and finding warm-weather outfits that both keep me cool and look polished has been a real challenge. Because of this, I’ve been on the hunt for some easy but elegant outfit ideas to see me through until early autumn. On his recent promo tour for sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, Josh O’Connor has been exhibiting all the signs of a personality dresser, emerging in a stream of looks that, instead of subscribing to a single mood or theme, identify as preppy one minute and debonair the next (the unifying factors are that all the looks are fabulous and often designed by Dior). I like to call this particular look "thrift-store hottie": a vintage fur-trimmed cardigan with new-season knife-point court heels. It’s a combination that you can easily translate into real life, mixing "cutesy" twinsets with lace slip skirts, stilettos and curvaceous oval sunglasses.

Style Notes: The Prada architect is a way of dressing that says, "I designed this year’s Serpentine Pavilion." The theatrical event is the crème de la crème of theatrical excellence, but considering that it’s hosted on the Côte d'Azur, the captivating looks that grace the red carpet are what really steal the spotlight. In recent years, however, the sartorial fanfare has transcended far beyond the premieres themselves, with these parades of glamour beginning from the moment celebrities land on the tarmac and extending into the lobby of famed institutions like the glamorous Hôtel Martinez.

As a fashion editor who fancies themselves somewhat of a cinephile, this intersection of sartorial and on-screen drama is something that always piques my interest. This year, though, I’d have to award the proverbial Palm D’Or for “Best Dressed” the chic, over-50s celebrities showcasing the best French fashion has to offer.

This is not to say that they’re swanning around the French Riviera wearing the latest silhouettes showcased in Paris. (Though these looks are certainly luxurious and punctuated with designer accessories, like Demi Moore’s new season Gucci and Julia Louis-Dreyfus's intrecciato leather Bottega Veneta.) Instead, these looks serve as proof that simplicity will always be a shortcut to elegance.

In the almost decade-long career I’ve had in the industry, one of the biggest lessons I’ve gleaned from those with a little more experience under their belt is that ditching superfluous trends and developing your own shorthand for sophistication will actually make you look the most stylish. Whether this be a pair of excellently tailored jeans that fit you perfectly, or a black blazer crafted from the most sumptuous materials, it will always help you feel more refined, confident and considered.

This is a style philosophy that the venerable actresses in Cannes this weekend adhered to, and one that I’m proudly adopting, too. It was while I was sat scrolling through the spring/summer '26 fashion shows that a thought suddenly came to me: where exactly were the wearabie clothes? As a fashion editor, I often look to the runways for inspiration first, and whether that might be spotting a colour, print, or silhouette that I know will be huge, I'm often drawn to the pieces that shout the loudest for the talking point alone, but it's rare that what we actually wear reflects the runway.

Take for example some of this season's most discussed fashion moments. Bottega Veneta's tufted fibreglass "fur", Prada's crinkled puffball skirts, or that Miu Miu apron, all undoubtedly beautiful and unforgettable pieces, but not ones you are unlikely to have hanging in your wardrobe.

Even as we avidly discuss red carpet style in the wake of events season, it's not what celebrities are wearing to events that truly influence our wardrobes, it's what they're wearing on the streets the morning after. Think Jennifer Lawrence, Zoe Kravitz, Emily Ratajkowski, and Katie Holmes on their coffee runs and dog walks, the celebrities who are the best dressed are the ones who are seen to be doing the least. French women may have been known for 'chic sans effort', but the West Village A-list need a whole new phrase for their approach to cool-meets-comfort.

So what exactly makes up the West Village wardrobe? In short, the opposite of 2026's biggest runway trends. In her defence, her shoes were the lust-worthy Khaite Nevadas, which have already garnered quite the celebrity fan base with Dua Lip and Kendall Jenner all repeat wearers of the style. However, the former Victoria’s Secret angel decided to lean more into the French effect by carrying a green checked Book Tote from Dior.

Of course, to the trained eye, this outfit is the modern equivalent of wearing a Breton striped top, slouchy beret hat or a wash of red lipstick, given how much this look has become the uniform from those from Belleville to Montmartre. But, it also further proves the point that when it comes to classic ensembles that demand to be replicated, French woman really do it best.

Flared jeans have been growing in popularity for the last twelve months and they show no signs of slowing down, especially as people look for a more structured effect than the razor-sharp stovepipe shape can provide. However, in the capital of the UK, all eyes were on autumn/winter 2026 as London Fashion Week was the talk of the city. If it feels like March has already been an exceptionally stylish month, you’ve probably been subconsciously influenced by the influx of runway, front row and street style images permeating the sartorial landscape.

Indeed, with fashion month in full swing, each day brings a brand new look to covet, whether it be tastemakers heading to a local trattoria post Prada’s show in Milan or grabbing a cocktail at some ritzy New York bar after seeing Khaite’s collection. Joining this canon is none other than London cool girl, Lila Moss.

Arriving in Paris after a slew of stylish events in her hometown—including Burberry’s rainy presentation on the banks of Tower Bridge and Conner Ives’s glamorous show inside Claridge's grand art deco ballroom—the nascent model joined her mother, Kate, to watch Anthony Vaccarello’s latest panoply for Saint Laurent.

However, the following day, the 23-year-old appeared to eschew every convention you’d come to expect from someone visiting the French capital. Rather than adhere to a dress code of stovepipe jeans, polished black ankle boots and a leather jacket from the likes of Isabel Marant, Lila wore an ensemble resembling something you’d spot along Marylebone High Street or King’s Road.

Ciao! With fashion turning its attention to the Italian sartorial capital for Milan Fashion Week, the birthplace of Prada and the Negroni Sbagliato has become a hotbed for impeccable street style. Within its ringed walls, local haunts like the Via Monte Napoleone and Palazzo del Senato have been transformed into runways in their own right.

I love Kylie and Timothée together, sue me! Since they don't often make public appearances together, I'm always locked into their style when they do—namely, during the latter half of the year when the couple was spotted at several New York Knicks games after the team made it to the NBA semi-finals. I'm zoning in on Jenner's outfit here, though. The youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner empire typically goes all out with her outfits, so to see her lean into a simple sporty windbreaker, wide-leg jeans, and a square watch for this specific look felt incredibly off-brand in the best way. At fashion month, we got a preview of the trends that are set to be big for spring 2026—as well as how style is unfolding on the street style scene and the key buys of the season. In Milan and Paris, we always see a sense of elevated style alongside directional items, and this season was no exception. Attendees at the S/S 26 shows set the tone for how looks will unfold in the coming months, and showcased some key ways to pull off polished, elevated style.

Nothing gets me excited for a new season like the prospect of new sneaker trends. Because full disclosure: I’m somewhat of a shoe girl. (I’m also a bag, jewellery and coat person too, but that’s a story for another time). And whilst yes, I love a range of shoes: loafers, boots, heels and flats, sneakers are the category that has me hooked.

Why? Because they’re comfortable, they achieve that effortless casual-cool styling with minimal effort, and, more often than not, the most hyped styles are reasonably affordable. Even the most trending pairs from big players like New Balance, Nike and adidas tend to come in under £200, many half that. What's more, the high street's offering has never been better. For instance, the very sleek and extremely chic COS minimal suede trainers have been seen on some of our favourite style insiders, worn in every shade from vibrant red to more subtle taupe and chocolate brown. I personally have my eye on the pony-hair pair.

It goes without saying that luxury trainers are really having a moment, though, with Loewe, Miu Miu and Dries van Noten’s hero styles earning a place on many of our wish lists and wardrobes. Adding to this, certain more controversial luxury trainers are currently making a comeback. Style Notes: After years of chunky trainers by Reebok followed by 'dadcore' sneakers from the likes of Asics, we're finally in a sleeker silhouette era. Onitsuka Tiger, Speedcats and New Balance are dominating this trend right now. I personally love a fabric material over leather or suede for this, extra points if it's shiny like Marianne Smyth's pictured here, just be sure not to wear these in the rain.

2. Hybrid Styles

Style notes: Is it a sneaker, is it a ballet flat? Is it a trainer or is it a wedge? It's both! That's right—hybrid trainers are having a moment, which is great for those, like me, who are thoroughly indecisive. Summer's stand-out 'sneakerina' style isn't going anywhere this winter, and as mentioned, Isabel Marant's controversial wedge styles are also back.

3. Practically Perfect

Style Notes: Finally, a sneaker trend that will make your mum proud! You heard it here first—being practical couldn't be cooler right now. The gorpcore trend is hardly a new one; it has celebrated brands like Salomon for years, but as we approach winter and walking will only include muddier terrains, details that allude to hiking, trekking and the great outdoors couldn't be more relevant. Case in point: these North Face hiking boot-meets-sneakers.

4. Gum Soles

Style Notes: Looking for a gum sole on a trainer (as a specific preference) is not something I thought I'd find myself doing. I usually like the sleekness of one colour—be it black or white—from top to bottom on my trainers. But, I've noticed a thin gum sole, which tends to peek above at the front and back, starting to emerge as a microtrend. The Samba kicked it off, but now it's seen across different styles and brands, often on more slender shapes.

5. Animal Print

Style Notes: Snakeskin, cow print, leopard or zebra: it doesn't matter which animal print takes your fancy, they're all trending this winter. We can't seem to get enough of brown at the moment, and I think a little statement print on your toes is the best way to add some personality to a head-to-toe monotone look. Because, reminder: animal print is a neutral, after all.

6. Designer Collabs

Style Notes: It will come as a shock to absolutely no one that a sneaker trend going nowhere is designer collaborations. In the last couple of weeks alone (days, even), we've seen Nike join forces with both Jacquemus and KNWLS, and then there are coveted collabs like Miu Miu X New Balance, Asics X Cecilie Bahnsen and Salomon X MM6 Maison Margiela. Pick your luxury-collab fighter (or two, or three), and get wearing them!

7. Superstars

Style Notes: If you came to this story just to find out what I predict will be the new Samba, congratulations—you got here! I have it on good authority (from an insider friend at Adidas) that the next trainer trend to take off for the brand will be the Superstar. Available in both black and white (as well as a few other colourways), and seen on every Gen Z influencer, editor and stylist in the past few weeks, I predict this is the shoe you're likely to see the coolest fashion people wearing this winter.

There’s an innate elegance that seems to flow through every Parisienne’s wardrobe. So, when Paris Fashion Week rolls around, I pay particular attention to the trends emerging from the French capital’s streets, knowing they’ll be among the most refined and directional of the season.

This time, I wasn’t disappointed. That Parisian polish was out in full force, with showgoers debuting a fresh wave of styling ideas and silhouettes that capture the mood of the moment. From styling updates to new-season tailoring, these are the five street style trends the French are embracing right now—and that I’ll be copying immediately.

Now, during the early part of Paris Fashion Week, legendary supermodel Kate Moss has taken it upon herself to prove exactly why the French capital is the perfect place for stylish dressers to shine. No stranger to making her well-adored wardrobe items the centrepiece of a memorable outfit—including the Levi’s 501s she wore on repeat whilst off-duty in the ‘90s, the Wellington boots that made regular appearances at Glastonbury during the early 2000s or even her vintage Hermès bag that she recently took to the beach in Formentera, Moss’s latest appearance relied upon a very simple formula.

However, it was the way she leaned into the effortless sensuality and refined elegance synonymous with the city that truly made me stop in our tracks.

Of course, I'm referring to the way the 51-year-old transformed a humble LBD into something far more sophisticated by teaming it with a pair of black tights and chic, round-toe heels. She stepped out in this look whilst running errands in the 1st arrondissement: checking into The Ritz in Place Vendôme, attending a fitting at Tom Ford’s atelier and enjoying the sights after attending Saint Laurent’s spring/summer 2026 collection on Monday evening. On the latter, it appears she took styling cues from Anthony Vaccarello’s latest collection for the house, as the Belgian designer also presented a slew of vampy looks paired with lighter stockings and humble pumps.

And whilst a luxe monochromatic outfit like this seems in keeping with what one would pack to wear in Paris, what surprised me the most was the way she switched out her higher-denier tights for a pair that was on the sheer side. In the past, I’ve almost omitted wearing anything under a 40, erroneously thinking they wouldn’t make an impact. But what Kate has proven here is that there’s a subtle sophistication in exercising restraint and not going too bold with your hoisery this season.

Those who have found themselves asking, "Whatever happened to glamour?" will be happy to hear me salute Kate in her act of dressing suitably for the occasion—and the location. With party season and colder weather approaching, it’s also never felt more relevant to lean into the fun of dressing up for the hell of it.
