Princess Catherine's classic style is always refreshing to see given how quickly the trend cycle moves in fashion. Much of what she wears are styles she was wearing ten years ago. Sure, the royal life doesn't allow for a ton of experimentation when it comes to fashion, but it seems as though she's quite comfortable in what she wears and would opt for a classic aesthetic anyway. This aesthetic was on full display while out and about carrying out her royal duties in London.

For the casual appearance, Kate Middleton opted for a pair of straight-leg jeans with a striped sweater and a barn jacket. And on her feet was her go-to boot style for many years: Chelsea boots (by Reiss, specifically). I myself have covered Middleton's affinity for Chelsea boots on repeat occasions. They're not the most trend-forward of boot styles, but that's why they're great. From my own wardrobe experience, Chelsea boots are one of the shoe styles in my wardrobe that I never get rid of (until they fall apart). They look great with every type of jean—trust me, I've tried them all—and there happen to be some very chic iterations on the market this season. So, let's go shopping.

There aren't a lot of clothing items that if you put them on Meghan Markle, won't look incredible. Really, I'm not sure if there are any at all. But, as someone who's studied her style from the Suits days until now, I can tell you that there are some pieces that stand out amongst the rest as being especially chic and memorable. One such example just made its debut this week, and already, I'm convinced that it'll go down as the centrepiece of one of the humanitarian's best outfits yet. 

On Tuesday, Markle, along with Prince Harry, spoke on a panel in New York City called the Parents’ Summit: Mental Wellness in the Digital Age, which The Archewell Foundation, the couple's charitable organisation, put on with Project Healthy Minds for World Mental Health Day. For the speaking engagement, Markle chose one of the minimalist shades that she wears best, ivory, in the form of an off-the-shoulder Altuzarra blazer that she then paired with matching tailored trousers from the NYC-based brand and her go-to Aquazzura pumps. 

Across fashion, off-the-shoulder silhouettes have been gaining momentum as the chic older sister to a basic tee, tank, or in this case, blazer. It adds a touch of sexiness while also maintaining an undeniable air of elegance and sophistication. So, it's really no wonder why I and everyone else I've shown the below photo to have been equally obsessed with Markle's look for the event. While Prince William is across the pond in New York City this week, Princess Kate, along with her fresh new haircut, is holding down the fort in London. Attending an event supporting the Streets of Growth charity, Kate Middleton wore a camel-coloured trouser suit by Roland Mouret. Although she still wears her go-to skinny jeans, the Princess of Wales has lately been favouring wide-leg trousers instead. And who could blame her? The style is incredibly on-trend and looks exceptionally chic.

Other celebrity fans of wide-leg trousers include Margot Robbie, Lucy Hale, and Rihanna. I particularly love the colour Middleton chose. When I was 19, I worked in a small clothing boutique that sold a surprisingly impressive designer assortment for a college town such as mine. On the ready-to-wear side, its racks were lined with Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Lauren Manoogian, and Samuji. And for denim, we exclusively sold Frame Denim, the brand every LA and NYC fashion girl was wearing at the time. I adored every pair from the brand and too often spent my entire paycheque on jeans. 

One pair, in particular, that I bought and subsequently wore roughly three times a week every summer for years, was Frame’s Le Skinny de Jeanne style in white. When I graduated and moved to New York, I left a ton of clothing items behind, donating most of them and selling the rest. Those jeans were one of the pieces I parted ways with, an act I’m now very much regretting after spotting the exact same pair on none other than Meghan Markle. 

Markle was seen exiting an office in Montecito, California wearing arguably the chicest, most luxurious outfit I've ever seen, consisting of a camel-colored robe coat, a cream sweater, an Hermès shawl, Chanel slingbacks, and an oversize, all-white Goyard tote. But even with all of that draped on her, the fashion item that my eyes were immediately drawn to were her jeans, the same exact pair of white Frame skinnies that I owned in college. Envious, I immediately started searching the internet for a pair to replace the ones I got rid of five years ago.

It's pretty much guaranteed that whatever Meghan Markle wears will sell out. Well, that is if it wasn't custom made or impossible to get your hands on (which has happened quite a bit given the whole royal thing). Even then, though, I'd be willing to bet that at least one person got pretty close to sourcing the same thing. Luckily, her latest outfit isn't quite so tricky to recreate, one, because it costs under £250, and two, because it's still very much in stock at Moda Operandi. 

Ahead of her 42nd birthday, Markle was spotted on a dinner date with Prince Harry at Tre Lune in Montecito, California wearing a black-and-cream striped tube dress that's both reasonably affordable and majorly chic. The dress, called the Theo, was designed by the Australian label Posse, which has been allover the fashion news of late ever since Sofia Richie Grainge wore a linen two-piece set from the brand during her wedding weekend in the South of France.

After the busy Coronation weekend, it was right back to work for members of the royal family, but with a far more casual affair for Kate Middleton and Prince William. The coronation outfits of Catherine, Princess of Wales, have been a sight to behold across the entirety of the weekend of celebrations. From the striking cobalt Self-Portrait dress she wore to welcome world leaders to a pre-coronation reception held at Buckingham Palace on Friday evening to her stunning ivory Alexander McQueen gown and ceremonial robe she wore to the coronation itself on Saturday, Kate Middleton’s ensembles have been worthy of the history books they’ll no doubt grace the pages of. And tonight, as she, her husband, Prince William, their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and other members of the Royal Family join members of the public for a very special coronation concert held on the grounds of Windsor Castle, Kate has wowed us with her attire once again. This time, she was wearing the key colour trend of the season.

For the evening, Princess Kate opted for a sleek, tailored suit in the daring colour that ruled the runways this season; saffron red. If it looks familiar to you, that’s because it is; Kate wore this Alexander McQueen set—consisting of an asymmetric hem jacket, wide-leg trousers, and a camisole in a co-ordinating hue—to launch her Shaping Us campaign in January 2023. Kate is known for re-wearing even her most iconic looks, so it should come as no surprise that she should turn to the reliable pieces once more.

It should come as no surprise that the most regal fashion trend returned for the coronation of King Charles III: the cape. As we gazed upon the guests filing into Westminster Abbey, it was clear that a selection of the fashionable attendees took the chance to embrace the style, from cape coats to cape dresses, and all fulfilled their task as standouts.

With the pageantry of the day, capes, cloaks and robes were dotted throughout the service, making the cape looks of the guests a fitting mirror of the royal proceedings. Princess Kate took the chance to wear a floor-length blue cape, whilst daughter Charlotte wore her own white version. As Charles exited the Abbey, now crowned King, it was Penny Mordaunt dressed in a teal blue cape dress that led the procession out. Today the world’s gaze turns to London for the coronation of King Charles III and, whether you’re a royalist or not, May 6th 2023 will be a noteworthy date for the history books. It makes sense, then, that those in attendance would want to show up in serious style, what with all the photo documentation there will be of the event. Catherine, Princess of Wales? She’s no exception.

Last night Princess Kate, along with other senior members of the royal family, hosted a gathering for all of the world leaders who have flown in to attend the coronation, and if her outfit—a cobalt blue Self-Portrait dress with an elegant draped neckline—was anything to go by, we knew we'd be in for a treat. Naturally, Kate looked radiant as she stepped out of her car and onto the cobbles outside Westminster Abbey.

For the coronation, Kate looked every inch a royal princess. In her traditional regalia, which consisted of a floor-length blue cape, making it her signature colour for the coronation, underneath we can see but glimpses of what appears to be a sweeping white gown. In her hair she wears a stunning headpiece which is offset with stunning, pearl-drop earrings. Perfectly fitting for such a moment, wouldn't you agree?

The Princess of Wales oscillates between heels and trainers depending on the type of event she's attending. It's rare to see her in flats, but that's exactly what she wore yesterday for a visit to The Baby Bank charity in Windsor, which provides clothing and other essentials to families in need. Kate Middleton was on hand to learn about the charity's work, meet with employees, and bring attention to the worthy cause. 

For the event, she wore a pared-back outfit consisting of pieces from a few of our favourite elevated high-street brands: A Reiss blazer, L.K. Bennett slim trousers, Boden flats (which are currently sold out, but we're hoping for a restock), and Sézane earrings. And as always, Middleton's outfit nails the balance between polished and approachable. There's nothing flashy about her look thanks to the simple silhouettes and neural hues, making it truly the epitome of quiet luxury.

If, even after spotting peplum silhouettes in nearly every autumn/winter 2023 collection throughout fashion month, you're still not convinced that they're worth giving a second chance to, the news I'm about to share with you is bound to put you over the edge. After all, I've yet to come across a fashion item worn by Kate Middleton that didn't go absolutely viral, and no matter how controversial peplum is, the hatred around it doesn't come close to balancing out the influential abilities of the Princess of Wales. 

If you haven't already guessed, Middleton was spotted earlier today wearing a peplum Erdem blazer with a matching printed midi skirt at the 2023 Commonwealth Day Service held at Westminster Abbey in London, giving the once "out" trend a supersized push toward the "in" pile. With the two-piece navy-and-blue set, she wore matching Gianvito Rossi pumps, an Emmy London clutch, and a pair of double-drop diamond-and-sapphire earrings that were once owned by Princess Diana. 

Though her entire look was chic and glamorous—like most she's worn—I can't help but continue to go back to her peplum top and, more so, what it means for the trend's fate that she chose it for the occasion. With her royal stamp of approval, peplum's comeback is going to be bigger and better than anyone could've predicted.

Kate Middleton has a knack for finding incredible pieces, be it a Zara blazer or an Alexander McQueen coat dress, and styling them in new ways again and again. But of all the items she wears on repeat, it's her coat collection that I find especially impressive. 

The Princess of Wales's latest outerwear sighting arrived earlier this week when she visited a nursery in Luton, as part of her work helping with children's development. For the occasion, she wore an orange turtleneck-and-skirt set from Gabriela Hearst, topped with a tailored camel coat from Zara's luxury big-sister brand, Massimo Dutti. According to the blog Kate Middleton Style, she's worn it a total of five times in the last three years. Middleton polished off the classic look by adding chocolate-brown suede boots from Gianvito Rossi, a matching Stuart Weitzman clutch, and a croc-effect belt from Polo Ralph Lauren. Though altogether stunning, her Massimo Dutti coat was the clear winner of the ensemble.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are on the move. Last week they left Kensington Palace and headed to Liverpool, where they met with healthcare workers at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Kate Middleton wore a polished outfit consisting of a checked Holland Cooper coat, navy Cefinn dress, and coordinating Gianvito Rossi shoes, but I immediately zeroed in on her pretty bag.

It’s not every day you interview a member of the royal family, but Lady Amelia Windsor isn’t your run-of-the-mill royal, as I quickly find out when she joins me over Zoom from her family home in Cambridge.

Windsor enters the chat with her hair pulled back in a carefree fashion, wearing a simple oversized grey knit taken from her treasured sweater drawer. Windsor calls her jumpers "old friends” ("At different times, they’ve come to your rescue”) and painstakingly protects her pals from the threat of moths by putting orange peel in her drawers, a tip she took from a market-stall trader on Portobello Road. 

Many of us have come to assume that royal protocol protects its members against being too, well, human, but everyone who encounters Windsor instantly discovers an absolute darling. The 27-year-old is affable, ultra polite and clearly smart. She is engaged with the world and passionate about the environment, and she lists gardening as her favourite pastime. For someone who has been working in the rather conspicuous and loud realm of fashion for some time now, she is surprisingly shy, and it is endearing. During our chat, Windsor apologises continuously for the royally bad wi-fi as well as her answers and the fact that she likes to take time to think about them.

Well, let’s start at the very beginning with what’s been on her agenda today. "Jury duty,” Windsor replies, once again delivering something unexpected. "On my lunch break, I wandered around the streets of Cambridge. I’ve never lived anywhere else [with my family], but I walked down streets I’ve never been on, which was quite nice.” As someone who spent much of their teenage years in Cambridge frequenting the small pool of nightclubs on rotation, I start listing off the after-dark highlights…

"I’ve never actually gone out in Cambridge,” she confesses, much to my clear horror at the absence of this rite of passage. "It’s really sad because I walk around Cambridge and see people my age and think, ‘Oh, I wish!’ I just don’t really have any friends here sadly. I look at them, [and] I’m like, ‘Is it weird to go up to you and ask if we can be friends?’” By this point, we are precisely one minute and 38 seconds into the interview, and we make (what I imagine are faux) plans to go out out. "Let’s go!” she laughs. 

Windsor, as an extended member of the royal family, is 42nd in line to the throne through her paternal grandfather, the Duke of Kent, and despite her status and title, she prefers to be called Mel. "I am very happy for anyone to call me Mel,” she says. "It’s a nice way of breaking down [barriers] when you meet someone. … You’re automatically just on a nice, friendly basis with everyone you meet. I’m not really someone who thinks that only my favourite people can call me my [shortened] name.”

Having previously been dubbed by the UK media as the "royal family’s first influencer” thanks to her fashion sense and presence in the industry, Windsor has carved out a modelling career that has seen her grace the covers of Tatler, Vogue Japan and now Who What Wear; take the lead in campaigns for the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Illamasqua; and become a front-row attendee at shows for brands such as Dior. As Windsor has been a model with Storm for six years—an agency that also represents Cindy Bruna, Behati Prinsloo and Alek Wek—I wonder whether her experience has been a confidence boost. "[Storm has] given me a lot of confidence, and they’ve always been there. So much guidance, patience, and I’ve learned a lot,” she tells me.

When I ask how modelling has shaped her relationship with beauty and her own self-worth, her demeanour shifts a bit. It’s obvious Windsor becomes nervous and slightly reluctant when more personal questions arise. It’s understandable, given the media’s unquenchable thirst for any information about the world’s most famous family. "Okay,” she says, taking a breath and preparing herself to go back in. "It’s important to just take a step back, just realise what actually matters and not be too self-critical of what your appearance looks like because that’s not what matters at the end of the day. Everyone is beautiful in their own unique way.”

"At first when I started [modelling], it could be a bit nerve-racking,” she adds. "You do feel a bit nervous and lack the self-confidence to really feel like you can be yourself. With time, it is amazing because you find yourself in situations where you might not know anyone, but that’s such good life training because it just shows you to just go for it. Just as long as you’re kind, friendly and open to people, then you're not doing anything wrong. People can always not accept you, but that’s fine as long as you’re a good person.” She concludes with, "I feel like I’m not totally making sense,” questioning what was a perfectly constructed answer.

Windsor and I revel in the fact that being pushed out of your comfort zone is often a rewarding experience. "Yeah! It’s really good for you, and it allows you to learn who you are as a person as well, meeting new people,” she says. "That’s what I love the most about [modelling] is that you meet people you might never have the luck and the privilege to meet. It’s such a joy listening to lots of different stories, and that’s the best part—the people aspect of it all. That’s what we’re meant to do as humans. We’re meant to communicate with one another.”

It’s that work ethic and enthusiasm for the industry that has led Windsor to her next exciting project: a collaboration with the iconic luxury footwear brand Pretty Ballerinas that arrived this month. A year or so in the making, Amelia Windsor x Pretty Ballerinas is a super-cute range of summer shoes inspired by a childhood holiday to Menorca, where the Spanish footwear brand has been creating its wares since 1918. Windsor, by all accounts, has been heavily involved in the line from start to finish, visiting the family-run factory and its 60 artisans in Menorca and pushing for the collection to be as sustainable as possible, which has resulted in the use of organic cotton and recycled soles.

Featuring naïve illustrations on dolly-ish silhouettes, the heart-emblazoned ballet flats, fun slides and lip-printed low-heel pumps achieve what Windsor truly wanted from the project, which was to "give people joy, happiness and a sense of being uplifted.” I was intrigued to understand how the prettiness of these pumps matched up to Windsor, a self-proclaimed bit of a tomboy that you’d normally find in baggy jeans and T-shirts. She explains that the range highlights that she’s "probably a bit silly and [doesn’t] really have a style.” "Every day, I wear a different style. It’s quite nice being able to just wake up in the morning and see what character you feel like being that day. Depending on what you need, your clothes can give you different strengths,” she adds. 

Whilst Windsor is expressing herself through design, she is still sketching out her true path. "I’ve just been going with the flow and seeing where life takes me and just being constantly grateful for the wonderful opportunities and the people I’ve met along the way,” she says. "I don’t think I’ve fully figured out who I am. We’re constantly evolving. We’re never one thing.”

What she does know, however, is that the next big plan involves getting her hands dirty. "What I’m reading about at the moment is gardening. I absolutely love it. I don’t do it enough myself—I have done some volunteer gardening, but I’m a fraud of a gardener because I don’t do it enough. I just love reading about it and try to do it as much as I can,” she says.

Slightly surprised by her admission, I wonder, why gardening? "It makes you so happy. It’s so good for you,” Windsor says. "You are outside all the time. The soil gives you amazing bacteria, gives you serotonin. It’s a way to meet different people if you do volunteer gardening. I’ve met some of the nicest people, and if it’s done sustainably, it can be a great thing for the planet. So it’s a win-win situation.” In fact, it turns out that this grounding hobby is a metaphor for her own life. "It’s just so therapeutic and peaceful, and it’s also just a way of accepting that you just go with the seasons. If something doesn’t work in your garden, it’s like, ‘It’s all right. I’ll try again next time.’ And realising it’s just a part of nature that things might not grow or something might eat them, you just go with it and just carry on. It teaches you to go with the flow,” she says. 

I look out of my window at my dying plants, and I turn to Windsor as my new gardening guru—my millennial Alan Titchmarsh, if you will—and ask her if talking to the plants might resurrect them. "I actually do it with my houseplants a little bit,” she admits, letting me know they are called Geraldine and Esmerelda. 

As our chat wraps up, our previous plan of a night out turns to Windsor volunteering to come over to help me with my plants. Always expect the unexpected from this lady.

Kate Middleton went to plenty of official state dinners at Buckingham Palace as the Duchess of Cambridge, but yesterday marked her first as Princess of Wales. And she certainly rose to the occasion.

This particular banquet was for President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, and Middleton was a sight to behold in a white, cape-style dress by Jenny Packham (a favourite designer of hers for formal occasions), complete with pretty embellishment on the shoulders and neckline. The eye-catching sparkle didn't stop there, as Middleton, who is said to have received much of Queen Elizabeth's jewellery upon her passing, paired the dress with the pearl-adorned Queen Mary's Lover's Knot tiara and dangling pearl earrings, both of which once belonged to Princess Diana, as well as a multi-strand pearl bracelet from Queen Elizabeth's jewellery box.

Catherine, the Princess of Wales has once again found a high-street gem. In recent years, she has become known for wearing expensive-looking pieces from the high street, and her appearance yesterday was no exception. Whilst visiting a children's centre in Middlesex on Wednesday, Kate selected a khaki knitted dress from much-loved high-street brand Mango, and it's only £36. Though, I think it looks significantly more expensive than that. 

True to her elegant and put-together style, Kate has a way of spotting premium-looking styles and is always on-trend for the season. Right now, we're at the crossroads between autumn and winter, where cosy styles like knit dresses are taking centre stage. The best part of this knit-midi ensemble is that it can be paired with any type of boots around. Classic ankle boots are a solid option, while knee-high styles add a fashion-forward edge. I personally love how she made it look all the more premium with the addition of a classic leather belt overtop. 

As often happens when Kate steps out in an affordable piece, this Mango dress is already flying off the shelves and shows as sold out in most sizes. But don't fret. The brand has a great track record for restocking quick-selling items, and surely, something worn by a princess is on its immediate reorder list. I recommend you opt in for email alerts to get notified when your size becomes available. Looking elevated every single time you step out of the door is no small feat, but it's something that Catherine, Princess of Wales, manages to do on the regular. Whether she's re-wearing her favourite & Other Stories jeans with chic blazer or treating us to another impeccable red carpet ensemble (which, if you follow her glitzy track record, likely involves The Vampire's Wife or Alessandra Rich dresses), she looks polished at every turn. 

Further proof of this theory was evidenced today when Kate visited Scarborough alongside her husband, Prince William, during which they met with a young people’s mental health organisation and community focused organisation, both of which are funded in partnership with The Royal Foundation. While I can think of so many of her impressive looks from the archives, this one might be up there amongst my favourites. 

Opting for a timeless Max & Co camel coat, Kate masterfully matched the rest of her outfit to it to create high-end finish. This, in the fashion industry, is called monochroming—wearing one shade top-to-toe—and is the very styling trick editors and influencers use when they want to look expensive and put together. 

Underneath it she wore a knitted midi, which just so happens to be our favourite dress style to wear at this time of year, which she then finished with pieces we've seen before—a handbag from DeMellier and heels from Ralph Lauren. New in this outfit mix, however, is a waist-belt from affordable Brit brand, Boden, but I have no doubt it won't be the last we see of it now that it's been inaugurated into Catherine's wardrobe.

Kate Middleton has never been one to shy away from bright colours any time of year, autumn included. And she always seems to be attuned to the current season's colour trends and undoubtedly furthers them when she wears them. This time around, that colour is marigold.

The Princess of Wales visited a hospital today, wearing a pleated golden-yellow midi dress that resembled the colour of a changing leaf. She paired the Karen Millen dress with her favourite heels to wear with dresses and everything else: high pointed-toe pumps. They're as classic as shoes get, and her frequent use of them proves their versatility. But back to the marigold of it all.

Marigold pieces (and often full looks) made frequent appearances on the fall/winter 2022 runways, and the colour has begun popping up on the high street as well. It’s honestly hard to think of a time when Kate Middleton stepped out and didn’t look the picture of elegance. The duchess repeatedly gives us all lessons in putting together an understated yet chic outfit, and it’s been especially true this summer. If you like to see what Meghan Markle wears these days and also need new sandals, you've come to the right place. Markle was out in Santa Barbara over the weekend to cheer Prince Harry on at his polo match, and her casual summer outfit was quite relatable. I loved seeing Kate Middleton let her hair down and enjoy the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, but now the Duchess is clearly wasting no time getting back to work. The Duchess of Cambridge just hosted a meeting with politicians in London to discuss new research surrounding her biggest project: The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

For the business meeting, Middleton understandably with a polished trouser suit, but she made it much less corporate-looking by choosing a fun pale pink colour. The Queen's Platinum Jubilee has whipped London into a royal fervor and I'm reveling in all the amazing images coming in. While the Duchess of Cambridge typically attracts the most fashion attention, today it was Prince Louis who stole the show thanks to his adorable hand-me-down outfit. He wore a sailor-inspired top on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during the Trooping the Colour parade—the very same one that his father, Prince William, wore to the same event back in 1985. How cute is that? Oh, and his funny faces certainly caught the eye of the photographers as well. 

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton re-wore a white Alexander McQueen coat dress along with sapphire earrings and a necklace from Princess Diana's jewelry collection. The most famous woman in the world isn’t Taylor Swift, a TikTok star or even a Kardashian. She’s a 5’3” nonagenarian unlikely to have heard of any of the above, and this week, she’s celebrating a very important milestone: 70 years on the throne. In that time, Queen Elizabeth II has used the power of personal style to speak clearly and powerfully to her subjects, often without saying a word.

"The queen is one of the most photographed people in the world. Even if we rarely hear what she has to say, we all know her image,” says Matthew Storey, collections curator at Historic Royal Palaces. "And so what she communicates with her clothes is incredibly important and powerful.”

She’s followed the same style formula since the ’60s: a boxy dress and coat in a punchy hue, a coordinating hat, gloves, a ladylike handbag, a sturdy heel. It’s simple but unforgettable thanks to her fearless way with colour. Who could forget the lime-green suit she wore for Trooping the Colour in 2016 or her countless Crayola-bright Royal Ascot looks? 

She chooses her palette with visibility in mind, famously saying, "I have to be seen to be believed.” This attitude makes her "a beacon of colour and positivity in an otherwise confusing world,” says Bethan Holt, The Telegraph’s fashion director and author of The Queen: 70 Years of Majestic Style. "By carefully choosing a brooch or a certain colour, she can show us in such an understated yet powerful way what she wants everyone to think and know about her opinions in a way that’s so very clever.”

From the prim dresses she wore as a young princess to her dazzling white-tie-and-tiara formal looks as a young queen to her current era of paintbox-bright coats and hats, here are some of the queen’s best style moments from the past 70 years.

1. At Windsor Castle, 1944

By 18 years old, Princess Elizabeth was familiar (if not entirely comfortable) with being the subject of public interest. Her appearance as a poised teenager bears a startling similarity to some of her style signatures as queen: Her curled hair, ladylike floral dress and sensible shoes wouldn’t be out of place in photos taken 20 or even 50 years later. The pony, too…

2. The War Years, 1945

When Britain went to war, the princess joined up. As junior commander of the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), she wore a uniform not unlike that of the other 250,000 volunteers who served in the women's branch of the British Army during the Second World War.

3. Princess Bride, 1947

The future queen and Prince Philip announced their engagement together at Buckingham Palace, with the princess wearing a three-diamond and platinum engagement designed by Prince Philip. Their wedding in 1947 became a national celebration. Due to postwar shortages, the Princess had to save her clothing-ration coupons to pay for her wedding gown. (The government did allow her 200 extra coupons.) The ivory satin dress designed by Sir Norman Hartnell continues to inspire brides today.

4. At Balmoral, 1952

When the queen puts on her OOO, the place she’s most likely to go is Balmoral, her retreat in the Scottish Highlands. It’s here she most visibly relaxes, riding horses, shooting and walking—or just posing with the dogs in the garden in this off-duty skirt suit.

5. The Royal Film Performance, 1952 

Floral dresses and uniforms are fine, but sometimes, nothing but flat-out glamour will do. The annual Royal Film Performance in Leicester Square was a white-tie-and-tiara occasion. For her first as monarch, the queen wore a modern gown with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. A legacy from Queen Mary, it’s understood to be the queen’s favourite diadem. (What, you don’t have one?)

6. The Coronation, 1953 

The queen commissioned Hartnell, the British couturier who created her wedding gown five years earlier, to design her coronation gown and robe. The white satin gown was embroidered with floral emblems of the countries of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth: the English rose, Scottish thistles, Welsh leeks, and so on. The design took six embroiderers 3000 hours to complete. 

"It’s her most important dress,” says Storey. "The dress had to be suitable for this ancient, mediaeval religious ceremony of the coronation, and it is—and yet, at the same time, it’s a dress that was utterly right for a young queen in 1953. It embodies that ancient dignity of her role but also that huge feeling of optimism that greeted her ascension to the throne.”

7. Hosting the Kennedys, 1961

The queen wore Hartnell on many other occasions, including for a 1961 banquet honouring U.S. President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. The blue tulle ball gown was consistent with the queen’s typical style but unavoidable (and unflattering) comparisons were made to Jackie’s sleek, chic Chez Ninon gown.

8. The Equestrian Queen 

If the queen has a Balmoral uniform and a working uniform, she also has a Windsor Horse Show uniform. Almost every May, she can be seen admiring the horses at the show, typically wearing a skirt suit, jacket and skirt, or, more rarely, trousers. The constants are her silk headscarves and her Leica—the better to catch the action with.

9. A Presidential Visit, 1969

"A look that really stands out is a bright fuchsia cocktail dress that the queen wore to show President Nixon around Buckingham Palace,” says Holt. "She looks timelessly elegant, it fits her absolutely beautifully, and it’s wonderful that she’s a head of state, she is a woman, and she’s owning her femininity by wearing this big, bright dose of pink. She’s not shying away from it or trying to dress like a man—she’s dressing like a woman, she’s revelling in it, and she looks beautiful at the same time.”

10. The Royal Tourdrobe

The queen and her team prepare for royal tours with military precision, considering the symbols and meaningful colours of the host country, climatic considerations and the need to razzle-dazzle all the supporters. From her tours as a glamorous young queen in the '50s to more recent trips (note the maple leaf brooch she wore in Canada in 2010), she’s a master of diplomatic dressing. 

11. Faithful Friends, 1974

By the mid-’70s, the queen had embraced the look that would become her signature: dresses or skirt suits in a bold colour, always with a coordinating hat, sensible heels and a smart handbag—even when she’s on holiday.

12. Business Colourful

Angela Kelly, the queen’s personal dresser since the ’90s, further refined her style formula to create the inimitable look we recognise today. The queen always wears coats and dresses in bright colours (the better to ensure her visibility in a crowd), topped with magnificent hats. For finishing touches, she reaches for her Cornelia James gloves, Anello & Davide heels, Launer handbags and transparent Fulton umbrellas, trimmed to coordinate with her outfit.

13. Grandmother of the Groom, 2011

At the wedding of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, the queen’s sunshine-yellow outfit emphasised the happiness of the day. (Biographer Andrew Morton wrote that the monarch was "practically skipping” with joy.) She also nodded at the romance of the occasion with her choice of jewellery: a diamond brooch featuring a lover’s knot that belonged to Queen Mary.

14. #HighVisHighness, 2016

"I have to be seen to be believed,” the queen has said. There was no missing her at 2016’s Trooping the Colour, when she wore a neon-green Stewart Parvin ensemble that popped against the reds and whites worn by the rest of the balcony crew. The look gave rise to social media hashtags including #neonat90 and #highvishighness. Recently, London Fashion Week designer Richard Quinn praised this look as evidence of the queen’s "daring and subversive” style.

15. Queen of the Front Row, 2018

When she made an unannounced appearance at Quinn’s London Fashion Week show in February 2018, it was difficult for the audience to look anywhere but at the monarch in the front row. Not even Quinn’s acid-bright floral ensembles (inspired by the queen, no less) could draw focus. So when Kate Middleton was photographed last night at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London, my jaw dropped when I saw her impossibly beautiful dress devoid of all embellishments. She traded in sequins for a sleek black-and-white column gown that I'd argue is her most elegant look to date.

I'm going to make a bold claim: Kate Middleton has never looked more glowy than she has on the Jubilee Tour. That's right—the duchess who consistently serves up blow-dry inspiration and impressive outfits has been at her stylish best so far on her royal tour of the Caribbean. So much so it's making us excited just thinking out what she might wear next. 

The first stop on the Duke and Duchess and Cambridge's Jubilee Tour is Belize, where the couple have been meeting with the local people, making chocolate, and dancing like, well, let's face it, the world's watching. Next on their itinerary is Jamaica, and then it's on to the Bahamas.

KATE MIDDLETON JUBILEE TOUR OUTFITS: THE BAHAMAS

Style Notes: Kicking off the last leg in their Royal Jubilee Tour of the Caribbean, Middleton chose a teal dress by Brit designer, Emilia Wickstead—a perfect match to the Bahamian flag. 

Style Notes: When in doubt, reach for the most princess-y Disney dress you can find. This stunning Philippa Lepley gown is the very pinnacle of regal eveningwear.

Style Notes: It looks like Middleton is just as charmed by Self-Portrait's whimsical dresses as us—many a fashion girl falls back on her SP styles for wedding and events season. This peppermint green midi is such a refreshing shade to see her in.

Style Notes: In case you didn't already own a Rixo dress (where have you been?) then this will persuade you! The swirly pink print and relaxed-but-romantic button-down style looks effortlessly pretty to throw on, whether you're a royal in the Bahamas or heading to work on the Bakerloo line during a heatwave.

Style Notes: We knew instantly that this frilled and peplum-waisted dress was from a favourite British brand of Kate's, Alessandra Rich. Normally, she opts for the more understated options from each season but this is truly adventurous and we love to see it.

KATE MIDDLETON JUBILEE TOUR OUTFITS: JAMAICA 

Style Notes: Upon departing Jamaica, Middleton chose an Emilia Wickstead midi dress in a bright, on-trend Kelly green shade, which she accessorised with an ornate hummingbird brooch (the hummingbird is the national bird of Jamaica) and her signature beige court shoes. Recognise the dress? That’s because she wore it to Wimbledon in 2021. 

Style Notes: On their final, morning in Jamaica, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the inaugural commissioning parade for officers who have completed the Caribbean Military Academy’s Officer Training Programme. For the occasion, Kate chose a white lace dress, matching hat, and court shoes. 

Style Notes: For a meeting with the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, and his wife Juliet, Kate chose a white suit from Alexander McQueen, a bright orange blouse from Ridley London, and bracelets from Jamaican-born designer Lashawndla Bailey Miller. Her bag? It’s vintage. 

Style Notes: Never before have we seen Kate Middleton wear so much vintage as we have on this Royal Juilbee Tour of the Caribbean. Arriving for a day of reggae and football in Jamaica, Kate chose a coral-and-turquoise ‘50s summer dress from vintage boutique Willow Hilson Vintage. The dress originally had spaghetti straps, but seamstresses made use of a matching shawl to widen the straps for the Duchess. 

Style Notes: For their first evening in Jamaica, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a glittering black-tie dinner hosted by the Governor General. Naturally, Kate brought the glamour in an embellished tulle gown from one of her go-to designers, Jenny Packham. 

Style Notes: Continuing their Royal Jubilee Tour, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touched down in Jamaica where they have everything from black-tie dinners to military processions to look forward to. Switching things from her Belize departure look, Kate wore a bright yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress with her hair swept back into an elevated ponytail.

Style Notes: After a few days exploring this beautiful country, the outfit Kate Middleton wore to fly out of Belize is just as chic as the one she landed in—if not more so! For the departure, Middleton wore a vintage Saint Laurent red jacket—a piece she’s said to have bought while at university, white wide-leg tailored trousers, and white accessories

Style Notes: On the third day of Caribbean Royal Tour, Kate traded in her glorious ballgown from the night before (see below) for a more practical ensemble. She was exploring the Maya archeological site in the Chiquibul Forest, after all. For the day out, Kate chose a T-shirt from John Lewis & Partners, khaki cargo trousers from G-Star Raw that feel so ‘90s, her Ray-Bans from the previous day, and her trusty Superga trainers—the same pair favoured by Alexa Chung and general fashion types. Middleton has certainly been dressing to the theme on this trip, and we love to see it.

Style Notes: The Vampire’s Wife dresses are a fashion editor favourite, so you can imagine our delight when Kate stepped out in this breathtaking creation from the Brit brand for an evening reception in Belize. From the fluted sleeves to the shimmering fabrication, to the on-trend pink hue, she has just raised the bar in terms of her evening attire.

Style Notes: Kicking off the second day of the Royal Jubilee Tour, Kate Middleton wore a floral dress from Tory Burch and beautiful matching earrings from French fashion brand Sézane. Perhaps it's a combination of her outfit, glossy hair, and the sun on her skin, but this outfit is holiday dressing goals. 

Of course, Kate is no stranger to rewearing her fashion—for the outing, she dusted off a pair of Stuart Weitzman cork wedges, which we've seen her in on multiple occasions, plus an Anya Hindmarch clutch. Note how her bag picks up and enhances the red colour within her dress? Masterful. 

Style Notes: Later, Middleton chose to add a pair of sunglasses to her outfit—cool Ray-Bans, no less! She really is a woman after our own hearts.

Style Notes: For their first appearance in Belize, which included meeting Belizean Prime Minister Juan Antonio Briceño and his wife, Rossana, the Duke and Duchess and Cambridge co-ordinated in blue. For the occasion, Middleton chose a piece from one of her favourite designers, Jenny Packham. Opting for a lace dress in a gorgeous cobalt hue that perfectly matches the Belizean flag, she accessorised the ensemble with shoes from Emmy London and sapphire jewellery.

Apologies in advance for the royal pun here, but Kate Middleton is undoubtedly the queen of colour. We can probably assume that she's following in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth, who always wears bright colours so that she can be spotted in a crowd. Or maybe Middleton just likes her brights (and has brushed up on her spring/summer 2022 fashion trends via our bumper report). Either way, she's been known to wear trendy colours right as they're gaining steam, and that was certainly the case today at the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.

This time, the buzzy colour trend we're referring to (which happens to be quite pretty and flattering on everyone) is cobalt blue. It's a hue we spotted all over the A/W 22 runways of Dion Lee, Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant, and Off-White, to name a few. And lo and behold, we couldn't help but notice that both Zara and COS are brimming with new cobalt pieces, as per usual when there's a new colour trend brewing.

Who doesn't love a good royal tour? Kate Middleton travelled to Denmark solo but then joined forces with Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark in Copenhagen, offering double the royal fashion. The Duchess of Cambridge attended a variety of events, including a meeting at Amalienborg Palace. However, during her visit, there were two particular looks that stood out to us. First up was the look she wore to the Copenhagen Infant Mental Health Project at the University of Copenhagen. For the outing, Middleton looked sharp in a red tweed blazer and on-trend black wide-leg trousers whilst carrying a cute patent top-handle bag. 

Alarm bells began going off in our heads. Had we seen this blazer before? Yes, we had! And not just on Middleton, either. The duchess had indeed worn it for an appearance last year, but the place we recognised it from was Zara’s rails. That’s right—Middleton’s expensive-looking bouclé blazer is from the high street and comes in at £60. She just gives and gives, doesn’t she? 

Another ensemble we were impressed by was one she wore to visit a local nursery. For it, Middleton chose her signature denim combo: a green army jacket, skinny jeans and boots. She wore Blundstone 500 Chelsea Boots in Vegan Leather (£150) that I have a feeling will sell out ASAP now that they have royal approval.

While browsing through H&M's new arrivals for a story—yes, it's is part of my job—I saw a sporty sweater that looked incredibly familiar. Then it hit me: none other than Kate Middleton has worn a similar version before. And upon further digging, I found a photo of the late Princess Diana in the very same trend, too. Is that kismet or what?

Varsity jumpers are certainly nothing new, but H&M has a knack for translating trends into extremely affordable pieces that are widely accessible. No number of Zara jumpers or Accessorize earrings could make Kate Middleton actually seem relatable, try as she might. No offense, Duchess. It's just that a royal-sized budget, jewel-encrusted tiaras and worldwide fame are a tad out of reach for the average person. Kate Middleton's sister Pippa never needed an introduction again after that bridesmaid dress, but now there's yet another chic member of the family to keep an eye on. In September last year, Alizee Thevenet married Kate and Pippa's brother, James Middleton, and she has a cool, relaxed kind of style that I think you'll love. Last week, we were treated to a rare red carpet appearance by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, and now we're spoiled with a glam showing courtesy of Kate Middleton and Prince William. Filming is underway for The Crown's fifth season, and the costumes promise to be second to none. Elizabeth Debicki, who you may remember from The Night Manager or The Great Gatsby, is set to play Princess Diana in her early 30s in the 1990s. (She takes over for Emma Corrin, who played the icon in the '80s.) Thanks to paparazzi images, we have a sneak peek of perhaps the royal's most famous outfit, second to her wedding dress: her "revenge dress." 

But first, a little background. Princess Diana attended a gala at the famed Serpentine Gallery on June 29, 1994, wearing an off-the-shoulder black dress by Christina Stambolian, a Greek designer who established her brand in London. Earlier this same day, a documentary aired, in which Prince Charles admitted to having an affair during his marriage to Diana. The timing of the event, where the princess looked positively stunning, led people to dub her look the "revenge dress."

If the Princess of Wales knows anything, it’s how to put together a Christmas Day outfit. Not that we’d expect anything less from Kate, but ever since her first appearance in 2011 with the royals at their traditional Christmas morning church visit, she has been getting it right year after year, serving us some serious festive-dressing inspiration when we need it most. 

Like any good winter outfit, her looks always centre around a statement coat that says cosy but refined. Sometimes she pairs her outerwear with suede boots or classic courts, and there’s nearly always a fabulous headpiece, her go-to drop earrings and a hint of faux fur. As the Princess settled into royal life, her Christmas Day outfits only got better and better. You only need to glimpse at her most recent ensemble, the outfit she wore this very morning in Sandringham, as proof. 

Last year, the Princes of Wales did not disappoint when it came to her outfit, opting for a tailored coat in a classic deep blue hue, which she styled with a matching pleated skirt and roll-neck jumper, and finished with leather bow and feather. On her feet were a pair suede knee boots; the winter shoe beloved by editors and influencers alike and that's been more prevalent than ever this season. 

This year, she stepped out in an elegant and classic forest green ensemble featuring an Alexander McQueen coat and suede boots in a slightly deeper hue. The princess has finished her Christmas Day 2024 outfit off with a statement hat and tartan scarf. After earthy tones such as brown dominated in 2024, we expect to see deep greens take over the trends as we head into 2025, so props to the Princess of Wales for being ahead of the curve.

For her very first appearance at St. Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate, Kate came to prove she wasn’t messing around.

The funnel-neck aubergine coat was classically simple, but her matching Mulberry bag and Jane Corbett velvet hat had future fashion icon written all over it.  

2013

A serial outfit repeater (and all the better for it), the Princess of Wales repurposed her favourite Alexander McQueen tartan coat for Christmas Day and would go on to wear it for many winters to come. She paired it with classic black suede knee-high boots because when aren’t they appropriate?

2014

As we know, Kate loves to support British fashion, and in 2014, she leaned in to the Christmas-in-the-countryside vibe with this tweed coat by Moloh, a Gloucestershire-based brand. It’s the silk-scarf detail and Lock & Co pillbox hat for us though.

2015

For a rainy Christmas morning in 2015, the Princess opted for a festive green Sportmax coat.

She cinched the coat in place with a leather belt and her favourite Kiki McDonough drop earrings.

2016

For Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s first Christmas morning appearance, the couple broke from tradition and spent the holidays with her family in Bucklebury. She brought out an old favourite for their morning church visit: the Hobbs Celeste coat, which the eagle-eyed of you will remember she also wore for a relaxed Christmas morning in Bucklebury in 2012 without the faux-fur lapel. We like to think she keeps this one in her childhood bedroom ready for such occasions.

2017

This is where things start to get interesting. For Meghan Markle’s first Christmas morning appearance, the Kate stepped it up, covering her third baby bump with Diana-inspired Miu Miu checks. The velvet collar and furry hat scream Christmas and just might take this look to the top spot of Kate’s best festive looks so far.

2018

By 2018, it’s clear Kate is coming into her own with her style and feeling much more confident at the traditional Sandringham appearance. Her statement Jane Taylor headband and Mrs. Claus–esque berry-red coat from Catherine Walker with a velvet collar and cuffs stood out next to Meghan’s pared-back navy ensemble, and we were here for it.

2019

Another show-stopping Catherine Walker coat accompanied Kate for the children’s first Sandringham appearance in 2019. In a cute nod, she matched her holly-green accessories to Princess Charlotte’s outfit. 

2022

After a lockdown restrictions meant at-home Christmases in 2020 and 2021, we we eager to see what the Princess of Wales stepped out in in 2022. She opted for a forest green, tailored maxi coat and chocolate brown suede boots, finished off with matching accessories in the form of gloves, a clutch and statement hat.

2023

In 2023, the princess chose a bright blue ensemble by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, complete with Princess Diana's earrings.

Mark your calendars: Oprah's highly-anticipated interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is set to air on Sunday. It comes hot on the heels of other major news from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just two weeks ago: their baby #2 announcement. While we're currently six days out from the interview, the network has kindly shared a short preview to whet our appetite. 

In the preview, Markle is wearing a dress by Armani embellished with a lotus flower, earrings by Canadian brand Birks (which she's worn numerous times), and a necklace by British designer Pippa Small. She is also wearing a bracelet that belonged to the late Princess Diana because the couple wanted to include her in the interview. How sweet is that?

Don't overlook the details of her outfit: The lotus is a symbol of rebirth and revival, paralleling the couple's reemergence in their brand-new post-royal life. Markle also included jewellery brands from both Canada and Britain, which are the two Commonwealth countries she's lived in. And lastly, wearing Princess Diana's bracelet is such a thoughtful and personal gesture. 

In a press release, CBS explained what to expect from the program. "In the two-hour special, Oprah speaks with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, and philanthropic work, to how she is handling life under intense public pressure," the statement said. "Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family."

Given the media adoration, fashion industry attention, and overall constant press coverage, there is no denying that Princess Diana was an absolute style icon in her day. Between her haircuts and her outfits, Lady Di's looks were loved and emulated the world over in the '80s and early '90s.

Though, the true test of her fashion icon status is, undoubtedly, the fact that we're still talking about her style more than 20 years later. From the boxy blazers to the Versace minidresses, several of the late royal's most iconic looks feel more relevant than ever in 2021, and that is only supported by the fact we keep seeing influencers and fashion devotees in reimagined versions of her past outfits. 

From checkerboard-print trousers to knitted vests and colourful patterned coats, several of the trends Princess Diana championed in the '80s are now the key looks we're seeing for spring 2021. Holiday The Label has released a style of check trousers which feel very reminiscent of an instantly recognisable pair Diana was pictured wearing in 1986, while the purple knitted vest she donned as a fresh-faced 19-year-old also feels extremely modern today.

We've noticed a trend within the styling of Catherine, Princess of Wales. During her visit to Boston as part of the U.S tour alongside William, Prince of Wales, Kate appeared for a series of engagements and proved, yet again, that denim is not the only way to pull together an easy, chic outfit. Wearing a look that was very reminiscent of a navy ensemble she chose on a royal tour last year (more on those looks below) she assembled a burgundy and pink, tonal outfit with a trouser style that is fast becoming her signature: tailored flares.

Kate's endlessly chic style has inspired plenty of outfits for us over the years, from casual outfits composed of much-loved & Other Stories jeans and Veja trainers, to elegant red carpet gowns. But its the in between of these two extremes of casual and dressed-up that really excites us. Kate's appearances require the balance of smart and chic, and we've noticed that her signature tailored flares are the perfect combination of both. In a couple of styling moves that are now recognisably very HRH, Kate chose to go tonal (a move that makes any outfit simpler), to add in some classic pearl earrings and to ensure that her flared trousers were (probably) tailored just so, in order to sit neatly above her pointed-toe shoes and to only just scrape the ground. Personally, I'm obsessed with flared trousers and would gladly trade my skinny jeans for them because they look so polished without trying hard. Plus, they're great for elongating your frame when worn with heels.

Some people are absolutely obsessed with the royals, including everything they wear, where they are going, who they are dating, and so on and so forth. I, on the other hand, am not. I mean I get it, trust me. The fact that anyone who is a royal is essentially untouchable stirs up weird feelings of obsession and wonderment as we all desperately try to get an inside look at the lives of the princesses, queens, duchesses, and more. I will admit that a lot of royals do dress well, especially Princess Diana. While that certainly is not news, after searching through archive images of the People's Princess, I found 15 outfits I personally had never seen before that really struck a chord.

The looks you're about to see here are each the perfect combination of classic and trendy. Each and every one of the outfits could be worn now and look fresh as a button. Take the below look, for example.

1. Structured Pastel Dress

I can't quite put my finger on it, but it looks like something that Staud would or already has come out with. Everything from the coloring to the buttons to the strong shoulders and tailoring has me wishing I was wearing that dress as we speak. 2. Hot Pink Blazer Dress

This dress reminds me of a hot pink blazer dress I just bought and have been wearing nonstop. It's a bit shorter than this, but seeing Princess Diana in something similar solidified my purchase. 

3. Breezy Floral Situation

I'm pretty sure this is a dress she's wearing, but many brands today have been churning out similar situations in a matching set form, and now I'm definitely buying one. 

4. Hot in Houndstooth

Considering this is always a big winter trend, you better bet your bottom dollar I'm taking inspiration from this look for now.

5. Slime Time

I love that we are all up in arms about the trending slime color, but Princess Diana did it first and, if I'm being honest, did it better. 

6. One-Piece Wonder

This summer jumpsuit is everything I need in my life and more. It's breezy, easy to wear, and is clearly so timeless it hurts. 

7. Asymmetric Attire

One-shoulder pieces are trending right now across the board, but most are reaching for those asymmetric swimsuits or tanks. Well, after seeing Princess Diana rock a one-shoulder gown, that will be my inspiration for my next event.

8. The Perfect Pair

I would have never thought to perfectly match my socks to my skirt, but after seeing this look, I'm about to go on a manhunt to find socks that match all my bottoms. 

9. Casual Coat Styling 

It's the perfect kind of weather right now to wear such a cosy coat. We'd maybe swap in some jeans to go with those all-important dad sneaks.

10. The Perfect Slip

Have you ever seen a more perfect slip? I thought the answer was no until I tried to find something similar enough to shop out and low and behold, I found something with similarly thick lacy straps below. You're welcome.

11. '80s Suiting

Strong shoulders, primary colors, and unique detailing—all elements that are required for the perfect '80s suit. This was a uniform Princess Diana relied upon for a while. 

12. The Perfect Wedding Guest Dress

Need a dress for all those end-of-summer fall weddings you're going to? Well, Princess Diana was the queen of wedding-appropriate frocks, and this one just happens to be my favorite. 

13. Minimal Moment

I truly never knew a white coat, white pumps, and a contrasting necklace could look so special, but seeing Diana wear the combo here has me wanting to wear this to important meetings, nice dinners, and beyond.

14. Matching Head-to-Toe

We've seen a lot of designers send out looks for both this season and next that consisted of one colour from head to toe, which makes getting dressed insanely easy. Once again, Princess Diana did it first. 

15. Everyday Chains

Chain jewelry is one of my favorite trends right now, and if you look closely, you can see that even Princess Diana was able to incorporate the trend into even the most classic of looks. 

It hardly comes as a surprise that The Crown season four has reignited the world's fascination with all things Princess Diana. Perfectly encapsulating the royal's natural charm, Emma Corrin's depiction of Lady Di was nothing short of fascinating. And of course, along with our renewed interest in Diana's life has come a renewed interest in her ever-adored personal style. 

Season four predominantly takes places throughout the 1980s, depicting the early years of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage. It was an era in which shoulder pads and feathered hair reigned supreme, and as the fashion-conscious royal she was, Diana partook in several of the decade's most iconic styles.

Throughout the series, fans get a glimpse at some of Diana's most notable fashion moments—including the blue blazer and pussy-bow blouse she wore for her engagement announcement—as well as an imagined look into her more casual, everyday attire. In fact, fans have been so enamoured by the costume design on the show that shopping app LikeToKnowIt has recorded a staggering increase in searches for various trends Diana championed. 

According to LikeToKnowIt, there has been a 7000% month on month increase in searches for large-collar blouses since the show aired, a 2900% increase in searches for pussy-bow blouses, and a 1000% increase in blue blazers over the same period of time.

Style Notes: This is undeniably one of Princess Diana's most iconic looks. When announcing her engagement to Charles, the royal donned a blue blazer and pussy-bow blouse, which perfectly matched the shade of her sapphire engagement ring. 

Style Notes: Throughout the series, Diana wore several statement collar blouses, which were a true hallmark of 1980s style. These looks often appeared as part of her more casual attire, and thanks to contemporary brands like Ganni, many iterations of this trend can readily be found today.

If I had to describe Kate Middleton's style, in a word, I'd say traditional. The duchess rarely strays from classic wardrobe essentials that define polish and sophistication. Tailored separates, straight-leg jeans, A-line dresses, double-breasted coats and more are among her repertoire of timeless styles, which she rotates occasion after occasion. 

With an aesthetic so enduring, it would be fair to say that Middleton rarely follows trends. But, by contrast, it seems that at times, trends follow her. Most recently, this can be seen within her penchant for riding boots. 

Kate Middleton has been a fan of riding boots for years and has been spotted in the same brown leather pair on more than a few occasions. Often worn for royal appearances, the Duchess generally pairs her boots alongside skinny jeans and waterproof jackets to create practical ensembles, though this winter it seems the fashion set is re-thinking the equestrian-inspired shoe completely. 

From Camille Charriere to Thora Valdimars, influencers all over the world are embracing flat, knee-high boots, yet pairing them alongside decidedly more fashion-forward looks. For Charriere, that means Chanel logo tights and an oversize blazer, while for others it means shorts, leather trench coats, or mini dresses. When it comes to personal style, Kate Middleton is definitely a creature of habit. The Duchess of Cambridge often finds looks, styles or silhouettes that work for her and then wears them on repeat (whether it be floral face masks or a-line dresses).

One such example of Middleton's consistent style is the royal's penchant to red coats. From Christmas Day to more casual occasions, Middleton has been spotted in a red coat more than a few times. Today, the Duchess opted for the shade yet again as she attended the launch of the Hold Still campaign wearing a crimson-hued, floor-length coat by Alexander McQueen.

Looking every bit the sophisticated royal that she is, Middleton paired the brightly-coloured coat alongside a white top and black accessories including pumps and a top handle bag. By keeping the rest of her outfit quite minimal, Middleton let the statement coat shine.
