As if like clockwork, winter’s blistering grip has relinquished and invited in spring’s blissful warmth, resulting in revitalised wardrobes that prioritise lightweight fabrics, ethereal silhouettes and dreamy prints.

This season, however, it appears that the biggest blouse trend of note doesn’t just meet all those requirements, but also delivers that dose of nostalgia we so often seek out, whilst providing an angelic counterpoint to the dependable jeans we tend to spend most of our time in.

Indeed, peasant tops are once again trending, offering a soft sensuality that feels completely fitting for the sun-drenched days that stretch ahead of us.

For the uninitiated, peasant tops refer to a style of blouse that features a slightly puffed cap sleeve, an elongated shape that billows down the body and intricate details like broderie anglaise eyelets, lace trims, whimsical ruffles or quaint pleats that give the top a hand-made, almost archival quality.

Just look at the lines that stretch through Portobello Markets on any given Saturday when the sky is a picturesque blue, or the fanfare surrounding archival boutiques like Rellik or Turner Vintage, which specialise in rare, almost antique pieces from the past century, as proof of our collective appetite for pieces that are intricate, thoughtful and effortlessly elegant

Of course, for adherents of the bohemian aesthetic, you’ll know that peasant blouses aren’t new by any means. First garnering popularity through the 20th Century, they first came to prominence in the ‘40s with Henri Mattise depicting several styles in his work before becoming a fixture in the balmy wardrobes of the European jet set like Jane Birkin in the ‘60s before finally showing up on the runway in Saint Laurent’s landmark “Haute Russian" collection in the ‘70s.

These days, you’re bound to find a peasant top within the work of designers who derive the most inspiration from these eras, from Chemena Kamali’s free-spirited and intrepidly feminine pieces for Chloé or Margaret and Katherine Kleveland’s work for their beloved brand Dôen, which the pair describe as holding a “reverence for coastal California of decades past".

However, when it comes to how they’re styled, not much has really changed. Allowing the fluidity and ease of the style to really shine, most wearers pair their peasant tops with sturdy denim bottoms, particularly light washes in straight-leg cuts. Emulating the spirit of the La Piscine star, they’re commonly complemented with her trademark basket bag, too.

Still, in a season defined by lightness and a renewal, there’s nothing more appealing than embracing a trend that allows a more delicate and tender side to show. In the words of Charli XCX—which were immortalised on her magnum opus party album brat and subsequent use in Emerald Fennell’s film adaptation of the literary classic Wuthering Heights—everything is romantic.

I'm all for a good dress trend. Discovering a new silhouette that feels fresh, exciting and in-tune with your mood of the moment is an experience that delights me every time. That's why I'm always on constant alert for the next big style shift.

This week, I stumbled across a dress that does exactly that. Featuring an arm-baring, bias-cut design, a V-neck finish and an elegant polkadot pattern, I think I might have stumbled across the dress of the season. Laura Harrier agrees—stepping out in an elegant, knee-grazing dress adorned with a pretty front bow, her Réalisation Par Stephanie Dress £220 piqued my interest the moment I saw it.

No sooner had Harrier’s look seared itself into my mental mood board than I experienced a case of fashion déjà vu. Scrolling through Net-a-Porter later that day, I came across a strikingly similar design by cult label Dôen. Its Tahlia dress (£516), also cut on the bias with a deep V-neck and effortless drape, had me doing a double take.

As if the trend was following me, a colleague then pointed out a third piece completing what I now consider the holy trinity of V-neck bias dresses. Strolling through London this week, I've spotted a series of stylish women all embracing the same coat trend. Being a fashion editor means trying on a lot of clothes, all in the name of research. Whether that’s road-testing new designer collections, giving samples a spin at a press event, online shopping to try on in the comfort of my own home, or even just straight up hitting the great British high-street to see what’s in store now—I will argue to say that only when trying on a garment in the flesh will you be able to get a real feel if it is something that works for you, and will slip nicely into your existing wardrobe to be worn, cherished and revisited for years to come. This is how each of us builds our personal style—it’s all about giving things a go, and editing along the way. For me, it’s all about building a capsule wardrobe, one that works for every day, and with a little bit of styling tinkering here and there, it can take you through from season to season pretty effortlessly.

My one rule breaker, however, is occasion wear. Dressing up for an event, celebration or party needs a little more attention and planning, and many women agree on one London-based brand that ticks so many boxes for the times when you want feel that little bit more special. Gentle frills and ruffles? Tick! Florals and animal print aplenty? Tick! Vintage feel cuts and vibrant colours? Tick! And yes, it’s cult-favourite RIXO that I am talking about. Stepping into the store, you are instantly transported to a magical paradise—every inch of the store is a wild burst of colour, pattern and fragrance, and artfully curated with an array of new collections, a vintage selection, a bridal boutique with private fitting area, a jewellery and accessories cabinet, a coffee kiosk and, lastly, an alterations bar (a fabulous touch for those who may need their garments tweaked then and there for the perfect fit). I worked with the wonderful in-store stylists to make an edit of their best and newest styles, for me to try on in their beautiful changing rooms.

1. The Eleanor Cotton Midi Dress

Style Notes: Starting off with the print trend of the season, I practically leaped across the store to find my size in this midi dress in all-over polka dot. Our News writer Natalie Munro has been singing the praises of the humble polka for some time now, noting the rise in it's popularity and its wealth-whispering appeal. Slipping on this cotton number shows me exactly why. Much like many of RIXO's vast array of vintage-feel dresses, this one truly feels like a gem from time gone by, but is equally contemporary with its fitted silhouette and chic bow detail at the neckline. I don't forsee wearing this to a wedding as a guest (I would be cautious as it is still very much white, a no-no), however, I do think it would be perfect for other high summer events and occasions, or maybe the odd brunch or afternoon tea. I paired it with the brand's famous Zenni bag in silver and the Ciervo shoes in black to match the polka detail. I think this style is super chic, and I just know I would reach for it time and time again.

Style Notes: Next up, I slipped on this Clementina Silk Dress in the shade 'Claudia Rose Cream', a beautiful off-white base with an all-over red rose print, with just the right amount of ruffles and frills. RIXO has mastered the art of florals, with Creative Director and Co-Founder Orlagh hand-painting many of their signature motifs. This rose pattern is forever timeless, and feels just like something I would reach for in the event of an alfresco dinner on the Amafi Coast. A girl can dream! 3. The Kendall Cotton Midi Dress

Style Notes: Speak to any stylish woman on the great British high street today and many will undoubtedly admit that they have a little leopard print in their wardrobe in some way, shape or form. For me, leopard print dresses appeal, so seeing this shirred cotton-voile dress across the store, I had to give it a go. I loved the ease of slipping this one over my head and the form-fitting bust and shoulder straps. It's a fun midi option that can be dressed up for work or downplayed for daytime or weekend. RIXO's signature Antelope motif carries over the entire garment—a sophisticated beige base with artful spots which appear to be hand-painted (I have no doubt). The lightness of the dress is perfect for the high summer season, as it is breathable and super soft to the touch. I paired it with their Ischia Necklace, featuring Tiger's Eye beads to complement the safari theme. Meow!

4. The Edina Cotton Maxi Dress

Style Notes: Sometimes a pretty white dress is just the ticket for spring, and can make you feel fresh, comfortable and chic in one fell swoop. Made from easy-breezy cotton voile, the Edina dress instantly transports me to the English countryside. It's positively made for picnics and days pottering around local antiques stores (some of my favourite activities for a long stay-cation here in the UK). This was easily my stand-out dress from the selection I tried out—it feels like a breath of fresh air on the skin, and I know it will slip easily into my capsule wardrobe as it is such a classic piece. My only advice would be to wear nude underwear, as the fabric is a touch transparent. I wanted to give it a little bit of character with a bold chain necklace, adorned with a trio of shells and charms, plus a fab pair of thong sandals with a sweet little flower embroidery. I just need a Jane Birkin-style basket bag on the crook of my arm to complete the look. J'adore!

5. The Sorana Cotton-Blend Midi Dress

Style Notes: This Sorana Midi dress reminds me of a treasured dress I used to wear as a little girl, with its soft pink shade and dainty pansies decorating the surface. No doubt my dress found its next home by way of a charity shop, to be handed down for years to come for another little girl. This dress, however, feels like a contemporary update to such a '90s floral style, with whimsical ruffles bordering the scoop neckline and a simple, straight midi-length. I just know this dress would be perfect for a warm summer's evening with friends, with an Aperol spritz in hand and the sun setting ahead. I kept accessories light and golden, with the Zenni bag and Ciervo shoes, plus a Sol pendant necklace to boot. Sugary sweet and super pretty.

6. The Amari Satin Midi Dress

Style Notes: There's no doubt about it—the Amari Satin Midi Dress makes for a great wedding guest dress contender. Its cornflower-blue shade and intricate lace details to the shoulders and neckline remind me of a nightie from a bygone era, but the form-fitting silhouette brings it straight forward into the modern age, making it spot-on for an event or special occasion. Like many of the dresses I tried on, I took this in a size 10, which felt perfectly in balance with my shape, with the heavyweight satin giving a gorgeous drape and flair when it moves. This kind of dress doesn't want overcomplicating—it's a gentle beauty needing the simplest of accessories, such as a beaded bag and pair of kitten heels. I advise wearing seamless undies to help avoid any VPL showing here, as the Amari is whisper-soft.

7. The Gracye Silk Dress

Style Notes: Alexa, play 'La Isla Bonita' by Madonna! The Gracye dress is a new shape for RIXO, but has all the vintage hallmarks we know and love from the brand. The exaggerated ruffles along the neckline carry their way down to the hemline, and the long sleeves have a pillow-like quality at the wrist. I feel like the flamenco dancer emoji, albeit with an all-over English garden vintage floral pattern to remind me of where I really come from. I am desperate to debut this style at a beach club or dinner in Menorca, with a few Balearic appropriate accessories such as these absolute door-knockers, aptly featuring pearls and starfish, and a raffia bag. An instant holiday favourite, and one that will continue to hit the mark for many vacations to come.

Inclusivity remains a contentious term in the fashion industry. In the 12 years since I began writing about the subject for a living, some would argue that things have taken a positive turn, and I do see more representation and diversity across the board than I did in 2011.

However, we still have a long, long way to go before everyone is able to see themselves represented in the market. You’d think this responsibility would be taken seriously by the conglomerates—these brands have a global presence and a very real ability to spark overnight change with the simple decision to cater to every type of customer. And no, I’m not interested in hearing about how doing so would negatively affect profit margins, especially since smaller, independent brands are rising to the occasion.

Today marks the launch of an exciting new collaboration, one that Who What Wear UK has been counting down ever since we were told about it in hushed tones a few months ago. British brand and editor-favourite Rixo has launched a capsule collection in collaboration with Abisola Omole, who you may fondly know as @abimarvel. It's the first time Rixo pieces range from a size UK 6 to a UK 26—news which will mean so much to so many fashion fans.

Any fashion person worth their salt will tell you that Rixo creates some of the best dresses (amongst other garments) in the business, and the Rixo x Abisola Omole edit certainly lives up to its lofty expectations. A multi-hyphenate if there ever was one, Omole heads up two businesses (a lifestyle brand and a drinks brands, both under the name Arva), has designed a jewellery collection with Daphine, and still finds time to be a content creator and all-round source of style inspiration.

The collaboration is the result of a year-long partnership between Rixo and Omole. The goal? To create a capsule collection with nuanced, inclusive design decisions that appeal to different tastes. 

"I’m so excited to have partnered with Rixo on this special extended sizing collaboration," said Omole. "The intention behind the collection is to provide more body types access to cool, playful and chic styles, as they are often overlooked. We wanted to design a collection that felt different to what was currently available in this size range, and I wanted the pieces to feel timeless and easy to wear.

"I’m proud of what we’ve created. Though I don’t have a favourite piece, as someone whose wardrobe is 50% comprised of knitted dresses, the Abisola dress feels really special as it fuses my classic style with Rixo’s renowned use of colour."

"We are so thrilled to work with Abisola on this capsule collection," said Orlagh McCloskey, co-founder and design director of Rixo, which initially extended its sizing in some of its styles to a UK 24 last year. "We’ve been passionate about perfecting our fit and extending our sizes for the past two years, and collaborations like this one allow us to keep improving and understanding the needs of different body shapes."

It’s this willingness to listen and determination to do better that the fashion industry needs to adopt on a much bigger scale. I’ve just touched back down on UK soil after my first sunny break this year, and whilst our British weather is taking its time to turn up the heat, a week in the Mediterranean has reminded me of my summer essentials. I’m talking about those pieces of clothing that help you live happily and comfortably throughout the hotter season whilst also looking fabulous. 

At any size, it’s likely you have a different winter and summer wardrobe, but from being plus-size (a UK 24 to UK 26), I’ve found that there are a few extra things that the warm weather ensures I think about. Myself and my bigger-bodied peers are chatting about chaffing, FUPA coverage and how to wear less fabric whilst still supporting bigger boobs. Sounds familiar? Read on for my hacks and top tips for dressing this summer and every summer.

1. Natural Fibres

Firstly, let’s talk about fibres. I want to encourage you to start rummaging for the side labels in clothes and clicking on "product details” drop-down boxes when you’re shopping online. When it’s warm, you need breathability, and natural fibres are your friend. Although I prefer to avoid synthetic fibres all year round, I find it particularly important in the summer. Without getting too sciencey, natural fibres have a hollower structure, meaning they can absorb heat and perspiration and release it into the air. Heat and sweat then pass through the fabric, allowing you to regulate your temperature rather than trapping it underneath like synthetic fabrics do. Linen, cotton, silk and viscose are the fibres I look out for. I’m also pretty obsessed with the look of linen and the relaxed summer vibes it gives off. 2. Great Swimwear 

When it comes to swimwear, I never stick to one style. For the sake of your tan lines and for your comfort, I think it’s always important to pack around three different variations. I find myself wearing smaller and smaller bikinis as the summer or my holiday goes on, as I become used to showing more skin, and I ultimately only care about levelling out my tan lines (sensibly with plenty of SPF, of course). 

My new brand obsession is Youswim, a UK-made swimwear brand that creates pieces in two very flexible sizes covering UK 6 to UK 28. This year, Youswim has added Stretch II to its size range. This is the larger of its two sizes, which now means people up to a size UK 28 can wear the designs. The brand also stated that it’s continuing to work on more fits and sizes, so I’m hopeful we’ll see further increases in the range. I have a couple of the brand’s bikinis, and they’re so soft and comfortable. I highly recommend!

A triangle bikini is a staple, and I wholeheartedly believe, no matter what size or shape you are, you can wear as teeny a bikini as you want to. One of my favourite brands for a triangle set is We Are We Wear, another UK-based brand founded by two women that I used to work with on the design team at ASOS. Founder Natalie has specialised in lingerie and swim design for over a decade so really knows her stuff. They’re passionate about making their brand more and more inclusive, stocking sizes XS to 3XL (UK 4 to UK 30) and working towards genderless silhouettes. 

If you’re looking for swimwear with more coverage and support for swimming in, I would suggest trying out Fabletics. The brand has pieces in sizes XXS to 4XL (a UK 4 to a UK 28-30). I love the look of the higher neckline, zip-front bikini tops and swim shorts, especially for when I’m swimming in my local sea pool in Margate. 

Another brand shout-out goes to Alpine Butterfly Swim. It’s a US-based luxury swimwear brand, and its quality is incredible! It designs really fun styles of swimwear and cover-ups that are unlike what I’ve seen before available in this size range. The brand offers sizes XS to 6XL, which equates to a UK 4 to UK 42. 

Just before I share my swimwear selection, I need to share my favourite bikini hack. If, like myself, you have a flatter bum but a bigger belly, wear your bikini bottoms back to front. This gives you more coverage at the front and a little cheekier bit of less coverage on your bum. I pretty much do this every time I wear a bikini now, but of course, you can always switch it back around for a different fit. It’s just great to have more options from one garment.

3. Summertime Support

As it heats up, we’re wanting to wear fewer layers and less fabric, but this comes with its own set of issues. If you’re plus-sized, it’s likely you have a bigger bust or chest, too, so how can you get enough support from your underwear to wear skinny straps or no straps at all? It’s also unlikely that you’ll want to keep wearing tights, so how can you prevent chaffing whilst wearing the dresses you want to? 

One way I’m tackling the strap situation this summer is by not wearing a bra altogether, but I absolutely need some boob support to feel comfortable. I’ve been trying out Manners London. Sally, the founder and self-proclaimed "titty witch,” creates pieces in sizes UK 4 to UK 36 made from thick jersey that hugs your body enough to also support your boobs. Manners offers easy staple styles in classic colours alongside bolder prints. I’ve recently been wearing the brand’s crop vest top, and it has been freeing to wear something without the stress of bra straps on my shoulders. Next up, I want to try its halter-neck top and square-neck vest.

When navigating strappy dresses, sometimes I’ll choose to wear a bikini top instead of a bra for support. A string bikini can work well underneath a halter neck or if you’re wearing something with cut-outs on the sides. I’ll simply try to find a bikini top in a similar colour to the dress or top so it blends in easier. 

If I’m wearing something slinkier, a bias-cut slip dress or a body-hugging knitted dress for example, I like to wear shapewear. I know shapewear isn’t for everyone, and it definitely isn’t a must, but I love it. It gives me a better posture, clothes seem to hang smoother, and it generally makes me feel secure and supported. I also turn to it for protection against thigh chaffing. In my lingerie drawer, I have an arsenal of shapewear, ranging from lighter support to firm. In this round-up you’ll find my long-standing favourites along with some newer styles I want to try. One final tip… Invest in some anti-chaffing balm. Mine has revolutionised my summer wardrobe, and I’m finally enjoying summers of miniskirts again!

Party season is here – hurrah – which means the shops are rammed with party dresses and all things sparkle. It feels like there’s a lot going on in the world right now (let’s not even go into that) however whilst somethings are out of our control, what we can do is put on an epic party dress and enjoy the countdown to the festive season in style. 

There’s nothing I enjoy more than shopping for party dresses and whilst I’m partial to dressing up like a Christmas bow or bauble, which normally involves some sort of pink or red organza, there are also some incredibly understated yet equally standout dresses out there to suit every style and occasion. As usual expect everything from sequins to velvet and a feather trim (the must-have detail of the season), as well as extreme hemlines and uber mini dresses. But with this much amazingness on site and in stores right now, how can we possibly choose which one deserves a place in our wardrobe?

Style Notes: This dress is part of the Camille Charriere collection for Mango and I just love the leopard print. A slinky slip dress is a fail-safe way to look chic and channel that effortless Parisian style with minimal effort. This one has a very low back so bra tape is a must if you need some support.

Style Notes: & Other Stories always do a great party dress but I was particularly taken aback by the weight of the beading on this dress, which is rare to find on the high street. I would style this with a pair of strappy silver heels and slicked back hair.

3. Zara Bias Cut Dress

Style Notes: This is the kind of dress that is useful to have in your wardrobe year-round. The bias cut is super flattering on my body shape and it’s a great option if you need to go from your desk to the dance-floor. I added these gold rhinestone boots from Zara to give it maximum party impact but you could also wear it with simple heels or knee-high boots.

4. Annie's Ibiza Corset Mini Dress

Style Notes: If you’ve never been to one of the Annie’s Ibiza shops, they are a must-visit treasure trove for all things party! This dress is an exclusive design by Silvia Astore named after Annie herself and I’ve wanted to try it for a while. The corset top fits like a glove and the mini skirt hits at exactly the right point to define my waist. I tried it on with silver cowboy boots which is quite a good way to dress it down (! but it is also available in green velvet for Christmas too. I have to admit, this dress feels like it gives me super powers...

5. Halfpenny London Wrap Dress

Style Notes: Designer Kate Halfpenny is known for her modern wedding dresses but she has recently launched her sister collection with 5 dresses in 2 colours. They're designed to be worn by bridesmaids, but Kate wanted to make sure they were also dresses you could wear after the wedding too. This wrap dress is so flattering, giving shape to more petite figures and creating a killer silhouette on curvier bodies, too. I’d wear this to a family gathering with a lurex chunky knit cardigan and boots but it could easily be dressed up with strappy sandals for formal events.

6. Nervi Feather Mini Dress

Style Notes: If there’s one party dress you are guaranteed to see on the dance floor this season it's one with a feather trim. Much to my joy, each season party dresses are getting more and more OTT. Italian designer Valentina Nervi is the latest to design a collection of joyful feather trimmed dresses and I am here for it. Ignore my black opaques and boots, I'd style this dress with bare legs and my most statement heels to maximum impact!

7. Nobody's Child Jacquard Mini Dress

Style Notes: Nobody’s Child has a lovely collection of party dresses starting at around £55, which is great if you’re looking to dress up on a budget. This jacquard mini has a fun nineties feel and is cut generously too which is a nice change. I love it with tights and boots for a dinner or theatre trip, but you could swap in platform heels for the dance floor.

Style Notes: Is it even party season without a Rixo dress? They have so many different options that have just landed in store, but I love this black velvet and gold lamé combo. This dress was so comfortable despite looking wow.I would add polka dot tights and black platform heels to finish the look.

Style Notes: It was tricky to photograph the beautiful fabric on this dress but it had a thick almost bandage-like weight to it and was super sculpting. I loved the hidden wire in the bra too, which makes it incredibly supportive. I would wear this dress all-year-round so for me it the cost-per-wear makes it totally worth investing in.

I love shopping for dresses. In part, it’s because they’re the easiest thing to wear and style up (especially when you’re looking to get ready quickly without compromising on style), but it’s also because it doesn’t matter where you are or if it’s during the busiest sale period when shops are bursting at the seams with last season’s dregs—without fail, you will always find a new dress to add to your collection. If there's one fashion conundrum that creeps up every summer, it's wedding-guest attire. It wouldn't surprise me if "what to wear to a wedding" is amongst the most (frantically) Googled phrases at the moment. So if you're feeling overwhelmed, know that you aren't alone. If there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that I’m a dress person through and through. Here at Who What Wear, we love discovering a hero buy. You know, the kind of item that pops up on your feed over and over again, worn by people whose style you adore. I like to imagine the cult item with a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants vibe, appearing in one location and then another, styled in different ways on different people and looking chic all the same.

This month, in particular, it feels as if two very specific hero buys have become virtually omnipresent online. The first is Arket’s Striped Cotton Jumper, which has become a choice staple for chic Londoners on days when the weather just won’t cooperate, and the second is Rixo’s Rickie Printed Shirt, which has been seen on those lucky enough to escape for some sun.

While the two items are drastically different (one is a classic staple, and the other is a fun statement piece), they’ve both managed to gain equal traction, and I’m willing to bet it’s because of their innate versatility. It's typically one of those classic items that every French person buys at least once in their life, so obviously, I love it. I think this would look great with black jeans and black shorts or even white shorts or just put over the shoulders. You can also pair it with sneakers, sandals and loafers. It's a timeless piece, so it's very versatile."

"'When in doubt, stripe it out' are words I live by! I'm a sucker for a good marinière stripe, and when I saw this Arket one, I knew it would be a staple in my wardrobe. I love how it has a bit of structure, making it really versatile to style, worn loose with straight-leg jeans or tucked into wide-leg trousers or an A-line skirt. It's the relaxed open collar and V-neck for me that makes it incredibly classic whilst looking so much more expensive than it is."

In fact, last week on Who What Wear UK, dress stories outperformed just about all other summer content (so sorry, sandals and swimwear). With summer dresses in such high demand, I thought I'd turn to a few experts to find out exactly which trends they foresee gaining popularity for the season ahead. 

From Orlagh McCloskey and Henrietta Rix of Rixo to Han Chong of Self-Portrait, Charlotte de Geyter of Bernadette and Haeni Kim of Kitri, I asked the brains behind some of the most coveted contemporary brands (and one very cool rental platform) about the dress trends they'll be championing this summer. Unsurprisingly, many of the experts replied with very similar responses. 

In a post-COVID world, many of us are looking for fashion that will put a smile on our faces, and this was a common thread throughout many of the quotes. Talks of joy, freedom, optimism and fun resounded throughout, and the concept of dressing up just because was also high on the list. In terms of tangible trends and takeaways, a few designers noted the prevalence of gingham this year, while others spoke to the popularity of bright colours and smile-inducing prints.

In the world of dresses, Rixo has been one of those cult brands that have made a name for themselves in a relatively short time. Winning over magazine editors and wedding-goers alike with its vintage-inspired designs, it has managed to inhabit that rare space between fashion and mainstream, which is no easy feat. Well, if that's not enough, Rixo just announced today that it is entering the world of footwear with one seriously cute sandal collection, and yes, it's just as good as we'd hoped.

In true Rixo style, the collection has plenty of vintage undertones. Think paintbox brights, '60s-inspired florals and the odd nod to the '90s strappy silhouette. Crafted in a second-generation factory in Alicante, Spain, by a team that specialises in small production runs, the collection ranges from £185 to £255, but rest assured that these designs are sure to make their money back in cost per wear. I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview of the collection before it hit the website, and I can confirm it is even better in real life. 

My favourite design has to be the Palma sliders with their graphic daisy embellishment and slip-on-and-go appeal. Coming in monochrome, green and pink, they are sure to liven up your summer denim. The one thing I would note is that the fit is a little snug, so unless you have particularly narrow feet, then best to size up. Despite being a little ambivalent about wearing heels again, I am also enamored with the simplicity of the Ciervo shoes, which would be perfect for the weddings I have coming up this year. Style Notes: The monochrome hue and graphic floral make these slides feel very Mary Quant in the best way possible. I'll throw them on with black trousers and a nice top for casual dinner dressing.

When sale season rolls around, it can be tempting to treat yourself to a new dress here or a fresh knit there, all with the added benefit of a discount. But the way we approach sale shopping is the same way we approach regular shopping. We never advise spending needlessly or without a strategy. Over the last few months, many of our lives have changed immeasurably. From a complete adjustment in work routines to drastically altered social lives, relatively nothing is the same as it was back in February. While we all are processing these changes differently, adjusting to a life in which many choices are beyond our control, one factor that has remained within our control is the way we choose to get dressed in the morning. 

Whether you have opted to completely embrace loungewear or prefer a slightly more polished aesthetic, there is no denying that what you wear each day can have an impact on your overall outlook and even mood or productivity. With this in mind, I decided to turn to the experts and asked a few of my favourite designers exactly what they have been wearing to work from home. And with answers from the women behind some of the fashion industry's buzziest brands—including Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey of Rixo, Ditte Reffstrup of Ganni, Haeni Kim of Kitri and Rejina Pyo—you're definitely going to want to read on.

Whether based in London or across various parts of the globe, a common thread amongst all the designers is that they are continuing to dress up despite remaining at home. From flowing midi dresses to loose-fitting jeans, comfort is, of course, a priority, though their style and personal aesthetics have not wavered.

"We’re currently in quarantine at my family country house in Korea, so we are trying to spend lots of time outside with our son Luka. The shirt is the Maja top, which is like an oversize golf shirt, paired with the Oscar linen shorts and, of course, Larissa sandals."

"When this whole WFH thing started, the first few days, I was just in my pyjamas all the time. But I found it was giving me the Sunday blues every day. So I started making an effort and dressing up more. It really made me realize how I dress for myself and nobody else. It’s actually become a bit of an act of self-care. I love these little red Mary Jane slip-ons paired with a denim skirt and some crispy white cotton."

"We have three kids. Our youngest is just 3 years old. So as you can imagine, we have had our hands full juggling homeschooling, work and endless video calls. Somedays I like to just go for something practical like baggy jeans and a mesh turtleneck in a happy colour."

We've all heard the phrase "all dressed up and nowhere to go," but this year the term has been given entirely new meaning. With restrictions on social gatherings and forced closures of pubs, bars and restaurants, we all literally have nowhere to go, though that certainly hasn't stopped our favourite influencers and It girls from continuing to dress up. Between shimmering minidresses and floral embellished midis, influencers worldwide are persisting with putting on their finest even if it is simply to bake a cake, work from home or lounge on the couch.

A few weeks back, Who What Wear UK introduced Dress-Up Fridays, an initiative which encourages us all to put on something extra special to celebrate the conclusion of the week (and ensure we're getting out of our activewear at least once every seven days). And with influencers constantly sharing images of themselves at home in bright, beautiful dresses, it couldn't be easier to find inspiration to put on you Friday best.

Between Emili Sindlev in Ganni, Monikh in Rixo and Nnenna Echem in Who What Wear Collection, you don't have to look very far to track down a gorgeous dress. So without further ado, here are 10 outfits I want to copy this week for dress-up Fridays, even if I am just sitting in my living room.

It is perhaps a universal musing that most women have asked themselves at one point or another: What makes a really great dress?

Is it dependent on the colour or the fit? Is it all about the length and the fabrication? Is there some kind of secret formula that takes a dress from average to irresistible?

This is a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately (particularly with London Fashion Week imminent) though rather than attempt to answer it alone, I thought it might be best to seek out the opinions of a few experts. Calling upon designers from Rixo, Kitri, Ghost, & Other Stories, Topshop and New Look, I posed the age-old question and surprisingly, their answers were fairly unanimous.

From contemporary brands to high-street labels, each designer agreed, a really great dress is one that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Of course, cut and construction are excessively important, as are flattering colours and quality fabrications, however, as Henrietta Rix so eloquently put it, ultimately a dress you "genuinely love and feel your very best in is worth the investment, as it will be something you always reach for.” Now that's a concept we can agree with.

Interestingly enough, it seems many women feel most comfortable and confident in midi-length dresses, as several of the brands below noted that midis are their most popular styles. Keep scrolling for six designers on what makes a really great dress.

Rixo

According to Henrietta Rix & Orlagh McCloskey, the co-founders of Rixo, a really great dress is one you will wear for years to come.

Orlagh explained, "The most important thing to look for in a dress that will stand the test of time in terms of design and composition – something that can become future vintage. Timeless print or colour, a versatile shape that you can wear any time of the day or occasion and high-quality natural fabrics that will last as you re-wear."

Henrietta adds, "A really great dress makes you have an emotional reaction." She continues, "our most popular dresses are without a doubt our versatile midi styles, like our Chelsea or Zadie shapes, that fit easily into our customers' lifestyles and can take them from a day at the office to an evening event."

High-street retailer & Other Stories also advocates for buying dresses that make you feel your best. "Go for a cut that you really like and that makes you feel both comfortable and confident," the brand told Who What Wear. "Our favourite dresses are the ones you have fun in. This spring, we're going for those that are very romantic—either in colour, print or silhouette—or styles that give a little nod to the '80s."

Kitri

Haeni Kim of Kitri certainly knows what goes into making a really great dress. In fact, most members of the team here at Who What Wear own at least one of Kim's designs. "Ultimately, when looking for a really great dress, pick a style that makes you feel good!" Kim explained. "Something that you look forward to wearing, a print that makes you smile, a shape that you feel confident in. Dress for your shape and stay true to your personal style, rather than following trends."

The designer also noted that when looking for a new dress, it's important to consider the details. "Quality finishing is a key consideration when looking for a dress that will stand the test of time," Kim said. "A beautiful lining, a well-designed cuff, attention to detail on buttons and fastenings. For spring, we have put a lot of consideration into these details."

Ghost

Sameera Azeem, creative director of Ghost, explained that finding a great dress is all in the shape and construction. "The cut and fit are really important," Azeem said. "The empire line is always flattering to every shape. Also, finding a dress that is versatile and can take you from day to evening or that you can layer with knitwear when it is cold."

New Look

"A great dress should be one that you put on and feel super confident in—one that expresses your personality and that you cannot wait to wear," explained the designers at New Look. "A great dress should also be versatile. We love dresses that can take you through from day to evening and equally where you can dress it up or down!"

The New Look designers also noted that the finer details are what truly count, explaining that it can be dependant on "attention to detail, such as trims and finishing, and, of course, the importance of a perfect fit."

Topshop

"Our customers reacted so well to our chuck-on dress last summer that we wanted an update for the new season that is versatile yet chic—perfect for unpredictable English weather," explained Anthony Cuthbertson, design director at Topshop. "We are really championing trapeze dresses this season, with mini and midi options present across the whole collection."

Creating bias-cut pieces is more expensive, but we'd rather sacrifice the expense to ensure our customers feel great and are getting true value. We tweak every single piece in our collections—even our classic shapes—to continuously improve them and ensure all the details are absolutely perfected."

The prints and silhouettes will be reinvented each season, but there are always consistent themes and familiar styles in every collection. "Our Rose dress is a shape we launched in our first collection and a silhouette that is so well loved by our customers that we have reinvented it in new prints in collections following."

Slip dresses, puffy sleeves, updated polka dots, Instagrammable animal prints and clashing prints have all long been Rixo signatures.
