The museum reports that the exhibition will "pair garments with artworks to reveal the inherent relationship between clothing and the body". If there was one phrase to sum up the past year, it would be the title of Charli XCX and Caroline Polacheck’s 2024 single, “Everything Is Romantic”. Love, clearly, is in the air, and given this collective mood coincides with Who What Wear UK’s 10th anniversary celebration, there’s never been a better time to look back on the stylish pairings that best embrace this. Indeed, there have been countless best-dressed celebrity couples vying for the crown throughout the course of our small but mighty history. Here on home soil, we have duos like Sienna Miller and Oli Green, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham and Alexa Chung and Tom Sturridge, all of whom make London’s vibrant fashion scene all the more exciting when they step out.

Across the pond, there are established relationships like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce and Lily-Rose Depp and 070 Shake, who prove that affairs of the heart are closely intertwined with those of the style variety. Congratulations are in order for Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, who revealed that they are pregnant with their third child together just minutes before the Met Gala. The musician and beauty mogul arrived at The Carlyle ahead of the event, co-chaired by A$AP Rocky (as well as Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, and LeBron James), wearing none other than the same brand she famously rocked throughout her first pregnancy, Miu Miu (you know the crystal look).

This time around, she rocked a sporty two-piece skirt-and-pullover set from Miuccia Prada's F/W 25 collection, which debuted back in early March during Paris Fashion Week. With the gray co-ord, she carried a fur stole (embellished with a brooch) and wore matching gray knee-high socks and pumps as well as a black cloche hat.

The couple currently has two children together, RZA Athelston Mayers and Riot Rose, both of whom were announced in iconic fashions. The news of Rihanna's first pregnancy hit newsstands when she and A$AP Rocky held a photo shoot in Harlem in January 2022, with the "We Found Love" singer donning a hot-pink coat, low-rise jeans, and a belly chain. We found out about her second pregnancy on stage at the Super Bowl in February 2023, where she wore a custom red Loewe jumpsuit.

For some, the smell of chai and pumpkin conjures up all the autumn feels, for others it’s the return of beanies and knee-high boots. For me, it’s reaching into my wardrobe and feeling in my bones that it’s time to bring out my favourite leather jacket. We’re currently in that time of the year when it’s too warm for a proper coat, yet a little too chilly (depending on the day) to go without anything on our arms. I've been excited about this year's Met Gala since the moment last year's ended. Now that the day has finally arrived, I have no qualms about saying that the event has truly outdone itself. This year's unparalleled red carpet looks paid homage to Karl Lagerfeld, one of fashion's most prolific designers.

That said, it's not a real party until Rihanna arrives—and she was definitely fashionably late as the Met Gala's very last arrival (by a long shot). The party doesn't start until Rihanna walks in. In a typical RiRi move, her and A$AP Rocky arrived fashionably late to this year's Met Gala. But rest assured, the singer and Fenty Beauty mogul didn't keep us waiting for nothing—her Met Gala glam was worth it. 

For her makeup look, Rihanna dipped into Old Hollywood glamour, sporting a bold red lip and a bouffant hairstyle under all the white florals she was enshrouded with. Rihanna's bold lips are a departure from many of the looks seen on the carpet tonight. While we saw tons of pink pops, eye jewels, and micro-bangs, the star kept her makeup simple and classic. 

Though Rihanna accessorised with false-eyelash sunglasses and white florals everywhere, this kind of timeless red lip is the perfect way to end a night dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld, a man who is most famous for his designs for Chanel. Up until recently, if you spotted sneakers in any fashion capacity, nine times out of 10, they were a pair from New Balance (either 990v5s or 550s) or a pair of the highly coveted but equally elusive Adidas Sambas (and no, we still can't find them in stock anywhere either). But after one too many sightings of a new, fresher-looking sneaker style on street style stars, runway models, and Instagram influencers alike, I'm starting to think a new It shoe is rising to prominence. There was a time in the not so distant past where your brows needed to be filled in, perfectly arched, and blocky in order to prove that you were clued up on the latest eyebrow trends. Bold brows, in general, were everywhere, with multi-step brow routines inspiring a boom in the creation of brow pomades, gels, pencils, and powders.

However, in recent years, makeup trends in general have evolved towards a ‘less is more’, natural-looking approach. Eyebrow trends have followed suit, with fluffy, brushed-up (verging on unruly) brows dominating on both the catwalks and our Instagram feeds. "I’ve definitely been using less in my brows and I know my clients have too,” says makeup artist and brow specialist Lucy Hart. "Brows are definitely a lot softer compared to previous years and I think for 2023, fluffy, natural brows are here to stay.” 

As far as experimentation goes, Hart predicts that bleached brows and the return of the skinny ‘90s brows are set to become a lot more mainstream in 2023. "Either way, brows are now all about looking low maintenance (even if they’re not) and not too ‘put together’,” she adds. "There’s an anything goes approach these days which means you can embrace your natural eyebrows and work with what you’ve got or what you know suits you, rather than committing to a cookie cutter trend like the ‘Instagram brow’.”

1. Bleached Brows

While it’s bold in its own way, bleaching your brows is about as much of a backlash to the over-filled, stand-out brow trend of yesteryear as it’s possible to be, and celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Julia Fox, and Lady Gaga have already embraced the trend, which is a sure sign that it’s set to be huge in 2023. 

"Most people will be surprised by how good bleached brows actually look, but I would recommend experimenting with this look before taking the plunge,” says Hart. "There are already brands releasing products for this look and I expect we will see more launch throughout the year.”

2. Skinny '90s Brows

Skinny brows have made a remarkable comeback, but again, it’s not surprising given that this trend contrasts so much with brow looks that are now considered to be ‘out’. It also makes sense, given we’re seeing the resurgence of so many other Y2K trends from the 2000s, like glossy lips and French tip manicures.

"On a personal level, it’s a no from me, but I can see how they are making a comeback,” says Hart. "I would just warn people to be careful as brows make a face, and once you’ve plucked your brows thin, it’s hard to get them back.” That said, we’ve already seen icons like Rihanna, Alexa Demie, and Bella Hadid nail this trend. "The modern way to pull off this look is to follow your natural brow shape rather than making them too arched,” adds Hart.

3. Laminated Brows

Laminated brows are here to stay. The innovative technique is basically the eyebrow equivalent of a lash lift or perm. Brow hairs are relaxed and straightened then brushed up and set into place, resulting in a full and fluffy effect that lasts for about two months. "This is such a low maintenance treatment because once you’ve had it done, most people don’t even end up using any products in between bookings,” says Hart. "People often get scared by a brow lamination but I assure them they won’t be stuck to their head, and it’s possible to adapt the result to suit each individual.”

It’s also easy to achieve this look using makeup. Rather than using pencils and powders to fill in brows, instead look to more malleable formulas like gels and pomades, which allow you to sculpt hairs into the desired shape. When it comes to the trending brow shapes for 2023, Hart has already noticed an increase in clients asking for straighter brows. "Lily Collins is always the reference with this look,” she says. "She have very strong, straight brows which don’t really angle until the very end.”

If your brows aren’t naturally straight, it is still possible to create the illusion of straighter brows. First of all, don’t emphasise the arch. Instead, Hart advises using product (a fine-tipped pencil or powder works best) to fill in the arch from beneath the brow. Essentially, you want to extend the natural shape of the bottom of your brow in a straight line until it meets where you brow angles downwards.

5. No-Maintenance Brows

This is the category I (firmly) sit in. Ever since the pandemic put a stop to my bi-monthly threading appointments I’ve taken a much more low maintenance approach to my brows. I no longer care if they’re looking overly thick and instead I’ve learned to embrace their natural shape—enhanced with just a touch of clear brow gel, and I’ve started using brow serums to address the gaps in them that I used to fill in with pencil. "People are focusing more on using brow treatments that they can maintain their brows with rather than layering loads of products on,” says Hart. "I myself have super full brows so applying thick product is just not needed,” she adds. 

If you’re not yet ready to step away from your brow routine, just take a softer approach. "Try a skinny brow pencil if you’re into more definition but apply it super soft on the skin so you can build it gradually,” says Hart. "I’ll still sometimes use pomade for my clients but the tiniest bit ever on an angled brush to create hair-like strokes, and you can always use a spoolie to remove any access product.”

Your main goal is probably all about adding lift, volume, and movement in order to create the illusion of thicker hair, but it takes more than a little effort to maintain shape and prevent roots from falling flat.

Of course, as with any hair type, getting the right haircut for thin hair sets the best foundation for finding a foolproof hairstyle. So what kinds of cuts should thin hair types request from the hairdresser? "Shorter styles adding textured layers for lots of movement can help the hair to look thicker and give body,” advises hairstylist and content creator Holly Carr. "And mid-length styles with soft face shaping are great for adding soft waves and still being able to put up. If you have long hair then Carr recommends keeping the weight in the ends. "Blunt cuts can help to keep the ends looking thicker and healthier for longer.”

When it comes to styling, Carr recommends creating waves or curls to add fullness. "You can curl the hair underneath or bring just a couple of pieces around the ears forwards toward the face,” she says. "This creates the illusion of thicker hair around the neck and face.” And for those who prefer up-dos? "Textured hair ups are also great,” she adds. "Try lifting the hair at the crown for volume and at the sides for width while any loose pieces add detail.”

Those who know me will tell you I’m not very good at timekeeping. I am that friend who texts saying, "Sooo sorry. 3. REESE WITHERSPOON, APPLE WATCH

Style notes: I love Reese Witherspoon. I mean, honestly, who doesn't? Whilst I don't know her personally, she definitely seems like the type of person who always arrives three minutes early to any engagement and never fails to count her steps. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that she opts for an Apple Watch. To spoil yourself, go Hermès. But to channel Elle Woods? Opt for pink.

4. MIA REGAN, TAG HEUER AQUARACER

Style notes: Mia Regan has to be one of, if not the, coolest Gen Z people around. Whenever I see her show off a new outfit on TikTok, which is usually Y2K-inspired, I immediately open a tab and google where I can get it. In other words, whatever she wears, there's a high chance I'll want to wear it. Here, in Saint-Tropez, she wears TAG Heuer, and I can't get enough of how it matches the embellishments on her dress. Two points for coordination, Mia. 

5. JENNIFER LOPEZ, ROLEX DAY-DATE

Style notes: J.Lo on honeymoon in Paris has been possibly the celebrity moment of 2022. Whilst everyone was focussed on her take on French style, I was taking into account her accessories. Two of which happened to be a blue Birkin and a Rolex (ah, that classic combination). It goes without saying that Rolexes are the crème de la crème of the watch world, so one of these definitely makes the wish list. 

6. DINA ASHER-SMITH, HUBLOT CLASSIC FUSION

Style notes: You may be wondering, Does the fastest woman on record really need a watch? Of course she does! Dina Asher-Smith's Hublot Classic Fusion is perfect for those looking for a sportier timepiece. With a refined titanium face and rubber strap, it's less ostentatious than other styles, but as Asher-Smith demonstrates so well, all you need is a black gown, some spectacular jewels, a red carpet et voilà! It's fancy. 

7. JENNIFER ANISTON, CHOPARD EAGLE

Style notes: I can't get enough of Jennifer Aniston's effortless elegance. To me, she is the older sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley—a pioneer of the neutral palette and the OG when it comes to the noughties vest-top-and-cargo-pants look that we've all grown to love again. And is it just me, or do her characters all seem to resemble her in IRL? Here, she's snapped between takes on The Morning Show, and we're not sure if she's playing her character, Alex Levy, or just herself. Either way, I can't help but love this Chopard Eagle—a classic in the link-watch roster.

8. SIMONE ASHLEY, TAG HEUER CARRERA

Style notes: Bridgerton fans, take note! Actress Simone Ashley serves subtle sophistication with a classic TAG Heuer Carrera. Rihanna’s maternity outfits have been a hot topic of late on the WhatsApp group I share with my closest friends. I can’t speak from experience—pregnancy isn’t something I’ve experienced first-hand—but almost all of my friends who have carried a child have told me that one thing they didn’t necessarily expect was how their changing shapes and self-image affected their personal style.

Each confided in me how they didn’t feel like themselves when it came to maternity dressing and subsequently defaulted to elastic-waistband jeans and printed wrap dresses. Let it be known there’s absolutely nothing wrong with elastic-waistband jeans and printed wrap dresses, but if those pieces don’t fit in with your pre-pregnancy aesthetic, I can understand how it might feel as though you’re losing part of your sartorial identity. This is likely why my friends and I share mutual love and respect for Rihanna’s maternity outfits.

"I just love how she’s dressing for herself… Serving up the sort of looks we would ordinarily expect from RiRi,” one of my pals succinctly summarised. Rihanna has never been one to conform to any so-called fashion "rules,” which makes her one of the most exciting celebrity dressers out there. And her maternity looks are peak RiRi. Wearing everything from a sheer black lace-trimmed négligée and vinyl knee boots to Dior’s A/W 22 show to the low-slung jeans and belly chains she chose to announce her news in, Rihanna has chosen maternity outfits consistent with her back-catalogue of directional and bold and looks. While I doubt my expecting friends will reach for sexy lingerie for their next trip to Tesco, I believe that Rihanna’s influence will inspire not just those in my inner circle but anyone grappling with pregnancy dressing to embrace a maternity style that’s more intrinsically "them.”

This week has been the first time we could both ditch the coats and meet six people outside, marking the start of drinks-in-the-park season. At my park last night, people really dressed up for the occasion, wearing looks that you'd expect to see at a festival. It seems Rihanna has also missed dressing up, as she was pictured doing a grocery run in an outfit that screams, "It's summer!" She wore a printed colourful shirt with a jazzy palm-tree pattern, which is from the collaboration between Celine Homme and American artist Tyson Reeder. This print is actually a copy of one of his artworks called "Autobahn."

This isn't the only menswear item Rihanna added to the look, as she wore a pair of pink boxers by Erl that are visible underneath her ripped denim miniskirt. She then had fun with the accessories, wearing a pair of checkerboard Versace sunglasses and Amina Muaddi strappy heels with gold bangles around her ankles. G-strings… Remember them? They were an essential part of the noughties wardrobe, a vital yet teeny-tiny pillar of the support system in which our low-slung (probably laced-up) jeans could thrive, our handkerchief tops could be cut high to reveal plenty of stomach and hip, and our tight-fitting double-mesh dresses from Morgan could be as slinky as possible. The all-important thong rose to fashion fame partly out of necessity, but it was also a signifier of coolness—so much so that an exposed one (aka a "whale tail" as it was coined back then) was something to be proud of. The look was so desirable that key lingerie brands such as Gossard even created versions with little diamanté trims for the very purpose of them being seen.

It was a raunchy time for celebrity style—Christina Aguilera's chaps, Britney Spears's crystal bodysuits, and the many see-through dresses of British glamour girls—and the look did filter into the mainstream, albeit a slightly softer incarnation. But then, the inevitable trend buck came, and lingerie spun a 180º to revert back to bigger pants and more practical, comfortable options. To this day, VPLs are still not the sacrilegious faux pas they once were, and our butts are all the happier for it. 

But something unusual is afoot in the world of fashion. It looks like G-strings are back on the horizon in myriad forms and are already being adopted by A-listers, high-fashion designers, and influencers alike. This time, however, there's a significant difference: Many of the thongs we've noticed around the internet are actually attached to the clothes featured. It's like a sassy sibling to cut-out dresses, only you'll find the look across trousers, skirts, and jeans, too. It seems to be the absolute antithesis of the uniform we've come to adopt over the past year (trackies, puffer, chunky boots), but perhaps, that's the very reason this small tweak is taking off big time.

It's a design detail that certainly divides opinion, but with high-profile brands such as Givenchy and Versace backing the look for spring/summer 2021 and the idea already cropping up on our IG feeds, it would appear that stylish women across the globe are willing to give it a go. Hailey Bieber and Dua Lipa are two notable fans, but this isn't a trend reserved only for the rich and famous. Fashion insiders are keen to go there, too—take Camille Charriere's very elegant option of string-detailed trousers from Nensi Dojaka with a ribbed knit and Chanel bag. This particular pair of pants signals the fact that even more iterations are actually coming through from up-and-coming or cult-followed indie brands such as Surface TV, Dion Lee, and Supriya Lele, meaning the trend is reaching far and wide when it comes to its potential adopters.

While I personally find myself recoiling away from the look, Lauren Eggertsen, Who What Wear's senior fashion editor in the US, has been charting its rise for a few months now and feels compelled to experiment. "I love any trend that really pushes the boundaries and gets people talking. Therefore, I am all about this new thong movement," she tells me. "I will admit I was a little bit shocked to see how quickly it manifested amongst the influencer and celebrity crowd. This trend really is just a small detail tacked onto a garment, but it's one that speaks volumes, and that's why I love it."

When we crowdsourced a response from our followers on Instagram last week, over 2000 readers responded with their initials thoughts on this controversial trend. The verdict wasn't entirely clear-cut, but an overwhelming 89% were not for the idea this spring.

Should you be one of the 11% who are interested, Lauren has some styling advice for you: "I really think it will come down to the garment. I love the idea of wearing a dress with this trend incorporated into it for a more formal occasion like Dua Lipa, but I also fancy a casual pants version with a baby tee and Converse."

How the G-String Trend Looks in 2021

For spring/summer 2021, Versace's beachy collection sliced up its black dresses and skirts to feature cut-out sides.

Hailey Bieber was onto this trend perhaps before the rest of the world, wearing this naughty-nice pink gown to the Met Gala in 2019.

Dua Lipa is the most recent star to hop aboard the thong train, choosing this "naked" black dress for a recent holiday.

Model Bella Coheen takes a matchy-matchy approach with her triangle top.

We've noticed a correlating offshoot of this trend for wearing high-cut bodysuits or high-cut knickers with low-slung bottoms. Model Duckie Thot is often first onto a trend, so consider this a heads up.

This all-leather look from Dion Lee's S/S 21 collection manages to be casual yet entirely provocative all at once.

Here's Hailey again, this time trying out a different idea for size. What better way to make a baggy tracksuit stand out, hey?

Lizzo is the queen of many things, but she's also consistently leading the way for radical fashion trends. Her black criss-cross number is the kind of cut-out-style dress I've seen more and more of over the past few months.

Halle Berry's criss-crossed pink and red mini was the perfect look-at-me choice for an event like the MTV Movie Awards. Classic 2000s.

Britney Spears's hip-grazing trousers often featured little cut-out details like this.

Ah, the halcyon days of Jordan and Peter! Many a star opted for see-through frocks around this time—it was a sure-fire way to get noticed and a perfect canvas for a trending thong.

It's 2002, and Bai Ling is wearing all the hallmarks of a noughties outfit, including the number one shoe choice, cowboy boots.

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson's It-girl ensembles always left an impact.

When Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in September 2017, it made a huge impact on the beauty industry. The singer’s expansion into skincare may not come as a huge surprise to some hardcore fans out there. Rumours have been circulating since Rihanna applied for a trademark early last year which gave us the first clues as to what might be involved. The application cited "medicated and non-medicated skincare, soap, bodycare and personal care products… and related accessories such as kits, tools and applicators.” But now, the wait is finally over.

Rihanna said in a post to the brand’s Instagram page, "‪I’ve been working on @fentyskin for over two years, perfecting formulas and creating packaging that is kind to our planet!! Formulas that work, and work well with makeup!!! Everything starts with the foundation that is your skin and we all know how obsessed I am with beautiful, healthy skin—so whether you want to wear makeup or no makeup at all, there’s always glowing skin underneath” which sounds like she’s sticking to her formula-led, no-nonsense style. Plus sustainable packaging? We’re sold. 

From recent videos posted on social media, it looks likely there will at least be a foamy cleanser, serum and moisturiser in the mix. The other big piece of news we know, although it shouldn’t come as a surprise, is that Rihanna is planning on shaking up the game again with her products being aimed at both women and men.

She’s even got ASAP Rocky and Lil Nas X starring in the launch campaign. Replying to a fan on Twitter, she said: "Whoever told you skincare has a gender, lied to you!” Those shared-bathroom cabinets are about to get a lot more streamlined and we are absolutely okay with it. There haven't been many calls for elaborate footwear during the pandemic. Many of us—and I realise I'm generalising here—spent lockdown and the ensuing lack of socialising in Birkenstocks and joggers. Even now, with the restrictions lifted, we are in full glam mode, taking any opportunity—wedding or Waitrose run—to look our most extra.

Amina Muaddi's high-octane heels have been a hit among celebrities and fashion influencers alike, and when the brand launched a capsule collection with MyTheresa in March, just as the whole world pretty much retreated to their homes, it sold out immediately. 

So what's the secret to the brand's success? For starters, there's the aforementioned A-list endorsement. When Rihanna and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley are wearing the very same thing on repeat, the world pays attention—especially when it comes to shoes. Both are known as being early trend adopters, each with a keen eye for detail, quality and straight-up glamour. And if you need further proof, Rihanna has even collaborated with the brand for Fenty. 

Amina Muaddi is the Paris-based, Italian-raised designer behind her eponymous brand and has long been one of our favourite Italian influencers to watch out for at fashion week. Often spotted alongside the equally alluring designer duo behind The Attico, Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini, Muaddi always balances playfulness with a sense of drama and sophistication. So the growing cult popularity of her shoe brand—inspired by her rather fabulous-looking life and the tastemakers she's met along the way—is no surprise.

Muaddi has been on the fashion scene for a while, but she only went solo with her shoe brand a few years ago. Growing up in Italy was always an inspiration for Muaddi to want to design shoes, but she first sought out a career working at magazines—an invaluable network for any fledgling designer. She attended the European Institute of Design and worked as a stylist at L’Uomo Vogue and GQ, ensuring she understood the world of fashion before completely fulfilling her dream.

In pursuit of following in the legendary footsteps of footwear designers like Manolo Blahnik, Muaddi travelled to Italy’s famous shoe-making district, Riviera del Brenta, to learn the trade and co-founded her first brand, Oscar Tiye. Following that, Muaddi then moved to Paris, where she collaborated with French couturier Alexandre Vauthier on the launch of his shoe line. It is this mix of traditional training, exposure to fashion's most influential and general worldly taste that laid the foundation for her personal expression through her own line of shoes.

Muaddi continues to work alongside the designer, but it has been the launch of her own line that is spreading like wildfire amongst the fashion crowd and celebrity elite. Described as shoes that can go "from 9 to midnight," the sharp design allows for the frivolity of feathers, sparkles and prints to maintain a luxurious feel. With her own label, Muaddi has found the freedom to create a silhouette in her heels that is now instantly recognisable: The heels of her shoes flare out to create a unique architectural effect but also an extremely comfortable base.

It's this silhouette, most famously associated with the Gilda mules, that has gained cult status, and Muaddi now counts multiple celebs (including Dua Lipa, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and Huntington-Whiteley) among her repeat customers. She has limited stock on her e-commerce site, but she works closely with the buyers at the ultra-cool London boutique Browns Fashion.

Not only are the shoes cult favourites, celebrity-adored and Instagram-approved, but they're also (according to multiple sources) extremely easy to wear all day, despite their height. In 2019, the quest for glowy skin and makeup is real, and as a beauty editor, it's one of the things I'm asked most often about. I always say that if you're intimated by colour, you should start off with a bright lip first. Once you get comfortable with that, you can start amping it up a bit more—brighter colours like Flamingo Acid will be perfect for the summer! Oh my gosh, there are so many! I loved Rih's look for the Fenty Beauty launch event. The look was so iconic and absolutely stunning with the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife. Another favourite was the one-year anniversary event in Sephora inside JCPenney this past September. We used the Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil and she was bathing in 3D sparkle. It was just gorgeous! She's like a chameleon. Every look I do on her just looks so different. I'm always excited for what's next.

I recently took a couple of warm-weather trips to Mexico and then Los Angeles, both of which offer a significant beach culture. But in my opinion, that doesn't make it a good idea to consistently wear the controversial sandal style that I kept seeing on people's feet during my travels. If you're thinking flip-flops, we're on the same page. What kills me is that there are so many shoe styles out there that are just as easy and comfortable as flip-flops but are significantly more protective of your feet.

I wanted to know how flip-flops rank on the airport practicality spectrum, so I reached out to the experts themselves and chatted to TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein and Delta travel agent Stacey Townsend. Farbstein pointed out that while you can certainly wear flip-flops to an airport, "even though they are thin-soled, they still will need to be removed at the TSA checkpoint, which typically means bare feet on the floor." So making the security process easier certainly isn't a valid reason to wear them.

Townsend told me, "flip-flops are great to slide on to head down to the pool, but as a flight attendant, they are not my footwear of choice when exploring a new city. They offer no support, which is basically my worry." I asked what she thought of wearing them to the airport and flying in them, to which she responded, "I mean, it's sort of gross. There's so much bacteria. Wearing flip-flops, you can get blisters and then bacteria can get into your feet." Yikes, right?

So with that in mind, here are six celebrity-approved shoes that are far more sensible for the airport. See which celebs travel in them and shop the styles below.

What do Meghan Markle, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, a host of the globe’s leading influencers and every fashion girl under the sun all have in common? Some may literally have the world at their feet, but all of them are as keen on wearing the same shoes from the same designer as the next.

The traditional "naked dress"—as beloved of honed-and-toned celebs everywhere for the past decade, like Beyoncé pictured below—may be on its way out, and I'm pretty pleased about the whole thing. As with all major trends, this cycle appears to have run its course, and the idea of those uncomfortable-looking, artfully placed crystals and embroidered details layered onto nude dancer-style mesh now verges on cheap, tacky and ubiquitous, despite the original designer versions being incredibly intricate and expensive.

Imagine I'm the next J.Lo for a second, if you will, and it seems far cooler in 2018 to do conceal/reveal in a subtler or even a more eccentric way. Rihanna—ever the trailblazer—has been one of the women at the forefront of this revised "naked dress" trend. She was first in the celebrity world to cotton onto the frothy fabulous tulle creations of London-based designer and recent Vogue Fashion Fund winner Molly Goddard, and none of us will ever forget her Swarovski-studded moment at the CFDA Awards back in 2014.

Recently though it seems like another see-through dress trend has captured the imaginations of all kinds of A-listers from Olivia Palermo to Kim Kardashian West. Fueled by Goddard and the likes of Virgil Abloh at Off-White, the extreme tulle dress is taking centre stage. Rather than the nude skin-tone meshes of the past and rather than being bodycon and super-restrictive, these are bright, fun dresses one can eat a bowl of pasta in and then have a really good dance/Boomerang session—priorities for any girl living her best life.

The new wave is often seen in a different light also: Look at Off-White's styling strategy for these '80s-inspired tulle explosions (that reminded me of a particularly memorable Viktor and Rolf moment from S/S 10) and you'll see these fairy-like frocks being styled over cycling shorts or bright trousers for a more casual outcome. At Paris Fashion Week last night, Rihanna created her own college, Fenty University, to stage her fourth Fenty collection for Puma. Models walked in between lockers in varsity sweatshirts, rugby crop tops and preppy plaid, but as ever, Rihanna's own final-bow outfit was as much a talking point as the actual collection.

She wore a Fenty tee with a gigantic lime-green fuzzy dressing gown–style coat—her take on sloppy student dressing. You might think that Rihanna is the only person on the planet who would consider wearing a bathrobe out of the house, however global fashion search engine Lyst yesterday informed us that bathrobe coats are one of the most surprising micro-trends of the year. 

According to Lyst, searches for bathrobes have increased by 41% in the last two months, and the item with the most page views isn't a dressing gown–style coat but an actual (now sold-out) bathrobe by Joules. Lyst reveals that sales peaked at the start of February for The Row's Hooded Lamb Shearling Belted Coat, which sold out after Lily James was spotted wearing it. Perhaps sofa-ready dressing isn't so surprising, given that at this time of the year all we want to do is hibernate.
