I'm in meetings with stylish fashion editors every day, so you can be sure I'm always paying attention to the outfits sweeping through the office. As a devoted denim wearer, I'm particularly attuned to the shoe trends people are pairing with their jeans, and recently I've noticed a common thread amongst some of the chicest women I work with.

Rather than reaching for classic kitten heels or dependable ballet flats, they're styling their jeans with peep-toe heels. After spotting the pairing repeatedly at home, I started noticing it elsewhere, too. Most recently, Olivia Rodrigo stepped out in L.A. wearing Ray-Ban sunglasses and low-rise jeans with the once-controversial shoe style, cementing its return.

Long swerved for its toe-baring finish, the divisive shoe is finally making a confident comeback. In fact, some of the season's most talked-about shoe trends are those that spark the strongest reactions. And from what I'm seeing, the most stylish people are firmly on board.

Offering a fresh way to elevate jeans, after seeing how chic they look on the women inspiring me most, I'll be taking their lead and wearing mine with denim all season long. If you're thinking the same, read on to shop my edit of the best pairs below.

Olivia Rodrigo has become somewhat of an Anglophile in recent years. (As she said in a recent profile, “I love everything English, English culture and English people…”) So, it should come as no surprise that she stepped out in a quintessential ensemble that Londoners have been wearing for decades during a recent visit to the city.

Whilst promoting her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, the musician paid a visit to the Capital Radio studios wearing a silhouette that stylish denizens like Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Victoria Beckham have all previously sported.

The look in question featured a floral-print Henley tank by Chemena Kamali for Chloe’s recent spring/summer 2026 collection—a panoply the singer has regularly worn, including during the Marie Antoinette-inspired music video for the record’s first lead single “Drop Dead”—a pair of black Levi’s jeans and the Coach Swing Zip bag. However, what piqued our interest most wasn’t this reliable outfit template, but the elevated shoe choice she paired these British staples with.

Rather than embracing the romantic undertones of the botanical top by styling it with ballet flats or leaning into the edgy undertones of her cigarette trousers with a pair of sturdy boots, she eschewed both modes entirely by opting for a pair of chic pointed-toe heels.

For the uninitiated, the rise of the casual heel has slowly become one of the most defining summer shoe trends, with influential Los Angelinos like Devon Lee Carlson, Addison Rae and Hailey Bieber all opting for sky-high styles to complete their jeans looks. Given that Rodrigo herself is a California cool girl, it’s only fitting that she brings this trend across the pond whilst also paying homage to the British tastemakers that came before her.

As summer’s breezy climate invites us to slow down, unwind and wear fewer layers, enhancing your trusted denim styles with a sleek and elongating shoe choice feels not only sophisticated, but incredibly relevant. So, be it slingbacks, peep toes or pointed-toe heels, these inch-adding shapes will be the perfect complement to your arsenal of trusted stovepipes and straight-legs. Famed photographer Bill Cunningham once quipped that “fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life”. How this actually transpires looks different from one person to the next. However, whilst performing a slew of records from her discography in celebration of them hitting one billion streams on Spotify during an exclusive concert in Barcelona, Olivia Rodrigo proved that whatever sartorial protection one equips themselves with will always spark discourse.

For the uninitiated, the “Drop Dead” singer chose a perfectly innocuous ensemble that’s in line with her all-American girl-grown-up stage persona—a hand-embellished puff-sleeved top from emerging fashion brand Génération78 that she wore as a babydoll dress and a pair of leather Dr Martens that laced up to her knees.

It’s a silhouette that the songstress has sported many times and personifies the cinematic and stylistic influences that inspire her sonic identity. (Including, but not limited to, Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, Riot Grrrl bands like Bikini Kill and Princess-core tropes like chintzy tiaras and vintage saccharine minis from the likes of Todd Oldham and Blumarine.)

Immediately, her autonomy to wear this sweet, floral-adorned and jewel-encrusted thigh-grazer with matching bloomers was irrevocably revoked. Some dubbed it as “infantilising” whilst others were scandalised by the idea that an adult woman would choose to wear something she herself felt comfortable, confident and in line with her creative vision in front of her teenage fanbase. But there’s more to this babydoll dress than meets the eye, with the ethereal and coquettish silhouette a harbinger of rebellion, subversion and anti-establishment of the punk persuasion.

Indeed, this undermining of traditionally feminine tropes has been happening for decades, with the most pronounced disruptions from the likes of Courtney Love and Kat Bjelland. As with anything in fashion, once a trend begins to bubble up in a subculture—in this case, the ‘90s Pacific Northwest grunge and Californian rock scenes—it’s soon thrust into the mainstream. Soon, Marc Jacobs was designing a slew of babydoll dresses during his time at Perry Ellis that not only encouraged these aesthetic sensibilities, but literally outfitted those who wanted in on the trend.

Naturally, in the decades that followed, the style that once began as a cost-saving measure during the ‘40s—the style’s creator, Sylvia Pedlar, was encouraged to trim metres of her nightgowns during wartime fabric rations—became ubiquitous and a part of the cultural landscape in its own right.

In the past spring/summer 2026 season alone, many prolific designers who explore themes of girlhood, from Miuccia Prada to Chemena Kamali at Chloé, all presented varying interpretations of the shape. Elsewhere, many contemporary brands rooted in a dreamlike nostalgia and romanticism, including Dôen, Faithfull and If Only If, have made babydoll dresses a signature part of their brand identities. So, if wearing one is supposed to be this depraved act, why are they just so darling?

If anything, the overarching lesson to be gleaned from this palaver is that, subconsciously or not, this summer is set to be the season of the babydoll dress. Whether worn in overt retaliation to the criticism or proud defence of an innocuous shape, this style demands to be seen. And with Rodrigo’s new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, on its way, it feels like the perfect backdrop to this phase of wearing whatever you want, how you want, lace-embellishments and all.

From an abundance of vintage, archival pieces (Chanel's Ladybug heels are my newest fixation) to easy-breezy linen ensembles perfect for the summer heatwave I’m manifesting, my mood board is a style treasure trove. Scrolling through recently, I came to a realisation that almost every single post centres around the outfit of a Gen Z It girl.

Celebrity event wardrobes are full to the brim with enviable fashion finds, and whilst our lives couldn’t be more different (I’m unlikely to headline a tour or host Saturday Night Live any time soon), when you look at their off-duty personal style, it couldn’t feel more… normal. Style Notes: Billie Eilish’s summer style might not be for you; however, we at Who What Wear UK think it's high time we give the singer her flowers for being unapologetically herself. With layered tees and oversized silhouettes becoming Billie's brand signature, this look (pictured above) from her press junket for Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour feels decidedly fresh. Be it the divisive lace-detail Prada pumps or the knee-grazing pleated skirt with stockings, it's a look I can already see being re-created by her nonconformist fans.

Style Notes: For the stylish Gen Zer, it's impossible to find a celebrity It girl as influential as Kylie Jenner. The youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan has been making waves since the "King Kylie" era (who else could convince a generation of pre-teens that all you need is a lip kit to look like her). Having now evolved from her skinny-jeans-and-logo-mania days, today, her summer style is all about bodycon separates and a cute colour palette. Looking for a casual 'fit for weekends? Try yellow jeans, a white tank top and Maison Margiela ballet flats that are more fun than trainers.

9. Manon Bannerman

Style Notes: Since rising to fame in Netflix’s Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE, Manon Bannerman is the new name on everyone's lips. From her surprise appearance PinkPantheress’s set during Coachella Music Festival 2026 (alongside Chase Infiniti and Slayyyter) to fronting campaigns for brands like Versace, Saint Laurent, and Levi's, she's quickly become a celebrity Gen Z It girl to watch. Whilst she does hyper-glam impeccably well, it's the pared-back looks on her Instagram that have our full attention. Blending ‘90s minimalism with a Y2K edge, we’ve been loving the distressed minis and vintage leathers that are the foundation of her best summer looks.

Alexa Chung is stylish year-round, but I have to say, when she touches down for Paris Fashion Week, her outfits seem to reach their peak. Attending the Chloé A/W '26 runway show this week, Chung skipped over last spring’s favourite shade of butter yellow and instead stepped out in the prettiest wash of pink.

Opting for a lighter shade with a soft peach undertone, Chung tapped into one of the chicest ways to wear the sugary shade right now. Her gently draped dress, which fell just to the knee, featured contrast white lace trims and a delicate bow embellishment, adding a romantic, vintage feel to the summery dress. Styled with light beige heels, the outfit felt fresh, polished and spring-ready, and inspired me to rethink my own spring palette.

Attending the same show, Olivia Rodrigo stepped out in the very same peachy-pink tone, doubling down on the shade that’s quickly emerging as one to watch for the season ahead.

Unlike butter yellow—which, whilst joyful, can feel a touch too bright for those with a more pared-back approach to summer dressing—this softer pink reads more like a neutral. Its muted peach undertone makes it far easier to weave into an everyday wardrobe. It works beautifully worn head-to-toe in tonal layers, but looks equally chic styled with blue denim or rich grey shades for contrast.

While last year’s spring palette leaned a little more vibrant, I have a feeling it will be this more grown-up take on pink that truly takes off this season.

If you’re looking to refresh your spring denim rotation, I have just one recommendation: cigarette jeans. After seasons dominated by puddling hems and ultra-baggy silhouettes, the pendulum is swinging back, and slim-fitting, slightly cropped cigarette jeans are reclaiming their place as the fashion person's favourite.

Streamlined, but not fussy, this neater silhouette is easier to dress up than slouchy styles, whilst also lending itself to a broader range of occasions. Making my case, Olivia Rodrigo was spotted out this week in a mid-blue pair cropped just above the ankle, cut in a clean stovepipe fit, which she wore styled simply with a white T-shirt layered beneath a black fur-trimmed jacket.

Of course, it was her footwear choice that really caught my eye. Rather than reaching for trainers or barely-there heels, Rodrigo grounded her jeans with glossy black square-toe boots. The structured shape bridged the flash of skin that the cropped hemline would otherwise reveal, creating a smooth, uninterrupted line from hip to toe. The squared finish, meanwhile, added a directional edge that round or pointed styles just can’t quite replicate.

While temperatures are still lingering on the chilly side (and my sandals remain firmly boxed away), square-toe boots feel like the most elegant partner for cigarette jeans right now. If there was one phrase to sum up the past year, it would be the title of Charli XCX and Caroline Polacheck’s 2024 single, “Everything Is Romantic”. The song, which was featured in the teaser trailer for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, croons about falling in love again and again and has since gone viral on social media after its initial release on the British singer’s magnum opus album, Brat.

Love, clearly, is in the air, and given this collective mood coincides with Who What Wear UK’s 10th anniversary celebration, there’s never been a better time to look back on the stylish pairings that best embrace this. Indeed, there have been countless best-dressed celebrity couples vying for the crown throughout the course of our small but mighty history. Here on home soil, we have duos like Sienna Miller and Oli Green, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Jason Statham and Alexa Chung and Tom Sturridge, all of whom make London’s vibrant fashion scene all the more exciting when they step out.

Across the pond, there are established relationships like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce and Lily-Rose Depp and 070 Shake, who prove that affairs of the heart are closely intertwined with those of the style variety. Of course, there are also emerging love stories, like the one between Lana Del Rey and alligator wrangler husband Jeremy Dufrene or Bella Hadid and her real-life cowboy Adan Banuelos, who constantly keep us on our toes with the way they radically dress to their own accord for their outings. She wears Pieter Mulier’s Alaïa, vintage Gucci by Tom Ford, and Bottega Veneta borrowed from her boyfriend’s closet. Their children even wear custom Jonathan Anderson for Dior children’s suits. A date night for this couple includes heading to the annual Met Gala and flaunting their excellent taste at Santa Monica’s star-studded Italian restaurant, Giorgio Baldi. The rapper and the self-proclaimed bad gal Riri really do it like no other.

Style Notes: Posh and Becks have a relationship straight out of a British fairytale. But instead of star-crossed lovers and evil step-mothers, you have an upstart Premier League star from Manchester, a global pop sensation from nearby Essex and a love that’s spanned over twenty years. Throughout each decade, they’ve brought their own respective taste to the relationship, from her Spice Girls-era little black dresses to his Real Madrid-days frosted tips and her WAG-inspired bleached extensions and Hermès Birkins. Bridging both old and new media, David and Victoria Beckham have always mastered matching one another’s sartorial energies. Though they’ve since levelled up from being the front pages of tabloid rags to helming their own documentary series chronicling their respective lives and legacies, the Beckhams have always used fashion to their advantage, making them the exemplar of a modern power couple.

Style Notes: Zoë Kravitz and Harry Styles might be the most nascent couple on this list, however, the short span of their relationship should in no way disregard the countless displays of harmonious style. The actress and the musician began casually dating back in August after the pair were caught strolling arm and arm by onlookers. They’ve since taken their tryst international following on from this soft launch, showing up in Rome, New York and London to parade both their burgeoning romance and matching pieces from The Row. Serving as a modern equivalent is none other than George and Amal Clooney. The couple make every red carpet they appear on quite a moment, from the human rights barrister’s custom Versace looks whilst in Venice to the Academy Award-winner’s Giorgio Armani suits. The Texan-born star has recently stolen the spotlight thanks to his work with Yorgos Lanthimos, making every outing one that’s glamorous, gothic and a little alternative.

If there's one fashion trend that can carry over from the beaten fields of Glastonbury to the manicured lawns of Wimbledon, it's a gingham dress. At once playful and polished, classic yet carefree, it might just be the most versatile dress trend out there right now.

Proving its wide-ranging appeal, I spotted the silhouette twice in one week—on Daisy Edgar-Jones and Olivia Rodrigo, styled for two completely different occasions.

Selecting a sadly sold out Reformation minidress in a black and white gingham print, Edgar-Jones embraced the trend in the most Glastonbury way: teamed with white socks and Hunter wellies. She layered on a pair of dark sunglasses, but otherwise kept her styling simple, as this pretty dress trend instils enough interest to hold its own without the need for excess accessories.

Spotted just days later, Rodrigo shuffled through the crowds at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in the same pretty dress trend. Choosing a summery cut in a vibrant red shade, Rodrigo's dress featured button fastening and neat collar design, contributing a poised and preppy element to the classic motif. Sticking to a tonal palette, Rodrigo reached for a red suede bag and layered her look with tortoise-shell sunglasses. Also choosing to forgo extra accessories, Rodrigo let her pretty dress trend carry her look.

Even the mention of someone wearing jeans to the airport, especially for a long-haul flight, is enough to set people off. I get it, and there are certain denim styles I wouldn't be caught dead in near TSA either. At the same time, not all jeans are created equal, and some can be just as roomy and comfortable as sweatpants and have a far more put-together appearance. For a celebrity like Olivia Rodrigo, who expects to be photographed at the exit of every airport they visit, I can understand swapping out joggers for an equally spacious (but still on-trend) pair of barrel-leg jeans, which Rodrigo did for her most recent flight into JFK. I don’t know about you, but with summer’s sunniest days showing up more regularly, I’m feeling newly inspired to revisit my wardrobe and make a few seasonal swaps. My first port of call? Introducing some colour. The easiest way to refresh an outfit, I've found myself more receptive to a wash of yellow or a flash of pink than ever before, but the colour trend that's had the biggest impact on my wardrobe has to be blue.

Take Olivia Rodrigo, for example. Stepping out in Adidas's trending Tokyo trainers in a bright blue hue, she bypassed classic white and even trending yellow versions in favour of something more unexpected—a smart way to add interest to her casual jeans.

Meanwhile, Dakota Johnson was also spotted leaning into the look, pairing her chunky blue trainers with a tonal blue jumper and sleek black leggings. A roomy Gucci Gigilo tote (her new go-to) and a dark baseball cap gave were also noteworthy points, but having clocked the blue trainer trend already, my mind instantly zeroed in on her footwear choice.

Attending the launch party for her new Marks and Spencer X Sienna Miller capsule collection—set to launch online and in-store on October 31—Sienna Miller stepped out in central London last night carrying the specific bag trend I've seen celebrities reach for more than any other this season.

Whilst brown suede bags and bowling styles have roused attention so far this season, it's the animal-print bag trend that celebrities are putting their money behind right now.

Adored by Miller, who carried a rich brown zebra-print clutch for the evening event, the maximalist-approved accessory was neatly tucked underneath her arm and worn with a white three-piece suit and black satin heels. Adding a playful pop of print without dominating nor overwhelming her look, Miller's sleek pouch affirmed her excellent eye for style hasn't gone anywhere.

Far from the only celebrity to showcase the growing trend, I've also seen Kate Moss with animal-print bags on several occasions this year. Often favouring a fun leopard-print bag—as she has done since the '90s—Moss has utilised a feline-print bag to add interest and dimension to her casual outfits, all whilst retaining her famously effortless edge.

Transcending style crowds this season, singer Olivia Rodrigo was also spotted out and about with a sleek zebra-print bag over her shoulder. Wearing hers with a V-neck knit, brown miniskirt and a pair of tan boots, Rodrigo testified to the outfit-enhancing ability of the bag trend.

Hailey Bieber has woven it into her wardrobe too, pairing her Saint Laurent leopard-print tote with a matching coat. All in all, the celebrity style set has officially confirmed that the animal-print bag trend is one of the most important of the season.

Instilling retro energy into everyday looks—the trend was a mainstay in the wardrobes of celebrities across the '90s and early '00s—2024's revival of the trend has seen animal-print bags styled with similarly low-key looks that feel modern thanks to this key addition.

With varying levels of sheer to choose from, it's no wonder celebs are stocking up on the winter staple from this Italian lingerie site.

Jennifer Lawrence's closet is filled with brands like The Row and Toteme, so it's telling when she still reaches for an affordable pair of sneakers from Adidas. Each generation has its defining beauty moments. Being born in 1994, I grew up during the era when thin eyebrows were the look du jour, and as we approached the 2010s, I witnessed—and experienced—the browscape morph into HD brows (which, let's be honest, wasn't great either) before we finally settled on a happy medium of growing back our eyebrows, putting down the brow pomade and leaving our brows well alone (thanks, Glossier Boy Brow, for the support). Now, with TikTok beauty booming and Gen Z celebrities such as Sophia Richie Grainge, Zendaya and Charithra Chandran stepping on the scene, it's safe to say we're entering a new era of beauty.

Gen Z makeup trends are big news right now. But rather than trends being set in stone, this time around, it's more of a mood, explains Chanel makeup artist Anna Payne. "Gen Z are all about creating an attitude rather than a full studied look. They're using makeup as a form of expression and changing their makeup looks daily to suit their mood. It's about enjoying being who you are and celebrating it, not trying to change it," she says.

Indeed, we've seen so many versions of Gen Z makeup. Whether it's full-on glam "night luxe" or "clean girl" beauty, the beauty rule book is being rewritten. To investigate further, we spoke to some of the top makeup artists about the top Gen Z makeup trends and the best products to get the look.

1. Glazed Skin

It's official: Hydrated, glowing skin is here to stay. "Skin is incredibly important," says Payne. "Emphasis is on showing off texture and freckles rather than covering them up. Multitasking products are key to this. They need something that's going to work hard. Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint is perfect. It can be used precisely where it's needed to cover any redness or imperfections, still allowing the true skin texture to shine through."

"Once your skin is looking amazing, you can add a bold colourful eye, geometric shapes or crystallised liner, and because the skin is so raw, the contrast gives an air of nonchalance and effortlessness that Gen Z are after," adds Payne. We love this glowing-skin look on Hailey Bieber.

2. "Clean Girl" Makeup

You can't go on TikTok without being presented with the "clean girl" aesthetic. This makeup look builds on glowing skin, but the rest of the makeup is kept minimal. Think a subtle brown eye shadow swept along the lash line and into a diffused wing, a slick of mascara and glossy lips.

3. Night Luxe Glam

Night luxe is the antithesis of clean girl beauty. It's about getting dressed up, going out and staying out late. In line with this mood and the popularity of makeup looks from Euphoria, we're seeing many celebs embracing metallic eye shadow, smokey eyes and lashings of mascara. Full-on glam is back once again. 

Semi-sheer washes of metallic eye shadow add a twinkle when placed in the inner corners of the eyes.

4. Sun-Kissed Blusher

Blusher has been making a big comeback, particularly among Gen Z. This time, though, it's all about the placement. Rather than just applying it to your cheeks, Gen Z sweep it onto the high points of the cheekbones and adds a light touch onto the nose to tie the look together, resulting in a naturally sun-kissed effect. Think the slight flush you might get on your skin after sitting in the sun for the afternoon.

Olivia Rodrigo's blusher is applied high onto the cheekbones with a dusting on the nose, too. Makeup artist Lilly Keys created this look for Rodrigo at this year's Grammys. "I combined together Cloud Paint in both Beam and Storm and blended onto the apples of the cheeks very lightly, using small circular motions with a fluffy brush, adding a tiny bit to the bridge of the nose for that sun-kissed, healthy glow," she says.

5. Graphic Liner

"One of the biggest trends being seen currently is graphic eye liner," notes Dominic Skinner, global senior artist at MAC Cosmetics. "However, it's uncomplicated and fuss-free. It's applied like an afterthought, though. That's what you're meant to believe. The key is to keep it simple by using pencils, but make it strong, intense and visible no matter what colour you use," he says.

We love a hint of blue, particularly on brown eyes.
