There's no getting around the fact that we've all dramatically reduced the amount of time we're spending outside, so it's pretty interesting to note that global fashion search platform Lyst has revealed that trainers are the top-performing category worldwide right now. Over the past 15 days, there has been a growing demand for sneakers, and there are five styles in particular that people are after the most.

The five most-searched-for styles right now include Converse high-top sneakers, New Balance 530, Golden Goose Superstar, Balenciaga Track sneakers and Off-White Vulcanized sneakers. Despite the fact that we'll only be using these shoes to carry out our one bit of exercise a day, they'll still be the most important item we'll invest in right now. We're pretty savvy about knowing which kind of shoes people want. Right now, for example, we know that readers of Who What Wear love strappy sandals from Topshop, and these ballet flats from Marks & Spencer—our stats don't lie. We also know that when it comes to sneakers, Vejas are super popular, and Tevas are the comfy sandals of choice for our fashion friends on Instagram.

But when I spoke to Lyst, the global fashion search platform, none of the above styles or brands were mentioned. Where recently it's been all about simple shoes that work with everything in your wardrobe, Lyst revealed that the most-searched-for shoe brands throughout June were Gucci, Soludos, Guiseppe Zanotti, Off-White and Saint Laurent. And honestly, I'm shocked. Instead of being classic styles that would be considered wardrobe staples, most of the shoes were quite divisive and trend-led. 

Starting with the most "fashion" of the shoes was Off-White's fun Zip Tie Jelly Pumps. The blue stilettos feature a red zip tie where a buckle might usually be. They might be archetypal Virgil Abloh, but they're hardly classic closet fodder. Then there are the snake strap shoes from Guiseppe Zanotti. While this brand is popular among the A-list (Rosie Hungtington-Whiteley regularly wears the stilettos), it's still a more standout look from the label.

Next up are the platform sliders from Gucci and the cactus-embroidered Saludos espadrilles. The least controversial sandals came from Saint Laurent in the form of the flat black Nu Pieds style. In fact, every A/W 16 press day we go to, buyers are singing the praises of Abloh's unisex-friendly bombers, bikers, jeans and sweatshirts, but he does also have a dedicated women's line under the Off-White umbrella. So while his current fan club is predominantly male and highly snobby about their garms, you can bet your bottom dollar cool girls the globe over will be wearing his wares come fashion week time in September.

Yes, really. So aside from the marketing genius that is KW, Virgil is the man behind many a Yeezy success story. Combined, these two certainly know the power of a brand's image and signatures—something that Off-White has also mastered in the instantly recognisable barcode-like stripes emblazoned across anything and everything, from silver-foil anoraks to fuzzy backpacks.

With over 537k followers on his personal Instagram account (@virgilabloh), and over 362k on Off-White's brand account (@off____white), Virgil's reach is very big. Plus, he spends a lot of time on social media, so there's always something new to discover via his experiences.

Of course he does! Abloh told GQ that his version of Louis Vuitton is cult-favourite streetwear label Supreme. But we're pretty certain he's got plenty of Vuitton in that wardrobe too…

Travelling from city to city, Abloh's schedule of DJing and designing is understandably chock-full. But he keeps in touch with his super-fans on Instagram (@virgilabloh) and is apparently addicted to Whatsapp.
