Recently one of our favourite L.A. fashion girls spent the last few days of New York Fashion week, attending events. Of course, with her came a handful of awe-worthy ensembles, each one better than the next. There was the vintage Alaïa minidress she (and her stylist, Danielle Goldberg) styled alongside Manolo Blahnik heels for the Harper's Bazaar Icons Dinner, as well as the Kallmeyer miniskirt and tank she wore to the launch party for EE72 Magazine. At the end of the week, she got more casual (as we all did), donning a brown trench, navy sweater, and loose black trousers with Alaïa ballet flats. What did they all have in common? The Row's 90's Bag, a timeless and elegant staple in any fashion person's capsule handbag wardrobe.

Throughout the actress's trip, I spotted The Row's mini top-handle bag three times. Though there could easily be more that weren't photographed. New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2026 had officially wrapped up, and the beautiful weather in NYC meant the show attendees luckily had the freedom to wear their very best looks—sans concerns about puddles and umbrellas. While the runways have been filled with upcoming spring trends, the fashion crowd has been embracing all of the latest autumn/winter trends to view the collections over the past week.

I put my fashion-editor sleuthing skills to work and examined hundreds of outfit photos in search of the trends that popped up the most outside the spring/summer 2026 shows. 1. Checks, Please

Style Notes: Step aside, stripes and polka dots—the It classic print of autumn is plaid. The fashion crowd incorporated plaid into their NYFW wardrobes via shirts, skirts, dresses, and outerwear, giving their outfits a preppy-chic feel in every instance.

Style Notes: Of all the street style trends I spotted at this season's shows, romantic lace was probably the most prominent. Style Notes: For the past several seasons, there's been an It red piece, and the buzzy piece for autumn 2025 appears to be the red accent sweater. Style Notes: As I'm sure you recall, last year was all about leopard print. It's still very much a thing, but this autumn, all animal prints are on board. Style Notes: Flared skirts are lovely, but the trend all over the sidewalks of New York for the past several days has been column skirts. Think of them as longer pencil skirts. If you ask me, it's one of the chicest, most elegant trends of the season, and I love seeing how the show attendees styled them. (More often than not, it was with basics.)

Style Notes: The brown-outerwear trend of last autumn and winter is still alive and well, but the outerwear colour I saw again and again on the streets of NYFW was tan. Whether in the form of a trench, barn jacket, or bomber (to name a few), tan was everywhere I looked. Like brown, it's one of those outerwear colours that looks elegant no matter what you wear with it.

At first glance, the street style scene at this September’s New York Fashion Week felt distinctly familiar: polished denim, directional accessories and sharp tailoring.

But look a little closer and you’ll notice subtle styling shifts that signal where trends are heading right now. One of the most telling? The trade of big, boxy, double-breasted blazers for their sleeker, more refined counterpart: the single-breasted blazer. Spotted dashing across the streets of New York, I noticed actor Aubrey Plaza and model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley swapping the once non-negotiable boxy blazer for the chic, seasonal upgrade.

Aubrey, opting for a glossy leather iteration, styled hers with deep indigo jeans and tall patent boots. The longline, collarless cut tapped neatly into two of autumn’s other outerwear trends, whilst a black leather bag rounded her look off with a notably polished edge.

Meanwhile, Rosie styled her supple satin style blazer over a sheer chiffon blouse, pairing it with jeans and a sleek black clutch, creating a pared-back and sophisticated look that felt refreshingly unfussy for fashion week. Where boxy blazers brought volume and drama, these new single-breasted styles channel precision, polish and a refined '90s air. With neat silhouettes, button fastenings and collarless designs, they play directly into the sharp, minimalist mood that’s having a moment this season.

New York's A/W '24 Fashion Week has officially concluded and my mood board is once again brimming with styling inspiration—albeit for outfits a long way off yet. Outside of the runway shows that saw the country's best fashion names showcase wardrobe-altering designs for next winter, the city's chicest put on a mesmerising display of their own with looks that we don't have to wait for, but can actually start wearing now. Fitted out in the freshest trends as well as some undeniably classic pieces, New York Fashion Week's street style set exceeded the high expectations that we continue to hold them to.

Style Notes: To avoid being swamped by oversized coats or longline blazers, the fashion set adopted a clever accessorising trick that made cinched waists and statement silhouettes a thing again. Wearing their belts over their coats and jackets, showgoers added a thoughtful layer to their front row looks whilst streamlining them in the process.

After Copenhagen Fashion Week kicked things off to a colourful start, it's time to head over to one of the biggest cities in the fashion month schedule: New York. If what we've seen is anything to go by, the autumn/winter show season is already one to remember. Beyoncé front row at Luar? Snow at Moncler? Living dolls at Marc Jacobs? Only in New York. And whilst the shows had to contend with a certain other major US event (by which I mean the 2024 Super Bowl and its halftime show, of course), all eyes were clearly on New York to trendspot for the year ahead.

From Khaite's restrained colour palette and sleek separates to a cacophony of colour and texture at Carolina Herrera, it was a hotchpotch of high-low dressing and minimalism vs. maximalism. And where do we sit in this opposed narrative of dressing up or keeping it cool? Probably somewhere comfortably in the middle (just don't make us choose between heels and flats).

So, out of all of the celebrity sightings, double-tapped moments and runway finales, which trends have risen to the top and are worth noting for A/W 24? Well, we've done the legwork for you. After sifting through the shows and busily discussing our favourite pieces, we noticed a handful of reoccurring trends that we'll be more than happy to factor into our wardrobes, and unlike flash-in-the-pan aesthetics (sorry, mob wives), these have the potential to carry on long into 2025, too.

1. A Case for Lace

Style Notes: In recent years, you might have been more likely to spot white lace on coquettish dresses and trimming pretty hemlines than as a sultry, after-dark nod, but when the spring/summer season draws to a close, expect to see more of this sheer, suggestive fabric as the dark answer to 2023's ultra-romantic ode to the cute and colourful. Whether worn head to toe à la Gabriela Hearst or layered under a sensible puffer coat as seen at Michael Kors, the new way to show a little skin (without having to bear all), is through a lace curtain.

2. Pretty in Pink

Style Notes: After two years of Barbiecore, we were convinced that the pink buzz had died down in favour of hot red, but before you pack away your pink palette, let's discuss a candy floss renaissance. It might not pack the same punch as fuschia or scarlet, but there's something decidedly chic about this muted pastel, especially for autumn/winter. Just imagine how well soft pink pairs with the other colours of the season—charcoal grey, chocolate brown and of course, winter white. And if the accessorising at Coach and Carolina Herrera are anything to go by, it looks particularly good with our current rich-looking colour obsession too—luxe burgundy.

3. All Tied Up

Style Notes: Less of a major trend and more of an easy-to-replicate styling hack, the clever use of shoulder-robed jumpers, scarves and neckerchief detailing is a reminder of just how easy it is to take your look from good to great in just one step. There is an art form to this kind of nonchalant draping (see the expert knitwear-knotting at Ulla Johnson above), and generally, matching tones elevate it all. But should you find yourself wondering how to make an old jumper feel new again, try loosely tying it around a knitted dress or across your shoulders. It's the new way to do "old money".

4. Back to Business

Style Notes: Given that the beginning of the 2020s was all about easing out of workwear and into loungewear, it's only taken a couple of years for us to get back to suits and sharp tailoring. Granted, we aren't quite ready for shoulder pads and stilettos, but retro officewear was all over the New York runways, pulling references from everyone from 1950s secretaries to 1980s "She-E-Os". If one thing is clear it's that 2024 marks a return to dressing up for work again, and to get ahead you're going to want to make sure you have a good blazer, collared shirt and pencil skirt in your arsenal.

Style Notes: Let's be honest: there's simply no reason to buy real fur when faux now looks this good. Big, fluffy faux-fur coats came back onto the agenda in 2023 as a street style favourite, and in an act of reverse influence, the runway has cottoned on to the undeniable glamour of a statement coat and made it a certified trend for 2024 too. As seen at Helmut Lang and Puppets and Puppets [pictured above], faux-fur coats toe the line between comfort and elegance, delivering a resoundingly chic silhouette that will keep you looking put-together and feeling cosy all winter long. In the midst of navigating where I'm off to next during fashion week, I make it a point every season to scope out the cool items that everyone is wearing, specifically looking for the pieces that pop up again and again.

On the apparel side, there were certainly a few repeats, with big-ticket items including sweeping scarves, '80s-style leather jackets, pencil skirts and really anything that feels boho-inspired. While it's true that clothing is doubtlessly the focal point, as more and more beauty brands have become involved in fashion week, beauty has become an increasingly important aspect for designers to consider. And just as the clothes shown set the forthcoming trends, the beauty looks we see at fashion week do the same.

From backstages at New York Fashion Week this season, I watched beauty trends emerge before my eyes. While some beauty looks, like French manicures and slicked-back buns, seemed like they were further cementing themselves into the zeitgeist, newer trends, like goth-inspired glamour and metallic accents, felt like they were just breaking into the scene. Keep reading for the best beauty trends I saw this season at New York Fashion Week—plus some of the key products that were actually used to create them.

Clearly, Wednesday-core is here to stay—and you can kiss goodbye to the "clean girl” aesthetic that dominated 2022. We’re going full goth this year, baby. Rodarte leaned into the trend with graphic liner and black lipstick. "We’re doing gothic fairies… more gothic than fairy," Nars makeup lead James Kaliardos told Who What Wear US. "For this show, we really wanted to do strong and bold makeup, linear eyeliner eyes with a dark black lip or a blue lip.”

While Rodarte may have been the most overt example of gothic glamour, Adeam and Sandy Liang also leaned into the trend with deep, blood-toned lips. In the case of Adeam, shaggy hair and face jewellery also proved to be centerpieces of the looks.

After years of many people categorizing French manicures as tacky, they’re now ubiquitous among the fashion set. This season, French tips are getting a face-lift: They’re bolder, more playful, and dare we say better than they’ve ever been before? 

From her mosaic French nails at PatBo to gold tips at LoveShackFancy, Kiss brand ambassador Gina Edwards declares that the French is here to stay. "French is still on fire,” she said. "Everyone didn't want to go near it, and now, it's so explosive.” 

At Proenza Schouler, Jin Soon Choi opted for a different take on French with a matte black gradient tip. "This collection is about portraits of women,” Choi told Who What Wear. "We decided to do a black ombré.” This nail perfectly showcased the modern femininity portrayed in the clothing.

Silver, gold, rose gold—metallics are in. From entire faces painted with heavy metals to strategic flecks of sparkle, expect to start treating makeup like jewellry for your face. 

Shows such as Thom Browne and Prabal Gurung took a more overt approach to this trend with splashes of metal that stood out. "The classic look for everybody is this golden, celestial, beautiful [look],” said lead makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench. "The characters are actually asteroids.”

Other shows were more subdued, like the silvery moonlit highlights seen at Sandy Liang. "The look is inspired by sweet-but-psycho energy,” said international makeup artist Marcelo Gutierrez with Ilia Beauty. "They have this frosty, illuminated eye. It’s a sweet rock-and-roll look.”

When it came to lips this season, the theme was ROYGBV—any and every colour in the rainbow was fair game. From two-toned lips at Kim Shui to blue lips and black lips at Rodarte, we saw just about every combination possible. 

Even classic red got a makeover this season. At Alice+Olivia, the theme was Americana, but Elyse Reneau, the executive director of global beauty at Too Faced, took it to the next level. "I was thinking Marilyn Monroe, that true red lip, the bombshell lip,” she said. The result? What she coins "cherry syrup lips,” a hyper-glossy red that she says looks like "Dorothy’s slippers.”

TikTok’s favourite hairstyle isn’t going anywhere. Slicked-back buns are still the name of the game, with the sleek styles being by far the most pervasive hairstyle on the runways this season. This season’s ballet buns are sleek and neat, with shining examples seen at PatBo, Christian Siriano, and Jason Wu. 

At Christian Siriano, classic buns got a floral twist. "We were inspired by the handcrafted floral accents found throughout the collection to echo this in the hair by creating a rose-like twist, with a ‘stem’ of hair weaving down the crown of the head, meeting the rose-like bun in the back,” says Lacy Redway, Unilever stylist and celebrity hair artist for Tresemmé.

At Jason Wu, Jimmy Paul, hairstylist and Olaplex ambassador, payed homage to the ’90s with sleek, side-parted buns. These buns held the perfect tension between masculine and feminine, seamlessly complementing the collection.

Braids are nothing new, but this season, we saw them reimagined. From floor-grazing plaits at Head of State to more sculptural iterations at Ulla Johnson and Tia Adeola, braids are entering their whimsical era. 

At Head of State, Oribe principal artist of global design Kien Hoang created braids that mirrored the collection’s intention to convey designer Taofeek Abijako’s father’s immigration journey from Lagos, Nigeria. Hoang opted for sculptural braids with references to Lagos to create a throughline. 

Head of State wasn’t the only show that drew hair inspiration from a specific place or moment in time—Tia Adeola did the same. "This season, we're taking inspiration from the iconic ’90s Atlanta style, adding extra length and flair to our models’ tresses with long extensions and bold gel-sculpted curls,” says Mike Martinez of Cutler Salon with Bread Beauty. "The models selected perfectly embody this look, and we're thrilled to pay homage to the Black film BAPS style while incorporating our own unique twists.”

The autumn/winter show season in New York is always smaller, but there was clearly no shortage of fashion trends and moments to track for the year ahead. Wearable dressing at Proenza Schouler! Opulence at Carolina Hererra! Redefining Womanhood at Tory Burch! Bold and hot clothes at Luar! This season, the runway collections had us all breathing a sigh of relief from the usual performance style of dressing we've seen from designers past. Because after all, isn't making great clothes what these shows should be all about?

The weather may have been up and down, but the city was still in full-swing. Some highlights? Designers like Paloma Spain and Hellesy made swift comebacks to the city. Chloe Sevigny, everyone's favourite fashion icon extraordinaire opened (and narrated) Proenza Schouler. 23-year-old rapper Ice Spice was a celebrity highlight as she sat front row at Coach and Dion Lee. Khaite also opened its doors for its first NYC shop right after showing its collection in the dreamy and architectural advanced space. Luar took the week's finale (with a marvellous collection in tow), usually upheld by more established designers.

Oh, pretty things, how we love you so. We saw rosettes and "romantic dressing" in Paris and Milan last season but New York also got the memo for autumn/winter 2023.

While metallics were a big hit, chrome accessories, and hardware was the detail we also paid attention to. If you'd rather not opt for a shiny dress or pants, subtle chrome accessories are the way to go for adding that cool factor to your look.

With fashion month fully underway, it's time to hand it over to our friends across the pond. The sun may be setting on New York Fashion Week for another season, but in five whirlwind days, it has given us plenty of stylish moments to discuss. While we waited with bated breath to see just what London, Milan and Paris have up their fashionable sleeves, the outfits people were wearing on the streets of the Big Apple caught our attention just as much as what was shown on the runway. 

While Gabriela Hearst showed restrained, monochromatic tailoring, Tory Burch explored a tonal palette of navy, grey, tan and pops of red, and Khaite showed the elevated staples that we know and love. Outside on the streets, showgoers treated us to a cacophony of colours, textures and playful pieces that echoed free-spirited Americana. Of the many looks that we saw, the ones that resonated the most were the easy outfits made special with a key piece (e.g., a simple knit and jeans that look expensive with the addition of a maxi coat or a dressed-up pair of leggings with a particularly good leather jacket). Okay, they might not be new, but the unique necklines of these fashion week attendees really caught my eye. When we think of staple pieces we often stick to the norm - scoop, square, crew. It's clear that there's more power in a neckline than previously thought, so consider a new style when you next refresh your wardrobe. 

The little black dress just got an upgrade. 

This sweetheart style will never go out of style, but feels extra fresh paired with fun printed trousers.

3. Sheer skirts

One of the most exciting trends we saw on the sidewalk was sheer skirts. From lace to net, this daring trend can be styled with a slouchy tee or sleek tailoring, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart. If you want a more modest option, try a crochet or knit iteration. 

There's a Carrie Bradshaw feel to this look, with a 2022 twist. 

This trend is all about the styling - pair with tailored pieces to add a considered feel. 

Knit styles aren't totally sheer, but the crochet details add a peep of skin. 

4. BOLD BAGS

Handbags are proving to be more than just a functional accessory as they took centre stage for many outfits. Full black outfits served as backdrops to bold bags allowing the fashion set's arm candy to fully standout.

5. FULL DENIM

Fashion month has kicked off with its first stop of the season: New York. While we naturally anticipate the moment when the torch passes to London, there’s always a palpable excitement when the first shots from across the pond begin to land in our inboxes. After all, New York Fashion Week sets the tone for the entire month, and if the first few days are anything to go by, this season is shaping up to be quite the spectacle.

To ensure you have insight on what the editors, influencers and celebrities are wearing to take in the shows, we enlisted the talents of not one but two skilled photographers, who have been pounding the pavement to find the best street style looks from the week. With their assistance, we’ve clocked countless ensembles we wouldn’t mind re-creating ourselves this spring, from the coolest accessory moments to the standout colour trends.

1. FUN FEATHERS

Feathers are a recurring theme in fashion right now, so it’s no surprise that they were the embellishment and texture of choice during NYFW. 

Look for bright tones to keep the look fresh and springlike.

2. CORSET TOPS

The Y2K mood was evident on the streets of New York City, where we spotted more corsetry-inspired tops than we could count. 

Keep the look classy with neutral and monochromatic colour palettes and less-is-more styling.

3. CUT-OUT MAXIS

Maxi hemlines are a huge 2022 trend, and already, street stylers are tapping into it. Tick off two major looks in one by investing in a cut-out iteration. 

Cutout maxi dresses were everywhere, even catching the attention of the celebrity set—hey, Nicky Hilton Rothschild.

4. OVERSIZED BLAZERS

If you’re yet to invest in an oversized blazer, consider this the sign to do so. The cover-up of choice for the unexpectedly pleasant February weather, this is a staple you’ll wear right through until summer. 

A cream or white blazer will give you every outfit you wear a refresh.

5. OVAL SUNGLASSES

Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that can make the biggest difference to your look. Cue sunglasses—specifically white oval-shaped sunglasses, which dominated the New York Fashion Week street style scene.

6. COLUMNS OF COLOUR

Assuming you’re already up to speed on our trend report, you’ll know that columns of colour—wearing one shade top to toe—was a major look on the S/S 22 runways. Naturally, street stylers took note and paraded in a rainbow of hues on the NYC sidewalks.

7. WIDE-LEG TROUSERS

One trend that isn’t going anywhere is wide-leg tailored trousers—the slouchier, the better.

Hats have been dominating the accessory scene for a few seasons now, but it would appear those in the know are reaching for hair embellishments once more to elevate their ’dos. 

Whether it's ribbon intertwined in a braid or a sleek style accompanied by chains, decorated ponytails were all the rage at New York Fashion Week.

When it comes to beauty and fashion month, pretty much anything goes. And as self-professed hair and makeup obsessives, we pretty much live for it. (In our eyes, the weirder and more outlandish, the better.) The sparkling shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris have come and gone, but the artistic visions of designers (and the leagues of über-talented makeup artists and hairstylists) are still swirling in our inspiration-starved brains. 

We've taken a beat to ingest everything we saw—from glitter-crusted earlobes and limbs to bumblebee-stamped complexions—and put together a comprehensive list of the most notable (and actually try-able) beauty looks we spotted repeatedly in each and every city. Y2K inspirations continued to pull their weight via glitter, centre partings, crimps and bite-sized braids, as did futuristic nods towards galactic facial embellishments, rainbow-striped eyelids and chrome-finished everything—an elite assortment of beauty fodder if we've ever seen it.

Gen Z–Approved Partings

Spotted at Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Altuzarra, Coperni

Also known as a pin-straight centre-parting. Of course, middle partings have always been a thing (despite Gen Z's outspoken bias for the style), but according to the majority of runways across New York, Paris, Milan and London, the centre part is officially It for the foreseeable future. (Nary a side parting did we see!) What's more, switching up your part is probably the most effortless way to transform the look of your strands in seconds, and people will probably ask if you did something way more drastic.

Slicked Strands

Spotted at Jonathan Simkhai, Chanel, Lanvin

Say hello to yet another overwhelming hair trend we spotted across all four cities: classic (and sometimes not-so-classic) slicked-back hair. Whether models wore their hair in sleek chignons; wet, glitter-lacquered waves or back-grazing lengths, the look of glossy strands pulled back and away from the face was unanimously favored.

Peachy-Keen Gazes

Spotted at Drome, Bora Aksu, Anna Sui

Pink- and russet-flushed eyes have remained an unwavering trend in the last few years, but S/S 22's take is lighter, brighter and a bit more whimsical via complexion-popping shades of coral and peach. Try the shade as an eyeliner or all-over shadow. You really can't go wrong.

Drool-Inducing Hair Accessories

Spotted at Simone Rocha, Tom Ford, Victor Glemaud

It's hardly surprising that statement-making headpieces and hair accessories have always been an important part of a designer's artistic vision when it comes to showcasing a new collection. And 2022's displays were no different, with tiaras, chunky, stackable barrettes and bubble ponytail holders all making head-turning appearances.

Crimson Lips

Spotted at Michael Kors, Saint Laurent, Naeem Khan

Red lips never go out of style per se, but their fever-pitch popularity does come in waves. And we foresee an inevitable surge if this fall's runways have anything to say about it. Try it shiny, try it matte or, if you'd rather dip your toe in versus plunging headfirst, try a tinted lip oil for a subdued yet still on-trend take.

Otherworldly Pouts

Spotted at ACNE Studios, Mark Fast, Duncan

Disco purple, gothic black and sequin studs perhaps aren't the most wearable of lip aesthetics to try day-to-day, but hey, there are absolutely no rules when it comes to beauty, and we deeply enjoyed the transportive, fantasy-like quality of the celestial inspirations above.

Ultra-Fresh Skin

Spotted at Patbo, Altuzarra, Ottolinger

Fashion week isn't always about Mars-transported makeup looks. We took note of plenty of shows that displayed models' fresh-faced, barely made-up complexions. To really help your skin sing next spring and summer (or, you know, now), opt for an airy tinted moisturiser or a light, creamy foundation (if you want a little more coverage) that will look invisible the second it melts into your skin.

Metallic Accents

Spotted at Simone Rocha, Etro, LaQuan Smith

From the not-so-subtle embellishments freckling models' faces at Etro to crystallised cat eyes at LaQuan Smith in shades of ruby, sapphire and turquoise, gleaming metallic accents could be spotted across countless runways. Usually, it was to accentuate an otherwise bare complexion.

Face-Paint Vibes

Spotted at Rodarte, Paul & Joe

Whimsical designs à la flowers, clouds and rainbows made nostalgic appearances at shows like Rodarte and Paul & Joe. Think of the face paint of your childhood but so much cooler.

Edward Cullen–esque Sparkle

Spotted at Blumarine, Collina Strada, Osman

Glittering hair and skin practically dripped off the fashion month runways, and we couldn't help but make the comparison to the Cullens' infamously sparkling skin. Body glitter (as seen at Blumarine) has been on our radar for a while now as one of our favorite re-emerging Y2K beauty trends, and we love seeing the spread to strands, eyes, and even ears. Try it if you dare.

Waves of Neon

Spotted at Versace, Prabal Gurung, Kim Shui

We're used to seeing smouldering smoky eyes and dramatic inky liner grace the faces of fashion week models, but S/S 22's take was noticeably more Technicolor and, dare we say, Rainbow Brite–inspired than the traditional black. The multicoloured strokes at Versace were our personal favourite, but the vibrant looks at Prabal Gurung and Kim Shui were close followers.

White-Out

Spotted at John Richmond, Francesca Liberatore, Yohji Yamamoto

Nothing makes a statement like all-over white (be it on the lips, eyes, lashes or cheeks), which lends stunning contrast to rich skin tones and an icy finish to lighter complexions. For a more wearable take on the looks we saw on the runways, try a dash of white liner on your lids or an icier hit of highlighter to add some glam to your cheekbones and Cupid's bow.

Fireside Flush

Spotted at Brandon Maxwell, Blumarine, Altuzarra

Last, but certainly not least, blush. But not just any kind of blush, a warm, borderline feverish flush that feels reminiscent of the natural rosiness you get after sitting a tad too close to the campfire, drinking a glass (or three) of wine or even just going for a brisk walk in the cold. Depending on your colouring, you can go more orange or pink. Just add an extra layer than you normally might to really give your at-home version runway-inspired legs.

New York Fashion Week has come and gone, and after getting a chance to see clothes back in person again, we're excited to give you the digital download on the standout trends we saw come down the runways. From our favourite small brands like Sandy Liang and Maryam Nassir Zadeh to the coveted collections of Proenza Schouler and Khaite, there was a lot to love this show season. We're talking full-on fringe, sheer fabrics galore and cutouts continuing on. It's safe to say you should start getting excited about 2022 fashion.

We're not expecting you to take time out of your busy day to look through hundreds of runway images, but luckily for you, it's been our job this past week to take notes and give a short cheat sheet on the best of the shows. Trust us when we say the trend below will start popping up on the market and the fashion set come 2022. 

Of all the things we saw grace the runways in New York, delicate tie details were a theme that definitely surprised us. All manner of straps—from a continuation of waist floss to elongated chokers and ties wrapped on top of the garments—were an outfit addition we spotted on the runways of Altuzarra, Bevza, Jonathan Simkhai, and although these thin ties were subtle, they instantly added interest to the looks.

Sorry to the bearer of controversial news, but somebody had to say it: low rises are here to stay. According to the spring runways in New York, hemlines are sinking ever lower and this time, it's not only in the context of a Y2K revival look, although they were aplenty. We also saw low rises featured in more minimalist ensembles, like this white skirt set at Staud.

While fringe was usually a moment reserved for accessories or boho-esque styles, it was seen on the runways in full force. While Rodarte brought out party-perfect sequined versions and Jonathan Simkhai sent neutral options down the runway, there are variations to choose from come Spring.

In case we haven't said it enough, 2021 is the year of the cutout. The trend really took hold this spring and summer, but given the recent collections for next spring that we viewed last week, the eye-catching silhouettes aren't going anywhere. In fact, they're only getting spicier. We're bookmarking the exposed-skin LBDs like the ones presented by Christian Siriano and Victor Glemaud to wear next spring (or honestly start tapping into now).

Ready your RSVPs, folks, because after-dark dressing is coming for your closet in 2022. High shine fabrics like luxe lamé, sheeny satin and stunning sequins are going to have a big moment next season and with options ranging from slinky dresses to sharp suiting, there are plenty of ways to get in on it.

According to designers like Kim Shui, Khaite and Maryam Nassir Zadeh—the less fabric, the better. A sheer number with underwear peaking through seems to be the most popular way to don the trend.

While many indie brands have already led the path on the '70s inspired and psychedelic prints, it seems that high-end designers are taking their own spin on things for 2022.

While tiny bags have their moments, practicality is in. the spotlight with oversized shopper bags seen on the runways of Tory Burch and Bevza. New Yorkers are known for schlepping bags around, so it's no surprise that brands have opted for large carryalls this fashion week.

For a lesson in what to wear right now, you needn't necessarily look to the runways, as they often showcase creations too fantastical for everyday use. Instead, we like to zero in on the street style set, which reliably cherry-picks the need-to-know pieces for us, subsequently setting the tone of our wardrobes for the season ahead. And right now, as we find ourselves in the midst of fashion month, those dashing to and from shows are serving up all the shopping inspiration we need with their perfectly executed outfits, which feature some seriously chic items.

The streets of New York City have spoken: Autumn outfits are a go! It's been exciting to see fashion month kick off IRL once more, and while the runways have wowed us (Proenza! Rodarte! Tom Ford!), it's the sidewalk scene that has us reaching into the depths of our closets to rediscover some old gems for the new season. And while the weather across the pond might be stuck in summer, the mood and outfit choices have been shifting towards autumn in subtle ways: a fabric option here, a colour there, the addition of a smart layering piece or the switching up of a silhouette. 

Some fashion-show goers in New York defied the heat altogether, diving head first into knitwear, leather and even puffer coats (now that's dedication), which even gave us some much-appreciated inspiration for mid-winter. But considering autumn has just begun, we're focusing on the outfits that help us segue from lightweight summer style to up-to-date autumn looks.
