I'm always on the hunt for chic, minimal and stylish nail trends to wear throughout summer. The thing is, I don't want something boring. I know, I know—how exciting can a minimal manicure be? I guess what I mean is that I want something a little different from your usual clear nail polish or French tip manicure that still fits my understated aesthetic.

For a long time, I've favourited the milky nail trend over anything else, but after coming across "sorbet nails", I think I've found a new fave.

Sorbet Nails

Spotted on nail artist Mateja Novakovic, this sorbet manicure features a glossy, bright pink tint that makes your nails look healthy and vibrant. That being said, the sheer, sorbet-like finish keeps things natural and elegant, perfect if you prefer an everyday manicure that won't look out of place when paired with your neutral wardrobe.

Whilst Novakovic keeps things short and simple with her rounded nail shape, I also think this trend would look incredible paired with long, almond-shaped nails, too.

Crisp, clean and endlessly versatile, the nail trend feels more elevated than ever, with soft milky finishes, minimalist floral detail and fashion-forward French tips.

The key to making the look feel expensive rather than stark lies in the application, says Hannah Taylor, nail tech and brand ambassador for The GelBottle Inc. "White polish can be one of the trickiest shades to apply because it's so highly pigmented, but the key is using thin, even coats rather than trying to achieve full coverage in one."

She recommends applying two to three thin layers, allowing each coat to settle before the next. "A smoothing base coat also makes a huge difference, as white highlights every ridge or imperfection on the nail. Finishing with a glossy top coat helps create a crisp, salon-quality finish," she adds.

As someone who has spent the best part of the last year with a fresh gel manicure on rotation, I'd almost forgotten what my natural nails looked like. While I love the glossy, long-lasting finish that gel delivers, I recently decided to take a break and embrace bare nails for a while. I'm a beauty editor who studies nail trends for a living, but for the most part, you'll usually find a sheer pink or milky white nail colour painted on my nails, no matter the time of the year. However, during summer, I like to push the boat out just a little. What I love about a strawberry manicure is that it's a chic yet very wearable summer nail colour. The trend actually inspired me to create my new shade, Strawberry Blush. I wanted a true glassy pink for my kit; something completely sheer, with no white pigment in it. My vision was for it to look like a juicy and translucent strawberry gloss for the nails. It took around 18 months of testing and refining formulas to achieve exactly the right finish, but the final result is everything I hoped.

How to Create a Strawberry-Blush Manicure

For anyone wanting to re-create the look, nail preparation is key. I always start by thoroughly prepping the nail, focusing on creating the perfect foundation. After gently pushing back the cuticles and lightly exfoliating any dry skin around the nail, I softly buff the nail plate, cleanse with acetone and then begin the gel application.

My go-to application is Glass Base (£20), followed by Strawberry Blush Glass Gel (£25) and then Glass Top (£20). For the ultimate glossy finish, I always recommend pairing it with a high-shine base coat and top coat; that extra shine is what gives the manicure its signature glass-like finish. Once everything is cured, I perfect the shape with a final file.

Personally, I love applying it using an apex technique, which creates a beautifully smooth, curved surface that catches the light from every angle. This is where the manicure really comes to life, as the nails almost look like little glass jewels.

One of the things I love most about Strawberry Blush is how versatile it is. With just one coat, you get a flush of pink that enhances the nail's natural tone. As you build additional layers, the colour becomes more vibrant, allowing you to completely customise the effect.

The beauty of the strawberry manicure is that it can be tailored to suit everyone. Some of my clients prefer a single sheer layer for the most natural result, whilst others love a more built-up, pinker flush of colour. I like layering a milky nude shade underneath, then applying a single coat of Strawberry Blush on top. It creates the most beautiful soft-pink glow for anyone who wants a hint of colour without committing to a brighter pink nail colour.

You can also personalise the look with nail art. I love adding a tiny strawberry detail on the thumb as a playful nod to the trend, but equally, the manicure is strong enough to stand on its own. Whether you want a barely there tint or a glossy pink glow, you can achieve multiple looks with the same shade. It's effortless, chic and exactly the kind of manicure I want to wear all summer long.

“Minimalistic manicures tend to go with anything you wear or accessorise with. As people tend to be more adventurous with their style in the summer months, it makes sense that we’re seeing more understated nails this season,” says celebrity and session manicurist Janel Grant.

While they may not demand attention in the same way that a bold summer bright or animal print design does, understated nails still feel chic and relevant. Much like the perfect white shirt, their appeal lies in their ability to work with every outfit, occasion and season. Plus, understated manicures don’t have to be boring: delicate nail art, creamy neutrals and milky finishes can still elevate your nails without overpowering your whole look. Plus, there’s still room to play with colour within this framework. “Personally, I love bold nails, so manicures to me in colours like deep red or a royal blue are still simple, but offer a quiet statement,” says manicurist and nail content creator Elisa Tladi.

To really nail this look at home, it's all about the prep. "Making sure that cuticles are pushed back and removed, and wiping away any dust or debris once you've buffed the nail is super important," explains Tladi. "That way any polish you apply on the nail looks clean and expensive."

"Bright, feel-good shades are definitely leading the way this summer," shares Edwards. Think spicy corals, cool blues and vibrant pinks. When it comes to the latter camp, nothing looks more stylish than a juicy watermelon shade. As Edwards adds, "it's bright without feeling neon and looks amazing on all skin tones." If you're craving something rather playful but don't want to wear anything too "loud," this is certainly the polish to pick.

Butter Yellow

Nope, butter yellow manicures aren't going anywhere. Take it from Edwards, who says they're "fresh, flattering, and surprisingly wearable." Don't listen to the naysayers—butter yellow, you will always be famous! "If I had to recommend just one colour, it would be a vibrant red-orange shade," declares Sanchez, who considers Soulful Ginger by Aprés her number one pick. Of course, this nail design has been around for decades; however, it wasn’t until I spotted Chanel’s multi-coloured mermaid nails featured in the brand’s cruise 26/27 collection that I felt inspired to try it out myself.

Now, I’m well aware that this might initially feel daunting to those of us who usually prefer a pared-back look; however, the great thing about this trend is that it can easily be adapted to your comfort level. Whether you opt for a neutral hue, bold colour or statement pattern, or go for a full-coverage or sheer finish, this versatile nail trend can be tweaked to suit every personal aesthetic. As someone who's used to simpler manis, I'm unlikely to go for anything too crazy; however, I’ll definitely be using neutral hues like nude, brown and pinks to try it out for myself.

Despite my saved folder being full to the brim of intricate nail art designs and 2026’s chicest nail trends, I have to come clean and admit that when it comes to manicures, my tastes are pretty basic. Sure, I can admire an animal print mani or an embellished design, but the maintenance of having to frequent a nail salon every three weeks just doesn’t suit my Type B personality. So when I learned that one of this year’s biggest nail trends was going to be all about enhancing your bare nails, rather than masking them with bold colours or detailed designs, I was over the moon. Enter: the naked manicure.

What Is a Naked Manicure?

The nail equivalent of a “no makeup, makeup” look, a naked manicure is all about showing off healthy, well-groomed nails that still look polished. “The trend might be called ‘naked’, but it works because in reality the nails have still been prepped, shaped and coated in a sheer polish to protect them,” explains manicurist Jaz Moger. Part of its appeal is undeniably that it’s a simple nail look that feels like a welcome contrast to the maximalist manicures that often dominate our social feeds or the hands of the A-list. Plus, we all live busy lives, and the beauty of the naked manicure is that you don’t have to worry about chips or visible regrowth—it delivers a put-together finish but without the upkeep.

How to Create a Naked Manicure

“To create a naked manicure, I would file the nails to a natural-looking shape, prep the cuticles and then paint a couple of coats of a smoothing, nude-coloured polish,” says Moger. She rates Manucurist’s Active Smooth (£16)—a sheer nail treatment available in a few different undertones. “It’s my go-to when I’m having a gel break as the formula nourishes the nails while blurring any imperfections,” she explains. “You could also opt for sheer, translucent pink colours to rock this minimal manicure.”

As much as I love a vibrant colour or two when it comes to my summer manicure, there's a new trend on the rise that feels like a fresh take on understated nails. Basically, my social media feed is filled with "invisible" nail looks, and I can't get enough. From the invisible French manicure to sheer jelly and soap nails, it's clear we're fully in our demure era. I'm not the only one taking notice, either. Nail artists have also noticed a huge uptick in requests for looks like this, and they aren't complaining.

International nail artist, educator, and co-founder of Chicago's Art Me Nails Studio, Svitlana Motyl says, "One of the reasons this trend has become so popular is because it's incredibly versatile and wearable. Invisible nails are not about looking unfinished, they're about looking clean and effortless." International nail artist Olha Shtanhei also equates this trend to the "clean girl" makeup aesthetic that some still swear by. It's not about going over the top, but quietly adding flair to an otherwise neutral look. "The idea is to create a manicure that enhances rather than decorates," she adds. "The goal is not to show the product, the colour, or the technique, but to make the hands look clean and well cared for."

Barely There Pink Nails

Elle Gerstein (Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and Nicole Kidman's manicurist of choice) loves a "barely there" pink shade on the nails to get in on this trend. In fact, she mentioned that some of her favourite understated manicures she's done have been with ultra-sheer pink shades and a tiny bit of pearl chrome to give it a unique finish. To add a bit of flair to a rosy, neutral pink shade, you can add 3D art or designs on the nail.

Some of my favourite understated manicures I’ve done were ultra sheer pinks with a tiny bit of pearl chrome, soft rosy beige nails with a blurred French edge and really glossy natural short nails with almost no visible colour at all. They photograph beautifully and work on everyone. As another trick, to give a truly "invisible" look, Gerstein says to try builder gel. "The true way to do these is with soft builder gels in sheer pinks because they give that healthy, natural finish," she says. "Products I love for this look are Essie [shades] Ballet Slippers and Sugar Daddy, Dazzle Dry's So On Pointe and Prima Ballerina, and Manucurist 's Active Blur. Ombré French Manicure

This look is one of my personal favourites when I'm going for an "invisible" vibe. It looks so organic on the nails and takes way less time to do than a traditional French manicure. Gerstein also loves this look. "[I love creating looks] with a blurred French edge and really glossy natural short nails with almost no visible colour at all," she shares. "They photograph beautifully and work on everyone."

Glossy Chrome Nude Nails

Another way to add sheen to an otherwise more neutral look is to add a chrome glaze on top. Gerstein loves a chrome finish and added, "a super-glossy clear manicure with really clean cuticles fits the [invisible nail] vibe."

Motyl says a natural chrome or pearl finish is also perfect for a subtle glow. "Subtle pearl or natural chrome powders [add] dimension without heaviness," she says. "These looks work beautifully because they enhance the hands without drawing excessive attention," she says.

"Invisible" Soft French Manicure

Celebrity nail artist Analysse Hernandez (whose clientele includes Kim Petras, Madison Beer, and Tate McRae) has a lot to say about the elusive yet quietly popular invisible French manicure. "My girls love the invisible soft French," she says. "It gives a very realistic nail look to an extension. This muted French can honestly be done with any colour mixed with milky white. It’s my favourite way to do a simple nail, but still has a slight change of colour for the summer."

Shtanhei also agrees that this type of French really softens the traditional design. "Traditional French can sometimes look graphic or formal, but the invisible version feels modern, lighter, and more expensive," she shares. "It gives structure to the nail, visually elongates the fingers, and makes the free edge look perfect without looking painted on."

Hernandez loves shades like OPI's Bare My Soul for a look like this, and Shtanhei's favourite is Mineral Fusion's On Pointe.

Milky White Nails

If a plain old French manicure of any kind doesn't float your boat this season, try a milky white shade on its own or paired with a thin French tip. It adds something different to your look without going over the top. While milky white is a pretty neutral shade, Shtanhei also recommends thinking about your skin's undertones if you want to find your perfect milky base. "A shade that looks invisible on one person can look too pink, too white, or too grey on another," she says. "The perfect invisible manicure is always customised."

You can also play around with using a neutral base shade like pink, beige or milky white and topping your look with tiny nail art to fill the negative space. This works perfectly if you're not someone who likes just a basic neutral shade for an invisible manicure. This adds something a little extra and makes the nails pop.

Soap nails are the minimalist manicure that fits right in with the invisible trend. Nail artists and nail enthusiasts alike still love the look for its ultra-clean aesthetic. Shtanhei explained a bit more about this look and why she thinks it's timeless. "Soap nails are very clean, glossy, almost wet-looking nails in sheer pink, milky beige or translucent nude," she explains. "They look fresh, polished, and effortless."

Motyl also adds that choosing the right shade for you is key here. "Always choose shades that enhance the natural tone rather than mask it completely," she says. "Technique also matters just as much as product choice. Proper nail architecture, clean cuticle work, ultra-smooth surface refinement, and thin application are what truly make invisible nails look luxurious and effortless."

Gerstein also loves a sheer jelly, almost syrupy finish on the nails if you're going for an invisible look. It adds a shiny, retro vibe that feels different, but still minimalistic and pretty. "[They] make it easy to create a glowing, healthy effect," she says. "Nails Inc. has jelly-like tints to add hints of colour, Isabella is my go-to!"

"A classic red pedicure never goes out of style, but this summer we’re seeing a shift towards slightly richer, glossier tones—think cherry rather than bright pillar-box red," Huber-Millet explains. "It’s a confident, timeless choice that works across all skin tones and occasions, from everyday wear to more dressed-up moments. On the toes especially, a red always feels polished and intentional."

Okay, this isn't actually a trend from Huber-Millet, but I've spotted some seriously stylish people wearing navy nail polish on their toes as of late, and I'm obsessed with this somewhat unexpected summer hue. The deep tone is incredibly chic for the warmer months. I mean, imagine this colour paired with an all-white outfit?

Right now, there's a lot of discourse around nails—specifically bare nails. My FYP is filled with videos saying how bare nails are the next "status symbol", and I've never been asked by more people for gel nail alternatives. Personally, I believe that manicures will never go away, and wearing gel nails or having nail art is one of the most fun forms of self-expression in beauty.

As someone who used to have back-to-back gel manicures, I constantly found myself Googling how to strengthen my nails. Team Who What Wear UK regards OPI Repair Mode as one of the best nail serums ever. In fact, beauty editor Eleanor Vousden said her nails stopped breaking when she started using this. "I'm totally sold on this nail growth serum," she says. "At £30, it's one of the most expensive nail serums I've tested, but trust me, this really works." How, I hear you ask? Well, it uses the brand's Patented Ulti-Plex Technology, which essentially penetrates the nail's surface and builds new bonds, resulting in stronger, smoother nails. The only downside? You do have to apply it to bare nails twice a day for the first six days, but after that, you can use it underneath your go-to polish.

2. Margaret Dabbs Nourish Nail and Cuticle Serum Pen

Margaret Dabbs London certainly knows what it's doing when it comes to nail care, and this serum is no exception. Available in a handy, almost pen-like format, this hydrating formula features tea tree oil (which does give it a rather strong scent) to hydrate dry nails and help prevent infection. Whilst the actual serum is a little thicker than others I've tried, it sinks in instantly and adds beautiful shine to the nail, whilst nourishing over time.

3. Bio Sculpture Ethos Golden Nail Serum

Dennis is a big fan of this Bio Sculpture nail serum. "It makes my nails look radiant while genuinely improving their health from within," she tells me. "Urea penetrates deep into the nail structure to tackle dryness at the source rather than just sealing in moisture; green tea offers antioxidant protection and biotin supports keratin production for stronger, healthier nails. It absorbs without any stickiness too, which makes it a genuine non-negotiable step for me."

Not only do Dior nail products look chic, but they actually work. This hydrating serum is one of my favourites from the brand, as it's great to throw in my handbag for on-the-go application. Plus, the applicator itself is a little brush, making it so easy to apply straight to the nail or cuticle. Infused with apricot kernel oil, the formula nourishes and strengthens the nail and softens the cuticles. Sometimes I apply it to bare nails, and sometimes I use it after a manicure to keep my cuticles looking neat and fresh.

5. Navy Hand & Cuticle Serum

If you're looking for a nail serum that also hydrates the hands, then look no further. Navy's multipurpose serum combines raspberry seed oil, jojoba oil and argan oil to condition the skin and cuticles and protect against dryness. Whilst I've not been testing it long enough to confirm whether it helps nails to grow, I have noticed an immediate difference in hydration. Oh, and it smells amazing.
