How to Get Horoscope Nails At Home

When it comes to nails, I consider myself a nail minimalist. I'm a beauty editor who studies nail trends for a living, but for the most part, you'll usually find a sheer pink or milky white nail colour painted on my nails, no matter the time of the year. However, during summer, I like to push the boat out just a little. And after looking for some nail art inspiration that still appeals to my pared-back aesthetic, my thumbs paused on this stunning aura nail art that came up on my feed, and I've never been more excited to try it.

Pink Aura Nails

Aura nails are similar to ombré nails in that they both blend two nail colours together. Whilst ombre transitions from one colour to another vertically, aura nails blur outwards from the centre of the nail, creating a halo-like glow around your nails. And in this strawberry colourway, it's the perfect way to dabble in something a little different from a neutral manicure for summer whilst keeping things minimalistic. It's like a blush tint for your nails.

For this look, Manicurist Mateja Novakovic used two Manucurist nail colours, including Halo for the base (a milky, shimmering pink) and centred Bloom in the middle of the nail for the bright pop of strawberry. All you have to do is apply your base colour and then use a sponge to dab on your second shade, diffusing it into a seamless transition. Finish with a top coat, and there you have your aura nail art. "Bright, feel-good shades are definitely leading the way this summer," shares Edwards. Think spicy corals, cool blues and vibrant pinks. When it comes to the latter camp, nothing looks more stylish than a juicy watermelon shade. As Edwards adds, "it's bright without feeling neon and looks amazing on all skin tones." If you're craving something rather playful but don't want to wear anything too "loud," this is certainly the polish to pick.

Nope, butter yellow manicures aren't going anywhere. Take it from Edwards, who says they're "fresh, flattering, and surprisingly wearable." "If I had to recommend just one colour, it would be a vibrant red-orange shade," declares Sanchez, who considers Soulful Ginger by Aprés her number one pick. "It's bold, flattering on a variety of skin tones, and instantly gives a confident summer vibe. It's also one of the colours that consistently receives the most compliments from my clients and performs exceptionally well on social media." You might be surprised to see such a cool neutral on this list, considering summer nail colours typically fall under the "bright neon" category. That said, Edwards swears a lavender-grey is one of the chicest polishes you can wear in the scorching weather. A "sophisticated twist on purple," the polish gives your nails just a hint of pigment, like fruit-infused water.

Milky Chrome

Chrome manicures cast a rather wide net—some have an opaque, mirror-like shine, while others are much more sheer and seaglass-inspired. According to the pros, this summer's polishes will lean towards the latter. Edwards specifically calls them "milky chrome" shades, or pigment with a "soft, pearlized finish that catches the light without looking overly metallic." Consider it a commitment to "summerween" manicures. There's also something inexplicably cool about going against a seasonal colour story, right? Not to mention, you can pair it with icy blue or baby pink for a chic, mix-and-match set.

A soft pistachio green never fails to look chic, and it surprisingly suits every outfit. Bright yet creamy, it effortlessly adds a pop of colour to your ensemble without overpowering the entire aesthetic, which is exactly why Edwards considers the shade a "fresh alternative to neutrals." As much as I love a vibrant colour or two when it comes to my summer manicure, there's a new trend on the rise that feels like a fresh take on understated nails. Basically, my social media feed is filled with "invisible" nail looks, and I can't get enough. From the invisible French manicure to sheer jelly and soap nails, it's clear we're fully in our demure era. I'm not the only one taking notice, either. Nail artists have also noticed a huge uptick in requests for looks like this, and they aren't complaining.

International nail artist, educator, and co-founder of Chicago's Art Me Nails Studio, Svitlana Motyl says, "One of the reasons this trend has become so popular is because it's incredibly versatile and wearable. Invisible nails are not about looking unfinished, they're about looking clean and effortless." International nail artist Olha Shtanhei also equates this trend to the "clean girl" makeup aesthetic that some still swear by. It's not about going over the top, but quietly adding flair to an otherwise neutral look. "The idea is to create a manicure that enhances rather than decorates," she adds. "The goal is not to show the product, the colour, or the technique, but to make the hands look clean and well cared for."

Barely There Pink Nails

Elle Gerstein (Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and Nicole Kidman's manicurist of choice) loves a "barely there" pink shade on the nails to get in on this trend. In fact, she mentioned that some of her favourite understated manicures she's done have been with ultra-sheer pink shades and a tiny bit of pearl chrome to give it a unique finish. To add a bit of flair to a rosy, neutral pink shade, you can add 3D art or designs on the nail.

Some of my favourite understated manicures I’ve done were ultra sheer pinks with a tiny bit of pearl chrome, soft rosy beige nails with a blurred French edge and really glossy natural short nails with almost no visible colour at all. They photograph beautifully and work on everyone. As another trick, to give a truly "invisible" look, Gerstein says to try builder gel. "The true way to do these is with soft builder gels in sheer pinks because they give that healthy, natural finish," she says. "Products I love for this look are Essie [shades] Ballet Slippers and Sugar Daddy, Dazzle Dry's So On Pointe and Prima Ballerina, and Manucurist 's Active Blur. This look is one of my personal favourites when I'm going for an "invisible" vibe. It looks so organic on the nails and takes way less time to do than a traditional French manicure. Gerstein also loves this look. "[I love creating looks] with a blurred French edge and really glossy natural short nails with almost no visible colour at all," she shares. "They photograph beautifully and work on everyone."

Glossy Chrome Nude Nails

Another way to add sheen to an otherwise more neutral look is to add a chrome glaze on top. Gerstein loves a chrome finish and added, "a super-glossy clear manicure with really clean cuticles fits the [invisible nail] vibe."

Motyl says a natural chrome or pearl finish is also perfect for a subtle glow. "Subtle pearl or natural chrome powders [add] dimension without heaviness," she says. "These looks work beautifully because they enhance the hands without drawing excessive attention," she says.

"Invisible" Soft French Manicure

Celebrity nail artist Analysse Hernandez (whose clientele includes Kim Petras, Madison Beer, and Tate McRae) has a lot to say about the elusive yet quietly popular invisible French manicure. "My girls love the invisible soft French," she says. "It gives a very realistic nail look to an extension. This muted French can honestly be done with any colour mixed with milky white. It’s my favourite way to do a simple nail, but still has a slight change of colour for the summer."

Shtanhei also agrees that this type of French really softens the traditional design. "Traditional French can sometimes look graphic or formal, but the invisible version feels modern, lighter, and more expensive," she shares. "It gives structure to the nail, visually elongates the fingers, and makes the free edge look perfect without looking painted on."

Hernandez loves shades like OPI's Bare My Soul for a look like this, and Shtanhei's favourite is Mineral Fusion's On Pointe.

If a plain old French manicure of any kind doesn't float your boat this season, try a milky white shade on its own or paired with a thin French tip. It adds something different to your look without going over the top. While milky white is a pretty neutral shade, Shtanhei also recommends thinking about your skin's undertones if you want to find your perfect milky base. "A shade that looks invisible on one person can look too pink, too white, or too grey on another," she says. "The perfect invisible manicure is always customised."

Motyl also adds that choosing the right shade for you is key here. "Always choose shades that enhance the natural tone rather than mask it completely," she says. "Technique also matters just as much as product choice. Proper nail architecture, clean cuticle work, ultra-smooth surface refinement, and thin application are what truly make invisible nails look luxurious and effortless."

Spring is here, and we beauty enthusiasts are already beginning to get an idea of which buzzy nail trends this season will be remembered for. Whilst spring 2025 was all about leaning into nostalgia with bold, negative space designs, micro-French manicures and coquette nails featuring 3D decals, this time around, we're expecting the nail space to transform once more as the trend cycle continues. However, experts are saying the season's top nail looks will look significantly less "trendy" than we've seen in the past.

In true Who What Wear beauty editor fashion, I reached out to two celebrity nail artists for the insider's scoop on which nail designs will be falling out of style just in time for the temperatures to rise, and everything that will be taking their place. Which Nail Looks Won't Be Trending This Spring?

Celebrity manicurist Queenie Nguyen predicts a shift away from the maximalist, high-drama nails that dominated spring last year. "Trends that you might not see include overly bling 'junk nails', thicker, high contract french tips, enlarged 3D elements, or even extreme shapes like an ultra sharp stiletto," Nguyen explains. Celebrity nail artist Analysse Hernandez shares that she and her clients have been experimenting with fresh designs, departing from the blooming gel flower nails that made appearances for spring over the last two years.

"I love how buildable and versatile this flower was in sets, but I do feel like my clients are now gravitating toward more realistic nail art," she adds. Last year, manicures embraced simple, solid colours, but Hernandez says simple, solid colours (especially soft shades like butter yellow), but the trend won't be making a return this season. "While those colours are still relevant, this year is all about adding personality through design," explains Hernandez.

What Will Be Taking Their Place?

Rather than returning to last spring's bold, runway-inspired nail art, citrus shades and dramatically long lengths, Nguyen says manicures this spring will be softer and more wearable. "Think sheer, milky 'your nails but better' finishes, jelly nails that give a more translucent finish, micro nail art like micro french tips or subtle gems," continues Nguyen. She also predicts we'll be seeing shorter lengths with softer shapes like round, oval, and 'sqoval' nail shapes making a comeback this spring. Instead of the aforementioned gel flower nails, Hernandez foresees floral milk nails rising in popularity this season (dried flowers are delicately encapsulated within gel or acrylic).

"Layer with a sheer, milky shade like OPI’m a Bubble Bunny to create that soft, spring-ready 'clean girl' aesthetic," she explains. Hernandez is also seeing a rise in pattern nails featuring playful designs like polka dots, stripes, and gingham prints. "These looks embrace a mix of colours, textures and creativity," Hernandez explains.

Why Will These Trends Be on the Rise?

If you've been noticing an uptick in the number of beauty trends based on lifestyle, you're not alone. Nguyen says manicures this season will be all about prioritising low-maintenance and polished looks that lean into individuality and lifestyle. "Rather than repeating highly recognisable, 'algorithm-driven' trends (like glazed doughnut or heavy chrome), people are gravitating toward more personal, understated styles that still feel intentional and fun," she says. "I’m excited to see more techs lean into this fun world and bring back maximalist nails!"

For a clean, healthy glaze, Nguyen recommends asking BIAB as it's ideal for creating a sheer, structured base that enhances natural nails. "If you're at home, I love the Orly Breathable 1 Step Manicure because it combines nail care with colour. A favourite spring neutral is Kiss Me, I'm Kind as it is the perfect soft, subtle pink."

This chic manicure by Milan-based creative nail-artist Oksana Zavora combines the magic of a cat eye design with subtle polka dot details that catch the light perfectly. These ethereal and playful nails combine one of the season's trendiest colours (vintage blue) with crisp cream for a versatile, spring-inspired look that's timeless.

Best Spring Nail POlishes

Nothing beats Easter. To me, it always marks the start of spring, and I love taking the long weekend to refresh my space, bring out my brightly coloured clothes and eat lots of chocolate, of course. Another thing I have to look forward to this Easter is a nail appointment. This is my first manicure in over three months, as I've been giving my nails a break and admiring all the biggest spring nail trends from afar. However, now that my nails feel healthy again, I thought I'd treat myself to a gel manicure for the special occasion.

Before I head to the salon, I've been doing lots of research into what easter nail designs are proving popular. While I'm usually a milky manicure gal through and through, Easter is the time to have fun with my nails and go for something different, like a bright colour (to match my wardrobe) or even some nail art.

As a celebrity manicurist, I see so much demand for micro nail art, especially at this time of year. My clients often ask for it in the spring, as it's a cute and chic way to have a little bit of fun with your usual manicure and tap into a seasonal nail trend. My clients and I wanted to find a way to have some fun with their manicure whilst keeping it elegant and timeless, and the micro floral is such a great way to do this.

Personally, I love doing floral nail art on a milky nail base and choosing one accent nail for the art. At first glance, it just looks like a milky manicure. It's only if you see the nail art on the thumb that you notice the little pop of colour and the flower, and I think that's part of the appeal of milky nail art.

My nail art style is definitely minimal, so I like the micro nail art to be super small and detailed. I love to work with intricate details because you get that classic finish to the manicure, and the nail art is very wearable. That tiny little bit of colour catches the light and is honestly such a joy every time you see it.

Below, I'm sharing my tips and tricks to help you create a "milky floral" nail art design, alongside my favourite products to achieve the look.

How to Do "Milky Floral" Nail Art

For a milky manicure, once you've prepped your nails, start by applying Westmoreland Cosmetics Glass Base Coat (£20), followed by Glass Gel (£25) in shade 1 or 2, which suit all complexions. Shade 1 is a little bit milkier, and Shade 2 has a touch of pink, but is still milky. They both have that beautiful sheer finish.

If you're working with nail polish rather than gel, be aware that, obviously, polish dries faster, so you need to paint it as quickly as possible to avoid any dragging. If you're using gel polish, cure it and then wipe the nail with acetone to remove the sticky layer.

For the nail art itself, I would paint the individual leaves of the flower one by one using a tiny nail-art brush. Then, I would place a dotting tool into the centre of the leaves to create the little heart of the flower. I do it intuitively as I go, so I'll look at the size and the shape of the nail and then build the design around that. I only ever do one tiny flower unless the client asks for more; I like to just do one so it feels balanced rather than overcrowded.

The biggest technical challenge is spacing the petals correctly, but once you put the dots on top, it'll all pull together and look neat, so trust the process! If you have short nails, a small flower in the centre of the nail works perfectly if you don't have much space for your nail art. Don't worry if they're not perfect; they can be a little bit messy, and the petals can be different sizes.

I personally find that simple flowers always look best. I usually do cute, cartoon-esque flowers because I think they're super cute, and my clients all love them. We'll usually do this in a pastel colour; yellows, greens, blues and pinks all look great for floral nail art.

To finish off the manicure, you need to lock it in with a top coat. After you've cured, you can then scrub with soap and a nail brush. This cleans the nail, helps smooth surrounding skin and is a super-easy way to elevate your manicure and look after your nails for that polished, luxurious finish.

If you ask me, winter-to-spring transition nails are some of the trickiest to nail (no pun intended). I think spring might be my favourite time of year. It feels like a fresh start after so many months of cold, rainy weather. The evenings get lighter, you no longer have to wear a hundred layers when leaving the house, and everything feels just a little bit better. Anyway, enough about my love for spring in general, as today I'm here to talk about spring nail trends.

The start of a new season means the arrival of new beauty trends, especially when it comes to manicures. While January and February are usually dominated by nude nails and darker hues, spring is the time to have a little more fun with brighter colours and playful designs.

So, what designs and nail colours are going to dominate in spring 2026? To help me bring you the very best recommendations, I reached out to expert nail artist and celebrity manicurist, Julia Diogo. I've been following Diogo's stylish nail looks for years, so it only felt right to get her take on the biggest spring nail trends of the season. Below, I've rounded up the six manicures that will dominate salons, from trending nail polish shades, French-tip designs and more.

First up, a super wearable spring nail trend. "Last spring was all about fresh pistachio greens, whereas now I’m noticing my clients gravitating towards earthy, grounded tones," says Diogo. I've also spotted these earth green shades on Instagram lately, and I'm a little bit obsessed. A welcome change from bright pastel colours, I'll definitely be giving this trend a go.

"We’re seeing a shift towards contrasting colour combinations that still feel refined but add personality," Diogo tells me. "One of my favourite pairings is a rich berry tone like Bio Sculpture’s Beauty of Perfection (£16) as the base, with a powdery blue like Aqua Drive (£16) for the tip – chic with an unexpected twist. It’s also the perfect choice for transitional weather, when we want something versatile."

I always love getting an expert's take on these trends, but as a beauty editor who writes about nails daily, I like to also think of myself as an expert when it comes to spotting popular nail colours. A shade I think will be huge this spring is purple. I've already spotted bright purple shades on some of the most stylish hands this season, and I know this colourful hue will be perfect for embracing the warmer months. Not to mention the fact that the purple colour trend is currently huge in fashion, too.

You know, those niche manicures that only the coolest of people know about? Whilst trends like milky manicures and white French tips have long been mainstream (and for good reason), this spring I'm seeing some seriously stylish microtrends (such as milky nail art) take centre stage. I first saw this design on some of the best nail artists' Instagram accounts, and honestly, I can't stop thinking about it. Whilst I'm not usually one for colourful nail art (I'm a neutral nails gal forever), this particular design is cool enough to make a statement whilst remaining subtle enough to wear every single day. If you're not familiar with the cat-eye nail trend, this polish has a holographic effect and catches the light beautifully. We're used to seeing this trend all over the nail, but when paired with a French tip, the finish feels so modern.

The Best Products for Heart Nail Designs

Sorry to be so predictable, but I'm committing to elegant, romantic nail looks for the foreseeable future (well, at least until Valentine's Day wraps up!). Though that doesn't mean I'm peppering tiny hearts or bows across my nail plate; while both designs are cute, I'm looking for a style that leans more refined than playful. Enter celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt's recent buzzy creation: a fresh, delicate, sheer-lace manicure.

What's a lace manicure, you ask? Simply imagine your nails swathed in that airy fabric; white lace adds a soft, elegant touch, while black lace has more of a romantic-gothic edge. Whatever colour you choose (ideally some sort of neutral), keep the pattern sheer by allowing your base colour to poke through, which ensures the overall look reads minimalist-chic. Ganzorigt chooses OPI's Put It In Airplane Mode as her neutral base (OPI Put It In Neutral) is the closest match in the UK) before applying lace foils from OceanNailSupply, which is sadly now unavailable online—but don't worry, I discovered similar recs below!

After curing your base coat (yes, you do need to opt for gels with this look), apply a layer of transfer glue (which should come with your foils), cure it for a minute, then place the foil sheet onto the tacky surface. Make sure to press it firmly onto your nail plate so that the design fully transfers—sort of like how you'd apply a temporary tattoo. Peel back the foil, and you should be left with an intricate lace design. Ganzorigt adds a ring of stark-white polish (OPI's Alpine Snow, £16) around the perimeter of her nails to create extra contrast, but that's totally optional. All you need is a final layer of top coat to seal the design, and you should be all set.

The process looks way more involved than it really is (promise!), especially if you already have an at-home gel system you love. If you'd rather leave it all up to the experts, feel free to bring a set of foils and transfer gel to your next salon appointment; there's a solid chance your nail tech will know exactly how to recreate Ganzorigt's romantic winter-lace design.
