Slowly creeping up around me, I first sensed the shift when I spotted a snap of Alexa Chung carrying the once “dated” tote during an autumn stroll through Central Park. Accustomed to seeing her with a buzzy Miu Miu bag on her arm, this retro choice stopped me mid-scroll. If Alexa’s backing it, I thought, something is stirring.

And then came the confirmation bias. Once the Speedy was on my radar, it seemed to appear everywhere. Scattered across the Instagram feeds of some of the chicest women I follow, the bag had quietly reclaimed its place in their daily wardrobes.

Despite debuting all the way back in the 1930s, the Speedy carries an unmistakable Y2K energy, thanks to its ubiquity during the noughties. There’s a playful, early-2000s nostalgia to it that feels perfectly attuned to our current appetite for throwback trends.

Twenty years after the first release on the spring/summer 2005 runways, the Chloé Paddington bag hit the runways once more for autumn/winter 2025. As soon as the news arrived that Fendi was reissuing the Spy Bag, I knew I had to get my hands on it. A few months ago, I took the bag out for a day, and fell in love, once again, with the playful yet elegant appeal of the style.

First unveiled on the spring/summer 2005 runways, the Fendi Spy Bag quickly grew a cult following that launched the bag into the same stratosphere as the beloved Baguette and coveted Peekaboo. The dumpling shape is iconic of the bag, with double handles moulded from the bag's body, and a flap closure with a secret. Inside, a hidden pocket can be found, storing your most treasured possessions close to hand.

Whilst the original Spy bag came in a series of neutrals, bold shades and pattern mixing, the new version feels like an elegant older sister. The leather has been smoothed and softened, the handles less textured, taking on a twisted effect instead. The colourways, too, show the evolution of the style, ranging from classic black to rich burgundy.

6. The Louis Vutton Speedy

The Louis Vuitton Speedy bag has a long history dating all the way back to the 1930s. First presented as a travel tote, the luggage brand expanded into everyday accessories, updating the Speedy along the way. The original was made in size 30, then came the variety in sizes to offer more versatility to the wearer. With the iconic Louis Vuitton monogramming, the bag was eye-catching, a nod to its luxurious and well-crafted origins, notes that continue with the current styles.

The Speedy has maintained its prominence in the handbag world over the years, with popularity rising every so often alongside noteworthy collaborations. The early 2000s saw the first time that Louis Vuitton collaborated with Takashi Murakami, bringing rainbow monogramming to the beloved Speedy bag and once again igniting fashion's adoration with the style. Twenty years on, the second drop arrived, and the Speedy once again was thrust into the limelight.

7. The Celine Luggage

In the 2010s, it was rare to go a day without spying a Celine Phantom bag. Welcoming in the new decade, creative director at the time, Phoebe Philo, brought a sophisticated, structured tote to market, and the fashion crowd took note. "The fall-winter 2025-2026 collection pulls into a station where all emotions converge," the show notes read at Louis Vuitton yesterday. Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton's creative director of womenswear since 2013, took inspiration from the concept of a bustling train station in Paris, where people are both coming and going, traveling to a far-off land and returning to the comforts of home. "At the end of the same platform is the hopefulness of love or the melancholy of separation," the notes continue.

The French fashion house brought together its slew of A-list ambassadors, including Sophie Turner and Emma Stone, at L'Étoile du Nord, a "secret station" that once housed the headquarters of a 19th-century train company. The show venue is also conveniently located next door to one of Paris's main train stations, Gare du Nord, adding a touch of reality to Ghesquière's make-believe adventure. The recently renovated space, according to Louis Vuitton, "springs to life anew to tell a story about transportation and the compelling dual meaning contained in that word: adventure and enchantment."

The show space started out completely dark before a slew of different characters ascended a staircase, entering the runway as light filled the multistory venue. Music by electro group Kraftwerk rang out, and everyone in attendance turned their attention to the show's 61 total ensembles. Some had an '80s look to them, while others were sportier. New and old Louis Vuitton luggage was displayed alongside a mix of bohemian frocks and comfort-first sets, and one model was even carrying a luxurious throw (for mid-travel naps I presume). Plaid, velvet, ruffles, and fur all, too, were incorporated in the fall offering.

A Collection of Characters

If, upon taking in Louis Vuitton's F/W 25 collection as a whole, you don't see connections between each individual look, you're not alone. That's because Ghesquière wanted the models featured in his latest show to represent a collection of characters you'd find in a train station. Some are commuters coming and going from work, while others are traveling to a far-off destination, ready for a hike, business trip, or sporting event. "The concourse becomes the setting for a multitude of stylistic narratives," the show notes read.

At yesterday's show were musicians like Lisa and Haim as well as actors Saoirse Ronan, Sophie Turner, Ava DuVernay, Emma Stone, Phoebe Dynevor, and Who What Wear's August 2024 cover star Adria Arjona.

Luggage, Old and New

Luggage has always been an integral part of the house of Louis Vuitton, so it should come as no surprise that, in a travel-inspired collection, there would be an abundance of new and old luggage options for shoppers to choose from for fall 2025. The sweet, woody benzoin and smooth tonka bean unfurl into an ambery, caramel trail that is guaranteed to turn heads and linger on autumn knitwear. As it dries down, it welcomes in earthy patchouli and woody, resinous labdanum, leaving behind a trail of powdery musk and vanilla that lingers for hours. Housed in a fluted glass bottle, it's as much a thing of beauty to admire on your dressing table as it is to experience on your skin throughout the day, and is bound to make you feel just as iconic as the chic women who inspired it.

2. CHANEL COMÈTE

Chanel's latest fragrance from the Les Exclusifs De Chanel collection, Comète is captivating and deeply rooted in the fashion house's lore. Gabrielle Chanel, known for being superstitious and having a fascination with astrology (she was a Leo, FYI), drew inspiration from the stars when designing her first jewellery collection. One standout piece was a diamond-encrusted necklace shaped like a shooting star, specifically moulded to sit closely to the skin. This iconic piece inspired Comète, a perfume said to capture the essence of stardust, echoing the form-fitting necklace with its skin-like musk.

The scent is powdery, sparkling and intricate, evolving beautifully with your skin's chemistry. Its notes include heliotrope, powdery iris, cherry blossom accord and a smooth, musky base. Whilst it wears close to the skin, the projection and longevity are impressive; the dry-down lingers for hours, often leaving a lasting impression noticeable to those around you. The first day I tested it, I could still smell the shimmering scent hours after spraying, like olfactory stardust suspended in the air.

3. CHRISTIAN DIOR LUCKY ESPIRIT DE PARFUM

When it comes to luxury French fashion houses, it doesn’t get much more iconic than Dior. The brand began creating fragrances in 1947, launching Miss Dior in the same year; a scent which remains a classic to this day. However, in 2021, the brand announced that Francis Kurkdjian (the very perfumer behind Baccarat Rouge 540) was to be the House's new perfume creation director—since then we’ve seen Kurkdjian reimagine some of the most iconic Dior fragrances.

The brand's latest launch with Kurkdjian? A concentrated reiteration of five famous scents from the La Collection Priveé Christian Dior Collection. These reimagined fragrances are bold, head-turning, compliment-inducing scents that radiate modern luxury. Although any of the five would be a great addition to your perfume collection, if we had to choose one, it would have to be Lucky Esprit de Parfum.

This pretty scent is inspired by the stems of lily of the valley that Christian Dior would sew into the hems of Haute Couture dresses or tuck into his pockets for good luck. It features fresh, delicate notes of the flower wrapped in a woody-leather accord that gives the floral opening impressive depth. "To me, it’s a crisp autumn walk in a bottle. Whenever I spritz this, I can practically feel the leaves crunching underneath my feet," says our junior beauty editor, Grace Lindsay.

4. BALMAIN CARBONE

One of the most exciting fragrance launches of the season has to be awarded to Balmain Beauty. The brand has just released a collection of eight all-gender fragrances called Les Éternels de Balmain, inspired by the brand’s Parisian legacy and Creative Director Olivier Rousteing’s modern influence. In 1947, Balmain revolutionised the fragrance world with the launch of the first iconic green scent, Vent Vert, and we have no doubt that Les Éternels de Balmain will carry the same legacy.

The bottles themselves are a work of art, and they feel like a true expression of how fashion and beauty cannot exist without one another, as explained by Rousteing when he discusses the fragrances. However, not even the bottles could prepare us for just how exquisite these scents are. Although we could write an essay on each and every one, from the minute we smelt it, we knew that Carbone would be our autumn fragrance of choice. This is the sort of scent that you want to wrap yourself in and never take off. It’s a complex fragrance with notes of sensual white musk at the heart, but it opens with hints of sweet rose, which almost lures you into a false sense of security before the true depth of this perfume comes through and you start to discover its darker side. Once notes of musk settle on the skin, you're treated to a warming haze of tobacco, suede and cumin. It’s bold, it’s unique and it’s truly delicious.

5. LOUIS VUITTON LV LOVERS

Louis Vuitton’s latest fragrance is, without a doubt, love at first smell. Inspired by the sensation of sunlight on your skin and the natural process of photosynthesis, it exudes a radiant blend of green and woody notes, evoking the feeling of wandering through a sunlit forest surrounded by fresh, dewy leaves in dappled light.

Crafted by Louis Vuitton’s master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud in collaboration with men's Creative Director, Pharrell Williams, the scent is intended as an invigorating well-being elixir that instantly boosts your mood. And who doesn't want that once the nights begin to draw in? The fragrance boasts impressive projection and longevity, lingering on clothes all day like an optimistic halo.

The zing of ginger opens the scent, followed a the woody green snap of galbanum before drying down into creamy sandalwood and soft cedarwood. It’s one of those uplifting scents that not only smells incredible but instantly elevates your spirits with every spritz. We applaud Louis Vuitton for bottling liquid sunshine, just in time to carry us through the darker months ahead.

6. GIVENCHY L'INTERDIT ABSOLU

According to Givenchy’s latest perfume launch, this season is not the time to be subtle with your scent of choice. The French fashion house is known for its daring fragrances, and one of our all-time favourites has to be L’Interdit, a musky-floral scent that lingers beautifully on the skin.

This autumn, the brand has introduced a new iteration called L’Interdit Absolu Eau de Parfum Intense. With an intoxicating blend of orange blossom, sambac jasmine, lavender and cardamom, it’s an uplifting scent with a strong, sensual base. Although the opening is inherently floral, your senses are taken on a journey thanks to rich notes of tobacco and rum absolute. Once it settles on the skin, warming cashmeran comes through, making this fragrance feel just as luxurious as your favourite cashmere jumper.

7. FENDI DOLCE BACIO

Fendi sent editors' hearts aflutter with the launch of seven fragrances this year, each inspired by the Fendi family personalities that have each shaped the brand throughout the generations. Our favourite? Dolce Bacio.

Inspired by Anna Fendi, who also happens to have an ochre-coloured rose named after her, Dolce Bacio takes the classical rose note and pairs it with the alluringly sweet and sunny apricot. Described as "a tender kiss on the cheek that leaves behind a faint rose lipstick scent" and "vibrant orange sunrises overlooking rose gardens in Rome", you would be forgiven for thinking this is only a fruity-floral. However, the addition of Indonesian patchouli unfurls, making this scent both gentle and powerful; a trait that Anna Fendi's daughter Silvia Venturini Fendi notices in the generations of Fendi women.

We haven't had a red carpet moment from Emma Stone in several months, so last week's event was a real treat. But experts in the fashion world insist shoulder bags are only now making a comeback. My friend who is a buyer says, "We have seen the rise of the shoulder bag to go along with the recent trend of '90s nostalgia."

"The shoulder bag offers the hands-free option," my friend told me. We saw this with the return of the Dior Saddle and Fendi Baguette but expect other classics to return, like Gucci's Jackie bag. For his spring/summer 2019 collection, Simon Porte Jacquemus (aka the man almost solely responsible for the biggest accessory trends of 2018: micro bags and that one giant hat) sent a massive bag down the runway that went viral. But alongside that bag were a number of—you guessed it—shoulder bags. Cue the Instagram set. Shoulder bags no longer live in the darkest corners of closets. They will be everywhere.

Whilst the glitzy smaller versions of the shoulder bag like the Fendi Baguette (loved by Paris Hilton, for example) have been at the beginning of this born-again trend, expect to see classic, bigger styles to rise in popularity too. To get ahead of the look now, we'd suggest channelling Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

For further proof, here we have model Bella Hadid juggling life: holding onto her boyfriend, The Weeknd, and a bag of macarons. This was all made possible thanks to her hands-free shoulder bag. It's practical, chic and can sometimes hold a book without being bulky. So how are shoulder bags only just now coming back? What have we fashion people been doing to survive without them this whole time? I, for one, am ready for shoulder bags to come back and stay.

The term "investment buy" gets bandied around a lot in the fashion world. Sure, classic camel coats and well-made shoes will see you through many years, but they're only an investment in terms of how often you'll wear them. It's unlikely you'll make much when reselling a pair of worn-out loafers.

This is why you really can put "bag" and "investment" in the same sentence. Some designer bags will even increase in value (we're looking at you, Hermès) as they patiently sit in a dust bag at the back of your wardrobe because of the waiting lists for new styles, which we can attribute to the time and craft needed to bring a single, say, Birkin to life. Other styles, such as Chanel's 2.55, just never date.

According to resale site Open for Vintage, more and more high-end designers are looking to the archives to inspire new-season designs, sparking a wave of consumers to head online to find pre-loved styles. "Vintage versions of the season's It trends become the purse-friendly option with a much lesser environmental impact," the site reports.

So which brands have the biggest resale value and therefore are sound investments? We posed this question to Nicola Ghin, authentication manager and resident designer handbag expert at The Luxury Closet. "The best performing brands for resale value on the secondhand market right now are Hermès, Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton. Brands like Prada, Gucci and Fendi offer extremely trendy options, but some styles aren't as reliably rewarding when it comes to their resale value—you need to choose wisely," says Ghin. "Trends and icons are two different things. The Fendi Baguette and Gucci Bamboo bags might be some of the hottest pieces to buy right now, but in the long run, Birkins and Chanel's Classic Flaps will always lead in terms of most desirable and best to invest in on the secondhand market."

Of course, any designer handbag purchase is a big one, and maybe you like the idea of rationalising the price by thinking about its eventual resale yield. Still, perhaps this shouldn't be your priority, says Ceanne Fernandes-Wong, the CEO and co-founder of Cocoon, the UK's first membership subscription service for luxury bags. "Buy a bag you love. If you're lusting after a vintage Chanel Diana, don't buy a Caviar Flap bag just because you think it will have a better resale value. Chances are if you're truly lusting after a bag, you will want to keep it for years to come." Wise words. And she has some more inspired suggestions on how to go about finding the perfect investment bag for yourself.

"As purchasing a handbag is a significant investment, it's a smart idea to 'test-drive' bags via a service like Cocoon so that you can make a truly informed decision," says Fernandes-Wong. "You will get a real sense for whether a particular brand is worth the investment or if a style is right for your needs. Finding out a bag is too heavy, you don't like the quality or it doesn't fit is a costly realisation to make post-purchase. You can also get a sense of how a bag will wear over time, especially if it's vintage or an older style, and that may influence your decision, too, as new doesn't always equal best."

1. Louis Vuitton

"Probably the most recognisable and iconic monogram of all time, Louis Vuitton is synonymous with the world of high-end handbags," says Ghin. "Not every design has the same appeal, and not all Louis Vuitton purchases will mean a healthy resale value—your best bets are the Métis, Pochette, and seasonal Speedys such as cérise, multicolour and denim. These are consistently in demand, and selling them means earning between 20% to 50% more than what you originally paid." Open for Vintage is in agreement with Ghin and has revealed that sales of Louis Vuitton handbags made up a whopping 35% of its total sales in 2020.

"Louis Vuitton is arguably much cooler when it's vintage," continues Cheong. "As the Y2K trend continues to rise in popularity, it's a 'safe' way for all of us to partake without compromising our current aesthetic."

2. Chanel

According to Open for Vintage, "As prices continue to increase significantly year on year at Chanel, vintage is fast becoming the chosen way to access the iconic fashion house's designs at more reasonable prices. Additionally, more and more people are becoming savvy to the smart financial investment that a Chanel bag can be, with the resale market being a great way to make a profit if you ever choose to sell on."

"In line with Hermès, Chanel recently started reducing the availability of their iconic designs to create increased hype and demand," reveals Ghin. "While Classic Flaps and 2.55 Flaps were easily accessible a few months back, now, they're not only considerably more expensive, but they're harder to purchase from boutiques. Customers can now only buy just one Classic Black Flap per year, and this has hit like a tornado to the resell business. Your Chanel Flap is worth money now, darling!"

Cheong, too, weighs in on the Chanel price-hike, saying, "Amidst the online furore against yet another Chanel price increase, there is a way to beat it: Buy secondhand. Everyone loves to talk about how the quality was better 'back then,' and I might have to agree. Aside from real gold hardware pre-2008, I've seen leather shoes and bags from the early 2000s that have retained their integrity so well you would've thought it was a new-season style."

3. Dior

"Dior's 1969 oblique design came back in a big way in the brand's 2020 collections, and in turn, we saw sales for our vintage oblique designs spike significantly," says Open for Vintage.

"The oblique is undeniably cool," reaffirms Cheong. "Even if you're not so into obvious logos, the fact it has returned with full force and retains its covetability is a testament to the design. The colours are also neutrals that go with everything no matter the season. Think navy blue and burgundy as the most popular iterations. However, if it's your first bag purchase and this really isn't your style, I would suggest the Lady Dior instead. It's iconic."

"Dior is living a new golden era, playing with the two key elements of the Maison: Cannage (the motif coming from Napoleon III–style cane chairs composed of wood and cane webbing) and the iconic Dior Oblique pattern," says Ghin. "Lady Dior and Saddle are the among the most coveted and demanded bags in the secondhand market, owning to their practicality and classy design."

4. Gucci

"Gucci's increased injection of its 'retro' Horsebit detail in its collections meant that we saw our vintage collection become more in demand again, with the Gucci Jackie comeback particularly fuelling this," notes Open for Vintage. Indeed, the revival of the Jackie seems to have caught Cheong's attention, too. "Gucci is one of those brands that have seen an incredible transformation over the last decade," she says. "Jackie is my favourite silhouette. Its allure as a day-to-night bag is as strong as ever. Plus, I've heard that the vintage styles come roomier, which is a convincing option compared to the newer version, which I love but really doesn't fit a lot."

5. Prada

"Prada's Nylon bags are another hot topic on the internet. Is it worth it to pay £1400 for this?" muses Cheong. "If you're enamoured by its early 2000s vibe but shudder at the price tag, luckily for you, there are plenty available secondhand. Win win."

She's not wrong. According to Vestiaire Collective, the Prada Nylon bag has seen sales increased by 150% YoY, with the style being re-released by the brand in a variety of vibrant shades and finishes, many of which you can find on the resale site.

6. Hermès

"Quintessentially chic, iconic, and incredibly valuable, all Hermès handbags are made with the best craftsmanship and materials," attests Ghin. "Did you know that Birkins are better investments than stocks? While gold and stocks are volatile by definition and might give you a financial rollercoaster, Birkin bags have increased in value by a small and constant percentage over the past 35 years. Their demand is constantly growing, all the while their availability is becoming less and less. Birkin, Kelly and Constance are the magic trio from Hermès and are worth investing in if you can, as all three will allow you to earn a considerable profit if you ever decided to sell them."

"I'm a Kelly girl, but I'd never say no to a Birkin," says Cheong. "These are the holy grail of the bag world, despite what Beyoncé says. (Sorry!) However, the Herculean tasks we're expected to perform before being offered one of these don't quite appeal to me. And with the Hermès quality held in such high esteem, there is no reason not to try finding the exact size, colour and leather you want through a resale site."

The term "resort" clothing is confusing for plenty of people—even those who know about fashion. For example, many know the difference between spring/summer and autumn/winter and when each collection becomes available to buy. You also know your Vetements from your Off-White. You worship at the altar of Alessandro Michele and Gosha Rubchinskiy. But you still find yourself scratching your head when it comes to resort collections. What are they for exactly? Who even shops them? And do you actually have to be in some sort of resort to wear the aforementioned pieces? We've answered these questions so you can confidently say you know what they are. 

Resort, also sometimes referred to as "cruise," is admittedly a little strange, not least because it's no longer about being in an actual resort. And it's not about getting on a cruise ship either (well, not unless you wanted to). Originally, the resort or cruise collection was created for those lucky souls who needed separate updated wardrobes for their holidays that would fall around the end of the year. It was a way for people to get ready for a fancy vacation (think those headed for Mustique or St. Barts) with fancy clothes when everything else in the stores would traditionally be catering to winter weather.

Traditionally showcased in May, these collections used to scream out "holiday clothes" in the most literal sense: all gladiator sandals and striped tops with a noticeable influence from nautical fashion. However, these days, resort clothing has moved on somewhat and now it's more of an extra drop of newness between winter and spring that does cater to the vacationing folk but also to anyone looking to pick up some clever transitional wares. Thanks to a broadening clientele all over the world, just summer clothes would mean at least half a hemisphere wouldn't be able to wear the pieces, so these days the collections even contain cosy outerwear.

What's more is that these more commercially focused ranges have resulted in buyers seeing a greater return on their investment—the pieces are also on the shop floors for longer, which naturally generates more sales over time. This means stores are ploughing a significantly larger chunk of their money into resort orders, and there it's no surprise to find that the resort catwalk shoes are becoming a far bigger deal.

Of course, it's not just that the designers have invested in creating new collections and committed to showing them on a catwalk, there's a whole strategy that revolves around creating a buzzy grand spectacle to amplify the message. From Chanel's Ancient Greek extravaganza in 2017 to Dior taking over Blenheim Palace in 2016, they're becoming as memorable (if not, more so) than the traditional shows during September and February. We all know keeping it cool in winter can be pretty tricky. And who isn’t super excited about wearing winter coat coats, knits, and boots when the first days of autumn start to show their wonderful colours? (Even if we do get tired of wearing the same pieces over and over again while struggling with winter-burdened, ghostly skin.)

But rest assured, I’m here to help you solve that problem. Ahead, I’m laying out three key rules to follow if you want to tap into French style. I’ll also tell you which popular pieces you’ll never see Parisians wearing in the winter, as well as the staples everyone needs to own. Let’s dive into winter styling à la Française!

Rule number one: Don't give in to too comfortable pieces

I know—Uggs are comfortable. But would Catherine Deneuve wear Uggs? I’m guessing you already know the answer. When it’s been cold for months and the days stay short, it can be tempting to leave the house in a puffer coat and winter beanie. But if you want to follow the French rules of winter styling, it’s best to leave these pieces at home. On a more serious note: I find that for me, placing style over comfort motivates me because it makes me feel good about myself.

I know it sounds weird, but I believe the key to the cool French-girl vibe is to neither overdress nor underdress. Always ask yourself: What would Catherine Deneuve wear? As a side note, this tip only works for those who live in the city. I wouldn’t recommend wearing heels in the countryside. I’m not that cruel.

Rule number two: Try not to accumulate winter accessories 

This is much easier said than done. While it’s fun and easy to go accessory-free in the summer (since you’re wearing fewer pieces of clothing), over-accessorizing in winter can make you look like a “Sapin de Noël”, aka a Christmas tree. (Yes, it’s a saying.)

I rarely come across women wearing the full winter package in the streets of Paris (oversize beanies, knitted gloves, oversize scarves, furry boots). It’s just too much. Wear leather gloves (if it’s really very cold) with a turtleneck layered under a men’s coat to make you appear lighter and more French.

Rule number three: Chose the perfect essentials and be playful with them

Sometimes it’s cool to be playful and wear your French basics (like a men’s coat, oversize knit, or the perfect jeans) with some fun items. To me, wintertime is the perfect season to wear glitter, velvet and furry numbers. Mix these with your everyday essentials. After all, it is party season.

Fluffy Details

Fluffy details are my absolute go-to’s for party season. Pair them with a fun pouch and some cute heels (preferably fluffy as well).

Velvet

Velvet can look so chic if paired with something super simple. It’s also perfect for going out.

Fur Coat

I love furry, vintage-looking coats. You see so many of them wandering the streets of Paris. They pair perfectly with a simple outfit. Wear one with a T-shirt, jeans and boots.

Boots

One can only call herself French if she owns at least one pair of super-cool boots.

Jewelry

And of course, pair all your outfits with some cool jewelry.

Louis Vuitton backpacks are not new, but they certainly are very now. You may have noticed the many new-season handbag collections popping up everywhere right now from ASOS to Topshop and Matchesfashion and we know there are many covetable buys to consider, but we want to draw your attention to a more retro bag on offer because the French luxury and heritage brand's little '90s rucksacks are really trending once more.

Some put the first LV-stamped backpack comeback down to Kanye West around 2014. Then, the rapper and self-anointed "Louis Vuitton Don" wore the larger styles—iterations of which (that look far more minimalistic and sci-fi-inspired) are present on the LV Cruise 2019 runway. However, the baton has since been passed around the A-list circuit with the smaller versions, such as the Palm Springs, proving to be most carried; practical, durable (that's to the many coated finishes available) and suitably statement-making, despite its miniature proportions, this number is trending. The likes of Rihanna, Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin have each been snapped wearing their chosen monogrammed iteration of this throwback.

The street style set is, of course, not lagging behind on this one. We've spotted many a monogrammed mini backpack (the signature canvas is actually called Damier, FYI) on the walks between fashion shows in every major capital. New styles abound and keep those who like their purchases box-fresh feeling well looked-after, but right now the resale market for LV's backpacks is thriving too: a cursory search on Vestiaire Collective throws a whopping 2060 results your way. You can buy vintage options for about the half the price and second-hand newer styles for a similar price to the original RRP: meaning this is one bag that is actually a mighty investment despite its size.

It’s Resort 17 time, which in modern fashion speak basically translates as the period where the world’s biggest houses up sticks and transport their style-set world across the globe for ever more immersive and lavish experiences.

We’ve already witnessed Chanel in Cuba, and Dior is about to stage a grand runway in the British countryside at Blenheim Palace. But yesterday Louis Vuitton and the Parisian fashion house’s artistic director, Nicolas Ghesquière, made Rio de Janiero, Brazil, their port of call and, as a result, the very epicentre of everything important in the fashion world.

Providing us with an inside line on this seriously chic adventure is Sofie Valkiers of Fashionata. The über-blogger is no stranger to jet-setting around the globe in the name of style, but with helicopter rides, a seriously starry FROW (yes, she really did bump into Jaden Smith at the designated hotel’s breakfast buffet) and the opportunity to even hit the beach, this was a particularly dreamy opportunity. The fashion industry's relationship with logos, branding and monogramming is a bit of a love/hate one. Right now these stamps are back in town—in a BIG way—but for a long time the idea of wearing conspicuous marks of any label was considered gauche and cheap. That was way back when stealth minimalism seized the runways (hello Phoebe Philo's debut Céline collection in 2009!) and even handbags only whispered of their design homeland in the smallest, subtlest ways.

A few seasons ago, radical upstarts started hijacking the recognisable motifs and brand names of our visual style culture, using them to emblazon cheeky novelty goods, and the slogo—that's a hybrid slogan and logo—was born. Take Brian Lichtenberg's Homies or Ballin tees—both a naughty take on Hermès and Balmain, both flew out of stores.

Now high-fashion designers have done a 360, reclaiming this important part of a brand's DNA for themselves. Meaning that for S/S 16 J.W.Anderson printed Loewe's name all over dresses and sporty bags, Chanel had plenty of signature double CC action covering dresses and accessories alike, and Nicolas Ghesquière employed his fashion house's classic logo for LV-monogrammed biker jackets—as well as bags and shoes—at Louis Vuitton.

Then there are the creatives who are taking more common logos and reinterpreting them—buzzy brand Vetements is offering you a yellow DHL T-shirt (it's already sold out in two sizes!) or the fact that luxury e-stores like Net-a-Porter have Nike swooshes or Adidas Originals trefoils nestled amongst traditionally high-fashion wares.

The take out? You can wear whatever logo you want—ironic or seriously runway. Scroll down to see the best in the business right now…

Last year the fashion industry managed to finally shake off the idea that it functions solely on the lifeblood of the young. A desire for newness will never fade but real diversity did rule campaigns, runways, collections and styling. We saw the hippest octogenarian Joan Didion front a Céline campaign. The powerful ‘plus size’ retail faction was endlessly—and rightly—debated over but also better catered to with new and established brands stepping up to the bar. Normcore became so normal the word almost endangered itself. Transgender models rose to the fore and relatively mainstream brands got on board with gender fluidity—& Other Stories created a high-street capsule collection purpose-built for both sexes.

So what’s the mood for spring 2016? Well, we’re only at the early stages of editorials and campaigns for the year, but it would appear that young—super young—is back on the agenda. And diversity is diversity after all, so who are we to exclude them?

Louis Vuitton snared Jaden Smith, son of Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith and modern-day Instagram favourite, to model alongside a pink-haired robot called Lightning that was digitally crafted to match LV’s cyber vibes for the S/S 16 collection and is technically even younger than the models.

Meanwhile, Chanel favourite Lily-Rose Depp has bagged the cover of Love magazine and 17-year-old American model Lucky Blue Smith joins Kylie Jenner on that top spot at Elle.

It’s a good time to be a teenager in fashion land, whether you are well-connected offspring or not. Here is who we'll be watching this year…

Like her singer/model mother (Vanessa Paradis), Lily Rose is already somewhat of a Chanel ambassador. With Johnny Depp as her father, incredible cheekbones, perfectly insouciant glares, an excellent girl squad and a much-watched Instagram account, her divinity is not to be questioned.

The 17-year-old Utah-born, peroxide-blond Lucky Blue has been voted as Models.com Male Model of the Year, can boast a huge social media following and takes up the cover slot of Elle magazine alongside Kylie Jenner this month. He was first scouted aged 10. Google it. 

Ella, 19, is a British actress making moves for the big time with three major titles coming up this year, including a new Tarzan flick. Teen Vogue staked their claim early on, shooting her in a fashion editorial of young Hollywood stars in 2010.

Her name may not give it away but the genetic signatures might... This ridiculously good-looking 14-year-old is supermodel Cindy Crawford's daughter (her father's name is Rande Gerber, see?). She has already picked up the campaign baton from her mother, becoming the face of Young Versace, and, of course, she made her Teen Vogue debut—a year ago. 

Argentine-Anglo-American Anya, 18, was the talk of last year's Sundance festival for her debut role in The Witch. She has already been invited to the Miu Miu FROW and duly decked out in Miu Miu to boot... so could a brand campaign be around the corner? The brand does hold an impressive track record for featuring the next big thing.

With her blonde buzzcut—created initially for an Alexander McQueen job—it was impossible to miss the striking beauty of British model Ruth Bell,19, during the last round of fashion shows. All of the major houses booked her to walk and she's since been in a Saint Laurent ad, which is basically as close to an official stamp of coolness as you can get.

As previously mentioned above, Jaden, 17, has just nabbed himself the pretty prime spot of being in a Louis Vuitton campaign. The rapper and actor is very close to America's most powerful fashion family—the Kardashian-Jenners—and his quirky sense of style is well documented across the Internet.

Nineteen-year-old British model Poppy has been called out by CR Fashion Book as a top new face, Models.com has her sitting pretty in their Hot List, she has become something of an obsession over at ASOS HQ and we very much enjoyed seeing her during the Shrimps presentation at London Fashion Week. Cute. Cute. Cute.

In reality, it’s far more exciting to see FKA twigs and Robert Pattinson’s names on the VIP guest lists for a chi-chi party because there’s always an air of unpredictability about what they do, say, and how will they make a straight-edge designer look that little bit quirky.

Shaking off his teen heartthrob looks, Pattinson has embraced his fiancées love of eclectic style and taken to shaving shapes in his hairline and dappling with neckerchiefs. As Twigs scooped up the Fashion Influencer Award at the 2015 British Fashion Awards, the industry has been taking even more note of what the music and style renegade wears.

After working in the fashion world for a fair amount of time, you start to notice trends among the women who inhabit it. There are certain items everyone seems to own and wear regularly—and we aren't the only ones who think so.

We enlisted the help of our resident stylist Marissa Webb to help decipher what those universally beloved items are in the fashion industry.

"It's really impossible to speak for every other woman in the fashion industry, of course, but they are a few items I've spotted frequently on many," Webb confided.

After all, we spend a lot of time on our feet!

Every fashion girl has a favourite perfume! I usually gravitate toward more-masculine scents.

We all need that perfect cosy trench coat for travel. In my opinion, a longer version is better because there are multiple ways to style it.

We need a go-to third piece like a cashmere sweater, cape, or slouchy blazer for cold days in the office, studio, or aeroplane.

Personally, I love mine for days when I just look exhausted! I stock up on different frame options for diversity.

Nice but functional luggage is important because we spend a lot of time travelling. Luggage that's physically attractive is great, but more importantly, it needs to function properly.

Although much has been made already of Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2016 show in our favourite vacation spot of Palm Springs, it seems that one epic detail went unnoticed by the masses. It turns out that there were Louis Vuitton–branded bandages decorating the models' dainty figures, as was discovered by none other than ruthless fashion investigator Julie Zerbo of The Fashion Law.

It’s safe to say that this direction, under Nicolas Ghesquière, is a new one for the brand—though we appreciate that his love for all things quirky equals that of the previous creative director, Marc Jacobs. As for whether or not they’ll be on sale to the public, only time will tell—but we’ve got our fingers crossed! We’re calling it now: If manufactured for sale, Louis Vuitton Band-Aids will be THE coolest in-the-know items of 2016.
