Spotted just this week on Emma Watson, who wore a pair whilst venturing out in Lake Como this week, the actor swapped flimsy flip-flops for ankle-strap sandals in the chicest shade of brown.

If you've been following the flat-shoe revival of the past few years, you'll know that ballet flats burst onto the scene a few years back, edging out heels in the process. As the trend evolved, studded, suede and satin iterations joined the mix, then, eventually, woven and perforated styles gained momentum too as brands continued to reimagine the classic silhouette.

Now, for summer 2026, Emma Watson has introduced me to a chic shoe trend breaking through next. Following the woven ballet-flat movement that's dominated recent seasons, Watson stepped out in Venice wearing a pair of huarache flats. Hailing from Mexico, the traditional shoes feature a woven, closed-toe design that falls inbetween a fisherman sandal and a leather loafer. Offering all the polish of a classic loafer with a breezier, more relaxed feel, the style feels perfectly suited to the warmer months ahead.

For a stroll through Venice's streets, Watson paired the traditional shoes with a Pink City Prints Pyjama Set (£145). From there, she stacked on a beaded necklace and finished with a charming pair of cherry earrings.

As far as style muses go, in my opinion, Emma Watson stands above the rest. There's something about the actor's refined, preppy aesthetic that always feels fresh and just ahead of the trend curve.

That said, these days, an Emma Watson sighting is sadly a rarity. Between being incredibly private and undertaking further study, she seldom attends entertainment industry events. Because of this, when she resurfaced at the Venice Film Festival this weekend, I was quick to take note. For a series of appearances, Watson opted for a series of '60s-inspired swing dresses (more on those in a moment). Similar though they may have been, they weren't the thing that piqued my interest—instead, my eyes went straight to her shoes: tan slingback heels.

Now, whilst I'm sure she didn't restrict herself to a cabin bag, it's safe to say that Emma was working with limited luggage space when it came to packing for her trip. Shoes are notorious for taking up room in any suitcase, so she clearly thought hard about which style would work with the majority of the outfits she was planning to wear. Swerving a more traditional beige nude, she favoured a richer, caramel-y hue, which proved to be just as versatile (and I'd argue, more stylish).

Choosing Gucci’s Signoria Slingback Pump(£840), the shoes feature an elegant pointed-toe with an incredibly chic gold chain sling. Clearly, Emma is into them in a big way, as she wore them as part of two different looks in a matter of hours, which also confirms just how versatile they are.

For her first look, she chose a powerful trio: a dill-green crepe minidress by Emilia Wickstead, which she accessorised with Prada’s Arqué leather shoulder bag in white, and the Gucci slingbacks. Now, I don't know about you, but even though I'm a fashion writer, I'd struggle to work out which shoe colour would work with such a statement shade. Emma, however, nailed it in one with her tan pair.

For her second ensemble, Watson wore the same shoes again, this time pairing them with a Gucci monogrammed shift dress. With the print taking centre stage, she handled this tricky styling moment with ease by grounding the bold pattern with those elegant tan slingbacks.

These expertly styled looks got me thinking about just how handy this shoe style is—if it works with both busy prints and vivid colours, there's barely a skirt, trouser or dress I can't see it styling well with.

A chic alternative to beige or cream, tan makes for a stylish change, especially in a luxurious patent finish, as with Emma's Gucci pair. The key lies in finding a true caramel tone, reminiscent of the rich, toffee-brown shades seen across the autumn/winter 2025 runways.

I don't know about you but, as the days warm up, I've found myself increasingly unsure of what shoes to slip into. Living in the city, I don’t always love stepping out in something open-toed, but with temperatures rising and London’s humidity creeping in, my go-to trainers are starting to feel stuffy. Emma Watson is one of my favourite celebrities to look to for polished and wearable styling inspiration. Unfortunately for me though, she isn’t one of those celebrities who we catch sight of very often, so on a rare occasion when she is spotted, you know she has my attention. And to my delight, last night was one of those happy occasions. Attending the premiere of We Dare to Dream in London, Watson joined Malala Yousafzai and director Waad Al-Kateab on the red carpet, styling an unexpected partywear look I plan to copy this event season.

On the late-November evening, Watson reached for a slim-cut, single-breasted suit set, which she paired with silver sparkly heels and a festive red lip. Though we love Watson for her classic, polished style, her looks are often dressed up with a subtle playful addition. In the past, she's opted for a dramatic collar or broad-shouldered jacket, but on this occasion, the actress let her strappy bralette peek out beneath her blazer for a stylish twist that exudes understated glamour.

As you've probably noticed, celebrities love Wimbledon, and the big matches, in particular, draw some of the biggest celebrities. I’m not sure what we did to deserve it, but this month we've had not one, but two Emma Watson sightings. Earlier this month, we had the good fortune to spot Emma Watson in a dressed up 90’s look to view the Academy Awards. To balance out this double sighting, this latest outfit is a more everyday style that we can, and intend to, replicate as soon as tomorrow.

As far as 2023 trends go, it's clear that Watson has taken the revival of '90s minimalism in her stride. For this particular outing, Watson compiled a paired-back look of white tee, suede jacket, leather miniskirt and knee-high boots (courtesy of Reformation) that could easily have been taken from any London girl's Pinterest board, or Rachel Green’s wardrobe for that matter. The contrasting textures add a rich considered feel to the overall look, and is a style that we have spotted in many of our street-style spotting pursuits.

We can go months without a sighting of Emma Watson, and then suddenly, she steps out in an outfit that reminds us just how brilliant her fashion choices are. While attending the Caring for Women dinner in New York on Thursday night, Watson opted for a classic black blazer and whimsical, almost bridal white lace dress with a cut-out back. She might be based Stateside, but Watson was sure to add a London edge to her get-up with a pair of chunky platform sandals and a studded clutch bag—the perfect balance of edgy and pretty.

Though sightings of Emma may be few and far between, we have a real understanding of her personal style. More often than not, Watson sticks to monochromatic looks, mostly black-and-white combinations, and always with edgy accessories that ground more feminine pieces. It's official—skinny jeans are back. In a rare public appearance, at the Schiaparelli haute couture show no less, Emma Watson took on fashion's most divisive jeans style with a playful take on proportions that included grey skinnies, an architectural blazer and chunky Dr. Martens for good measure. What makes this outfit so noteworthy isn't just the return of skinny jeans (though, we must admit we're completely won over); it's the impact that comes from the perfectly balanced structure of the look.

The harmony is all based on dimension, with the dramatic lapels and cropped silhouette of the Schiaparelli blazer contrasting the slim-cut jeans. With the addition of the clomping, flat-sole Chelsea boots, Watson has created a striking silhouette worthy of Couture Fashion Week.

Among the minidresses and heeled looks donned by most couture-week attendees, Emma Watson opted for a more understated style that paired classic French minimalism with DMs, adding an undisputedly British touch, proving that, at times, less is definitely more. Typically, the jewellery you see on the red carpet is so eye-wateringly expensive that Hollywood celebrities borrow them for a strict number of hours, and it comes with security to stand on guard. Last night, Emma Watson attended her first red carpet event in two years, the Earthshot Prize ceremony in London, and she wore jewellery from Missoma that we can actually buy. Watson has long been a champion of sustainable fashion, and so it’s not a surprise, given the event, that her red carpet look had a very considered message.

She turned to London designer Harris Reed, who only graduated from Central Saint Martins last year and is one of the most-talked-about names in fashion thanks to his magical gender-fluid designs. Watson wore a dress from his S/S 22 collection, in which he upcycled second-hand wedding dresses and groomswear from Oxfam, creating striking looks that blend gowns with tuxedos. Watson’s reimagined wedding dress was modernised with an asymmetric silhouette and an open back with romantic, intricate lace straps falling over the shoulders, and she wore it over a pair of black flared trousers.

As for the jewellery, she layered earrings, bracelets and rings from Harris Reed’s collection with Missoma. They’re just as opulent as any of his designs, with pearl, star and moon details and cocktail rings that all have an antique charm and manage to be both gothic and romantic. Watson wore two pairs of the pearl-and-crescent earrings, layered bracelets and seven of the cocktail rings, looking like she had raided a Victorian jewellery box. Known for being a fairly private celebrity, Emma Watson isn’t out and about every day. So when she does make a public appearance, it makes it all the more special. Over the weekend, Watson stepped out to attend the New York premiere of Little Women, appearing on the red carpet flanked by her equally stylish co-stars, including Laura Dearn and Saoirse Ronan  

For the event, Watson chose a black floor-length gown from Balenciaga’s recent S/S 20 collection and paired the dress with thigh-high velvet boots. Though, if you’re thinking this was your average, run-of-the-mill dress-and-boots combo, you would be mistaken. Not one to follow the crowd, Watson made this dress entirely her own, opting to tuck its hem into the top of her boot on the left side. 

Creating what would ordinarily be a revealing leg split, Watson was instead able to show off the length of her navy-coloured boots. It was a unique styling choice, to say the least, and one we think only Watson has the fashion prowess to pull off. 

In terms of hair and makeup, the actress opted for a messy top-knot and bold lip. Emma then finished her look with a shell-shaped clutch, also by Balenciaga.

Her three-piece tailored suit (seriously, Gareth Southgate's waistcoat trend is stretching far and wide) was a vintage look provided by Wimbledon's fashion sponsor, Ralph Lauren, and it instantly brought a '70s fashion icon to mind: Bianca Jagger, who was well-known for wearing this combination back in the day. Jagger is usually referenced when it comes to the all-white suit trend, and she still wears them to high-profile events today.

In addition to that, our beady eyes also noticed that Emma shares an accessories label in common with Meghan Markle, as well as a penchant for white wide-leg trousers. Both ladies chose hats from the French millinery brand, Maison Michel.
