If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably started mentally mapping out your partywear wardrobe—taking stock of the pieces that can handle the demands of the busiest time of year, while noting any spots that still need to be filled. For me, the stumbling block came when I reached the shoes. My trusty slingbacks are feeling a little tired, and my pointed-toe pairs don't carry the party-ready energy I'm trying to channel, so I've been keeping an eye out for any emerging trends to plug this important gap.

Suddenly stumbling upon the inspiration I was craving, I’ve noticed a series of bow-adorned heels on some of the chicest dressers this season.

Take Elizabeth Olsen's latest look, for instance. Styling a longline skirt, double-breasted blazer and letterbox-red bag, her outfit was perfectly balanced by the soft, feminine touch of her shoes—a little flourish that gave her ensemble a distinctly festive edge.

Similarly, Meghan Markle paired sleek black separates with bow-detailed heels. Her minimalist turtleneck and fluid skirt might have read as understated, but the delicate bow added a dose of playfulness, injecting personality into her refined ensemble.

As very frequent flyers, this particular style set has come to master the art of dressing for the skies. Choosing sleek silhouettes with comfort in mind, I'm usually inspired after a good scroll. Having come to understand the anatomy of a great airport look with the help of my favourite celebrities, I can now appreciate that shoes are the most important part of any airport ensemble.

To give your look a casual edge, follow Zoe Saldaña's lead and style your loafers with baggy jeans, a cosy cardigan and a warm layer on top.

Style Notes: The best shoe to wear through security by a mile, backless clogs are your friend for the airport. Though they're comfortable and easy to take off, I'd recommend avoiding styles with metal buckles if you don't want to have to add them to your tray. If that doesn't faze you, I have one thing to say: Birkenstocks.

5. PULL-ON BOOTS, AS SEEN ON ELIZABETH OLSEN

Style Notes: Winter calls for excellent boots, but with the faff of buckles and zips, they're not always the most practical to wear to the airport. Luckily, chic pull-on styles have been trending this season, and Elizabeth Olsen's pair have inspired me to shop some for myself.

As all frequent flyers will know, there is a hierarchy when it comes to airport attire. Sitting at the top is cosy, comfortable knitwear and sitting at the bottom is stiff, tight denim. On the footwear spectrum the same thing applies—some shoes are more up to the task than others. Whilst some celebrities opt for the least practical airport shoes imaginable—I'm looking at you and your leggings/heels hybrid Victoria Beckham—others take an equally stylish but far more appropriate approach to in-flight style.

Falling into the latter camp, actor Elizabeth Olsen arrived at JFK airport yesterday wearing simple yet sensible pull-on ankle boots.

As almost every trip through security for myself has involved the removal of my shoes to pass through the body scanner, this is a topic that I feel very passionate about. However, in the winter months, chances are you'll need much more in the way of coverage than a flimsy ballet pump. In my years of flying I've learnt that pull-on ankle boots are the best for any autumn/winter airport moment. Easy to slip on and off with no fiddly buckles, zips or laces to slow you down, this practical boot trend even usurps strappy sandals, and heeled mary janes in my opinion.

The perfect boot for pairing with a fuzzy cashmere socks, you also won't be forced for step through the airport barefoot when you inevitably have to remove your boots.

Pairing her chunky shoes with straight leg jeans and a light brown blazer, Olsen accessorised with simple black sunglasses and a large weekender bag. With a lug sole detail, Olsen's chunky boots were also enough to protect her from the puddle adorned pavements that are everywhere this time of year.

Getting bangs is a rite of passage in so many people’s lives, whether it’s done on a whim or after months of decision-making. "A straight across, blunt-style bang is best for a heart-shaped face,” recommends Scarlett. Don’t be afraid to go bold—a strong chin and cheekbones balances the hairstyle, as Rashida Jones demonstrates.

Face Shape: Square

Embrace the curtain bang. "A center-parted, softly feathered ‘Bardot’ bang is most suitable for square-shaped faces,” explains Scarlett. Alexa Chung’s now-iconic soft bangs should be at the top of your Pinterest board.

If You Have a Small Forehead

Yes, you can get bangs! "For smaller foreheads, recommend that the bangs start further back on the hairline to give the illusion of a larger forehead,” explains Scarlett. Hannah Simone's fringe is a perfect example; her blunt style is set slightly past her hairline to allow for a little extra length.

Last night, Chanel hosted its annual lunch at the Tribeca Film Festival, and naturally, the room was filled with two-tone pumps, tweed suits and quilted handbags. Elizabeth Olsen's outfit stood out from the Chanel crowd, however, as she wore the ultimate party outfit for girls who hate dressing up. The Olsen sister wore an everyday white T-shirt and black skinny jeans, but then made it her own with a sweeping embroidered evening coat and two-tone Chanel backless mules with a single pearl on each heel. This outfit proves that you can wear skinny jeans to any occasion, which is something to bear in mind come December.
