Working as a beauty editor, I come across several new beauty products on my desk, but there are a select few that go on to become modern icons. They are the ones that beauty editors and lovers alike agree will stand the test of time in the beauty hall of fame. I'm talking the likes of Chanel Les Beiges Cream Bronzer (I'll never, ever be without it), Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 (made TikTok famous for its expensive-smelling connotations) and Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo, which just about every beauty editor swears by.

However, when it comes to the best lip oils, nothing is more popular than Dior's lip oil. With 773 million views and counting on TikTok, I'm certain that we can now declare it a modern beauty icon, with several brands jumping on the bandwagon to create their own dupes.

But at £33, I will admit it's certainly not the cheapest of lip oils around. So is the Dior Lip Glow Oil *actually* worth the hype? I decided to put it to the test to find out.

Dior Lip Oil Review:

The Formula

For this review, I tried the shade Rosewood, which is a sheer muted pink. There are several other elegant lipstick shades in the collection, ranging from transparent to pink to coral and deep burgundy. So there is an option for every skin tone and lip colour preference.

First things first, we need to talk about the formula. I personally feel that no other lip oil is as good as this one. The Dior Lip Glow Oil is enriched with cherry oil, which is particularly hydrating and leaves lips coated in a glossy lacquer that is neither sticky or greasy. It feels midway between a gloss and one of the best lip balms, making it a great addition to keep in your handbag. And who wouldn't want to pull this luxe vial out of their bag? The packaging looks and feels chic, closing with a satisfying click as you twist the lid. It has a sweet yet minty scent, which isn't overwhelming by any means, it's only really noticeable if you hold it up to your nose.

The Application

Now, this might be my favourite part about the product. The formula actually reacts with the moisture in your lips to leave you with a subtle tint upon application. But, it lasts well after the gloss has worn off, leaving you with a pretty stain hours later. Perfect if like me, you're quite low-maintenance with lip products and want a touch of colour without the faff of reapplying a lipstick. That being said, I enjoyed using this so much that I did top up every couple of hours to enjoy the hydrating and glossy effects.

It feels so luxurious to apply, partly due to the formula, but also the oversized doe-foot applicator, which is so cushiony that it hugs the lips as you swipe it across. It feels silly to get excited about an applicator, but trust me—it's a luxurious experience.

As you can see, the initial result is very glossy, and it has already given my lips a touch of colour. This lasted for an hour or so before most of the gloss started to disappear after eating and drinking. However, my lips still felt so hydrated. And as someone who always, always has dry lips (I'm never more than two metres away from a lip balm at any given point) this is somewhat of a miracle. I also liked that my lips still had a hint of colour to them (see below) even after the initial sheen had worn away.

So is the Dior Lip Glow Oil really worth it? If you're asking me, it's a hell yes. It's safe to say that I'm a Dior Lip Glow Oil convert. Not only is the formula beautiful, but I love the subtle tint and hydration that it gives my dry lips. I'll be considering what other shades to get next—scroll ahead to see the ones I'm shopping.

If, like me, you've already binged the entirety of Netflix's Bling Empire, you're probably still thinking about the OTT outfits and extravagant jewellery. Giving us a glimpse into a world where Gucci-filled claw machines are a normal part of 1st birthday parties and Dior personal shoppers make house calls, complete with racks of new-season clothing, Bling Empire offered the perfect dose of lavish escapism (which is precisely what I needed entering yet another week of lockdown). 

Even after spending years working in the fashion industry, the concept of haute couture and fine jewellery still feels like another world, reserved for celebrities attending Cannes Film Festival or nominees at the Oscars. Though for this very particular set of wealthy Angelenos, bespoke buys practically come with the territory.

Whether attending a dinner party, spa day, or yoga class, the cast of Bling Empire was basically always dripping in designer wears, and this eccentricity (though often impractical) is part of the reason I couldn't stop watching. Heiress Anna Shay was rarely seen without her Dior slingback heels, while Christine Chiu made her love of diamonds abundantly clear. Jaime Xie, an influencer on the rise, donned some of the most memorable runway accessories from recent seasons (Givenchy pearl headband and Chanel earrings included), and Chèrie Chan toted an impressive rotation of Hermès bags.

That back-to-school feeling is something I haven't thought about in a long time. From brand new books to freshly shined lace-up brogues and those obligatory logo-emblazoned jumpers (that were always just a little scratchy), the beginning of the school year was a moment to look forward to. Although my school days are now long gone, the recent A/W 20 collections have given me an odd sense of nostalgia, as the runways of Dior, Prada, Lactose and more seem to be pulling their inspiration from preppy school uniforms.

Complete with button-down shirts, V-neck jumpers, plaid skirts and, of course, knee-high socks, Dior's runway felt like it was made for a modern-day Blair Waldorf. Well, thanks to Vestiaire Collective, we just might have the answers, as the designer resale site has compiled some statistics to let us know which brands are the most popular and which ones are on the rise. 

According to Vestiaire Collective, Gucci continues to be the golden child of the resale market, as the brand came out on top as the best-selling on Vestiaire for 2019. What's more is the brand actually grew an impressive 39% year on year in terms of sales volume. Open for Vintage, another vintage luxury resale site, also saw an increase in demand for Gucci. As the brand explained, at the beginning of the year, Gucci accounted for 1.4% of overall sales on the site. However, it ended the year making up around 13% of total sales.

Aside from Alessandro Michele's obvious success with Gucci, according to Vestiaire, Dior also saw a 40% year-on-year growth in sales volume, while Prada's sales also increased by 39% year on year.

In terms of emerging brands, Ralph Lauren had the highest growth rate with a staggering 234% sales increase year on year on Vestiaire, while influencer-favourite Ganni followed closely behind with a 189% year-on-year sales increase.

So whether you're choosing to purchase from the resale market or plan to buy your items new with the thought of reselling in the future, according to Vestiaire, the four brands below are definitely a good investment.

Promotional duties for films often require actresses to have multiple outfit changes in a day as they dart from premieres to photo-calls to interviews. Jennifer Lawrence is currently doing the press rounds for her new release Dark Phoenix, and yesterday she wore three outfits that can only be described as phenomenal.

Jennifer Lawrence often makes sexy choices for the red carpet, leaning on slinky silhouettes and plunging necklines. To the premiere last night, she wore a black-sleeved Dior gown with a full skirt, belt at the waist and wide sleeves, but the demure dress was spiced up with an open neckline down to her belly button. For the after-party, she wore a champagne-coloured sequin slip dress with an open back and '90s spaghetti straps so thin they look like floss.

But the outfit that really got our attention was her white cropped T-shirt that she wore with a chili-red leather midi skirt with a slight pleat. She paired it with a number of chain necklaces, her trusty circular Ray-Bans and a pair of ankle strap leather black sandals.

Vintage pieces becoming more popular on Instagram is a fabulous trend in the right direction for sustainable fashion. However, there are also a few purely selfish reasons for investing in vintage designer pieces. There are few bags that define a decade quite like the 00's-era Dior saddle bag. Now you can finally wear the bag you wanted way back in 2000. 

Could February 2019 hurry up already? The news has arrived that the Victoria and Albert Museum is set to host a phenomenal Dior exhibition. Everyone we know in fashion is now wishing their lives away, waiting for the Parisian fashion house’s storied tale to be told. From the waist-nipping dresses and skirt suits of master-couturier Christian Dior’s New Look to the ultra-chic and feminist ballgowns of the current creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, this will be the most comprehensive presentation the House of Dior has ever created. It’s also set to be the biggest fashion exhibition the V&A has crafted since the ever-famous Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition in 2015.

Based on the major exhibition, Christian Dior: Couturier du Rêve, organised by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (which, as you may recall, was endlessly enthused over by fashion fans visiting the City of Lights to see it), the UK version will feature some amendments to suit the British audience. We don’t doubt that it will be as much of a visual feast as the Parisian version. So many visitors just had to share on social media, and we expect the same impact when it hits the UK next year.

Whilst Dior’s home will always be in Paris, there is much to be said about Christian’s love of England. In fact, the designer first established his eponymous brand on these shores with a debut UK fashion show at London’s Savoy Hotel in 1952. The revised exhibition will showcase this affaire d’amour with an entirely new section—including the great designer’s interest in stately British homes and gardens. It will showcase his fascination with our country’s awe-inspiring ocean liners (apparently he was a fan of the Queen Mary… who knew?) and his admiration of Savile Row tailoring. The exhibit will also feature one key look we’re particularly excited to see: Princess Margaret’s 21st birthday party dress.

“In 1947, Christian Dior changed the face of fashion with his ‘New Look’, which redefined the female silhouette and reinvigorated the postwar Parisian fashion industry. The V&A recognised Dior’s important contribution to design history early on in his career, acquiring his sketches and garments from the 1950s onwards,” explains Oriole Cullen, the V&A’s fashion and textiles curator. “The influence of Christian Dior’s design was all-pervasive and helped to define an era. In their own individual ways, each of the House’s successive artistic directors has referenced and reinterpreted Dior’s own designs and continued the legacy of the founder, ensuring that the House of Christian Dior is at the forefront of fashion today.”

As such, you will also see fantastic creations from the brand’s former designers—including Yves Saint Laurent, Raf Simons, John Galliano and others that you may have not even discovered in the back catalogue of this ever-evolving fashion house.

“Drawn from the extensive Dior Archives, the exhibition will also showcase highlights from the V&A’s world-class couture collections, including the iconic ‘Bar Suit’, gifted to the museum by the House of Dior in 1960,” reads the press release. “The exhibition will present over 500 objects, with over 200 rare Haute Couture garments shown alongside accessories, fashion photography, film, perfume, make-up, illustrations, magazines and Christian Dior’s personal possessions.”

Tickets for Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams will go on sale this autumn, so start diarising.

As one of the world’s most in-demand models, many images have been projected upon Cara Delevingne. She’s gone from Burberry favourite to Chanel ingénue and from Mulberry collaborator to Dior darling, but Delevingne has quickly proved herself as more than just a one-trick pinup. But the most enduring image of the Londoner is the one that she has crafted herself: funny and spirited but with a sensitive side. The 25-year-old quickly carved out her own identity at a time when a gruelling schedule saw her travel all over the world and quickly become one of the paparazzi’s most-stalked subjects.

Unlike her sister Poppy’s boho style, Cara was a key player in streetwear being adopted by the masses, throwing together bomber jackets with multicoloured beanies and bold striped jeans with zany sunglasses. Her handbags have always been designer, but not in a flashy way (and then she designed her own). As her CV evolved to include actress and author credits, so did her style. Tuxedo jackets replaced minidresses on the red carpet once she found her stride in the spotlight, but that doesn’t mean she can’t do bombshell glamour too. In effect, Delevingne has her signature looks, but she’s also a walking contradiction, which is what makes her public appearances and off-duty looks so intriguing.

We’ve charted the model’s style evolution below just to sum up exactly what makes her one of our favourite dressers.

Back in 2010, Cara Delevingne, a little-known London model in the making, started working the party circuit. The 18-year-old was all Bambi legs and long blonde hair, showing off her physique in a Roberto Cavalli minidress.

British brand Burberry was quick to take note of teen Cara’s potential, casting her in its digital campaigns and dressing her in its iconic trench coats from the get-go.

With campaigns for big brands quickly making Delevingne a name to watch, her personal style became more affirmed. Her go-to staples—stripy trousers, clumpy ankle boots and tailored jackets—were always topped off with a beanie for good measure.

See? It’s a tried-and-trusted formula by which we quickly came to recognise the youngest Delevingne sister.

By 2013, that streetwear-inspired look had become even edgier as Cara’s confidence grew.

But by no means was the model’s style stagnant. At the 2013 Met Gala, Delevingne nailed the punk theme by wearing a studded Burberry gown and accessorising accordingly. The result was beautifully rebellious.

Back in 2013, Delevingne showed up to Cannes in old-school Hollywood glamour: black lace, smoky makeup and lashings of diamonds.

It wasn’t long before Cara’s infectious personality and maverick style lead to a covetable collaboration. In 2014, she launched a range of hugely desirable backpacks and handbags designed for Mulberry (of which she was never seen without).

Cara’s party style then evolved to encompass smart tuxedo suits that were always worn with an irreverent touch—be it sheer shirting or nothing at all underneath.

As a top model, black is (of course) one of Delevingne’s staple colours, as seen here in an edgy Burberry outfit for the brand’s London Fashion Week show in 2015.

In 2015, Delevingne wore perhaps the most Audrey Hepburn–inspired outfit we’ve ever seen for a Chanel party in London.

Swapping the catwalk for the front row, Cara made Chanel separates look effortless for a 20-something woman as she took her seat at the brand’s show in 2015.

This smart look is typical of Delevingne: Slightly rebellious but approachable and always photo-worthy. (The model has also been a consistent champion of the underwear-as-outerwear trend.)

This has to be one of our favourite beauty looks (as well as nighttime looks) sported by Delevingne. The minidress offset with sheer tights, the voluminous cape, the groomed brows and the dramatic chest ink is just too good.

Jennifer Lawrence has carved a name for herself as one of the most celebrated actresses of her generation, so you could assume she's hardly short of access to the finest clothes. Style Notes: Once again proving her affinity for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's label, The Row, here, Lawrence carries the brand's suede tote, wearing it alongside an HVN minidress and white trainers.

Style Notes: In my head, this is the kind of look Lawrence would wear in an alternate universe where she has a 9-to-5 office job. The shirt dress, also by HVN, is incredibly sophisticated, and the brogues add practicality. Of course, as per usual, she's finished this look with a Dior handbag. 

4. Shorts + T-Shirt + Bucket Hat

Style Notes: This outfit may seem low-key, but take one look at the Dior monogram on the inside of that bucket hat and you'll realise looks can be deceiving. Here, Lawrence has updated a casual T-shirt-and-shorts look with the addition of standout accessories, including the aforementioned designer hat, a Dior bag and Mansur Gavriel sandals.

What to wear? This predicament is greatly heightened when the occasion in mind is your wedding day. Fashion editors are not immune to the bridal pressure cooker either; if anything, it adds more gravity to people’s expectations. The lead-up to my wedding involved the usual whirlwind of questions facing a newly engaged woman: What dress would I go for? How would I wear my hair? Which designer would I choose? The hunt was on for the dream dress but it just didn’t go as well as I’d hoped.

Being curvy, tall and a lover of carbs, I couldn’t imagine myself in something slinky, nor did I want to go down the meringue route. I made multiple appointments to try on wedding gowns but my heart didn’t flutter. Quite the contrary, I felt doomed to look like an avalanche of crêpe de chine. I just couldn’t find a 360-degree fit for my shape that oozed my style. As options narrowed and lunch breaks were filled up with snow flurries of manic dress searches, I called it quits on bridal pret-à-porter. The dress just didn’t exist. Yet.

The haute pursuit begins! If something is classed as couture, then it means that a piece is made-to-measure for your body. You can choose a designer dress from a collection and have it fitted exclusively to your shape. Wonderful, but what if you want to go one step further and design your own garment? One could save up £200,000 and hit the marble halls of Paris where an exclusive design is made for you from one of the prestigious haute couture fashion houses, but considering there's a minority of regular global customers, this is unlikely for most.

If you don't own a yacht or have six digits to spare, then fear not, another option is available. You could find a British-based dress designer costume designer who can make a gown especially for you. Some call it design couture—a process that includes a toile of your body, an exclusive design, a garment made in-house, and personal fittings to underscore the design process. Bridal-designers-cum-courtiers are like gold dust because only a select few fashion houses make one-of-kind gowns; the industries main focus is on ready-to-wear. I found the right one via recommendations from friends at Brides magazine, but some determined Google searches would unearth your local options.

Who What Wear UK: There’s so much to organize for a wedding day. How important is it to share information about the event planning with the dress designer?

Anita Massarella: It’s very helpful to know as much as possible. I like to get a background of the bride’s wedding vision, and if there’s a storyboard or Pinterest link to ideas then that helps me to get a sense of the couple’s personality.

WWW UK: What questions do you often ask the bride about the wedding plans?

AM: Is the day going to be formal or more relaxed? In a grand venue or outdoors? Home or abroad? Even if the bride is still forming a plan for her big day, it’s helpful to know the wider context so that together we can create a suitable design for the season. As soon as the colour theme for the venue is decided, it’s important to inform your dress designer so that it can be reflected in little flourishes on the garment, if at all.

WWW UK: It’s hard to know what credentials to look out for in a fashion house or dressmaker. How do you identify where to go?

AM: If you cannot find what you want in ready-to-wear (i.e. off-the-peg collections) then having something designed uniquely for you is a great option. Enquire if the designer can offer exclusive designs or to what extent they customise dresses. We create one-of-a-kind couture dresses but not all places do. It's also okay to ask how many years of experience the designer has. Do read the client testimonials on their social media and website; it’s clear when a brand has a good reputation. You ideally want a team that can deliver the entire package: create an exclusive design to suit you, produce the dress pattern, make the dress in-house and provide the professional fittings.

On Kate Moss: John Galliano Haute Couture veil.

WWW UK: Where do most of your brides get their dress ideas from?

AM: Mainly Instagram, Pinterest or cut-outs from society events in the back of Vogue, Tatler etc. I’ve noticed that when people look at photos from formal events, like polo or Ascot, then it’s easier to see a range of different clothing designs worn by real people with varying figures. It can be less daunting than looking at models.

WWW UK: Once you’ve found the right person to collaborate with and to make your dress, what’s the best way to kick-start the design process?

AM: You don’t need to know the fabric or design terminology, a good designer can interpret what you want by the way you describe what you like. For example, an experienced designer will be able to tell from a photo if the bride wants something soft, bias-cut and clings to the body, and billowing chiffon coming from the back of it, or if the structure of the dress needs to boned, corseted, stiff dress etc.

WWW UK: There are so many different fabrics to choose from. How do you pick the right one?

AM: Identify how you would like your dress to move and sit on your body. If you want it to sway and flow, then chiffon is perfect for that. If you want a stiff dress then gabardine holds its shape; but this where the designer's expertise comes in. Just remember that the style of the dress needs to work with the choice of fabric.

WWW UK: How do you get ideas into one cohesive design?

AM: Begin with an outline of a body sketched on a piece of paper. Drawing out ideas is a great starting point. I tend to go step-by-step from talking about what neckline would suit the client to the favoured sleeve length, how it fits the waist etc. At each stage, you need to consider how the design works as a whole and how to keep it all in proportion with your shape.

WWW UK: When the design is agreed, what’s the next step?

AM: The next stage is finalising which fabrics will be used in the lining, for the main body of the dress. This process involves looking at lots of fabric samples with your designer and exploring which shades suit your complexion. I go as far as including the bride in choosing the very buttons and hand-picking the beads that will be sewn on! You can decide which beads, what colours, what shade, what size! If you’re making a dress from scratch, you can even cherry-pick embellishments or fabrics that suit the shade of your eyes.

On Poppy Delevingne: Chanel Couture dress.

WWW UK: How can a bride get the most out of dress fittings?

AM: Wear a really good fitting bra, and the heels that you are going to wear on the day (or of a similar height) because that will affect your posture. A good designer will offer you the opportunity to make adjustments at your fitting. Do take the opportunity to amend the design slightly or be more bold with decisions, like lowering a neckline slightly or exaggerating the silhouette of the dress by asking for the fabric to be nipped in a little.

WWW UK: On a second fitting, is it a good idea to bring the extra outfit details?

AM: Absolutely! The second fitting is where you can road test all of the elements of your look to see what works. If you’re having a hair trial then come in for a fitting with the hair and makeup trial. It’s also a good chance to try out the veil to make sure all the final pieces come together. If you are having a tryout for your bouquet, bring it in at this point. Then you can check that everything is perfect. Don’t be afraid to point out details that you want to be tweaked. And when you have your final fitting, do bring a bottle of chilled champagne and your best friend and/or your mother to soak in the fun of it all!
