As someone who, very fortunately, managed to get her hands on the exclusive style days before the launch, these were considerations I kept in mind when road testing the Celine New Luggage bag. What is the Celine New Luggage Bag?

Celine’s New Luggage bag is a new expression of a storied design that was introduced by Michael Rider, the Parisian brand’s current creative director, in his debut Spring 2026 collection. Since the seasonality is one that is rooted in transformation and renewal, Rider should pay tribute to not only one of Celine’s most enduring creations but also the rich history layered into it.

You see, it’s not actually Rider’s first time at the French maison. The American designer first worked at Celine under Philo, making the New Luggage not only a comeback, but a homecoming. Setting the stage for this return, Rider decided to stage his first show at the brand’s headquarters at 16 Rue Vivienne, making it a true full circle for both the man and his ideas. The brand itself echoed this sentiment in a press release for the bag, writing that the New Luggage was “elegant yet effortless, extending the past into the present through a more contemporary silhouette”.

What is the Difference Between the Celine Phantom and the Celine New Luggage Bag?

While Celine also offers a bag similar in shape and effect called the Luggage, it’s important to note that the New Luggage isn’t paying homage to that style, but rather another bag altogether. The piece in question that derives its shape is called the Phantom. This bag was first released in Celine’s Pre-Fall 2011 collection with a black croc-embossed style that accompanied a panoply of gorgeous cream shearling coats, mod-esque pinafore-inspired mini dresses and a colour palette reminiscent of Piet Mondrian, though far less saturated. In the years that followed, it garnered several celebrity adherents, including Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow and the Kardashian-Jenners, making it one of the most recognisable and in-demand accessories of the decade.

On a structural note, there are several key differences between the Celine Phantom and the Celine New Luggage bag. It’s midday during an unusually sunny London day and I’ve escaped the office for a moment, deciding to enjoy a reprieve by wandering through the beautiful and ornamental Italian Gardens in Hyde Park. Armed with my newfound obsession, the Celine New Luggage bag, and dressed in my interpretation of a Parisienne, which includes an oversized wool-silk blazer from Henne, ombré jeans and Dear Frances’s mesh ballet pumps, I couldn’t help but feel transported to the Jardin des Tuileries in the City of Lights.

It’s not the exact effect I expected to feel when carrying a bag so functional and practical as this, but I suppose that’s the beauty of the Celine New Luggage. As the name suggests, the bag is a vessel for exploration, acting as a vessel to equip you and hold your essentials during travels. To some, this may take the form of a gorgeous work bag, while others might find the playful shape works better for more whimsical moments, like impromptu picnics or chic cocktail hours. The supple, shiny lambskin really did serve all these outings and more, which was an intentional decision made by the brand to ensure the pared-back construction and piped edges resulted in a softly rounded shape that was light to carry.

As it turns out, I wasn’t the only Celine wearer who had the inspired choice to make my way through the city’s lush and verdant grounds. During my jaunt, I spotted the very chic and weather-appropriate shearling Claude shoulder bag and the classic Triomphe slung across another wayfarer’s body. While there is the option to go hands-free with the Celine New Luggage bag thanks to an excessive strap, I personally kept it close to my chest, tucked into the crook of my elbow or in my firm grasp. (The two top handles are sadly not big enough to wear on your shoulder.) As I passed, however, I couldn’t help but have a very arrogant thought pop into my head: “I have the latest ‘It bag’ and they don’t.”

There’s a certain power that comes with being able to access designer wares early, but this definitely isn’t a style that’s designed for pomp or ostentatious behaviour. It’s not necessarily the mark of quiet luxury either, given that the New Luggage is brimming with personality. (How can you say no to that smile!)

The bag prioritises individuality, which is exactly what Philo’s time at the house encapsulated, too. It’s often hard to imbue a daytime ensemble with charisma when the tasks for the day include sitting at a desk, running around town, ticking off errands or catching up with friends over lunch. These activities can all be sedentary, so what I loved most about the Celine Luggage was how it really was an invitation to get out into the world. Not to show off, but to show up and be present.

While the bag is roomy, it certainly would be a struggle to fit the device in the bag if your laptop is over 13 inches. So, it’s certainly not the bag you’d want to make your primary work tote. In saying that, it’s the perfect shape for on-the-go ease. With a gorgeous suede lining, it’s a comfortable home for all your most-needed possessions when moving around; a hairbrush, lip balm, diary and juicy novel.

As the campaign styling suggests—and something you’ll soon notice after as much wear as I had—the bag doesn’t take itself too seriously. This means that the leather is intended to soften and fold over time. The leather is far from stiff, which will show signs of wear and age faster than other styles. Don’t fret, though, as the act of breaking in your bag and wearing “distressed” styles is actually considered the preferred style, thanks to style icons like Mary-Kate Olsen and Jane Birkin proving how elegant messy accessories can actually be. This does mean that the bag will lose its box-fresh shine slightly sooner than anticipated, but it won’t be completely free of lustre thanks to the quality of the leather.

From afternoon meetings to morning Pilates classes, I found myself gravitating toward the New Luggage even during moments when I needed to carry very small amounts. (Think: keys, Joan Didion-approved Triomphe sunglasses and a fragrance to spritz on afterwards.) In that way, I found the medium size to be slightly awkward as it was too small to carry my laptop and extra work amenities, but not small enough to be an evening bag that I could take out to dinner.

Still, and as both Rider and Philo have proven, there is nothing more sophisticated than wearing very fundamental wardrobe staples with a humongous bag. Be it leggings or woollen trousers—both appeared in Celine’s Spring 2026 show alongside the New Luggage—the effect was incredibly covetable. Styling the bag like this gives an outfit a wear of refined insouciance, or relaxed effortlessness. And with a bag whose moniker is synonymous with carrying excess baggage, I can’t think of anything more pertinent. As the brand says itself: "The New Luggage upholds Celine's enduring design codes through precise construction, attitude, and understated sophistication."

As mentioned above, these lipsticks have a long-wearing yet lightweight formula. As a beauty editor, I've tried a lot of lip products in my time, but these are definitely some of the best. When you first apply them, you will be met with impressive colour pay off. A little goes a long way, especially when it comes to the more statement shades.

Although they feel like any other lipstick at first, as the day goes on you will notice just how soft and buttery this formula is. The product actually includes 89% of ingredients from natural origins, such as oils and squalane for a hydrating finish. I have very dry lips and struggle to find a lipstick that works for me, but this product doesn't cling to any dry patches and instead gives a smooth, satin-like appearance. Yes, I do have to apply a little bit of lip balm throughout the day before topping up my lipstick, but this isn't anything out of the ordinary for me.

One thing I really love about this formula is that it is delicately scented with a rose accord and rice powder. To me, this makes the whole experience of applying my lipstick feel even more luxurious.

As someone who prefers a "no-makeup" makeup look, I was really excited to give the more subtle shades a go. After testing them out, my personal favourite was "La Peau Nue", a timeless, pinky-nude lipstick that I know I will be reaching for on a daily basis.

Another shade I loved was "Rose Athenais". This is more of a statement pink shade, and although I wouldn't usually reach for this kind of colour, I tried it on before going out for dinner and all of my friends ended up asking me what lipstick I was wearing.

Not only is it the ultimate fashion accessory for the season ahead, but the timeless design will last you forever thanks to the refillable format. With lots of different shades on offer, I have no doubt that we will be spotting this makeup product hiding in the handbags of the chicest people around. My only wish? I'd love to see further extension to the nude shade offering—please and thank you, Celine.

For many of us, this time of year calls for a seasonal scent update. As we bid farewell to summer, the turn of the leaves and the sudden drop in temperature have us reaching for our autumn perfumes once again as we welcome in these cooler, crisp days. Thankfully, the world's most esteemed fashion houses have spoilt us with their fragrance launches of late, each providing plenty of scented inspiration to take us through the season and beyond—whilst racking up plenty of compliments along the way.

These days, new perfumes and niche fragrances from independent brands launch pretty much every week, but previously, luxury fragrances were strictly the business of pioneering and exclusive fashion houses, such as Dior. Much like today, these fragrances allowed consumers to buy into a small piece of the brand, which was particularly appealing if they didn't have the means to invest in a full high-end wardrobe. Fragrance, with all of its emotive connotations, offers us a chance to experience the very essence of these luxury designers with every spritz, on a more objectively accessible budget—an idea that remains very compelling to those who would like a slice of the lifestyle these brands signify.

Many fragrance icons, like Chanel's legendary No.5, were born in the 1920s. The decade was a pivotal moment for women's style, shrugging off the dated silhouettes of the previous century and welcoming in more directional pieces like flapper dresses and trousers, the latter of which were formerly reserved for menswear. Chanel No.5 echoed this shift in the zeitgeist by tapping into aldehydes; an airy, soapy note rarely used in perfumery at the time, and combined it with jasmine, ylang-ylang and rose. It quickly became an icon in the fragrance world, and today, No.5 remains one of the most recognisable and best-selling fragrances globally; a testament to the everlasting draw that fashion houses can bring to our most-loved fragrances.

1. CELINE ZOUZOU

Inspired by 1960s fashion icons from the silver screen, fashion and literature, Celine's ZouZou is a powdery and playful scent that immediately transports you to a glamorous powder room of yesteryear. Think pixie haircuts, painted lashes and big powder puffs that send plumes of powdery musk into the air. Artistic Director Hedi Slimane desired to create a perfume that captured eternal youth, and gave ZouZou its name as an affectionate nickname (which was often used to describe women with short hairstyles) and a nod to French actress Danièle Ciarlet.

Despite being inspired by the '60s, the scent sits firmly in the present. The sweet, woody benzoin and smooth tonka bean unfurl into an ambery, caramel trail that is guaranteed to turn heads and linger on autumn knitwear. As it dries down, it welcomes in earthy patchouli and woody, resinous labdanum, leaving behind a trail of powdery musk and vanilla that lingers for hours. Housed in a fluted glass bottle, it's as much a thing of beauty to admire on your dressing table as it is to experience on your skin throughout the day, and is bound to make you feel just as iconic as the chic women who inspired it.

2. CHANEL COMÈTE

Chanel's latest fragrance from the Les Exclusifs De Chanel collection, Comète is captivating and deeply rooted in the fashion house's lore. Gabrielle Chanel, known for being superstitious and having a fascination with astrology (she was a Leo, FYI), drew inspiration from the stars when designing her first jewellery collection. One standout piece was a diamond-encrusted necklace shaped like a shooting star, specifically moulded to sit closely to the skin. This iconic piece inspired Comète, a perfume said to capture the essence of stardust, echoing the form-fitting necklace with its skin-like musk.

The scent is powdery, sparkling and intricate, evolving beautifully with your skin's chemistry. Its notes include heliotrope, powdery iris, cherry blossom accord and a smooth, musky base. Whilst it wears close to the skin, the projection and longevity are impressive; the dry-down lingers for hours, often leaving a lasting impression noticeable to those around you. The first day I tested it, I could still smell the shimmering scent hours after spraying, like olfactory stardust suspended in the air.

3. CHRISTIAN DIOR LUCKY ESPIRIT DE PARFUM

When it comes to luxury French fashion houses, it doesn’t get much more iconic than Dior. The brand began creating fragrances in 1947, launching Miss Dior in the same year; a scent which remains a classic to this day. However, in 2021, the brand announced that Francis Kurkdjian (the very perfumer behind Baccarat Rouge 540) was to be the House's new perfume creation director—since then we’ve seen Kurkdjian reimagine some of the most iconic Dior fragrances.

The brand's latest launch with Kurkdjian? A concentrated reiteration of five famous scents from the La Collection Priveé Christian Dior Collection. These reimagined fragrances are bold, head-turning, compliment-inducing scents that radiate modern luxury. Although any of the five would be a great addition to your perfume collection, if we had to choose one, it would have to be Lucky Esprit de Parfum.

This pretty scent is inspired by the stems of lily of the valley that Christian Dior would sew into the hems of Haute Couture dresses or tuck into his pockets for good luck. It features fresh, delicate notes of the flower wrapped in a woody-leather accord that gives the floral opening impressive depth. "To me, it’s a crisp autumn walk in a bottle. Whenever I spritz this, I can practically feel the leaves crunching underneath my feet," says our junior beauty editor, Grace Lindsay.

4. BALMAIN CARBONE

One of the most exciting fragrance launches of the season has to be awarded to Balmain Beauty. The brand has just released a collection of eight all-gender fragrances called Les Éternels de Balmain, inspired by the brand’s Parisian legacy and Creative Director Olivier Rousteing’s modern influence. In 1947, Balmain revolutionised the fragrance world with the launch of the first iconic green scent, Vent Vert, and we have no doubt that Les Éternels de Balmain will carry the same legacy.

The bottles themselves are a work of art, and they feel like a true expression of how fashion and beauty cannot exist without one another, as explained by Rousteing when he discusses the fragrances. However, not even the bottles could prepare us for just how exquisite these scents are. Although we could write an essay on each and every one, from the minute we smelt it, we knew that Carbone would be our autumn fragrance of choice. This is the sort of scent that you want to wrap yourself in and never take off. It’s a complex fragrance with notes of sensual white musk at the heart, but it opens with hints of sweet rose, which almost lures you into a false sense of security before the true depth of this perfume comes through and you start to discover its darker side. Once notes of musk settle on the skin, you're treated to a warming haze of tobacco, suede and cumin. It’s bold, it’s unique and it’s truly delicious.

5. LOUIS VUITTON LV LOVERS

Louis Vuitton’s latest fragrance is, without a doubt, love at first smell. Inspired by the sensation of sunlight on your skin and the natural process of photosynthesis, it exudes a radiant blend of green and woody notes, evoking the feeling of wandering through a sunlit forest surrounded by fresh, dewy leaves in dappled light.

Crafted by Louis Vuitton’s master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud in collaboration with men's Creative Director, Pharrell Williams, the scent is intended as an invigorating well-being elixir that instantly boosts your mood. And who doesn't want that once the nights begin to draw in? The fragrance boasts impressive projection and longevity, lingering on clothes all day like an optimistic halo.

The zing of ginger opens the scent, followed a the woody green snap of galbanum before drying down into creamy sandalwood and soft cedarwood. It’s one of those uplifting scents that not only smells incredible but instantly elevates your spirits with every spritz. We applaud Louis Vuitton for bottling liquid sunshine, just in time to carry us through the darker months ahead.

6. GIVENCHY L'INTERDIT ABSOLU

According to Givenchy’s latest perfume launch, this season is not the time to be subtle with your scent of choice. The French fashion house is known for its daring fragrances, and one of our all-time favourites has to be L’Interdit, a musky-floral scent that lingers beautifully on the skin.

This autumn, the brand has introduced a new iteration called L’Interdit Absolu Eau de Parfum Intense. With an intoxicating blend of orange blossom, sambac jasmine, lavender and cardamom, it’s an uplifting scent with a strong, sensual base. Although the opening is inherently floral, your senses are taken on a journey thanks to rich notes of tobacco and rum absolute. Once it settles on the skin, warming cashmeran comes through, making this fragrance feel just as luxurious as your favourite cashmere jumper.

7. FENDI DOLCE BACIO

Fendi sent editors' hearts aflutter with the launch of seven fragrances this year, each inspired by the Fendi family personalities that have each shaped the brand throughout the generations. Our favourite? Dolce Bacio.

Inspired by Anna Fendi, who also happens to have an ochre-coloured rose named after her, Dolce Bacio takes the classical rose note and pairs it with the alluringly sweet and sunny apricot. Described as "a tender kiss on the cheek that leaves behind a faint rose lipstick scent" and "vibrant orange sunrises overlooking rose gardens in Rome", you would be forgiven for thinking this is only a fruity-floral. However, the addition of Indonesian patchouli unfurls, making this scent both gentle and powerful; a trait that Anna Fendi's daughter Silvia Venturini Fendi notices in the generations of Fendi women.

Upon first spritz, this scent sparkles with the brightness of sun-kissed apricot and the earthy, smokey dryness of patchouli. At its heart lies the opulent damask rose from Turkey—powerful, velvety and akin to a warm embrace, making this a cosy scent that will linger long into autumnal evenings.

If there's two words that excite me more than anything else, it's "designer fragrances". As a perfume-obsessed beauty editor, I love nothing more than testing the latest luxury scents and filling you in on my favourites. I've tried them all over the years, from classic brands to more niche fragrance purveyours. However, when I found out that sophisticated French fashion house Celine was adding another impressive scent to its chic collection of perfumes, I knew I had to smell it for myself.

Celine launched its first nine fragrances in 2019, with the unique scents being conceived by Hedi Slimane, creative, artistic and image director of the brand. Weighty glass bottles with black caps adorned with the maison's emblem only make these perfumes more appealing, and I have no doubt that some of Paris' most fashionable apartments have these fragrances proudly on display. Since 2019, Celine has released two more scents and, in June, the brand will be adding a twelfth to the collection.

In anticipation of the launch, I decided to revisit every single perfume (and sample Celine's latest creation) to fill you in on everything from the key notes, the chic packaging and the most stand-out scents to get your hands on. Celine's latest creation is a testament to just how much thought is poured into these perfumes. As described by the brand, the fragrance is a "tribute to the sylph-like heroines of the '60s." At first spritz, I was reminded of being a fresh-faced teenager wandering the streets of Paris without a care in the world. The crisp, delicate, skin-like scent has a powdery innocence to it that will take you on a journey back to your youth. However, once this perfume settles on the skin, the creaminess of vanilla and musk creates an unexpected warmth that will keep you coming back for more. This unique fragrance is perfect for spring/summer, and I know I will be reaching for it time and time again. In fact, after trying it on my skin in the office, my colleague remarked that I smelled "like heaven". Who doesn't want to hear that? Fortunately, if you want to get your hands on it, you won't have to wait long, as it is set to launch in June 2024.

Once upon a time, loungewear was what we allowed ourselves to indulge in only when we knew we wouldn't be coming into contact with any other humans that day. However, this year, our comfiest pieces are set to be seen everywhere but the sofa. Recently trialled by Alexa Chung, the model and presenter elevated her humble Adidas track pants with some clever styling tricks.

Wearing her burgundy bottoms with black kitten heels, Chung defied the boundaries of the casual pants by smartening up the silhouette. You should know something about Kaia Gerber: She is delightfully funny. 

If her magnetic stare, in all its glorious intensity, had you thinking otherwise, I don’t blame you, because behind all that "blue steel”—which has graced countless fashion and beauty campaigns, runways, and red carpets—is a genuine sweetheart with one heck of a sense of humor. It’s your classic case of "you can’t judge a book by its cover.” Dripping with sarcasm, Gerber’s wit is unassuming and smart. It’s the kind that will catch you off guard in the best way. I know this because I experienced it firsthand during my hour-long interview with the model and actress (which took place in early July before the strike) and because it’s on full display in her new film Bottoms, the raunchy and hilarious teen romp directed by Emma Seligman. It appears Gerber, 22, has officially ushered in her comedic era. Lucky for us, she plans to stay a while.

"I’m excited for people to actually understand that I do, in fact, have a sense of humor,” Gerber tells me from her hotel room in Germany. Wearing a crisp white T-shirt (an item she admits is on heavy rotation in her wardrobe) with her brunette locks framing her face, she, sans makeup, is posted up casually in front of an abstract mural she thinks might be of Angelina Jolie but can’t say for sure. She’s been trying to figure it out for the last couple of months while the room has served as her home away from home. With the exception of a quick jaunt to Los Angeles back in June, Gerber has spent the majority of her spring and early summer abroad filming a yet-to-be-announced project. A few days before our interview, she took another break from production to open the Valentino Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2023-24 show in Chantilly, France. It’s but a snapshot of Gerber’s fast-paced life as a rising star in Hollywood and one of fashion’s most prominent faces.

Though it may seem that acting is a new chapter for Gerber, she’ll be the first to tell you otherwise. 

From as early as she can remember, Gerber was trying to make people laugh and perform for family and friends. If there were a play or musical happening in her hometown of Malibu, California, she was at the audition ready to go. Playing tree number two in the local production of The Wizard of Oz was a serious endeavor. She was an avid viewer of the classics and adored musical theater. It’s worth noting she is a Wicked superfan. "I actually think I’ve seen that show at least nine times,” she shares proudly. And yes, she is very excited for the upcoming movie adaptation. She loved watching Scorsese films with her dad when she got a bit older and harnessed a passion for international film by way of Jean-Luc Godard and new-wave French cinema. At 15, she landed her first professional acting job in the 2016 film Sister Cities. 

Then modelling happened.

A career in front of the lens seemed almost predestined for Gerber given her familial ties to the fashion industry. Her mother, the legendary Cindy Crawford, practically wrote the playbook on how to be a supermodel; her father, Rande Gerber, is a model turned businessman; and her older brother Presley has been the face for major brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Prabal Gurung, and Moschino. At 16, she made her runway debut for Raf Simons’s Calvin Klein collection, and from there, her career skyrocketed. There were the jam-packed fashion weeks, the glossy campaigns, the high-profile print covers—including her first American Vogue cover in 2021—the British Fashion Awards’ Model of the Year award, the design collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld, and a current partnership with Celine. "I got to travel and see the world and be independent and meet people from all over, and I thought, ‘This was so exciting,’” Gerber says. But even with all her success in modelling, her passion for performance never waivered. There was a creative pull, a proverbial knocking at the door she couldn’t ignore. She needed to give acting a real try.

"It’s scary when you have something that you have somewhat of a security in and that you have found success in to go, ‘I’m going to do something that has no guarantee,’” Gerber shares of shifting gears. "But I just thought, ‘Life is too short to not do something because it scares you,’ and oftentimes, the things that scare me are the things I should be doing.”

In 2021, Gerber made her television debut in the 10th season of the FX horror anthology American Horror Story as well as its spin-off, American Horror Stories. Last year, following a leading role in the short film The Palisades, she appeared in Damien Chazelle’s original epic Babylon.

Gerber compares finding the right role to the feeling of falling in love. "Sometimes, you can’t figure out why, but you just get butterflies, and something happens to you,” she says. Another surefire way Gerber knows she really is excited about something is if the material leaves her asking, "What is this?!” and "Who are these people?!” That was precisely her reaction to watching Emma Seligman’s first feature film, the indie flick Shiva Baby, starring Rachel Sennott. "I watched it and thought, ‘Whatever they do next, my answer would be yes,’” she says.

Enter Bottoms. Co-written by Seligman and Sennott, the comedy follows two queer high school students who start a fight club to meet girls and have sex before graduation. Sennott stars in the film opposite The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, another girl of the summer. A playful nod to the great teen comedies of the late ’90s and early aughts, Bottoms, which premiered at South by Southwest earlier this year, is the kind of weirdly funny, campy watch we’ve been missing in the last few years. 

"I read the script, and I was just like, ‘This is the gayest, horniest, funniest thing I’ve ever read,’” Gerber says. Knowing these scripts don’t come around very often and excited about the opportunity to work with a young female director, Gerber was determined to find her way into the movie. Before auditions were even being held, she put herself on tape. She ultimately landed the part of Brittany, the love interest of Sennott’s PJ. Not far off from Gerber herself, Brittany is usually perceived off looks alone, but if you peel back the layers, you’ll see there’s more there than meets the eye. "If I had watched this movie in high school, I would have had maybe an easier time, so I hope that there is some teenager out there who watches this and is like, ‘Oh my god—okay, there are other people like me,’” Gerber says.

Working on Bottoms was the equivalent of comedy boot camp for Gerber, with Sennott and Edebiri serving as her counsellors. She would study the pair’s every move, trying to match their comedic timing and figure out how their brains worked. The experience would end up being transformational for her—not just in building up her confidence in the comedy space but also in sparking a new passion for the genre.

It’s fitting, then, that Gerber’s next project is another comedy, the Apple TV+ miniseries Palm Royale (formerly titled Mrs. American Pie) about one woman’s attempt to gain a spot in Palm Beach high society. This time around, her counsellors, so to speak, were comedy heavyweights Kristen Wiig and Carol Burnett. The show also stars Laura Dern, Allison Janney, and Leslie Bibb. Not too shabby. "Some people go to Groundlings—I went to the Rachel, Ayo, Kristen, and Carol school of comedy,” Gerber says with a laugh. Gerber could have easily succumbed to imposter syndrome in such a room, but instead, she rose to the occasion and leaned into her vulnerabilities, saying "As an actor, you’re really only as good as the person you are acting with, and you can’t be self-conscious or thinking about yourself when you are with someone as amazing as Kristen or Carol or Laura. … It’s in the fear of failing that I think people don’t actually produce their best work. I’ve been lucky enough to be in environments where I feel safe enough to fall flat on my face.”

When Gerber’s not putting her comedy chops to the test alongside the greats, you’ll likely find her curled up somewhere with a good book. It’s not out of the norm for her to be rotating between three or four at a time—usually a memoir, a novel, a short story, or a poetry book. She is an enthusiastic consumer of literature, one who will happily ham it up with you about her latest book finds. Recent favorites include Acts of Service by Lillian Fishman, Lucky Dogs by Helen Schulman, and Terminal Boredom by Izumi Suzuki. 

"When people think of Kaia Gerber’s Instagram, [I don’t think] they expect to go on and basically see me only talking about books,” she says. Looking for a place to connect with others and start purposeful conversations, Gerber created her own online book club. Each month, she shares a new book with her 9.6 million followers, inviting either the author or a special guest to join her live. "I decided, Why not use this book club as a way to highlight authors and encourage people to read but also as a door or window into conversations that are really difficult to have?” she says. For this reason, she’s quite particular about the titles she chooses each month, basing it on the kind of dialogue she wants to spark. For August, Gerber hosted a live with author Alex Auder to discuss her memoir Don’t Call Me Home, a story that tackles being raised by a Warhol superstar and the intimate bonds of mother-daughter relationships. "I get to have these really incredible authors or people who just have so much insight into these topics. I am a very curious person in my life, and I think it lives in my book club as well,” she adds.

So where does modelling fit into all this? It’s obvious Gerber is leaning more into acting these days, but she is quick to clarify it’s not one or the other. The two can live harmoniously in her life. For the moment, she’s enjoying being more selective with the fashion projects she commits to. "I have fun doing it now because I get to come in and do really special, meaningful things with people that I have really deep, wonderful relationships with,” she says. The Valentino Haute Couture show is one example. Working with longtime friend Hedi Slimane as the face of Celine is another. "I love working with Celine because I really feel like it’s the coolest version of myself, and it’s not at all how cool I am in real life,” she says. Even her fashion choices on the red carpet, for which she collaborates with stylist Danielle Goldberg, are meticulously selected and have intent behind them. 

Gerber is nothing if not thoughtful in how she presents herself to the world and where she invests her time. It’s her Virgo energy showing. "I’m very organized and type A and focused,” she says. But that’s not to say she’s closed off to any new adventures the world has in store for her. At 22, Gerber is very much in a period of self-discovery. Having been thrust into the spotlight and adulthood at an early age, she’s essentially been living life in reverse. It’s only now that she’s getting in touch with her inner child and finding out what really excites her, how she feels fulfilled outside of work, and who she is as a friend, a daughter, a partner, and a mother to her rescue pup Milo. Even our cover shoot takes Gerber "back to school” with some of the season’s biggest looks. As our conversation starts winding down, Gerber gets a little introspective: "At 16, I was so much more confident in my knowledge about the world, and now, I’m like, ‘I don’t know anything about the world.’ … Growing up is realising how much more you have to learn.”

Right now, the possibilities seem endless for Gerber. First conquering modelling and now a whole new world in comedy film and television. What will she take on next? While we’ll have to wait and see, one thing is certain. Whether it’s that magnetic stare or her infectious charm on-screen, there’s no taking your eyes off of Kaia Gerber.

In the fashion world, every summer is defined by a dress. Last year, Zara’s green geometric style dominated the UK’s streets. And a few seasons ago, Ganni’s sleeveless sheer-sucker dress was in virtual baskets up and down the country. This year, the dress to be seen in is a pared-back style from French fashion house Celine. 

Appearing on the Celine S/S 23 runway, the black minidress caught our attention for its minimal and elegant silhouette. Embossed with gold Triomphe buttons—a signature of the brand—atop four corresponding welt pockets, the dress is sprinkled with considered details that elevate the design whilst giving a nod to Celine's Parisian heritage. 

Toning down the look, Hedi Slimane's vision sent the wool mini down the runway in Saint-Tropez paired with grounding biker boots, a grungy leather bag and oversized sunglasses. 

Of all the beautiful details on the dress, the one we cannot get enough of (and predict we'll see all over the high street soon) is the white piping that frames the garment. Celine's iteration is rendered in sequins, and this luxe detail follows the border of the dress, embellishing it with cool-girl flair and setting it apart from any other little black dress on the market.

We’re only at the beginning of August and this LBD has already been spotted on many of our favourite stylish celebrities. Last week, Dua Lipa shared images of herself in the dress in a series of Instagram posts dedicated to her European summer.

On a trip to Albania, Dua took the woollen dress to the beach—an unlikely setting for such a heavy material—but the deep open back and short length makes this a style that can be worn as easily in summer as in autumn. You could easily layer it with a roll-neck or shirt and add tights to complete the look for the colder season.

At the start of each new season, denim always pops up in one form or another, making it a key driver in sales for many designers and a growing way for customers to buy into luxury brands at a slightly more entry-level price point. But for spring/summer 2023, there is another level of newness about it. Now, don't panic—your classic straight-leg jeans aren't going anywhere, but there's no denying that they are by now considered a firm wardrobe staple and instead there are some new denim styles worth having on your radar for 2023.

For the past couple of years, stonewash jeans have been the focus, but this season sees way more flexibility in washes and fits, and the return of Y2K trends sees design elements such as cut-off waistbands, flared split ankles and twisted seam skirts take centre stage, too. 

Thankfully for you, I've done the hard work and tried on all the denim trends worth knowing about this year. So, if it's a new pair of jeans you are after, why not consider a slouchy wide-leg, worn low-slung with a pair of pointy heels? Or why not add another layer of interest with some cargo-style denim? And if jeans aren't your bag, then hit up one of the many denim maxi skirts available for every budget.

How about a denim accessory such as a bag or a pair of boots? Denim accessories are really having a moment and will easily modernise last season's outfits. For the brave among us, there is no shortage of monogram denim out there right now—from Chanel's wide-leg jeans to Celine's bucket bag (which is at the top of my wish list). Plus, we've got throwback details reminiscent of Britney Spears' music videos as in as cowboy leather patches, embellishments and more.

Style Notes: Denim midi skirts are a key trend piece for spring 2023. You would never know this Mango one was from the high street. The frayed waistband and hem give it more of a designer feel and I love it styled with a matching cropped jacket with the silver boots.

Style Notes: New-season trends are exciting, but I always need to find a way for them to work in my everyday wardrobe for them to be worth it. This is another outfit from Mango and shows how Y2K trends such as cargo pants can have a grown-up spin, too.

Style Notes: When this dress first appeared on the Zara website I signed up immediately for notifications of when it would be going live. This strapless bandeau can be layered with a cardi and knee-high boots right now or worn with strappy sandals in the evening.

Style Notes: Meet the Jozeys, Ganni's must-have wide-leg jeans. Now, I needed a larger size so they would be longer in the leg and a tad slouchier, however, they were unavailable. I tried on my normal size instead to give you the gist! I styled them with Ganni's signature sculpted blazer to juxtapose the casual wash. Simply add on a pair of heels and you have an easy day-to-night denim look.

Style Notes: This will most definitely be a marmite look, but if nothing else I felt a little nostalgic in this mesh, denim-printed top with the fluted hem skirt. I once owned these exact items, and much to my joy, I can buy them again thanks to Miaou, a go-to for Y2K fashion.

Many of us associate the early noughties with the rise of the It bag, but in reality, the concept of the designer handbag as one of the more conspicuous status symbols was introduced many decades before. The iconic Hermès Birkin dates back to the 1980s, Chanel's 2.55 to 1955 and Gucci's Jackie to 1961. Tried and true, these classics remain untouchable today. But the difference was that in the Y2K era, these "must-have" bags—which, back then, were all bells and whistles—changed with the turn of each season. Although many an editor still shares a fondness for Mulberry's original Alexa or Chloé's instantly recognisable Paddington, even the wealthiest of the fashion elite began to tire of such an expensive, exhausting and wasteful cycle. What followed was an extended period of Phoebe Philo–led quiet luxury and the kind of understated leather goods that only those in the know would notice. Logos, hardware and fussy design features were out, and subtle, practical styles came in.

"Understated, relaxed items crafted with exceptional quality will always be important to the luxury client," says Sabrina Cannon, chief sales officer at Threads Styling. "Clients are definitely more considered in the way they shop. The spending power is still there, and investment in luxury is still big, but it's exactly that, an investment." And so, in 2023, we find ourselves in a zone where the best of both worlds can co-exist to great effect. Sure, you can seek out the most trend-driven handbags if you want, but there are plenty of timeless, easy styles to carry that still come with all of the pizzazz and wow of something fresh. 

From Saint Laurent to Celine, Cartier to Bottega Veneta, the new wave of key designer bags for spring 2023 is, in fact, full of styles that could last a lifetime and feel suitable for everyday wear. There is an ease that brands are aware they need to weave into the very DNA of these designs, and the bags are meant to work hard for the money. You should be able to use them without complication, with multiple outfits and for varying occasions. Most of all, these bags need to fit into your existing looks rather than compete against them. "Luxury consumers are increasingly opting to search for items that work with what they already own over buying something new or on-trend," explains Erica Wright, founder and CEO at Sourcewhere, the fashion-sourcing app used by countless industry people and A-listers.

Following a deep dive into the handbags that our audience has engaged most with across the luxury space, there are some clear themes at play. First, neutral hues are king, which perhaps comes as no surprise when we know that tan, black, brown and grey styles provide plenty of flexibility for combining with different looks. "Our customers have also been gravitating towards a more muted colour palette than in recent seasons favouring suede materials and soft, earthy tones such as browns, beiges and touches of khaki—a shift which was prevalent in A/W 23 pre-collections too," confirms Romilly Proctor, senior buyer at MATCHESFASHION.

Second, the chosen styles for readers to invest in are often anti-trend and made up of bona fide classics, like smart shoulder bags, simple leather totes or easy crossbody bags you can throw on every day—all are easy to carry in multiple ways with different-length straps and are roomy enough to fit in the essentials. Logos, clasps and details are at a minimum, with the occasional monogram creeping in in its subtlest form, such as a beige Gucci GG-woven canvas.

Gucci has no shortage of key styles: Marmont, Disco, Horsebit, Ophidia… I could be here all day. But one particular silhouette is perhaps the most important and coveted of them all: Jackie 1961. Originally created in, you guessed it, 1961 and inspired by Jackie Onassis, the Jackie was reintroduced back in 2020 when Alessandro Michele was first at the helm of Gucci's creative direction. The designer has now left the business, and the debut line from new appointment Sabato De Sarno will arrive in September. Whatever changes occur at the top, there's no denying that the Jackie will remain current and on the arms of fashion's leading lights. 

Jackie returns yet again in a subtly tweaked form for spring 2023: The bag still features the signature lock and curved-yet-structured cut, but you'll find different sizes and a variety of colours and finishes as well as adjustable straps so you can carry it as a neat shoulder bag or with a longer strap for a crossbody option. It's the small iteration in a hardy grain leather that appealed to our fashion team the most thanks to the fact it is deceptively capacious yet looks really smart, which makes it the perfect option for a diary packed full of different events. You can go one step smaller with a mini and also size up with a large, depending on your bag needs.

Loewe's Paseo—in both its jumbo and scaled-down forms—is a sure bet for the many fashion purists out there who favour minimalism above all else. Loewe and Creative Director Jonathan Anderson's schtick for cool handbags that stand the test of time is second to none. The Puzzle, first introduced in 2014, still makes hearts beat faster, as does the Flamenco, the Hammock and the Cushion… The list goes on. All feature design details that are complex, considered and incredibly complicated to reproduce (hence the very few "homages" you'll find to Loewe bags on the high street), and the Paseo is no exception. 

When translated from Spanish, paseo essentially means a leisurely stroll, something that one could do easily with this bag because it has been expertly crafted to be ultra lightweight despite its spacious dimensions. Made from super-supple nappa leather, the runway-featured bag comes in many a tempting hue, from burgundy and camel to pistachio and acid yellow, as well as versions that feature a detailed chain handle instead of the leather piped strap. My favourite? It's a tie between the Warm Desert pictured here and the Burgundy. I predict we'll see a lot of this delightful style over the coming fashion month period, but don't let that hype moment fool you: It will remain on the arms of fashion people for years to come.

Anthony Vaccarello's Saint Laurent continues its dominance over the industry as we get into the swing of 2023, influencing everything from the resurgence of maxi hemlines to the sudden desire many of us now have for an enormous quilted shopping tote—you can blame the celebrity-adored Icare, which is permanently sold out all over the globe, making it Lyst's hottest product of Q4 last year.

The Icare will undeniably continue to be popular this year, but I'd like to draw your attentions to another handbag style family at the fashion house that has the potential to provide you with a key style you'll wear on repeat for many seasons to come: Saint Laurent's Solferino range centres on sophisticated satchel styles in a variety of colours and finishes, including a range of quilted finishes that I think will be highly sought-after. Black-and-white versions play into the archive and offer something neutral without being too plain. The YSL lock features a little catch that requires you to rotate the letters away from the bottom corner of the L—it's a quirky detail to consider instead of a simple magnet fastening underneath the flap. 

Does Prada's Moon bag look familiar to you? Well, the eagled-eyed Miuccia superfans out there might recognise this style from 2002, when it was first created at the Italian fashion house. Following the success of Prada's other Re-edition pieces, such as the nylon bags that have been wildly popular over the last few years, there is yet more from the archive that feels right for today. But really, this has always been the magic of a Prada purchase—totally trend-less (despite the fact the brand basically sets the trends). You'll find that items from across the decades manage to feel relevant and work together.

The Moon is a bijou grab bag with a top handle, a slightly padded leather exterior, a chunky buckle and, of course, the signature ton-sur-ton triangle logo. It is smaller scale than many of the other designer styles featured here, but not everyone is into all-but-the-kitchen-sink totes. If you're the kind of person who likes to go about your day with only the bare necessities in tow, the Moon is a very enjoyable solution.

Although you will find shades such as black and tan, it's the offbeat hues that feel the most Prada, in my opinion, and they're worth exploring even if they feel out of your wheelhouse. For all the basic outfit formulas one can rely upon, a joyful bag in an unexpected colour will always add a layer of interest. We couldn't help but fall for this chartreuse—technically speaking, Citreon Green—leather iteration, and you'd be surprised by just how many other colours it works with. Expect to see this style all over fashion month and beyond.

Celine's Conti not only signals the return of the supersized tote but also the styling notion of carrying them in the crook of one's arm. For the S/S 23 collection, Creative, Artistic and Image Director Hedi Slimane flourished many of the models with a slick Conti toted in a way that was reminiscent of the noughties It-girl era. Walking to a Libertines track from 2004 and wearing the sort of relaxed bohemian outfits Kate Moss and Co. would've chosen at the time, the Conti was the perfect foil to a pared-back version of this era's wardrobe. 

But the Conti isn't all flashback and nostalgia. It also works for today. Considering just how useful they are in a handbag collection, there are few grown-up totes along these lines that have been given the attention and love they perhaps deserve from design houses. First up, the range of hues ticks all the bases: tan, black, chocolate suede and more. The interior contains multiple additional pockets so that the contents of your bag won't wildly rattle around. The belt fastening is functional rather than solely decorative, and it makes this roomy shopper a secure option for city folks. Although the leather is of the finest quality—it has been meticulously selected, don't you know—you shouldn't be afraid of the fact that eventually battering it in (as is de rigueur according to data from The RealReal via Coveteur) could make it an even more charming heirloom piece. 

This particular style is currently unavailable online but you can shop at Celine’s London flagship (40 New Bond Street).

Bottega Veneta's Cassette bag was first introduced in 2019 as a modern, exaggerated take on the brand's signature Intrecciato weave and became a street style hit almost overnight. The rectangular crossbody satchel joined the brand's new-guard line-up as a permanent fixture alongside other key bag styles such as the Pouch, Mini Jodie and the Loop. All share some commonalities: sumptuous leathers, exciting hues and quirky details that set them apart from more affordable brands that simply cannot execute to this standard. 

What's new for the Cassette this season is its finish. The Cassette Foulard—aka the French word fashion people use for a silk scarf—indicates the interesting technique that has been applied to this bag's woven leather finish. The textural, pinch effect adds a further layer of ASMR pleasure to paper-craft leather, making this handbag not only a practical piece of equipment but a really satisfying one too. What works so beautifully here is that the silhouette of the design is entirely classic, but the rendering is completely new and unusual. The Foulard, which has already been chosen by both Dua Lipa and Margot Robbie, comes in a range of more daring colours that you'd associate with the new era of the Italian fashion house, such as pool turquoise, avocado, a punchy sunburst orange and gold metallic. 

The Cassette Foulard is available in medium and small sizes, as well as a similar version that features a '90s-style top handle (rather than a crossbody strap) called the Brick Cassette.

Introducing Chloé's Edith for 2023, a re-edited, ultra-luxe version of the brand's popular equestrian-inspired handbag range. Under the creative lead of Gabriela Hearst, the new iteration is minimalistic in design, featuring a rectangular silhouette that is more structured than its previous, freer form. What does remain is the brand's signature top-stitching to add texture and interest to a clean handbag that could work seamlessly into many a professional's wardrobe.

Pictured here is the medium Mocha Brown tote version, which also features leather-wrapped handles (great for extra grip), a top buckle fastening for extra security and a detachable crossbody strap. It is big and roomy, ideal for someone who wants a smart style that can hold a work tablet, notepad or other daily must-haves, for example. Chloé's Edith range extends to this style but scaled down into a medium-sized zip-top version, a shoulder bag featuring a utilitarian pocket on the front, a cross-body pouch and even a collaboration with Barbour using the brand's signature wax-cotton fabric to create a laid-back kind of tote.

Cartier's edit of luxury leather goods is purposefully concise, comprising only a handful of precisely crafted, ultra-classic designs that will undoubtedly remain in the maison's collection for the foreseeable, therefore becoming iconic, collectable and well worth holding on to for the next generation. In that family, alongside the Panthère and the Guirlande, is the Double C de Cartier—an elegant selection of handbags, jewellery and more that puts the brand's serif-style monogram front and centre.

This particular pale-pink style is the Mini Model Shoulder—an elegant flap-front satchel that features an adjustable single strap, which can be doubled up to be worn as a shoulder bag. The enamel double-C clasp can be pinched at the two bottom corners to open up the middle parting and fastened back into place with a satisfying click. Unlike some other box bags on the bijou end of the spectrum, the interior has been carefully designed to feature three separate compartments, one flat pocket, one signature pocket and a removable mirror. What makes this exact version even more interesting is the use of two ever-so-slightly different shades of calf leather, lending the already graphic bag a 3D effect from different angles. The delightful coral, pictured here, will be available in March, but there are other similar options, such as the pink, that you can shop below.

And don't forget there is the option to add embossing to your chosen style either with or without foil—chic!

Creative Director Matthew M. Williams's latest Givenchy line riffs on the biker-chic style favoured by Parisians, so it's not a surprise to find a useful everyday bag at the core of his message. We actually first spied the Voyou for A/W 22, but it was when Bella Hadid took to the runway wearing S/S 23's debut look—a denim bralette, maxi skirt and matchy-matchy denim Voyou—that things really stepped up a gear.

Adorning the Voyou is a smattering of hardware details that hark back to moto references, but what I really liked about this metalwork was that it is inclusive of both gold and silver in the same bag—meaning you can easily match this to your jewellery and/or watch without experiencing that clash that can so often come with accessories. As far as ease goes, thanks to its slouchy V-form; long, chuck-it-over-your-body straps; and the overlapping opening, this is perhaps the most casual of all the styles in this article. 

There is certainly a hint of the Y2K era with the Voyou (as there is across much of the It-bag landscape this year), but I think we can all agree this is a much chicer and more restrained take, especially when you opt in for simple hues such as black. Saying that, if you want something punchier, the Voyou also comes in hot pink, crackled silver, lime green and many more vibrant shades. 

Ah, handbags. There’s nothing that excites me more. Fashion people say you fall into one of two categories—bags or shoes—and I have never been more sure of something in my life when I say that I am firmly in the bag camp.

There have been plenty of statement brands, shapes, colours and styles that have reflected certain moments, seasons and moods over the years. The '90s were all about the Hermès Birkin, the 2010s saw the rise of the Celine (then Céline) Luggage tote, and the last few years have been cushioned by cloud-like pillowy styles (think Bottega Veneta's iconic pouch) and logo-emblazoned basket bags (thank you, Loewe). But there’s one perennial style that stands the test of time: the crossbody. Sure, it gets refreshed as the seasons tick by, but its versatility and practicality ensure it remains a wardrobe staple.

But what should one consider before investing in a new designer bag? "If you're being mindful about value over time, then do your research about which brands hold their value long-term," says COCOON co-founder, CEO and all-round handbag expert Ceanne Fernandes-Wong. "Consider what is likely to stay in fashion. Core ranges and recognisable silhouettes from brands including Gucci and Saint Laurent will never go out of style," she continues. All points that suggest a classic crossbody is always going to be a smart decision.

Is there any outfit dilemma that a pair of sunglasses can't fix? For every time I've found myself standing perplexed in front of the wardrobe, there has been a pair of sunnies to fix it. Tired and in a rush? Two years ago, a day didn't go by that I didn't see a nap dress, a term coined by the brand Hill House Home that describes its Victorian-esque cotton dresses that went viral during lockdown. Not only were people buying out Hill House Home's styles, but they were also shopping for alternatives from brands that, too, hopped on board the trend. Somewhere between then and now, the billowy, lightweight style lost its buzz factor. Now, I can't remember the last time I saw someone wearing a nap dress.

That is until a few days ago when Jennifer Lopez wore one, jump-starting the trend all over again. It's rare that a single accessory can remain a trending piece for many years but if any brand can do it, it's of course Celine. Once again Celine has given us an accessory that has been trending for a couple of years now and it's made it's yearly resurgence just in time for summer—the Triomphe oval sunglasses. The style in question is very classic in lots of ways, featuring an oval shape and hard-wearing acetate finish. You wouldn't necessarily notice it in a crowd in the same way you would a logo-laden handbag, but that's what we love about it.

Available in black, white and tortoiseshell, they've caught the attention of the fashion set, who have been seen wearing them with everything from casual sweaters and tailored coats to statement-making clashing prints. When I think back to what I was doing at the age of 25, it likely involved spending most of my Saturday in Topshop Oxford Circus looking for something to wear that night. Yes, I had a pretty cool job as a fashion assistant, but other than that, I was your typical 20-something. However, almost a decade on, with a wardrobe that’s considerably chicer than it once was, I still find myself longing for the wares of another: a 25-year-old who just so happens to be an international singing sensation and Celine’s first-ever ambassador, Lisa. 

"Who is Lisa?” is a question I found myself asking last week when speaking with my colleagues about the person I had seen sporting some seriously impressive outfits of late. You’ll have to give me a pass on this—music has never been my specialist subject. But after the words Blackpink were uttered, I knew exactly who we were talking about.

Lisa’s style is effortless but intrinsic—the mark of a true trend trailblazer. 

Lalisa Manoban aka Lisa just so happens to be one-fourth of the world’s biggest girl group, K-pop powerhouse Blackpink. Not only that, but she’s the most popular K-pop star on Instagram with a cool 72.7 million followers. In 2021, she released her debut single, "Lalisa,” which further catapulted her into the spotlight. And somehow, in the midst of a career that just won’t quit, Lisa has also found time to take on one of the most coveted positions in fashion—her gig as a global style ambassador for Celine.

This, in itself, is a big deal. Unlike other fashion houses, Celine hadn’t previously appointed official ambassadors to carry its sartorial messaging, but with Lisa, it feels like an intrinsic partnership. When the topic of designer accessories comes up, it's easy to immediately jump to the conclusion that handbags are on the agenda, but some accessories are just as much of a cult buy as their arm-candy counterparts. As my headline may have given away, the subject I'm focusing on today is designer belts.

Designer belts have always been prevalent. Though it might appear to be a recent phenomenon, you can actually trace Gucci's GG belt back as far as the early '70s. The beauty of such belts is that they're undeniably classic but still have a trend-led appeal to them. Although rooted in fashion history, I would argue that now, in 2025, the desire for owning a designer belt has reached a fever pitch. And I've noticed one style, in particular, seems to be growing increasingly popular in style circles. Almost out of nowhere, Celine's Triomphe belt catapulted into the sartorial spotlight a few years ago and it seems to be having another resurgence in 2025 and keeps following me around on social media—not that I mind one bit. It's certainly making my feed a chicer place.

The belt was introduced following the reissue of Celine's Triomphe bag in 2019 along with the rest of Hedi Slimane's debut collection for the brand. As for the Triomphe's origin story? It's very charming. In 1972, the brand's founder Céline Vipiana's car broke down in Paris right in front of the Arc de Triomphe. While stranded, she became inspired by the iconic monument's ornate chain detailing—the outline of which makes up the central part of the Triomphe clasp. Flanked by two Cs, Celine's founder immediately adopted it as a house emblem.

Being an international supermodel at 20 has a lot of perks—one being that luxury design houses create handbags especially for you. Kaia Gerber is often seen with a Celine handbag, and so in 2020, the creative director, Hedi Slimane, designed a shoulder bag especially for her.

Kaia always stays loyal to her minimal aesthetic, wearing straight-leg jeans and leather coats you would expect the cast of Friends or her mother, Cindy Crawford, to have worn back in the ’90s. The handbag, Ava, unsurprisingly looks like it’s straight from this decade thanks to its crescent-shaped silhouette that tucks neatly under the shoulder. Season two of Emily in Paris is released on Netflix next week, and so the cast are busy doing last minute promotions. Lily Collins has just worn a modern spin on a very classic Parisian outfit, offering a slightly different interpretation of the jeans, black heels and a boucle jacket look. This week has been the first time we could both ditch the coats and meet six people outside, marking the start of drinks-in-the-park season. At my park last night, people really dressed up for the occasion, wearing looks that you'd expect to see at a festival. It seems Rihanna has also missed dressing up, as she was pictured doing a grocery run in an outfit that screams, "It's summer!" She wore a printed colourful shirt with a jazzy palm-tree pattern, which is from the collaboration between Celine Homme and American artist Tyson Reeder. This print is actually a copy of one of his artworks called "Autobahn."

This isn't the only menswear item Rihanna added to the look, as she wore a pair of pink boxers by Erl that are visible underneath her ripped denim miniskirt. She then had fun with the accessories, wearing a pair of checkerboard Versace sunglasses and Amina Muaddi strappy heels with gold bangles around her ankles. While we are very much looking forward to spring, the weather has yet to get to a stage where we are actually able to start wearing our favourite spring looks. According to our calendars, 2020 is nearly here. Which sounds really futuristic, but here we are! We can all agree that the whole "new year, new me" idea is a bit tired and probably over at this point (and isn't actually that helpful when it comes to addressing our personal style). People forget that the first day of January is literally in the middle of the coldest months—no wonder we're looking for a sartorial pick-me-up! Instead of a new personality, what we really might be craving is just a refresh (and a warm getaway). We're talking about a couple of new tricks to make fashion that much more fun in the dead of winter. 

A great way to add a bit of freshness to your wardrobe is to comb through runway photos and snap up outfit ideas straight from next season's looks. Styling is half the fun of a successful catwalk moment, so why not try to translate that into your own style world?

Looking through the spring/summer 2020 shows, we've noticed a few outfit patterns we expect will start to crop up a lot come the new year. We've broken down the styling in ways you can try with pieces you already own, but we've also popped in a few pieces you'll love just in case. 1. REDEFINE THE WAISTLINE

The waistline is well and truly open to interpretation in 2020. Various designers have been playing with the body's horizontal line and the result is fantastic. Whether you go for the 1920s exaggeratedly dropped waist or something more like Molly Goddard's high-waisted skirt trick (pictured above), there are lots of contemporary ways to incorporate new waistlines into your outfits. 

The main way to interpret this runway look into everyday life is actually to play around with garments you already own. The trick as ever is layering. Layer a long jumper over a midi skirt like Lacoste (pictured above) or a cropped cardi over a puffy dress to give the illusion of a redefined midpoint. Play with volume and shapes and use colour-blocking to define the different points of your look.

2. MEET AT THE KNEE

Channelling Molly Ringwald as a style icon isn't a new concept, but it's what we'll all be doing next year—with a twist, of course! Knee-high boots made a strong and firm comeback this season after being spotted everywhere during fashion month. With Celine as the look's hero, the trend will not dissapate in the new year. In a very 1980s style, meet the hem of your skirt or structured shorts to the top of your boots.

The beige outfits we all wore are going through a bit of evolution in 2020. The love of beiges, creams and oatmeals is not going anywhere, it's just going to new places. Beige trousers are going to be the major player here. Yes, good old fashioned slacks. But pair them with something almost opposite to what you'd expect, like an oversized bright-pink knit or a statement blouse.

4. TWILIGHT DRESSING

No, not the vampire films. Picture this: It's 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday and you're in the office toilet trying to change from your day-to-night look. You're halfway between putting on your party dress and taking off your jeans and then you stop. This is the outfit. Part glam, part casual, but to the max. It commits to no time of day. It's day and night rolled into one. 

This works in so many variations. If it's a proper casual office party, you're striking right. Don't let your outfit give away your plan—be a fashion enigma.

5. THE GREYSCALE

This is a what we like to think of a nuanced form of monochrome outfits—one that works within different shades of black, white and grey. Your look is the greyscale—it's salt, pepper and everything in-between.

The outpouring of grief in the wake of Phoebe Philo leaving Céline (when it was a brand with an é, that is) was palpable in Paris during fashion week earlier this month. It's not often you'll see such emotion regarding a designer and their clothing unless they have passed. Philo has left the building, leaving behind a contingent of people who don't know where to shop next. There's even a new Instagram account dedicated solely to the glories of seasons past called @oldceline.

However you feel about the new phase the Parisian brand is going through, there will be women who read Who What Wear UK and feel equally lost. Even if your budget never stretched to Celine prices, your fashion tastes may have. Which is why I'm here to counsel you through this strange time.

Giorgia Tordini epitomises the kind of Celine look of Philo's years: looser-fit, neutral colours, interesting styling details that don't look tricksy or too try-hard.

My wardrobe is certainly not stocked with Philo's creations (as much as I would have liked that), but her aesthetic is present thanks to the influence she cast upon so many corners of the industry—cheap and expensive. I do have a couple of Celine bags (one bought in Bicester Village) and a pair of visor sunnies. I'm also one of the faithful followers who managed to grab an initial pendant necklace in time before they were taken off the homepage (so what if everyone and their grandma's chinchilla has one?).

THE ROW

Although there are definitely major differences between the Olsen twins' The Row and Philo's Celine, there is a similar emphasis on super-luxurious fabrics and construction, as well as a neutral colour palette with the occasional mad moment of colour, texture or print.

UNIQLO

You may think I've gone insane comparing Uniqlo to Celine, but bear with me. The Japanese high-street brand's simple pieces are often rendered in the right kind of colours—just buy multiples (like two jumpers so you can wear one and tie one around your neck), or size up to make something look more "designed," like a bigger men's blazer.

There's something about this Australian designer's use of colour, drape and fabric combinations that gives us some old-school Celine feels.
