Circulating in the same network of well-heeled and The Row-adoring fashion people, it seems that Harry Styles and Jacob Elordi have seemingly synced up on their preference for cult buys.

Though both their partners, Zoë Kravitz and Kendall Jenner respectively, have undoubtedly sharpened their instincts for identifying and investing in must-have styles, the duo have secretly been reaching for the same pair of viral trainers for the past few months.

Now, as Styles steps out amid his history-making residency at Madison Square Garden, he’s crossing the Rubicon and staking a claim that these sneakers are, in fact, the go-to style for well-dressed people to wear in autumn.

The trainers in question are Celine’s Flat Sneakers, a minimal shape that features a contrasting diagonal stripe and a perforated upper. For the uninitiated, the Australian actor wore a cream pair whilst out in London with his supermodel girlfriend. He completed his look with a forest green windbreaker and indigo jeans.

The British singer, on the other hand, has worn his in a way that’s in keeping with his signature off-duty uniform by pairing them with track shorts and an anything-but-basic T-shirt. You just know that Austin Butler and Paul Mescal are on the phone with their stylists to track this pair down for themselves.

Of course, in an era where luxury handbags have been co-opted by stylish men, it should come as no surprise to see that they’ve turned their attention to trainers as the latest streetwear item to hold cultural cachet. As everyone claimed, 2026 is the new 2016, and this feels completely fitting for the streetwear mania that swept that year.

Still, both Harry and Jacob do a lot of unexpected publicity for sharing a wardrobe with your significant other—hello: couple dressing—so don’t think that this style is exclusively for the guys, either.

Give us a peek into your world. What does a typical day in your life look like right now?

I wake up with the sun. We keep our curtains open, and I think it's best for the body and mind. The morning always starts with checking my WhatsApp and emails from Europe and NYC for anything urgent. Then goes to a straight hour of kid cuddles, food, and family time. Usually, a few more emails get sent, and from there, [it's] school and a day's work—unless it's the weekend and we go into pool mode and play!

You've built a career around having a very distinct eye. Looking back, where do you think that taste came from? Were you always someone who cared deeply about clothes and how things were put together?

My taste, for certain, comes from my upbringing in Washington, DC. I had this duality of an incredibly proper influence and my skater friends on the edge that made both worlds become one for me. My taste is always classic and chic but cool.

You work with women who each have such distinct personal styles. When you begin working with a client, how do you figure out what their fashion language is rather than simply imposing your own?

That comes from us talking, having creative conversations about the art of clothing before we start, and then getting to know each other and what makes us swoon. I always build off of them as my inspiration.

We're living in an era where a celebrity outfit can be photographed, posted, dissected, and turned into a trend within hours. How much—if at all—do you think about the internet when you're putting together a look?

I don't.

You work with major fashion houses, but you're also known for introducing smaller or unexpected brands into your clients' wardrobes. What makes you stop and pay attention to a new designer?

It's never about who makes it for me, but what it looks and reads like. I always tell clients to take the name out of the look and just focus on how they feel.

Was there a specific job, client, or moment early in your career when you first thought, "Okay, I might actually be good at this"?

I've always known what I'm capable of.

You've expanded beyond styling with Méga, your jewelry line. What made jewelry feel like the natural next step for you creatively?

I've always looked at jewelry as something really sentimental and long-lasting. Jewelry is so meaningful to me and such a way to express your individuality and taste. It's something I'm passionate about always and forever.

You've been open about your love of interior design and styling in the past, saying it's akin to your work with your clients. What is it about interiors that scratches the same creative itch for you as fashion?

Fashion and interiors have always influenced each other for me. Interior design is the exact same art of balancing textures and proportions to create an aesthetic. Both are really an expression of your personal style.

You've described both fashion and interiors as being about finding the right balance of tones, textures, and proportions. Where do you notice those worlds overlapping the most?

I see the most overlap in tone and textures. I think the same colors that I'm drawn to in fashion usually show up in my spaces too. A neutral palette really calms me, and that's so important in my lifestyle.

To you, what makes an exciting and creative home brand, and what ticks those boxes for you when it comes to Lulu and Georgia?

I have loved Lulu and Georgia for years. When I got my office that I work in today, I styled the whole space with Lulu and Georgia pieces, using a big dining table as my work desk, chairs, side tables, and all. Now, I'm so excited about refreshing my own home with pieces from their fall collection. I love how the brand is really a design platform that has such a range of elevated designs and really allows you to make a space your own.

What's the interior equivalent of the perfect white T-shirt or pair of jeans—the piece you think every room needs?

A Diptyque candle and fabulous wood accents. I think every room needs the warmth and texture of wood, new or vintage. Most recently, I've styled the Winston Side Table from Lulu and Georgia's fall collection in my space, and I've been loving the natural striped pattern.

If you had to build an entire room around one Lulu and Georgia piece from the brand's fall collection that you love right now, what would it be?

I love the Hatton scalloped bedding. I think it adds such a pretty, subtle detail to the room without feeling overdone, which is something I often look for in my clothing too. I love when one small touch can change the whole feeling of a space or an outfit.

When you're putting together a room, what's your version of the styling high-low mix? What do you think is worth investing in, and where can you have a little more fun?

Just like with my clothing, I like mixing investment pieces with things that feel of-the-moment. I think you can always mix high-low in the home as long as the fabric and design are elevated and fit the story of the space.

What's the biggest decorating mistake you've made in your own home?

Just being nervous to take a risk. When in doubt, I keep it minimal, and if I'm being more daring, there would be more wallpaper, more metals, just more.

You have access to an extraordinary amount of clothing through your work. Has that made you more selective about what actually earns a place in your closet? What's one item you think every woman should own, regardless of trends?

Yes, I have a very particular eye for what I like for myself and all the versions of it, but my "can't live without piece" in a closet is a great blazer.

Is there a piece in your closet you've owned forever and will probably never get rid of?

My Fendi Baguettes from my mom.

Whose closet—past or present—would you want to raid?

Kate Moss's wardrobe in the '90s.

If you had to rebuild your closet from scratch and could only buy either vintage or new, which would you choose?

Probably new. I'm most inspired by vintage pieces but normally wear new.

You've helped create plenty of trends over the years. Is there one you secretly wish you could bring back?

Kitten heels forever.

What's one unexpected piece or trend you think is about to be everywhere this fall?

Big sunglasses.

You spend your career defining and anticipating taste. How do you know when you genuinely love something versus when you've simply seen it enough times that it starts to feel right?

I know the minute I see something if I love it or not.

You're constantly traveling, running to fittings, and working long days. What are the rituals you refuse to skip, no matter how busy you are?

Coffee is my biggest nonnegotiable.

Is there a beauty product you first discovered through one of your clients that has since become a staple in your own routine?

Cyklar bodywashes and oils, M.Ph Le Skin, and Rhode bronzer.

What's your everyday makeup uniform when you have five minutes to get ready

Moisturizer, foundation, bronzer, blush, lip liner.

What's one wellness habit that actually makes a noticeable difference in how you feel?

As simple as it sounds, drinking water.

You're constantly absorbing visual references for work. What's inspiring you outside of fashion right now?

Seaside life: the ever-changing waves, the slow rhythm of life, the beauty in the undone.

A person's algorithm says a lot about them. What's the strangest corner of the internet you've found yourself in lately?

Outside of fashion, mine is all AI, aliens, and cooking.

What's one interior trend you think we're going to look back on and immediately know it was the 2020s?

Unintentional clutter that doesn't feel curated or thoughtful. I'm all for more in the home, but only when it feels purposeful and styled.

It should come as no surprise that Sienna Miller is the first to style the jacket trend we'll all be wearing in a few months' time. Typically ahead of the rest of us, the actor attended a red-carpet event in London this week wearing a classic outerwear staple that's set for a major revival come the coldest months of the year.

Layered over her knee-length LBD, Sienna's camel coat added a polished finish to her look, all the while confirming that this enduring staple won't be going anywhere anytime soon. While the actor has long been lauded for her bohemian styling tendencies, I've studied Sienna's style for long enough to know that she also appreciates the importance of a great wardrobe staple—and, IMO, few come close to the easy elegance of a sleek camel coat.

Sienna might have a head start on the trend, but I'm certain it won't be long before the rest of us follow suit. She took a polished approach to styling hers, pairing the sophisticated coat with a classic black dress and pink suede heeled mules, but one of the best things about a camel coat is its versatility. Throw it over a white T-shirt and jeans for an elevated everyday look, or layer it over a slinky satin dress when you want something a little more polished.

You might have a friend who spends their weekends hopping from sample sale to sample sale (preview days, not general access). They may spend their Saturday mornings poring through their inboxes, reading the latest digests from industry bibles like Puck News and Air Mail. Their Vinted searches could be bottled and sold for their ability to unearth archival treasure. Their Mastermind subject would be shoe designers of '90s fashion houses. They subscribe to a clutch of thinkers who approach style like a science on Substack, such as Rian Phin's Cultural Production or Amy Francombe's Amy_Coded. They have an avatar on Doji, an app that lets you try looks on your own likeness. In short, they haven’t just got style, they’ve got a sky-high fashion IQ.

In a fashion landscape underpinned by social media, where nothing stays under the radar, it’s become a new kind of capital. A blue tick of authentication that conveys more than IYKYK (in 2026, everyone knows). These days, it's about whether you have a feature on Perfectly Imperfect, co-hosted a La Watchparty with Lyas and had the privilege of sitting on Bella Freud's couch for a dedicated episode of her Fashion Neurosis podcast.

And whilst it helps to have designers on WhatsApp or a discount at Dover Street Market, one’s IQ—fashion or otherwise—can be improved, enabling you to better serve your wardrobe. (Also, you don’t have to work in fashion to score highly; check out Erchen Chang, co-founder and creative director of Bao; Teya Kepila, a ceramicist; Mya Hansel, a law student and Kat Chan, a nutritional therapist.)

Endrit Nurcaj does work in fashion as the style editor of Encore!, but doesn’t live in a fashion capital (the lifestyle magazine is based in Switzerland). His fashion philosophy is the opposite of what you might expect from someone with a high fashion IQ. For starters, he doesn’t like gatekeeping, and names the brands he’s loving at the moment as RECTO, Nothing Written (both of which are Korean) and Welter Shelter.

"I like sharing things I discover. If anything, I’m sometimes worried about the opposite phenomenon: ending up in a very small circle where everyone follows the same people, wears the same brands and starts looking at fashion through the same lens," he tells me. His biggest style influence also might surprise you. "Ralph Lauren is probably the obvious answer (and a cliché one)," he says. "Through all his different labels and worlds, he somehow always remains himself. Purple Label is Ralph Lauren, Polo Ralph Lauren is Ralph Lauren, RRL is Ralph Lauren. They are completely different facets of the same identity. I love that he never seems trapped in one particular fashion prism," says Nurcaj, who always finds a way to make a shirt by Polo Ralph Lauren, say, look more than the sum of its parts, pairing a sun-bleached denim style with distressed jeans on a recent holiday in Las Vegas.

Having the self-awareness to like what you like and let that—not friends, "tastemakers", trends or algorithms—determine how you dress is part of the process. Olivia Singer, the editorial director of Prototype, springs to mind; someone who never falls into cliché territory despite only wearing black. As does Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, the fashion director and stylist with a self-described "maximalist sensibility and peacocking tendencies".

"I’m much more interested in someone who has developed their own visual language over time," says Nurcaj, who also prefers shopping in person. "I like the whole experience of it: talking to a salesperson, looking at the clothes properly, touching the fabrics and, most importantly, trying things on. I need that physical connection with a garment. I’m not particularly interested in being "in season" either. I’ll happily buy something in the sales, in an outlet, secondhand or somewhere completely unexpected. For me, the place matters less than the feeling of finding the right piece."

As well as analogue shopping, you can expand the horizons of your taste by delving into the "contemporary" bracket of brands. I’ve recently picked up two on the more pared-back side as they’ve both just launched at Net-a-Porter: Ruohan, the eponymous womenswear label by Wang Ruohan, and FANE, a handbag brand from Paris.

You can also consume forms of media that prioritise original thought as much as visuals. Substack differs from Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok in one vital way. "The platform isn’t built to keep you in an endless doom scroll; it's built to connect you with creatives you'll actually love, and hopefully leave you feeling inspired," says Farrah Storr, Substack’s head of international. The site has just announced a translation feature that means it’s never been easier to not only find content outside your own echo chamber, but consume it, too. Ultimately, the appeal of the newsletter form is simple: it’s "a real person telling you what style means to them," says Storr.

Substack’s deputy editor, Danya Issawi, who was previously fashion news writer at The Cut, was already centring her own style before she took a side-step outside of the fashion industry. "Having spent years working in and around fashion, I honed in on what my personal style is and feels like whilst blocking out noise from the industry at large," she tells Who What Wear UK.

Her favourite newsletters—by writers who undoubtedly have very high fashion IQs—offer no set way to be "on trend" or "It". Instead, they’re much more personal. "There is no singular way anyone goes about it. Every publisher brings their own unique perspective and follows their curiosity, which is what I’ve always been hungry for as a reader. I always enjoy Gabriella Karefa-Johnson’s voicey dispatches from fashion weeks and her commentary on the industry writ large. Viv Chen’s posts always inspire me when I’m vintage shopping or getting dressed. Liana Satenstein is an absolutely delightful read. [She's] able to weave trend reporting in with her hilarious, obsessive tone. Biz Sherbert does exactly what I loved most when I was writing about fashion and takes an earnestly curious, anthropological lens to what people are wearing across the country," says Issawi.

A day in the life of one of young Hollywood’s most recognisable stars must be all chauffeurs and jumping from party to party, right? Not so for Maisie Williams, whose schedule for the day ahead involves doing her accounts and cleaning up after a dog with an upset tummy. Oh, the glamour!

Still, that’s exactly how Williams needs things to be. "I love it here so much, and I think that the exciting parts of my life can only be exciting if I have lived a kind of more normal life for the rest of the time," says Williams, gesturing around the office ("A real mess!") of her home in the countryside south of London. Too much "suitcase to suitcase, hotel room to fancy restaurant, to aeroplane, to new city, to PR trip to Ibiza or whatever, can just suck the fun out of it," she tells me.

Williams is not just tolerant of the ordinary, but grateful for the "cyclical mundanity" of walking the dog, taking the bins out, doing laundry. "I'm so lucky that I get to have a portion of my life that is not like that. But I think it's only enjoyable because I also feel the throes of boredom now and then. I think that's when you really percolate on life," she says. Williams, a lively and open chit-chatterer, has always craved normality. "But what even is normal, right?"

Certainly, her teenage years were very much not normal. She was 12 and a confessed goofy kid with a propensity to daydream when HBO’s cultural juggernaut Game of Thrones started, in which she played kickass fan favourite Arya Stark for all eight seasons. A global phenomenon, GOT catapulted Williams (along with the rest of the cast, and notably her on-screen siblings Sophie Turner, Kit Harington and Richard Madden) to instant, big-league fame.

Williams returned to school after filming the first three seasons. I tell her that must have been weird. It was certainly a gear shift, she says. "On one hand, you're working with adults, and you're being paid for a job, but on the other, you're part of a school classroom where a teacher is trying to navigate the group as a whole. It's just very hard for a small child to jump between the two." Sweetly, she says the first time she felt famous was when Chloé sent her a pair of sunglasses, a cute anecdote that reminds you quite how young she was.

Crazy as the GOT experience must have been, Williams is one of the lucky ones to emerge from the child-star grinder intact. Her non-famous friends keep her grounded but are also "supportive of the chaos of celebrity". Fame can be scary, she admits—"Being perceived is terrifying!"—and she treats social media (she has over 10 million followers on Instagram and TikTok) with caution, comparing it to a monster in the garden ("I'll feed you but that’s it, you can't come in the house"). She has navigated fame and fandom "clunkily", she says. "There are times when it comes freely, and there are times when you don't quite nail it. But I think it’s just intuition."

Does she feel like she has made mistakes in the past? "So many! But the thing is, because I don't give them the power to upset me, they don't even feel like mistakes anymore," she says. Like? "Things I wish I hadn't said, there are things I wish I hadn't worn. Friends I wish I kept in touch with or had not kept in touch with. Times I should have made a decision sooner, or times that I made a decision too quickly. [But] so many people are going to judge you for your actions, so maybe be nice to yourself," she says. "People are going to talk no matter what, so you might as well not hate on your own life."

The first 10 years of Williams's career were non-stop (the enforced COVID hiatus offered her a moment to take stock). Choices post-GOT have been varied, from a Marvel superhero flick (The New Mutants) to a teen rom com (Then Came You) and her turn as 1970s punk-scene icon and Vivienne Westwood muse Jordan in the Sex Pistols bio-series Pistol. This year, there’s been the heart-tugging Irish drama 500 Miles alongside Bill Nighy, and, although she can’t say much about it, a gothic horror she’s producing as well as starring in.

The more chaotic part of her life is about to crank up a gear again with the release of Practical Magic 2. Picking up several years after the original was set, the sequel sees Sally’s (Sandra Bullock) children, Antonia (Williams) and Kylie (Joey King), now in their twenties, "with no recollection that magic ever existed". Pragmatic Antonia is a neurosurgeon in training, whose "journey is about accepting magic and medicine as part of her life," Williams tells me. The key players of the original cast return, including Bullock and Nicole Kidman ("the last of the real movie stars") as the witchy Owens sisters, as does the love curse and that iconic turret-and-white-picket Gothic villa.

Williams is bursting with affection and admiration for her co-stars. King is "a deeply funny, silly person. [Working with her] just made the whole thing a lot more freeing." Arm-in-arm pap shots and the pair’s social media pages show a duo who clearly have a blast together. Last summer they had a night of karaoke in wigs, followed by a morning-after hangover dance (duly posted to TikTok by King).

Shortly after Williams signed on to the project, she got a text from Bullock saying, "Hey, it's your mother here," welcoming her and telling her she was excited to dive into the world of Practical Magic with her. There is a line in the film where one character says there is no magic stronger than sisterhood. "I do believe that, and think it is such a beautiful message," says Williams. "I wouldn't have made it through this industry without sisterhood and without friendships with other female co-stars or directors, and also, my friends are not in the industry."

Bullock, Kidman, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest really took King and Williams under their wing. "It was so beautiful, it was like a dream," Williams says. She tells me that her favourite memories of being on set are "when we were just having girly gossip chats about love and friendships and sex and the world. I cherish that the most. It was just girls hanging out, chatting," she says. There was even a sleepover at "Sandy's", complete with midnight margaritas.

Fashion—which Williams has a huge respect for and a genuine interest in—is not only a huge source of power for an actor but also a powerful tool she’s utilised to help her "graduate from child actor to adult actor". She is equally at home in Dior couture (Williams played Christian Dior’s younger sister Catherine in the Apple TV+ show The New Look), Thom Browne, Margiela and Miu Miu as she is wearing independent labels like Talia Byer.

She is clearly someone who "gets" fashion and doesn’t dress like a woman trying to fast-forward her age, but rather like a typical 20-something—albeit one with access to custom pieces. When we talk, she is wearing a thrifted French Connection baby tee with "Cool as FCUK" emblazoned on the front.

Williams has clearly been having fun with the fashion part of the Practical Magic 2 press tour, and has eschewed working with a tried-and-tested Hollywood stylist for her friend, Dino Bonačić. It’s clearly paying off; vintage Gucci plum tailoring, pleasingly witchy Lili Curia boots, floral organza Cecilie Bahnsen, deconstructed Maison Margiela and a smattering of eBay-sourced accessories have all been on the agenda.

As for method dressing? "A little bit!", says Williams, who adds that for her, it’s less about doing playbook gothic and more about "taking inspiration from like the late '90s [and from] Sandra and Nicole at the time; the things that they were dressing in." True to this sentiment, at the London premiere a couple of weeks after we spoke, Williams wore a custom Ellie Misner look inspired by Bullock's dress to promote Forces of Nature in 1999.

Fashion aside, it's an apt time for Practical Magic to return, not least because of 2026's intensified interest in all things woo-woo. Williams herself has been known to dabble in it; she has used an Etsy witch, consults Tarot cards, attends esoteric readings and breaks off mid-sentence when the time is 11:11 to excitedly exclaim, "Witchy! Let’s make a wish!" (This is probably the only instance when a celebrity suddenly observing the time mid-interview isn't a heavy-handed hint to wrap up). This summer, she was papped leaving the Gypsi Tea Room psychic in West Hollywood.

"I think there's a real rise of divine feminine power," Williams observes. "And yeah, I'm here for it. When the word 'witch' is fired out as an insult, it’s usually because very powerful women and groups of powerful women … are a threat to the patriarchy." Now "feels like a time to, you know, get more in touch with your intuition and to explore the synchronicities and the power that women have in groups; the power of gossip and information, of knowledge and knowing."

Criticism of the esoteric can be "a bit misogynistic," she adds. "I think unlocking answers can happen in all kinds of ways. And that's all we're searching for."

Williams turns 30 next year, which she says she's excited about. "But I'm more excited to turn 40. I'm more excited to have 50. I just feel like life is gonna make more sense." For a long, long time, she has "yearned for people to see me as a grown-up," she says, admitting, "I don’t know if that’s going to come until I really do have grey hair." (Thanks to childhood fame plus naturally youthful looks, she was ID’d to see a 15-certificate film recently, she tells me, laughing).

She talks with the wisdom of someone who’s had to grow up fast, but she says, "I don't have it all figured out. I'm also not naive enough to think that that same doesn't apply to everyone. No one's really got it figured out! And even when you do have it figured out, life will throw something at you that is completely unprecedented. I think that being okay with uncertainty is very liberating."

Of course, the drama and prestige of the Venice Film Festival will always command my attention. But I have to admit that when these major calendar moments roll around, and a hive of celebrities descends on one small, localised area for a week or two of high-octane glamour, I'm often far more interested in the off-duty outfits spotted in between events. After all, they're one of the best indications of the day-to-day trends set to ripple out next.

As well as front-row seats to the hottest tickets in cinema, the celebrities descending on Venice right now are some of the fashion industry's most influential dressers. Often spotted front row at Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks, this subset of celebrities is amongst the first to get their hands on the season's latest offerings and, as such, have a particularly good eye for trends.

With the Venice Film Festival well underway, I've been street-style spotting to my heart's content, taking note of the wearable staples off-duty celebrities are backing right now. And, after a week of sightings, I've spotted one new-season jeans trend that I'm now convinced many of us will be wearing next. Spotted not once, not twice, but thrice, it seems everyone in Venice is styling low-rise bootcut jeans right now.

Putting me onto the growing denim trend, I spotted actor Emma Corrin strolling along the cobblestoned pathways of Venice in the trending silhouette, choosing a perfect mid-wash shade of blue. Styled with a simple white tank top and white gum-sole trainers, Emma's jeans puddled around their shoes, giving the look a relaxed, unfussy finish.

Had I not already been convinced that the silhouette was on the rise, I then spotted Nicola Peltz Beckham wearing the very same trend as she touched down in Venice. Also on board with the white-top styling formula, Nicola paired her ever-so-slightly darker blue jeans with a white boat-neck, three-quarter-sleeve T-shirt and black sunglasses. Finished with black heels and a Chanel shoulder bag, her take was a little more polished, without losing the understated energy that makes this denim trend so appealing.

And, within the very same scroll, Suki Waterhouse confirmed my suspicions: low-rise bootcut jeans are about to become one of the silhouettes of the season. Edging high-rise jeans out of their safe spot as the default denim choice, the low-rise resurgence brings a playful, nostalgic energy to the look, while the subtly flared leg adds even more personality.

As Emma, Nicola and Suki have demonstrated, low-rise bootcut jeans make a particularly natural pairing with any type of white top, but I can also see them looking just as chic with a silky black blouse or styled with one of the season's favourite raglan tees.

I know that leggings don't immediately conjure images of chicness, but after years of documenting women with great taste, I've come to realise there are, in fact, plenty of ways to make leggings look polished. One of my favourites? Choosing a fresh, new-season colour instead of defaulting to black.

Putting a particularly chic leggings colour trend on my radar, I just came across a mirror selfie of Cindy Crawford styling the ubiquitous trousers in the prettiest shade of cornflower blue. Unlike black leggings, which can feel decidedly sporty—particularly when rendered in a glossy, Lycra finish—this softer shade brings a gentleness to the look, making the skin-clinging fabric feel altogether less harsh.

Worn with a co-ordinating tank top and a tonal jumper slung over her shoulders, Cindy's leggings outfit looked polished and considered—two words I wouldn't always associate with leggings. Whilst Cindy wore hers barefoot, I can imagine the look with a pair of crisp white trainers, adding brightness without creating too stark a contrast.

So, if your MO is to make leggings look chic, take your cues from Cindy and keep scrolling to discover the cornflower-blue pairs I'm recommending now.

And just like that, Kendall Jenner has said arrivederci to her time in Italy. For the uninitiated, the supermodel spent the better part of this week gallivanting around Venice, leaving a trail of enviable fashion moments in her wake.

Be it attending the premiere of Martin McDonagh’s new film Wild Horse Nine whilst wearing vintage Giorgio Armani from 1995 or simply cruising around the Grand Canal by speedboat, 30-year-old did it all with a covetable wardrobe that simply demands closer inspection.

Despite only descending on the floating city for a few days, she managed to cram quite a few sophisticated ensembles into her itinerary. There was, of course, the cream travel outfit and sumptuous Chanel suede bag that she wore when arriving at Venice Marco Polo Airport.

Then came a sheer Vivienne Westwood black dress that slightly harkened back to the angelic Givenchy-by-Alexander-McQueen gown that she wore to a Met Gala after-party a few years ago. To round it all up, she ended her cinematic holiday with another notable travel look, including an Olsen Twin-approved devore shawl and witchy sculptural sunglasses that were made in collaboration with art collector Peggy Guggenheim back in 1994.

The latter was just one of many art references, with Jenner also donning a pair of earrings made by sculptor Alexander Calder in 1955. And that’s not even including her nod to Jane Birkin, too, with a wicker basket bag similar to the ones that have been causing a stir over in Nantucket, proving to be an indispensable part of her capsule wardrobe for this trip. Still, Jenner’s style has always possessed a replicable sensibility, with the pieces she’s worn set to become some of the key trends of the season.

We can’t help but think that’s exactly the essence Jenner was trying to evoke when she stepped out in this ensemble. Pairing a Vivienne Westwood dress with Manolo Blahnik shoes, the sheer dress brought an ethereal quality to her outfit, seeming as lightweight and fluid as the light that dances on the top of the city’s watery lagoons. The pièce de résistance, however, was her wicker basket bag. Whether it’s a nod to the French girl's signature accessory or her bid to make the summer staple a year-round piece, this sculptural top-handle certainly brought a vintage quality to her look.

2. Floral Dresses

Style Notes: There’s no need to alert Miranda Priestly, but florals are seemingly becoming an autumnal staple. From Saint Laurent’s brocade skirts to Chanel’s iridescent rosette dresses, it appears that fashion is fully in bloom this season. Given her high fashion pedigree, it should come as no surprise that Jenner received this message too, as she took to the streets around San Marco in a floral maxi dress. (An Old Céline find from the spring/summer 2017 collection, no less.) The print itself is reminiscent of the watercolour botanicals painted by Claude Monet in his oeuvre. We said it once, and we’ll say it again: don’t underestimate her artistic knowledge.

Style Notes: As so aptly put by Who What Wear UK editor-in-residence Chani Ra, the party skirt is currently having a comeback. A staple that’s beloved by the likes of Miuccia Prada and Alexa Chung, embellished skirts bring a chintzy touch that can elevate any basic they’re paired with, as Kendall Jenner has proven here by styling her sequined number with a simple white tank top. Just call it sartorial arithmetic.

4. Brocade Blouses

Style Notes: Jenner is a known disciple of the school of Mary Kate and Ashley-inspired dressing. As one of The Row’s major celebrity proponents, let alone a fixture at their biannual Paris Fashion Week runway shows, it should come as no surprise that she also looks to their personal approaches to style for inspiration. (Stars, they’re just like us!) A cardinal piece of their autumn wardrobe is an oversized shawl, which is something she picked up on when departing for the airport. Opting for a shawl made of brocade devore material, she punctuated her signature blue jeans and ballet flats with an ornate touch. With the rose sticking out of her black bag and witchy sunglasses, however, the look does lean more esoteric than quiet luxury. Given she is a Scorpio, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that she packed a deck of tarot cards for the plane ride back to Beverly Hills.

I'm not going to lie—I had assumed that, collectively, we'd all but agreed that frayed—and, whilst I'm at it, ripped and bleached—jeans were in the graveyard of 2010s trends, safely saved from making a return. But what I hadn't taken into consideration is that, if anyone has the power to revive a forgotten trend, it's Alexa Chung. Having just styled a chic pair of frayed jeans not once but twice, I'm going to have to put frayed denim up there as one of the trends set to ripple out all over again.

Opting for an optic-white pair complete with a textured, frayed hem that grazed her ankle, Alexa has been wearing these retro jeans as though they were a simple pair of blue straight-legs. Spotted first in a photodump, Alexa styled the once-forgotten denim trend with a roomy cotton shirt, balancing the long-line jeans with an elegant pair of ballet flats. With a suitcase in tow, she even confirmed that this jeans trend is worthy of an in-flight outfit.

Spotted in the burgeoning denim trend for a second time, Alexa switched things up with a boxy graphic tee. Whilst they were once a mainstay in the wardrobe of every 2010s fashion person, these undone, ever-so-slightly scruffy jeans perfectly complement the laid-back energy of an era stylistically defined by its indie-sleaze proclivities.

If you're looking to channel an elegant, unfussy, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy kind of energy this autumn, then I have a few new-season recommendations for you. First up—and perhaps most importantly—take a break from the leather bomber jackets that dominated every fashion person's rotation last autumn and instead invest in a sleek, single-breasted blazer. Case in point? This chic style I spotted on Jennifer Lawrence this week.

Attending an event in Paris, JLaw stepped out in one of the chicest takes on tailoring I've seen this season. Styling a black, single-breasted blazer with a generous row of buttons tracing up towards her collarbone, Jennifer's Dior Bar Jacket (£4300) brought a polished, unfussy energy to her look. She doubled down on the pared-back approach by pairing it with an equally sleek pair of black tailored trousers.

Unlike the double-breasted blazers that have long been synonymous with traditional tailoring, the narrower profile of a single-breasted style brings a certain sleekness that I don't think its wider counterpart can quite match. After years of oversized proportions and shoulder-pad-heavy styles dominating our wardrobes, this emerging take on tailoring feels like a welcome change of pace.

Whilst JLaw brought the trend to my attention this week, I couldn't help but think of the timeless, pared-back nature of '90s style icons such as Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Her wardrobe was built around simple, impeccably cut pieces, and this feels like the perfect way to channel that same sensibility now.

Styled with a semi-sheer blouse, Lily's look was largely covered up, but the blouse's form-skimming shape and transparent finish brought an understated sense of sexiness that made her maxi-skirt outfit feel even more evening-ready.

Casting a '90s-inspired silhouette without feeling at all dated, long-line pencil skirts retain the simplicity and fuss-free energy that made their shorter counterparts so appealing in the first place. And, much like the knee-length styles we've been wearing all summer, they work effortlessly with the wardrobe basics already in your rotation. Were I to build my autumn wardrobe from scratch, there’s no way I’d be reaching for the season’s favourite cropped jeans or last year’s barrel-leg pairs. Instead, I’d be taking my wardrobe cues from one of the industry’s chicest and investing in a timeless pair of straight-leg jeans.

Proving that this enduring denim favourite isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, I spotted Cindy Crawford taking a mid-wash blue pair out for a spin this week. Wearing hers with a pale blue shirt, Cindy anchored the look with cognac-brown accessories, creating a chic, coordinated ensemble I’d gladly emulate throughout the autumn months.

Airport dressing is something of a lost art. Take a stroll through Terminal 3, and you'll be met by a sea of leggings, track pants and trainers peppering every departure gate. Of course, there's nothing wrong with dressing for comfort—in fact, when you're facing a long stint in the air, it should be a key priority. But comfort doesn't have to come at the expense of elegance, and there are plenty of ways to make an airport outfit feel polished without sacrificing practicality.

Making my case, I spotted Emma Corrin touching down in the anti-trainer flat shoe I'm trying to put everyone on to right now. Travelling in Celine's Jazz Shoes (£690), the shoes have the same classic lace-up detailing and structured finish that make trainers such a comfortable option, but swap the thick rubber sole for a slimmer, more flexible base and hardy canvas or mesh for sleek leather, and these offer all the ease you'd want for navigating an airport, with far more polish.

No less comfortable but significantly chicer, these simple black shoes deserve a place in the arsenal of any jet-setting fashion person. Styling a near-full Celine look, Emma paired hers with crisp white trousers, a White Cotton Shirt (£750) and Celine's Snap Belt (£690), completing her outfit with Cartier's new Clash de Cartier bag (£3900) slung over her shoulder.

At this point, I think I have Zoë Kravitz’s style down to a T. In the summer months, the actor favours micro-mini shorts, boxy tees, tanks and little dresses, while come autumn, I’d expect to see her swap these out for fur-trimmed jackets, trench coats and plenty of suede. When it comes to shoes, she’s long been a proponent of the ballet flat, while winter typically calls for a chunkier boot. So, feeling fairly confident in my predictions, I was surprised to see Zoë eschew everything I thought I knew about her styling rules this week, stepping out for a walk in a shoe I never expected to see her in. Rather than her go-to pretty ballet flats, Zoë opted for a pair of rubberised, open-toe slide sandals instead.

Rendered in an inky black, these slip-on shoes aren’t far removed from the well-worn pairs that line many a garden door, ready to be stepped into for taking the bins out or pottering around outside. Ultra-casual and hard-wearing, they’re hardly the silhouette I’d expect to see on one of fashion’s most stylish dressers.

And yet, by styling this controversial flat, Zoë joins a growing line-up of chic celebrities reclaiming the ubiquitous plastic slip-on. With the likes of long-time style icon Jennifer Lawrence already giving the practical shoe her seal of approval, perhaps these purpose-made sandals are finally ready for their fashion moment.

I'm sure Kendall Jenner isn't quite as prone to scuffing, spilling or generally mishandling her clothes as I am, so perhaps that's why she had the confidence to jet-set in the sleek neutral shade I would never dare travel in. Because, as elegant as cream may be, it is also spectacularly prone to showing up every single mark, spill and scuff—and when you're travelling, there are plenty of opportunities for all three.

Choosing the elegant, albeit impractical, hue for an almost head-to-toe look, Kendall skipped the far more sensible shades of black or navy and instead styled a sleeveless cream top with a tonal pair of trousers. She grounded the look with accessories in slightly richer neutrals, carrying a warm beige suede bag and stepping into a pair of chocolate-brown ballet flats. In fact, her accessories were far more practical than her pristine two-piece.

Between lugging luggage overhead, perching on airport seats that have cushioned thousands of travellers before you and attempting to eat in transit without a proper table in sight, I simply can't imagine taking the risk of wearing such a fresh, unforgiving shade. However, I have to admit that, if you can somehow manage to keep it spotless, cream might just be one of the chicest colours you can opt for. It makes an outfit feel brighter and fresher, without requiring you to introduce any particularly bold or garish hues.

In case you missed it, just because sandal season is drawing to a close doesn't mean we're segueing straight into trainer season. Instead, I'm looking to the far chicer closed-toe shoes I keep spotting the best-dressed over-50s.

Leading the charge, I spotted Tracee Ellis Ross styling not one, but two pairs of elegant high-vamp flats. A more covered-up take on the classic ballet flat silhouette, high-vamp shoes feature a leather upper that extends further up the foot, offering a little more coverage than their lower-cut counterparts. As the weather cools and open-toe shoes become less practical, this higher-coverage silhouette offers protection for early autumn, without sacrificing the sleek, comfortable feel that makes flats such a good everyday choice.

Tracee opted for both black and white pairs, styling them with relaxed straight-leg jeans, cuffed just-so at the ankle. Paired with a simple white T-shirt and tote bag, the flats lent her casual look a more polished energy—one that, dare I say, a pair of trainers simply couldn't have matched.

In another chic styling move, Tracee paired her black flats with a pair of cropped trousers. Picking up on another silhouette that's set to be everywhere this season, the cropped trousers brought lightness to the outfit whilst complementing the polished feel of the flats.

With autumn's chillier days and drizzly tendencies taking the helm, equipping your wardrobe with the perfect in-between layer is suddenly a rather pressing matter. Rather than picking up where spring left off and bundling up in yet another windbreaker, however, Victoria Beckham is taking a chicer approach to transitional dressing this season, championing a new jacket trend in the process.

Subbing the windbreaker out for what I'm about to dub autumn 2026's most important jacket trend, I spotted Victoria in the chicest drawstring jacket.

Opting for a slightly oversized style in a dark khaki wash, Victoria also tapped into the earthy colour palette that makes its annual return every autumn, making her choice especially apt for the season ahead. But whilst last season's windbreakers and bomber jackets centred on a roomy, slouchy silhouette, this season's drawstring jackets retain that relaxed energy while introducing a little more shape. The clue is in the name: drawstring detailing cinches the waist, creating a more sculpted silhouette.

Less formal than a blazer but with some of the same structure you'd expect from a peplum style, the drawstring jacket occupies that sweet spot between casual and polished—making it a particularly useful addition to your autumn wardrobe.

Whilst Victoria's khaki iteration feels decidedly casual, I've found an array of chic cream and deep-black styles that offer a more elevated take on the trend, too.

When it comes to the Venice Film Festival, those with taste know the real fashion flexes begin the moment the stars set foot on the tarmac at Venice Marco Polo Airport. Long before the stars even descend on the Lido, arriving ever in style by speedboat, the best-dressed attendees begin making their mark on the Italian city through stylish travel outfits that harken back to the halcyon days of the jet set in the ‘60s.

Amal Clooney followed in this tradition of bringing Old Hollywood glamour to the cinematic event by stepping out in an olive green satin blazer, matching shorts and towering black court heels. Balancing an elegant sensibility with an undone effortlessness, the look was punctuated by her unexpected shoe choice.

Of course, the waves of the Grand Canal were no match for her, who took to the opulent setting looking like a complete movie star.
