Bal d'Afrique is one of Byredo's most iconic and most-loved scents, so I'm not surprised to see it in the body mist collection. This floral-woody scent is a total crowdpleaser. It's both bright with a sparkly lemon opening and smooth, musky dry-down that melds with your skin, making it a great daytime fragrance to wear just about anywhere. It's the crisp white shirt of perfumes, it suits everyone and any occasion.

Mojave Ghost is my all-time favourite of Byredo's perfumes, so I'm happy to report that the body mist is just as heavenly. If you like woody and musky scents, then I implore you to try it. To me, it smells like expensive shampoo you'd catch a waft from in a luxury salon, but it's actually inspired by the Mojave Desert in sun-drenched California. It's an elegant perfume that leaves a hazy, luminous trail of creamy ambrette, smooth sandalwood and skin-like musk. Honestly? It has gotten me more compliments than I can count.

Imagine being in a cabin in the woods atop a mountain in the Alps, and throwing open your windows on the first day of spring as the scent of pine flows in atop a cool breeze. Gypsy Water is like the scent of fresh air bottled, and so it feels both grounding and luxurious to douse yourself in this woodsy, aromatic and fresh scent.

I'm not surprised that this one has sold out almost everywhere. If you want to smell as clean and fresh as soap bubbles and laundry powder (or like your dry cleaning bill is extortionately expensive), then Blanche is the one you'll want to mist all over your skin and clothes. This clean-smelling perfume smells just like freshly laundered clothes and crisp white bed linen. If you're looking for a bougie scent for your gym bag, this would be a great choice.

I'm not usually one for rose perfumes, but even I have to admit that this one is worth smelling. It's worlds away from the dated rose scents of generations ago. Instead, it's a nose with bite, thanks to the spicy pepperness and warm amber accord. But, it has an airiness to it, like velvety red rose petals blowing in the breeze that make it feel somewhat nostalgic and comforting at the same time.

This summer-coded perfume mist smells exactly like drinking coconut water straight from the mouthwatering fruit under the dappled light of overhead palms. The name comes from a Brazilian Portuguese expression that translates as "high spirits", and wearing this body mist is a guaranteed mood-booster. It's a fruity perfume, but not overly sweet, with a great fresh and juicy scent to welcome in the warmer weather.

This is one of the brand's most popular scents, and is great if you like a clean, fresh fragrance. Expect notes of rose, sandalwood and musk.

That's right, the brand also does a selection of gorgeous candles. I've got my eye on this one for winter as it has a beautifully earthy, warm scent.

Hair perfumes are another great way of trying out luxury fragrances for less, and Byredo has a wide selection.

Rouge Chaotique is the brand's first oud-gourmand fragrance as part of the Night Veils collection, and with notes of plum, praline and oud, it sounds almost good enough to eat.

Make your shower a whole lot chicer with a Byredo body wash. The packaging alone is enough to make me want to buy this, and I just know that I'll smell amazing all day, especially if I layer on the perfume afterwards. 

Animalique is one of the newest scents from the brand and features fresh, citrusy notes of lemon and bergamot combined with warm suede and amber.

My hands always get so dry in winter, so I'm hoping to get a tube of Byredo hand cream in my stocking this Christmas.

One of the fascinating things about Byredo perfumes is that you will read through the fragrance notes, think you know exactly what it will smell like, only to take a sniff and be totally (but pleasantly) surprised. Black Saffron is the kind of scent I would disregard on paper—it has notes of leather, grapefruit, raspberry, and violet—which makes me imagine it would be rich and boozy (not my cup of tea). However, the leather is subtle and smoky and the fruity notes are much fresher and crisper than you would imagine. Overall, it's smooth, clean, expensive, and not to be overlooked.

Not only is this one of Byredo's bestsellers but it's also my favourite perfume of all time. I first wore this vibrant woody fragrance on holiday in Australia, so smelling it now always transports me back to hotter, sunnier climes.

Byredo's spin on a classic floral is a real crowdpleaser. It sees notes of magnolia and violet paired with ambrette, sandalwood, and cedar, which gives it a warm, powdery base. 

Gypsy Water was the first Byredo fragrance I ever wore and I remember thinking 'this brand is going to be huge'. It stars one of my favourite ingredients, juniper, supported by a cast of woody, aromatic notes like pine, sandalwood, bergamot, and pepper. The result is both sweet and woody, so it's easy to see why Gypsy Water is such a hit.

Maison Margiela's Replica perfumes are created to capture places and moments in time, and while rich and boozy scents like By the Fireplace and Jazz Club are especially popular, Springtime in a Park is the real hidden gem. The perfect floral for people who don't think they like florals—it's light, fresh, and musky, with a smooth powdery base.

A classic winter perfume and a Maison Margiela bestseller, By the Fireplace is truly addictive scent. It features some unusual notes—including cloves and chestnut—which add to its allure.

Phlur is a relative newcomer to the fragrance game (it only launched in 2022), but has already become a favourite amongst beauty editors and fragrance aficionados alike. Mood Ring is the latest launch from the brand, so it's still fairly unknown, but in my opinion is certain to become a classic. With vibrant, fruit top notes of fruit gummies, dragonfruit, and orange flower, it certainly stands out more than the brand's bestseller, Missing Person, but it still has a similarly warm, comforting base—thanks to notes of amber.

Missing Person is almost always sold out, thanks to its TikTok virality. This barely-there skin scent is warm, musky, and familiar. Founder, Chriselle Lim, created it to evoke the closeness of a loved one, while going through a painful break-up.

Dior have years of experience creating perfumes and is home to some of the world's most iconic fragrances, but they also have an impressive collection of niche scents known as La Collection Privée. These ultra luxurious perfumes feature some of the world's most unique and precious ingredients, so they're far from conventional. I particularly love Gris Dior—it's intensely woody, but with notes of citrus and moss which keep it fresh.

Chances are, when you think of Dior perfumes, you automatically think of J'Adore Dior. Working on fragrance counters as a student, this was my first introduction to the brand—and still a firm favourite.

A floral bouquet of iris, peony, lily-of-the-valley, and rose. This cult classic also has the fruity additions of peach and apricot, plus vanilla which lends it a warm sweetness once it settles on your skin.

A heritage perfume brand with a legacy of iconic scents, Penhaligon's bestsellers are typically powerful stand-out fragrances which evoke times, places, and personalities. Personally, I'm more drawn to softer, subtle scents, which is why Juniper Sling is a favourite for me. Juniper is definitely the stand-out note in this perfume, but I also love the additions of pepper, vetiver, and cardamom. It's quite crisp at first, but becomes sweeter and more mellow as it settles onto skin.

Ever since it first launched in 2015 Halfeti has been a crowdpleaser, and the fact that it's now available as a hair mist, body oil, soap, body wash, and hand lotion, is testament to its popularity. This is definitely a perfume for those who like statement-making scents—it's spicy and aromatic with a rich oud base.

Most people don't know Maison Francis Kurkdjian beyond the brand's most famous perfume, Baccarat Rouge 540. However, if you're after something that smells equally as good (but that won't put you at risk of smelling like everybody else), I'd urge you to try out Aqua Celestia. Although it has top notes of lime, mint, and blackcurrant, it's impossible to identify any of them individually. Instead, they meld into a deliciously sweet, green scent which smells at first fresh, but then warms up on the skin thanks to its musky base.

If you're at all invested in TikTok beauty trends then you're no doubt familiar with Baccarat Rouge 540, a fragrance which to me, smells like expensive candyfloss. It's deliciously sweet but simultaneously luxurious, and is one of the most long-lasting perfumes I've ever worn. Spray it on, and you'll still be able to smell it on your skin 48 hours later. Well worth the hype.

If you're looking for a new Jo Malone scent, don't worry, you've got plenty to choose from. The issue can be that when faced with such a wide array (there are well over 100), it can be hard to know where to start. However, if you're after something unconventional, I'd highly recommend Earl Grey & Cucumber. Tea is an unusual fragrance note, which was what drew me to this perfume in the first place. Combined with fresh, watery cucumber and notes of bergamot, and jasmine, this is a beautiful, uplifting fragrance, which deserves just as much hype as Jo Malone's bestsellers.

Lime Basil & Mandarin is a fragrance so iconic that countless cheaper perfume brands have attempted to dupe it—none of which, in my opinion, come close. To me, this is the perfect spring/summer morning scent.

Vanilla and pepper are two notes that you don't often see combined, and you might find yourself wondering if they really work... The answer is yes, they do. Simultaneously sweet and spicy, this addictive scent is warm and comforting. It's impossible to draw comparisons between this and any other perfume, but if you're after a truly unique scent, look no further.

Chanel is another heritage fragrance brand with over a hundred years of experience in the perfume industry. Alongside their most classic scents, they also have a niche range, Les Exclusifs de Chanel, of which Le Lion is, in my opinion, one of the standout scents. Warm and aromatic, this perfume combines powerful notes of amber, leather, and patchouli with softer vanilla and bergamot. 

Possibly the most famous perfume in the world, ever? Chanel No5 needs no introduction but needless to say, between its iconic bottle, captivating scent, and legendary history, it's a Chanel bestseller for good reason.

Serge Lutens isn't (yet) a mainstream perfume brand, but if you're in the know with fragrances, you're probably familiar with these iconic bottles. After working for Dior and Shiseido, Lutens utilised his experience to launch his own collection in 2000–it now features an impressive lineup of over 50 fragrances. While I've always tended to avoid rose-based scents, La Fille de Berlin totally reinvents the classic floral note. The headiness of the rose is totally balanced out by fresh, green geranium and a base of honey, moss, and patchouli.

After departing Jo Malone London, the perfumer created Jo Loves, a brand which has already become a favourite for fragrance obsessives. As in her (arguably) most famous creation, Lime Basil & Mandarin, in this fragrance Malone pairs a zesty citrus (orange) with an unconventional herbal note (coriander). Add black pepper and moss into the mix and you get an intoxicatingly aromatic perfume which is guaranteed to turn heads.

Le Labo's fragrance collection includes a number of perfumes built around hero notes—my favourite of which is Labdanum 18, a musky, animalic amber created by famous perfumer Maurice Roucel. Others in the range include iris, patchouli, and oud.

Santal 33 is so popular that it's almost infamously famous and has been been name dropped by the likes of Alexa Chung, Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Bieber. That said, I totally get the hype surround this milky, spicy, sandalwood blend—it's warm, sensual, and alluring.

Le Labo's take on a skin scent sees the iconic Iso E Super molecule (think woody but skin-like) combined with pear, apple, amber, and jasmine.

This bright and zesty take on Marc Jacobs' bestseller is perfect for spring and summer. It features the same classic floral heart notes, topped off with bright, citrusy ones.

The original Dairy is a light, powdery floral with nots of violet, gardenia, and jasmine, and a warm, musky base.

Perfect is more green and woody than the Daisy fragrances. At the same time, it's quite mellow and creamy—it's easy to wear and suits just about everyone.

Perfumer Jerome Epinette is the nose behind seven iconic Byredo fragrances, including my personal favourite, Bal d’Afrique. The fragrance is inspired by Byredo founder Ben Gorham’s time spent in Africa, and the result is a warm and vibrant concoction of bergamot, marigold, and violet, combined with base notes of cedarwood and vetiver. To me, it smells like a hot summer evening in a bottle.

& Other Stories is one of my favourite brands to shop for affordable fragrance. I’ve never been disappointed by any of their scents, which is no surprise considering that Epinette is the nose behind the majority of them (16 to be precise). Like Bal d’Afrique, Sicilian Sunrise is a specific location and evokes the same feelings of being somewhere warm and sunny, thanks to its blend of citrus and aquatic notes.

Floral Street might be towards the higher end of ‘affordable’ but every single one of the brand’s fragrances are available in travel size rollerballs which clock in just under the £30 mark. Combining coconut, jasmine, black pepper, and musk, Arizona Bloom is just one of nine fragrances Epinette formulated for Floral Street.

Thanks (in part) to TikTok, Baccarat Rouge 540 is one of the most famous perfumes on the market right now. It has notes of saffron, amberwood, fir resin, and cedar, but the allure of this scent is almost possible to convey in words – you really do have to smell it to get it. Just trust me when I say that it’s worth the hype. The nose behind Baccarat Rouge 540 is Francis Kurkdjian himself, who aside from founding his eponymous brand, has also formulated fragrances for brands such as Acqua di Parma, Juliet Has A Gun, Dior, and Guerlain.

Kurkdjian created Green Tea for Elizabeth Arden back in 1999 and it’s been a bestseller ever since. An energising and uplifting fragrance with notes of lemon, mint, rhubarb, fennel, and amber, this affordable fragrance is very different to Baccarat Rouge 540, but just as intriguing.

Described as a ‘floral, woody musk’ this crowd-pleasing fragrance shares some similar notes to Baccarat Rouge 540, including saffron and amber. It’s a favourite of Who What Wear beauty editor Eleanor Vousden, who recommends it to anyone who wants a scent that’s majorly long-lasting.

Perfumer Christian Provenzano is the nose behind scents from luxury brands such as By Kilian, Jo Malone, and Penhaligon’s. In fact, he created Penhaligon’s most iconic scent, Halfeti, which fragrance connoisseurs consider to be a modern classic. Its top notes of cypress, saffron, cardamom, and grapefruit are instantly recognisable, drying down to a lingering haze of oud, leather, and musk.

Also by Provenzano, this sweet and citrusy concoction is warm, feminine, and has rich base notes that mean it also lingers impressively on skin. It’s an intoxicating aroma but also feels sophisticated.

With 25 years of fragrance industry experience and a hugely successful brand (Jo Malone) behind her, fragrancer Jo Malone CBE launched Jo Loves in 2009, a luxury fragrance collection inspired by natural ingredients. Pomelo features just six key notes (pomelo, rose, vetiver, clove, patchouli, and clove). It’s fresh and zesty at first spritz but dries down to something softer and cosier.

In 2019, Jo Malone CBE joined forces with Zara for what became one of the most iconic and successful fragrance collaborations in recent years. The initial collection of eight fragrances has grown in the three years since, but one of the original perfumes, Ebony Wood, remains a favourite. Warm, musky, and woody, this is a perfect winter fragrance. It smells just as good as a Jo Loves scent, but costs a third of the price.

Diptyque is a cult classic brand with a reputation for creating complex, interesting fragrances which truly stand out. In true Diptyque fashion, this is an unconventional rose, sweetened by fruity top notes and grounded by woody base notes of musk, honey, and cedar. The creator? Fabrice Pellegrin, who has contributed niche scents to some of the biggest names in the business, including By Kilian, Penhaligons, Yves Saint Laurent, and Paco Rabanne.

Earlier this year, Pellegrin collaborated with Zara on a collection of four affordable fragrances, each inspired by a different type of forest. I was particularly impressed by Sacred Green Forest, a mossy unisex scent which combines jasmine, ylang-ylang, and incense. It’s every bit as complex and unusual as a fragrance I would expect from a luxury brand like Diptyque.

A smoky and alluring fragrance with major sex appeal, it’s easy to see why Santal 33 is Le Labo’s bestseller - and a cult classic in its own right. Simultaneously seductive and sophisticated, it’s a musky, woody blend which really is as far from a fruity or floral fragrance as it’s possible to be. The nose behind this scent is Frank Voehl, a senior perfumer who has created for other luxury brands (including Boy Smells and Commodity) as well as creating affordable scents for brands such as Zara and Glossier. 

Also warm and musky, Glossier You has many things in common with Santal 33 (notably an impressive longevity). It’s creamy and crisp all at once, somewhat woody, somewhat floral. Although it’s available as an eau de parfum, I’m a huge fan of the solid version. The chic and weighty packaging imparts a more expensive look and feel than the affordable price tag suggests.

Fragrancer Calice Becker is the nose behind a grand total of 41 By Kilian scents, and has also created for Dior, Estee Lauder, Tom Ford, and Marc Jacobs. It’s a tricky task choosing just one By Kilian scent to spotlight, but I settled for Love, Don’t Be Shy, since it’s one of the most luxurious fragrances I’ve ever smelt. A decadent cocktail of marshmallow, amber, neroli, orange blossom, and rose. 

When sweet scents are created for high street brands they can often be a little sickly. Not so when the perfumer is accustomed to creating scents for designer brands and the brand is renowned for its commitment to quality ingredients. Consisting mainly of ‘edible’ scents, including honey, almond, and vanilla, Terre de Lumiere is rich, sweet, and heady.

Luxury brand Tom Ford isn’t known for producing sweet scents, which is probably what makes this one so captivating. In fact, the best word to describe this perfume is ‘intoxicating’, it blends sweet elements of cherry, almond and plum with sensual notes of liquor, rose, and sandalwood. 

Coming from a brand that specialises in skincare, you might not expect the Nuxe fragrances to be as impressive as they are. But smell this with your eyes closed and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d actually picked up a bottle of Tom Ford perfume. Rich notes of jasmine and patchouli give it an ‘expensive’ edge.

With 182 fragrances to his name (including creations for Acqua di Parma, Givenchy, and Jo Malone), perfumer Michel Almairac is one of the biggest names in the industry. His creation for Le Labo, Ambrette 9, is (in my opinion) one of the brand’s most underrated scents. It’s overwhelmingly musky but with notes of citrus fruit.

Yes, the very same perfumer behind Le Labo Ambrette 9 also created Ghost, one of the most iconic perfumes of all time. This recognisable scent has captivated those who wear it for over twenty years (in my experience, Ghost fans wear nothing else). Despite being considered a classic, it’s surprisingly affordable - a 30ml bottle comes in just below £30.

A bold and modern take on a classic floral, this Gucci bestseller is intense but wearable. With notes of jasmine, tuberose, and rangoon creeper, it’s fresh, green, and ever so slightly powdery.

The mastermind behind Gucci Bloom, Alberto Morillas, is one of a handful of ‘master perfumers’ in the world and widely considered to be one of the best. He also created icons like By Kilian Good Girl Gone Bad, Calvin Klein CK One, and Marc Jacobs Daisy. When it comes to Morillas' more affordable creations however, my favourite is Roger & Gallet’s Gingembre Rouge. It’s an underrated scent with notes of pomegranate, ginger, and orange. I know this sounds like it wouldn’t work, but of course, due to Morillas’ genius, it does.

I've never met an Ex Nihilo fragrance which doesn’t smell expensive. Fleur Narcotique is an alluring fruity floral. It's feminine and mysterious but powerful, and I’d wager that even those who prefer woody, masculine scents will enjoy it.

Ex Nihilo scents may be luxurious and impressive, but they’re far from affordable, which makes it even more exciting when you can find an affordable alternative. Perfumer Quentin Bisch also created Nuxe’s Le Matin de Possibles, a fresh white floral which is my go-to everyday scent for summer.

I live for all the Maison Margiela Replica scents, but especially this one. Crisp and lively, it perfectly encapsulates a carefree stroll on a breezy beach. It’s a timeless scent with gourmand notes of bergamot, lemon, coconut, and musk.

You might not be aware that Caudalie (best known for its skincare) makes perfumes, but it does, and they’re seriously impressive. The nose behind this particular one (and the above), is Jacques Cavallier, a master perfumer with almost 200 creations to his name. The de Vignes has notes of tea, jasmine, grapes, and honey. It smells expensive (but isn’t).

I think this may be my favourite from the Night Veils collection given that my jaw dropped when I first smelled this. It's so addictive that I could not stop smelling it as I wrote this. Vanilla fragrances tend to have sickly sweet connotations, but this is truly a grown-up and well-rounded vanilla. The vanilla note is warm and slightly honeyed, and very warm from the glow of amber, but it isn't overpowering. It's bold on the initial spritz and radiates off of the skin for hours but soon settles down into the cashmere woods base. It's now a mainstay in my fragrance collection. If you're a fan of Tom Ford Vanille Fatale or Guerlain Angélique Noire, you'll love this too.

The name alone, which translates as "queen of the night," drew me in and totally makes sense. This opulent scent commands attention. It opens with juicy blackcurrant and velvety rose, which pave the way for heady incense and patchouli. It smells sweet yet sour and almost a little boozy in the chicest way possible. It reminds me a little bit of Diptyque Eau Capitale with the strong presence of rose and patchouli. It's a mysterious scent that really pulses off of the skin and will have everyone asking you what you're wearing.

Notes: plum, gardenia, carnation, Indian tuberose, rosewood, honey accord
I first smelled this fragrance in Liberty's Beauty Hall and instantly fell in love. If you're a fan of creamy, white florals like gardenia and tuberose, then I'd encourage you to smell this fragrance. I can really smell the honey and tuberose notes. It's tender and soft, so it's not as long-lasting as the other headier fragrances in the collection. This is a perfume that whispers rather than shouts.

As the notes suggest, if you love a fragrance with aromatic or spicy notes, then you're in luck. Juicy mandarin opens as a topnote, but it's the tobacco and coriander notes that are the heavyweights in this fragrance. All of Byredo's fragrances are marketed as unisex, but this one is too "masculine"-smelling for my taste. 

Notes: cashmeran, black tea, leather accord, tobacco leaves, birch tree, oakmoss
As the name might suggest, this fragrance is all about leather. The brand describes it as "olfactory acrobatics that give the leather fragrance a good whip of the riding crop," which is fun. It's smoky and leathery and definitely taps into the mood of sitting in an aged leather chair with cigar smoke unfurling into the air. But it's given a refreshing uplift with tea leaves and oakmoss. It has also been compared to Le Labo Santal 33 but with much less of the sandalwood note.

Le Labo has many a beauty journalist under its spell, because its scents are just incredible. However, with a 50ml bottle coming in at £170, it is certainly an investment purchase. If you want to try the brand's iconic best-sellers, then this discovery set contains six of Le Labo's most popular fragrances, including Another 13, Rose 31, Santal 33, and The Noir 29. This discovery set is often sold out, so move quickly if you want to get your hands on it. A warm and comforting 'skin scent' (it features the famous Iso E Super molecule which enhances your natural scent), this crowdpleaser is guaranteed to turn heads. It features light fruity notes balanced by jasmine and moss.

I could talk all day about Byredo's scents. You will spot the globe-topped bottles on just about every cool-girl's dressing table, and they really do smell as chic as they look.

Thankfully, Byredo offers a number of discovery sets with 2ml vials based on your scent preferences. This is one of my all-time favourite scents from Byredo. Translating from 'library' in French, Bibliothèque is inspired by the sweet scent of old books combined with plum and woody notes that bring to mind old wooden shelves and cosy leather armchairs. Oh, and it's also available as a candle—perfect for scenting a reading corner in your home.

If you ask me, Diptyque create some of the most beautiful scents around. This set contains five of the brand's most-loved fragrances. These are housed in beautiful vials in a 7.5ml size, which is larger than most perfume discovery sets, which typically come in 1.5-2ml sizes. This set features Do Son (a creamy floral); L'Ombre dans l'Eau (a fruity floral) Eau Rose (a classic floral) and Eau des Sens (a beautiful orange blossom). Philosykos is one of Diptyque's bestsellers. As its name suggests, it's inspired by fig trees, so it takes all notes from different parts of the tree. The ripe fruity note of fig is paired with the green of fig tree bark and leaves, making it sweet but balanced by the woody notes.

Penhaligon's has some incredible scents, and this gift set is especially great for someone who really loves fragrance or who travels a lot. The Changing Constance is one of my favourites from the Portraits collection and I particularly love wearing it during the winter months. Combining cashmere, tobacco, vanilla, and cardamom, it's deliciously warm and sweet but with a decidedly grown-up spin.

There's a Jo Malone London scent that suits everyone, but there are certain favourites that everyone falls for. Floral Street's immense popularity is astoundingly impressive considering the brand has only been around since 2017. Maison Margiela's approachable fragrance line, Replica, has amassed a cult following in recent years with each special scent created to evoke a particular and poignant memory. This best-selling discovery set doesn't include all of the members of the Replica family, but it does house all of our choice scents.

If you're in the mood for cosy, it just doesn't get better than By the Fireplace, which evokes a crackling fire, roasting chestnuts, and the comfort of falling snow, vanilla, and clove. That said, you can't go wrong with other famous inclusions like Lazy Sunday Morning, Jazz Club, and Beach Walk.

Serge Lutens (eponymously named after it's French creator) is a favourite with beauty editors and perfume experts, yet is still fairly unknown to the masses. Although his first perfume, Féminité du Bois (included within this set), was created in 1980, countless additional hits have followed. If you want to treat yourself to something special, indulge in this discovery set. 

La Fille de Berlin (the most interesting rose scent you'll ever stumble upon) is far from a conventional floral.

TBH, I'm completely confused how this fragrance discovery set from perfume legend Frédéric Malle is less than £50 but if you're looking for a gift that says 'I spent a lot' without actually having to spend on a full sized bottle, look no further... 

Labelling a perfume brand both famous and niche feels like an oxymoron, but that’s exactly what anything wearing the Frédéric Malle label inherently is. People have their opinions on which are the best (Portrait of a Lady and Carnal Flower are known to cause obsession), but Uncut Gem, to me, is a complete masterpiece.

This is more than just a fragrance set, rather a full collector's experience. Off-White's debut beauty line Paperwork is a legacy of the now late founder Virgil Abloh's desire for a beauty brand that provides a blank canvas for endless creativity. Paperwork includes nail polishes, crayons and accessories (like cute face stickers) but the Olfactive Box gives you a taster of four different Off-White scents, as well as a fanzine and a Master of the Universe toy. The sustainably manufactured box has been crafted to be reusable for as long as possible, way after you're done with the fragrances. 

Solution No.4 is a warm, woody and leather fragrance that makes it absolutely perfect for the winter months. However, there is a freshness that undercuts the depth thanks to eucalytus and lavender. This scent is unisex, so watch out for anyone who wants to take a close look at your fragrance discovery set in the first place…

Maison Francis Kurkdjian is a relatively new house in the perfume world, but it's already swiftly become one of the most coveted among perfume connoisseurs and in-the-know beauty people. Each fragrance is beautiful, unique, and designed to be worn as part of an "olfactory wardrobe", so this set allows you to experiment with layering scents. And yes, it does include Baccarat Rouge 540 (if you know, you know).

In the seven years since I was first introduced to this fragrance it's gone from being an unknown and underrated gem to a global household name. It’s an indulgent collision of florals, woods, and ambers which instantly turns heads. It makes me think of clinking champagne glasses, rich red velvet curtains, and the world's most expensive candyfloss.

This year, Victoria Beckham released her very own line of fragrances, and they are just as chic as you'd expect. There are three scents in the collection, and each one has been inspired by specific times, places and experiences in the star's life. If you're keen to give all of them a go, then this stylish discovery set retails for just £30.

My personal favourite is Portofino '97, a scent that has been created to capture the thrill of new romance. It was inspired by the beginning of VB's relationship with David Beckham in 1997, and contains spicy notes of black pepper and crisp bamboo combined with sensual amber and vetiver.

Kilian is definitely one of the more interesting and unique fragrance brands on the market, so it's no surprise that everyone from Rihanna and other celebrities to beauty editors hoard their collections of luxe, very exclusive perfumes. Founded by Kilian Hennessy (yes, that Hennessy), the brand has a signature, rule-breaking approach that's paired with smart and sustainable business pillars. For instance, Hennessy's "eco-luxe" philosophy allows each bottle to be refilled and kept for a lifetime. This discovery set shines the spotlight on the most iconic fragrances from the brand, including 'Love Don't Be Shy'––Rihanna's go-to scent.

Parfums de Marly are well known for their decadent floral fragrances, seven of which are housed within this cute keepsake box. You'll spot fan favourites such as Delina and Cassili.

If you're into amberesque notes that aren't too dark and moody, then this has a lighter touch thanks to the addition of saffron and a rose scent descended from the the Saudi Arabian town of Ta'if.

This Parisian perfume brand was founded in 2013, with a mission to use only the finest natural ingredients. Whether you like heady and spicy, light and floral or mix of the two, Ex Nihilo well and truly has you covered. Featuring five signature scents from the brand, the kit is sure to include everything from your next daytime spritz to your ultimate date night go-to. 

The blend of peony, woody accords and fruity notes of lychee, peach and orange blossom make for a truly magical creation. Little wonder it's one of Hailey Bieber's favourite fragrances. 

This wouldn't be an affordable candle roundup without mentioning Zara's offering. For £20, you get 620g of candle, which will give you some serious burn time. This one is the perfect winter scent—a blend of smooth sandalwoood, warm amber and creamy ylang ylang. It reminds me of stepping into an expensive hotel with a dimly lit lobby.

Not only does this beautiful glass jar look incredibly expensive, but the scent inside is amazing too. It has notes of white lotus, violet, mandarin and smooth woods for an uplifting floral scent with a hint of warmth.

Not only does this candle look exceedingly similar to an iconic premium apothecary-style candle, but the scent smells suprisingly expensive too Inspired by "an oasis in the desert", it has sunshine-soaked notes of sandalwood, tonka bean and musk with the calm sweetness of vanilla running throughout.

When I asked fellow candle aficionados on the Who What Wear team what their favourite affordable candles were, & Other Stories came up a lot. So, I hot-footed it to my nearest store for a sniff and discovered some new favourites. Not only are they housed in a minimalistic vessel, but for £17 you get around 38 hours of burn time. This one is citrusy and earthy—think freshly sliced tangerine combined with moss and warming amber.

Perle de Coco was another standout. It's creamy and coconutty and makes you feel like you're sitting on a sun-kissed beach, surrounded by palm trees.

Who What Wear shopping editor Remy Farrell got me on to this candle, and I'll be forever grateful. It smells so expensive. The notes open with guava and pink freesia, which are grounded with rose absolute, saffron and Indian jasmine​. You just have to smell this next time you're in & Other Stories.

H&M have so many brilliant candles at an affordable price point. I find it hard to pop into H&M Home without picking up a candle on my way to the till. If you like fresh, citrus fragrances, then Yuzu Blossom would make a great option. It has notes of yuzu, grapefruit and tangerine, which are great for creating a bright and inviting home fragrance, and the stoneware pot looks seriously chic too.

A candle of the clean-smelling variety, Darjeeling Cotton smells just like fresh laundry with hints of tea and creamy white amber.

I'm snapping up this candle for winter, which has notes of fig, magnolia, patchouli and vanilla beans for an expensive-smelling cosy blend.

The notes in this candle smell very sophisticated indeed. Expect fresh green tea and fig that mellows down with warm amber and sandalwood. 

Sometimes, you just want a dependable citrus candle to have on your desk to lift your spirits while working from home, or even as a decorative feature in your kitchen or bathroom. This one is ideal and looks really chic too.

With notes of neroli, lime and bergamot, this candle fragrance is really uplifting.

When I first laid my eyes on this candle, I was sold by the beautiful glass vessel. At £16, I would have been happy to take it home for the pot alone but the candle inside smells like a citrus dream with juicy oranges, bergamot and green florals.

If you've ever stepped foot inside an Anthropologie store then this is exactly what it smells like. Tropical fruits, including sugared oranges, lemons and limes, give it a citrus freshness while exotic mountain greens lend an earthy edge.

A woody gourmand is how I would describe this candle—think spiced brown sugar, and vanilla loaf cake mingled with rich amber, musk and dark smokey woods. And that jar? Chef's kiss.

While these are at the top end of the £20 price budget in this article, I really think The White Company's candles are great value for money. These really fill the room with fragrance, and it lasts. Seychelles is one of my favourites and reminds me of summer holidays spent on the beach every time I light it.

Why We Love It: I recently posted a picture of my perfume stash on Instagram (controversial, I know), and I was stunned by the amount of editors that messaged me about Diptyque's Orphéon. It has captured the hearts of editors far and wide. I thought it was just me who loved and wore it, but at least 10 other editors messaged me in support. It's a subtle and smoky scent that fuses with skin in a way that suggest you just smell that great. Its growing popularity really hurts my soul (it is my favourite perfume of all time)—but I'm not sure I'm prepared to give it up.

A soft, creamy floral that symbolises the wearable beauty of cotton jersey, it's needless to say it's very, very special.

Nowadays, it's proving less popular (purely because of its mammoth success). However, if you're asking me, those who stuck with it came out on top. It contains notes of rose, patchouli, sandalwood, cinnamon and musk, but you'd struggle to put your finger on a single one. Instead, it creates a spicy, smoke show of a bouquet that you want to drench yourself in head to toe.

Why We Love It: Penhaligon's is possibly one of the most-loved perfume brands amongst British beauty editors. Its age-old juices and traditional bottles really know how to get us excited. Why We Love It: I'm calling it: Amouage Guidance is set to be the biggest niche fragrance of the decade. In recent months, I have smelled it on the necks of every beauty and fashion editor I seriously respect. Yes, it's pricey, but the scent puts every penny of its expense to work. It starts off juicy and fruity with a bite of mouthwatering pear, but that quenching top is entirely enveloped in the most luxurious and intriguing cloak of cream you have ever encountered. Hazelnut, vanilla, rose, saffron and frankincense attack the nose from all angles—it is creamy and inviting, punchy and demanding, spicy and sweet and smoky and intense all at once. If you get the opportunity to smell this just do it and thank me later.

Why We Love It: I have waxed lyrical about Aerin perfumes for many years, and frankly there isn't a single scent in the line up that I wouldn't recommend purchasing. This one in particular, however, stands out from the rest. Most fragrance-loving beauty editors have it on their shelves thanks to its freshly-picked-rose-petal aroma.

Why We Love It: If you don't like typical gourmand scents but like your perfumes to have a warm edge to them, this perfume will tick all of your boxes. It's reminiscent of a French boulangerie but has a depth to it that makes it perfect for evenings. Every beauty editor I know that has tried it absolutely loves it.

Why We Love It: I've been a fan of Maison Crivelli perfumes for years, and in recent months it seems to be the perfume house everyone is talking about. In fact, I recently discovered that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and I share the same favourite in Tubereuse Astrale. The sweet, creamy scent smells unlike anything else out there—like syrupy tuberose petals poured onto a bed of warm leather. It oozes money.

Why We Love It: Remember The Body Shop White Musk from your teenage years? Well, now imagine it got reinvented for adults by one of the most forward-thinking perfume houses out there. Musc Invisible by Juliette Has A Gun should be on every perfume-lover's shelf.

Why We Love It: If you're looking for a perfume that stands out from the rest, Sana Jardin is a great brand to start with. Not only are the fragrances made ethically and sustainably, but they are also beautifully strong and different. Tiger By Her Side is deeply spicy, warm and exotic thanks to vanilla, patchouli and bergamot. I see this one on the shelves of every cool influencer and editor I know.

Why We Love It: As a beauty director, I have spent a lot of time looking after other editor's desks while they are on holiday, and this stuff is almost always stationed next to their desktops. In fact, I have a bottle on my desk at all times too. It's woody and jungle-like thanks to earthy notes of sandalwood and cypress.

Why We Love It: If you struggle to close your eyes and let your imagination whisk you off to the French riviera when you're feeling stressed, this perfume might help. It's balmy, salty and embodies all of the hedonistic bliss of holidaying in the South of France—and that's exactly why beauty editors love it so much. Is there anything chicer than a summer scent inspired by Hotel du Cap? I think not.

Why We Love It: This fragrance, along with Orphéon, is what I deem to be the most exquisite and wonderful in the entire world. I first bought it as I wanted something different (but not too different) to the brand's iconic citrusy Colonia. This stuff has a deep, soapy base to it that is nothing short of intoxicating. I have worn it for years and years and have been forever reluctant to share. In recent years, I also discovered that fragrance expert Alice du Parcq shares a similar love for this stuff, and we bonded over it instantly. While I remain pleased it is getting the love it deserves, I can't help but feel a bit miffed that it isn't all mine.

Why We Love It: Virtually every beauty editor I know is head over heels for Byredo Velvet Haze, and I can totally see why. While we all openly praise the likes of Gypsy Water, Mojave Ghost and Blanche, Velvet Haze is the one we keep to ourselves. Coconut water makes it creamy and sweet, while patchouli, musk and cacao make it deeply refreshing.

Why We Love It: Serge Lutens is one of those fragrance brands that beauty editors will never tire of. It's luxe and is hard to locate if you're not regularly darting in and out of London's high-end department stores. Everything the brand creates is liquid gold. This fresh (but punchy) orange flower fragrance, however, is the crème de la crème.

Why We Love It: You might not be familiar with this one, but you should be. Beauty editor at Fabulous, Tara Ledden, told me that she first spotted this perfume while on holiday in Barbados. She didn't buy it at the time but spent the next six months tracking it down (the lengths we'll go to). A hearty concoction of sweet and dry cedar, and made specially with ingredients that work in synergy with pregnancy and nursing without disrupting the body's sensitivity during this time—it is absolutely exquisite.

Why We Love It: This entire Estée Lauder fragrance collection is a work of art, with each fragrance being blended and created by a different world-famous perfumer. Meet the Byredo fragrance you've never heard of but absolutely need on your radar. I realise describing a scent as "intoxicating" might sound dramatic, but I'm seriously so addicted to this enveloping mix of black pepper, leather, patchouli and vanilla, which, in retrospect, is pretty amazing since I would never classify myself as a lover of peppery scents.

This is a deliciously smooth and velvety perfume that's sweet enough to feel elegant and lovely but complex enough not to feel basic or like anything you wore back in junior high. In fact, I love it so much I keep the matching hand cream on my nightstand at all times. I feel like people in L.A. don't like to ask "what are you wearing?" (the fear of seeming uncool or tryhard-y), but it's a no-fail occurrence whenever I'm wearing this Byredo scent and this Byredo scent alone.

I've always been a huge fan of Maison Margiela's lovely line of Eau de Toilettes, Replica, and one of the best is this yummy (but far from cliché) mix of coffee, pepper, vanilla, orange and cedarwood. It's unlike anything I've ever smelled before, and the compliments have been coming in hot ever since I added it to my regular arsenal of fragrances. According to the brand, it's supposed to evoke the warm and comforting feeling of a coffee shop—creamy, escapist (especially in the middle of winter), and savory with hints of sweetness reminiscent of pastries. It's a truly dreamy scent that deserves your attention.

If you like vanilla scents but don't want them to be too sweet, this one from Diptyque is a spicy yet sultry take on the scent. Pink peppercorn gives it heat, which, combined with the freshness of cypriol, means it dries down to an addictive and alluring fragrance.

While the combination of vanilla and marshmallow might sound too sweet to handle, trust me—it's not. This is Rihanna's signature scent, and the earthy, fruity hits of orange and neroli give it a juicy and robust finish. I never wear it without receiving a compliment, and it's by far one of the best "grown-up" vanilla perfumes on my vanity. You'll be obsessed.

Maybe I'm partial to this classic YSL scent because it's truly wonderful if you're after something vanilla but still very, very chic, or maybe I'm partial because it's Zoë Kravitz's favourite scent. Or, more likely, it's a combination of the two. I love this fragrance because it manages to feel both light and mysterious at the same time. It's not too conventional, but it's also not too complicated. I keep it on my desk for those mornings when I need a jolt of confidence.

This is literally my favourite perfume of all time, and pretty much everyone who I've hugged while wearing this fragrance has agreed. It's been my signature ever since its launch last year, and the fact that Zendaya (my hero) is the face of this mix of vanilla, jasmine, citrus and musk makes it perfect. I've always been a Lancôme stan (in addition to Chanel—my mum wore a few of its staple scents), so it's a warm and fuzzy line of fragrances that is only punctuated with this new debut.

Jo Malone London makes some of the most iconic and well-known perfumes, and over the years, I've accrued a few favourites that always win me compliments. When I first sniffed this new debut from the brand, I had mixed feelings, but after I had let it melt into my skin for a few hours, I quickly became kind of infatuated with it. It's strong, but it's been winning more attention than my other standbys (which are below), and I'd be willing to bet my life savings that this luxe vanilla perfume will go down in history as one of the brand's absolute best.

This vanilla from Serge Lutens is so supremely decadent and divine. It's my go-to antidote if I happen to wake up on the wrong side of the bed or have an anxiety-provoking day ahead of me. If you're a vanilla lover like I am, this is a scent to worship. It's buttery, warm, woody and just so mellow and rich. I happen to love what Lutens said of this specific fragrance: "To paraphrase Freud, it's not the evil who are full of regrets, but the good. Both the devil and vanilla like black."

Trust me when I say that this is dreamy. It's how you would like to think you smell naturally—clean and fresh, but sweet and sensual too. One of the newer additions to the Byredo perfume family, Mumbai Noise is a strong and deep scent that will have you sniffing your wrists all day long. It's a rich, warm blend of woods, amber, leather and coffee that will transport you to Indian food markets on a blistering hot day. Essentially, it's nomadic escapism in a bottle.

If you ask team Who What Wear, we'd say Blanche is perhaps Byredo's most underrated perfume. It's like fresh sheets, showered skin and tumble-dried fluffy towels all in one. This stuff is the definition of a your-skin-but-better scent.

It stays true to its name, with most people feeling deeply confused on first spritz. First of all, it's nose-tinglingly sweet, then comes the deep woody base that settles into an actually very wearable scent. Spraying Mixed Emotions takes you on an olfactory journey that leaves you feeling quite content.

If there's one thing to take away from this roundup, it's that Byredo knows a thing or two about rose perfumes. The latest rose addition, Young Rose, is deep, spicy and ticklish on the nose in all of the right ways.

"Eyes Closed buys into the current trend for soft, skin-inspired scents. It's delicate and papery, but also warm and comforting, thanks to notes of ginger, patchouli, and papyrus," says Day. "I wore this on my wedding day so it's such a nostalgic scent for me."

A Byredo scent created exclusively for Liberty, Heliotropia blends fleshy white flowers (think wild gardenia and jasmine sambac) with sweet sugar-like notes and spiced incense. If it sounds like a lot, it is. But in a good way. In a way that makes you want more and more and more.

Inspired by a photograph of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin (also known as the stupendously famous photographic duo Inez & Vinoodh), Byredo created a perfume that is somehow spiced, smooth, crisp, smoky and warm. One to smell before you buy, disciples rave about this Byredo perfume even now, eleven years after it first launched.

Like all Aesop fragrances, Ptolemy is interesting from first sniff, but becomes exponentially better as it burns. With notes of cypress, cedar, and vetiver, it’s fresh and woody but rounds down to something earthy and resinous. I find it very welcoming and comfortable, perfect for scenting a hallway or lounge.

Okay, this is a personal favourite of mine. When I need to be in the mood to clean, I light this. Inspired by fresh cotton sheets, it’s fresh and airy, but has a surprising depth and weight to it. The main notes are lavender, freesia, and magnolia, but thanks to a warm, musky base it’s not a conventional floral. I really rate Beauty Pie candles - the scent blends are always interesting and they have great throw and longevity.

I’ve never visited the Caribbean, but I can only imagine this is exactly what the lobby of a fancy beach-front hotel on Antigua would smell like. Part fruity and part woody, it’s a vibrant cocktail of rum, leather, plum, and bergamot. Plus, if you like it as much as I do, you can also purchase an eau de toilette version.

I’m quite certain that every single one of Penhaligon’s candles gives hotel lobby vibes, but I can’t stop smelling this one. Perfect for autumn and winter, Anbar Stone starts off dark and smoky, but become increasingly sweeter, thanks to notes of honey-like amber and creamy tonka (a more mellow alternative to vanilla). If ‘hotel lobby’ brings to your mind book-filled shelves and studded leather armchairs, you’ll love this.

& Other Stories has one of the most underrated affordable fragrance collections, and their candle line is just as good. Palette Cypress is a bright and breezy blend of bergamot, açai, geranium, and cypress, with a heavy dose of leather that gives it a sophisticated edge. It burns powerfully and balances out to be equally warm and floral.

Aromatherapy Associates focuses on creating fragrances that celebrate scent as a form of self-care. Inspired by the calm and tranquility of nature, this comforting and uplifting mix of ho wood, pink pepper, and cyprus doesn’t just smell good - it makes you feel good. If your favourite kind of hotel is a spa hotel, look no further.

If you’re unfamiliar with Soho House, it’s a collection of members-only lounges and hotels with locations in cities such as Berlin, Istanbul, London, and New York. So yes, the company knows a thing or two about luxury home decor, and in 2016 launched a separate interiors brand, Soho Home. Now, Soho House locations are scented with Soho Home candles - so you can quite literally take the hotel lobby scent home with you. My favourite is Pomelo, a citrusy concoction of grapefruit and jasmine inspired by the Miami House.

This one is unique in that it’s actually inspired by a hotel, so it really doesn’t get more ‘luxury hotel lobby’ than this - a spicy and smoky aroma with hints of incense. According to perfumer Jo Malone, The Beaumont is "inspired by old fashioned glamour and sophistication,” and "instantly evokes a sense of 1920s decadence and grandeur”. 

Like all Le Labo scents, this is the kind you’ll become addicted to after one sniff. Smoky and leathery but also woody and subtly spicy, Santal 26 is sensual and unforgettable.

Byredo is known for its complex and interesting perfumes, but it also has a collection of scents exclusively available as home fragrances. Inspired by the comforting feeling of freshly-washed linen, Cotton Poplin is delicate and powdery, combining notes of blue chamomile, white cedarwood, and sweet musk.
