We made it! Finally, it's the first Monday in May, which means that the chicest celebrities and tastemakers are busy ascending the famous steps at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the 2026 Met Gala. This year, the museum will display an exhibition titled Costume Art, with the ball's dress code being Fashion Is Art. Guests were asked to "express their own relationship to fashion as an embodied art form and celebrate the countless depictions of the dressed body throughout art history," and so far, many have done what they were told. (There are always a rogue few who don't, a daring choice given how often non-thematic looks are met with negative reviews.) Naturally, cohost Beyoncé knows better, rising to the occasion like she always does—and doing so alongside her daughter Blue Ivy Carter, who made her Met Gala debut tonight.

For tonight's ball, Beyoncé's first in a decade, the Cowboy Carter singer chose to work with Balmain's former creative director, designer Olivier Rousteing, together creating a silver, skeletal naked dress fit with a matching crown à la her sister Solange's Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination headpiece from 2018 and a feather cape. (In 2016, at her last Met Gala, she dressed in a peach-colored latex number by Givenchy.) The crown wasn't the only embellished accessory she wore, though. With it, she worked with Chopard, curating a mix of diamond pieces, including a necklace in 18K white gold with one 6.41-carat brilliant-cut diamond and 140 carats of additional diamonds. And that's not counting the bracelet, earrings, and rings.

Her daughter went a simpler route, donning a white, strapless bubble dress with a shorter hemline that perfectly showed off her Cinderella-esque pumps and a coordinating bomber jacket, both by Balenciaga. A diamond necklace with a yellow diamond pendant was the star, while her brown cat-eye sunglasses gave her look a feeling of unbothered coolness that only a 14-year-old girl could pull off. Yes, she's 14, and yes, we're feeling old too.

On the red carpet, Beyoncé was the picture of a proud mom, saying, “She looks so beautiful," about her daughter. "It’s incredible to be able to share [her first Met Gala] with her.” She also praised her daughter’s red carpet posing, saying, “She was ready! She is ready.”

Much like Carrie Bradshaw's infatuation with shoes, I have my own specialist subject, and that's handbags. Over my eight years in the industry, I have been up close and personal with some of the rarest Birkins, one-of-a-kind Chanel bags and handled new season totes before they've even hit the shelves. Taking my expertise in the area into account, below I'll take you through the most exciting revived It bags of the moment.

1. The Chloé Paddington

Twenty years after the first release on the spring/summer 2005 runways, the Chloé Paddington bag hit the runways once more for autumn/winter 2025. The pull was instant, drawing in a long waiting list that mirrored the original's extensive pre-orders, with stylish people setting their clocks against the launch time of this long-beloved bag.

The original style was created under the then Creative Director Phoebe Phil, a name that will come up again in this list of returning It bags. Whilst Chloé was and still is often associated with soft silhouettes and delicate palettes, the bag was a tougher stance, relaxed in its slouchy form, making it instantly a favourite amongst the fashion crowd.

The defining details of the bag have endured the passing time. The bold lock is the first eye-catching detail, a heavy-weight upgrade from the more demure locks that also accented bags at the time. It's a handbag motif that many lent into at the time, as you'll see, but the Paddington made it an eye-catching addition rather than a securing feature. The east-west silhouette is also exaggerated, whilst fitting neatly under the arm and forming to the body thanks to the supple leather. From the rounded handle base to the stud detailing and buckles, the look of the bag has been retained for its revival, with a sleek array of colourway options to suit.

2. The Mulberry Soft Bayswater

One of the most iconic Mulberry bags to date is the Bayswater. First launched back in 2003, the classic appeal and spacious interior launched this bag straight onto the arms of It girls everywhere. Naturally, it never truly fell out of favour, and with a devoted following, Mulberry looked to reinvent the style for the modern day; enter the Mulberry Soft Bayswater.

Whilst many of the It bags on the list have received a serious amount of hype, the Soft Bayswater has quietly become the IYKYK bag that the original always was. Taking clear design details from its predecessor, the new Soft version maintains the striking handle motifs and flap shape, whilst gaining a more pared-back look, a more supple shape, and a serious dose of ease. The supple form of the leather is a nod to the original style, with long handles for over-the-shoulder wear and a slight east-west silhouette to update the bag for 2025 (and beyond).

3. Balenciaga City

Originally introduced as the Motorcycle bag in 2001, Balenciaga's It accessory broke away from the more structured silhouettes of the previous decade. The ease of the bag brought a vintage, well-loved feel to the style that, alongside the lack of distinct branding, saw the bag become an insider favourite fast, as supported by a series of sightings on celebrities such as Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. The hardware detailing that eluded to the biker feel set the bag apart from polished styles as a bag that could bring an edge to luxury.

The lightweight form, the attached mirror and the longer shoulder strap ensured the bag became a practical companion for the everyday. Since it's release, the bag has become known as the City bag, even renaming itself as Le City for its easy everyday appeal. Sightings of the style continued over the years, but in 2025 a renewed interest was awoken, as even two decades later the bag still held its distinct look and eternal appeal.

4. The Miu Miu Metalassé

Rather than the return of a bag, has come the return of a handbag motif: Matelassé. First introduced on the 2006 autumn/winter runway, the pleated leather effect on the handbag quickly became an iconic feature of Miu Miu's designs, and now it's set for a return.

Be it clothing or accessories, there's a joy-filled vein that runs through all of Miu Miu's creations, and the tactile ruching of the Matelassé lends itself perfectly to the brand's aesthetic. It's a sweet edge, sometimes lent into with sugary sweet pastels or juxtaposed with more distressed effects. Either way, it's a clear iconography for the brand

For 2025, the soft ruched motif has been applied to a series of new and returning icons. The Wander and the Arcadie are gaining traction with every day, both of which feature this pleated treatment. Without any sign of logo or reference, the leather effect has become a signal of the accessory's origins, distinct to Miu Miu.

5. The Fendi Spy Bag

As soon as the news arrived that Fendi was reissuing the Spy Bag, I knew I had to get my hands on it. A few months ago, I took the bag out for a day, and fell in love, once again, with the playful yet elegant appeal of the style.

First unveiled on the spring/summer 2005 runways, the Fendi Spy Bag quickly grew a cult following that launched the bag into the same stratosphere as the beloved Baguette and coveted Peekaboo. The dumpling shape is iconic of the bag, with double handles moulded from the bag's body, and a flap closure with a secret. Inside, a hidden pocket can be found, storing your most treasured possessions close to hand.

Whilst the original Spy bag came in a series of neutrals, bold shades and pattern mixing, the new version feels like an elegant older sister. The leather has been smoothed and softened, the handles less textured, taking on a twisted effect instead. The colourways, too, show the evolution of the style, ranging from classic black to rich burgundy.

6. The Louis Vutton Speedy

The Louis Vuitton Speedy bag has a long history dating all the way back to the 1930s. First presented as a travel tote, the luggage brand expanded into everyday accessories, updating the Speedy along the way. The original was made in size 30, then came the variety in sizes to offer more versatility to the wearer. With the iconic Louis Vuitton monogramming, the bag was eye-catching, a nod to its luxurious and well-crafted origins, notes that continue with the current styles.

The Speedy has maintained its prominence in the handbag world over the years, with popularity rising every so often alongside noteworthy collaborations. The early 2000s saw the first time that Louis Vuitton collaborated with Takashi Murakami, bringing rainbow monogramming to the beloved Speedy bag and once again igniting fashion's adoration with the style. It came to define the decade, spotted on a series of celebrities, in films and featuring on wish lists across the globe. Twenty years on, the second drop arrived, and the Speedy once again was thrust into the limelight.

Whilst many counted down to the release of the second Louis Vuitton X Murakami collaboration, the appeal of the bag in its original colourways also returned. Over the past few months, stylish people have been adding the Speedy to baskets, unboxing their originals and searching resale sites to add this iconic style to their outfits.

7. The Celine Luggage

In the 2010s, it was rare to go a day without spying a Celine Phantom bag. Welcoming in the new decade, creative director at the time, Phoebe Philo, brought a sophisticated, structured tote to market, and the fashion crowd took note. Much like many of the It bags on this list, it was understated, elevated and had all the hallmarks to cement its place in the best designer bags list for a lifetime. Decades on, the current creative director, Michael Rider, has decided its time to bring it back.

Now named the New Luggage, the bag is returning for 2025, bringing with it the distinct elegance and ease, but with a twist. The look of the bag with its simple double handles, boxy front and winged sides has been retained, along with the noticeable front piping. But a joyful reinvigoration is underway as Rider exaggerates the east-west shape, emboldens the wingspan further and upturns the iconographic zip into a playful smile.

From a mile off, the bag is still identifiable as a Celine bag, now with a fresh silhouette and accent detailing to show its progression to its 2025 form.

As an editor who appreciates a good handbag, I’m always on the lookout for the newest it style that will dominate the fashion scene, and this is especially true as a new season approaches. With autumn finally here in the UK, I’ve been searching for a luxury handbag that’s elegant, timeless, and most importantly, worth the investment. It has two roomy sections, including one at the front that has been left intentionally open for easy access. Not to mention the bag features reinforced side snaps that enable its folds to expand when needed, as well as four studs in silver or gold hardware so that the silhouette can hold itself up.

Available in mini, small, medium, and large sizes as well as an east-west shoulder style, the bag can be styled and worn for any occasion, whether you opt for a larger size to pair with tailored trousers and loafers for the office or one of the smaller iterations to style with jeans and a chunky knit for a day in town. The styling possibilities are endless.

With prices starting at £2250, this bag is by no means cheap. However, much like the Margaux, its timeless design, effortlessly chic shape, and minimal logos make it an investment that won’t date as years go on, ensuring it will stand the test of time in your wardrobe.

I have a lot of questions for Victoria Beckham. One being, What's your favourite of the 15 engagement rings David gifted you? When will we get a follow-up reality show to Victoria Beckham: Coming to America? I could go on. But no question is more pressing in my mind right now than this one: How on Earth did you get through airport security wearing Balenciaga's controversial Pantaleggings? 

The trousers in question were worn by Beckham on a flight into New York City's JFK Airport alongside a cinched cargo-style jacket, a black clutch bag, and oversize sunglasses of her own design. Essentially, they're leggings, but instead of cutting off at the ankle, they keep going all the way around a pair of attached stiletto heels. Named the Anatomic Pantaleggings, her exact style first debuted in Balenciaga's winter 2023 collection and features an even sharper heel than past versions. Basically, they're an airport security manager's worst nightmare, which is why I'm still left wondering how the former Spice Girls member made it past the scanners with her outfit intact.

It's important to remember that we're talking about *the* Posh Spice, though. We all know that heels and a good outfit are paramount to the Beckham matriarch's happiness. We're not meant to question her sometimes daring fashion choices, even at the airport, where practicality almost always wins out over style. Clearly, she made it onto her flight and to NYC just fine. I probably wouldn't follow her lead in this exact instance, but more power to anyone who wants to try.

I can't be the only one who's noticed just how good Hailey Bieber's style has been these last few months. From straight-off-the-runway pieces from Saint Laurent to trend-focused looks for nothing more than a day of errands, her unmatched taste is absolutely showing. But super-buzzy outfits aren't all the supermodel is donning these days. She could also teach a masterclass in easy, everyday styling, with her latest look being at the top of the curriculum. 

In a series of low-key selfies posted on Sunday, Bieber showcased the ultimate timeless combo: a vintage leather jacket, a comfy knitted vest and a pair of blue jeans. To slightly trend it up, she added a pair of semi-sporty sunglasses from Balenciaga and her usual body chain, but for the most part, her vest-jacket-jeans combo will stand the test of time. It's for that reason that I immediately began searching for ways to re-create it upon spotting all three segments of her look. (I do, indeed, get notifications when she posts on Instagram.)

There's no getting around the fact that we've all dramatically reduced the amount of time we're spending outside, so it's pretty interesting to note that global fashion search platform Lyst has revealed that trainers are the top-performing category worldwide right now. Over the past 15 days, there has been a growing demand for sneakers, and there are five styles in particular that people are after the most.

The five most-searched-for styles right now include Converse high-top sneakers, New Balance 530, Golden Goose Superstar, Balenciaga Track sneakers and Off-White Vulcanized sneakers. Despite the fact that we'll only be using these shoes to carry out our one bit of exercise a day, they'll still be the most important item we'll invest in right now. Known for being a fairly private celebrity, Emma Watson isn’t out and about every day. So when she does make a public appearance, it makes it all the more special. Over the weekend, Watson stepped out to attend the New York premiere of Little Women, appearing on the red carpet flanked by her equally stylish co-stars, including Laura Dearn and Saoirse Ronan  

For the event, Watson chose a black floor-length gown from Balenciaga’s recent S/S 20 collection and paired the dress with thigh-high velvet boots. Though, if you’re thinking this was your average, run-of-the-mill dress-and-boots combo, you would be mistaken. Not one to follow the crowd, Watson made this dress entirely her own, opting to tuck its hem into the top of her boot on the left side. 

Creating what would ordinarily be a revealing leg split, Watson was instead able to show off the length of her navy-coloured boots. It was a unique styling choice, to say the least, and one we think only Watson has the fashion prowess to pull off. 

In terms of hair and makeup, the actress opted for a messy top-knot and bold lip. Emma then finished her look with a shell-shaped clutch, also by Balenciaga.

It's been a year since Christopher Kane showcased his footwear collab with Crocs, sending a bejewelled pair down the catwalk for his S/S 17 collection, but now another designer has decided that Crocs are a high-fashion item. This time, Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia decided to give the "ugly" shoes an overhaul, which debuted during his Paris Fashion Week show yesterday.

Instead of prettifying the shoes with gems à la Kane, Gvasalia opted to make the controversial shoes stacked. The platform Crocs were adorned with bright stickers and came in a variety of colours including canary yellow, taupe, and black. Considering that Gvasalia's collections for the fashion house have influenced nearly everyone in industry right now, including tonnes of high-street copies (Hint: There's a reason puffer jackets and sock boots are everywhere), are these shoes about to become as ubiquitous? Have you ever wished for something so hard that it actually came true? Well, if you've ever wished for over-the-knee boots that don't scrunch down on your legs, then you're in for a treat. Although, you may not be ready for the solution…

Enter "pantashoes." Created by Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga, these body-conscious, spandex boot–legging hybrids will set you back around £1000 and are inspired by fetish wear. But don't let those little facts stop you from imagining them everywhere (including your wardrobe) this autumn. Because that's what's going to happen, you know.

It doesn't take much for a Gvsalia trend to catch on—all fashion fans need is a whiff of a trend scent, and they're off. (Think Vetements' IKEA logos, lighter boots and so on.) But Demna isn't letting this one go unnoticed by the masses: Almost every single one of his '80s-tinged looks for Balenciaga's A/W 17 runway featured a pair of these pull-on spiked stilettos, which also go by the name of "bants" (boot-pants).

And with the success of the previous season's extreme over-the-knee boots, is it any wonder the boundary-pushing designer has taken the idea one huge stride further? While you can date this idea back to the 1960s (decades ago Pan-T-Boots emerged in the States as a kind of hosiery-boot panacea to solve the slipping-down problem), the pointed finish and lurid colours of Balenciaga's new iterations are anything but retro. But look at them in black and you'll see that they are both sculpting and modern (and already favoured by Kim Kardashian West).

While some may have pre-ordered them, you can now get your hands on a pair via Net-a-Porter. We predict "pantashoes" could even make their way down into high-street retailers soon. With A/W 16 shows now done and dusted, we allowed MatchesFashion.com's buying director, Natalie Kingham, all of, oh, about 24 hours to give us her top-line digest on what's going to be hot next season—and therefore, precisely what you need to know now.

We've pinpointed some of the styling trends you can get onboard with already, but if anyone knows what's going to be a retail smash in stores, it's her. We knew Alexa Chung was onto something! The style icon has recently showcased a wardrobe almost exclusively comprised of velvet. There are plenty of pieces you can shop now to get the look early—seek out jewel tones for extra impact.

The fashion industry's relationship with logos, branding and monogramming is a bit of a love/hate one. Right now these stamps are back in town—in a BIG way—but for a long time the idea of wearing conspicuous marks of any label was considered gauche and cheap. That was way back when stealth minimalism seized the runways (hello Phoebe Philo's debut Céline collection in 2009!) and even handbags only whispered of their design homeland in the smallest, subtlest ways.

A few seasons ago, radical upstarts started hijacking the recognisable motifs and brand names of our visual style culture, using them to emblazon cheeky novelty goods, and the slogo—that's a hybrid slogan and logo—was born. Take Brian Lichtenberg's Homies or Ballin tees—both a naughty take on Hermès and Balmain, both flew out of stores.

Now high-fashion designers have done a 360, reclaiming this important part of a brand's DNA for themselves. Meaning that for S/S 16 J.W.Anderson printed Loewe's name all over dresses and sporty bags, Chanel had plenty of signature double CC action covering dresses and accessories alike, and Nicolas Ghesquière employed his fashion house's classic logo for LV-monogrammed biker jackets—as well as bags and shoes—at Louis Vuitton.

Then there are the creatives who are taking more common logos and reinterpreting them—buzzy brand Vetements is offering you a yellow DHL T-shirt (it's already sold out in two sizes!) or the fact that luxury e-stores like Net-a-Porter have Nike swooshes or Adidas Originals trefoils nestled amongst traditionally high-fashion wares.

There seems to be a consensus among members of the fashion community that New York girls just do it better. Paris might still be the reigning fashion capital of the world, but there's a certain je ne sais quoi about the way NYC gals dress.

To help us capture that essence, we enlisted the help of Marissa Webb, our resident stylist and full-time New York City resident. We asked her: What is this magical formula NYC girls use to get dressed everyday?

"I don’t think there is a must-use 'formula,' so I use that term loosely," Webb says. "However, I do think having a few styling tricks up our sleeves helps us New York gals pull it together every day."

Have your accessories ready to go! Always have accessories top of mind for days when you need to pump up your look and you don’t have the luxury of time. They can quickly take a look from simple to fashion-forward."

Because the pace of New York doesn’t slow down, we city ladies probably give our shoes a lot more thought than one would consider to be normal. One trick is pairing comfortable shoes with something dressy, or the reverse: pair dressy heels with something casual on top.

Always think of opposites and contrast–an outfit usually looks more interesting with items that fall under different categories. Think long with short, dressy with casual, soft with hard, and masculine with feminine. This could be as simple as wearing a nicely tailored, straightforward suit and popping on a pair of dramatic chandelier earrings.

Know the proportions that work for you. Wearing heavy, slouchy layers on top? Style them over something slim on the bottom. If you're going slouchy and baggy on the bottom, pair it with something slim on top.

Have your third piece ready. New York City girls know you always need a third piece, even if it's 100 degrees out; once you walk into the office, you’re going to be freezing.

You should know when to go bold or go neutral with your makeup. My formula is one of opposites: If I’m wearing something bright and bold, I play down my makeup, and if I’m wearing neutral colours and need a pop, I’ll add a punched-up lip or eye.

Lastly, all New York girls know: when you're not sure what to wear and you're out of time, you can always rely on black or white.

One of the biggest challenges we ladies face with summer style is taking our favourite casual daytime looks into the evening. When you're at the pool, the beach, or brunch in a caftan, hitting the bar after in the same outfit isn't always the best idea. (Read: Beachy babe can swiftly turn into beachy mess.)

To help us along on this journey of dressing cute during the summer days and nights, we consulted our resident stylist, Marissa Webb. 

"I think we all want to be comfortable during the summer heat but still look polished," Webb tells us. "I find that having a few key styling tricks is really helpful in pulling together a look that’s well balanced for day and night."

Structured handbags and dressy shoes paired with your favourite comfortable jeans give your comfortable look a more polished edge.

I love a classic T-shirt! I dress mine up by pairing them with lightweight wide-leg trousers or by layering a blazer on top. Adding something a bit more polished with something casual is a great way of dressing up your easy summer pieces.

Think maxi–maxi-length pants, skirts, and dresses. Toss it on and pair with your favourite heels or dressy flats, and maybe add a statement necklace to pump up these otherwise relaxed items.

Layers are key—not in your apparel, but in terms of what other items you can layer on top of your favourite cotton blouse and comfortable bottoms. Think down to your nail polish; often it's the little details that complete the look. Changing the accessory layer around your favourite comfortable clothes can transform a look. I rarely leave home without my bracelets, and I'm currently seeking more statement earrings to pair with my white T-shirts.

It’s no secret that Target collaborations garner a lot of buzz. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that most recently, it was Lilly Pulitzer for Target that sold out instantly—going on eBay for more than double the price in some instances. While we’ve loved all the collaborations to date, each in their own way, they got us thinking: What if we could choose the next one? 

And choose we did! While we don’t know how much actual impact our dream collaborations will have on Target’s next move, we had the amazingly talented Laura Kay of Diary Sketches illustrate them anyway!

One of the great ongoing battles of fashion is what you should spend real money on versus what you should buy on the cheap. I personally would invest in a great handbag. It’s something that you use every day and, in a neutral colour, will last you for many years.

You need a beautiful pair of flats and a classic pair of heels. Select pairs that give a bit of personality to any outfit, but at the same time can be paired with almost anything. I also like to make sure I have a great pair of flats that I can wear on the days I know I’ll be on my feet all day, but still need to look dressed.

The perfect trench coat will never go out of style and is easily incorporated into many looks. 

Another investment piece is a great-fitting blazer that easily takes you from day to night. There are just so many ways to wear it—I personally love it to dress up a pair of jeans.

Celebrate something that's important to you with an investment piece you can wear everyday.

Invest in a perfectly tailored little black dress, and have it ready to go in your closet. You never know when you'll need to make a quick change, and the LBD is always appropriate.

Here at Who What Wear, one of our favourite pastimes is keeping a eye out for whatever the next It-bag, It-shoe, and pretty much It-anything will be—and we've got a pretty solid track record when it comes to predicting the next big thing. Once Mulberry hired one of Céline's biggest accessories designers a couple weeks ago, we thought the title of next It-bag would surely belong to the U.K. label. But now, there's another major contender in the ring.

Balenciaga just released a small line of equally small bags—tiny little box bags with chain straps that are set up to be major on the street style scene. Why? For three very good reasons.

1. It's a new direction for the brand.

Since Alexander Wang took over as the brand's creative director about two years ago, he's reinvigorated the brand with modern touches, and this new line of bags is no exception. WIth the metallic hardware and boxy shape, they're perfectly on-trend to take off.

2. There's a lot of hype around the limited-edition version.

According to Style.com, there will be a limited-edition version of the bag released in January in an electric blue leather. (The standard editons come in more subdued navy, black, and pink colorways.) And there are few things the fashion community loves more than a limited-edition handbag.

3. The bubblegum pink colour is total street style photographer bait.

The world's most photographed bloggers, editors, and tastemakers all know that street style photographers are obsessed with the colour pink, and this new bag is just begging to be photographed on the shoulders of these women.
