This year I’ve tested Tala, an eco-conscious affordable activewear brand that uses recycled materials to create stylish, high performance essentials for different types of exercise. It's also the It brand I see on stylish London girls in every spin class I go to.

For reference, I’m 5ft 4, I’m a size 10-12, with a bigger bust. Usually, I’d wear a size M in tops and a S-M in bottoms, depending on the piece. I’m someone who exercises fairly regularly, loving HIIT classes that you find at F45, 1Rebel and Barry’s Bootcamp and the like. But as well as being someone who enjoys keeping fit, I'm a fashion girl at my core. By this I mean I still like serve even when sweating, squatting or even doing a burpee, so refuse to accept that sportswear has to be the least chic thing in your rotation. Actually, as someone who has been known to wear a flared legging to the office, and is partial to a quarter zip pullover, I'd consider myself a bit of an expert when it comes to activewear pieces fit for wearing on and off the treadmill.

And with that, I tried on much of Tala's collection for 2026, and these four looks were the ones I loved most. These were my honest thoughts.

The Best Tala Pieces for 2026

1. Dayflex Wrap Flared Yoga Pant + Zip-Through Sports Jacket

My review: If you were to see me at the gym, there’s a 99% chance I’ll be wearing black. Classic and forever-cool, I feel my most comfortable in an all-black ensemble. Despite usually being an avid slim legging person, lately I’ve really enjoyed flared leggings, just as its a style I'm happy wearing out the office. These I've tried on are part of the new Dayflex range, in a 30’’ leg and size S, the length is absolutely perfect. As the name suggests, these have been designed for yoga, which I think they'd be great for. If you're more of a runner or enjoy spin class, I would recommend a slimmer silhouette, as, by definition and design, they're less streamlined and either flap in the breeze as you run, or can get caught in your bike pedals. In terms of fit, they’re a little tight around my waist, but I love how they look when I have top layered over the waistband.

The overlapping ‘V’ shape waistband sculpts my stomach slightly, which I love, and the high zip jacket in a M feels snug in the way that it’s supposed to. I could have gone up a size in both, but there’s nothing worse than baggy activewear, so I’m happy with how these feel. Special shout out to the square neck sports bra and tank top, which snatches and lifts my upper body. I’m a 34E, and am wearing a size M bra and top, so if you have a bigger bust like me, and don't want a huge cleavage, I'd recommend sizing up.

2. Dayflex Wrap Legging + Cocoon Zip Through Hoodie

My review: As you can probably tell from the selection of items I've chosen to style in these four looks, I'm not usually one for vibrant colours. As mentioned, I wear black to workout most of the time, but the odd occasion I fancy venturing out of my all-black comfort zone, it's likely to be a shade of brown, cream or white. Tala's colour palettes are sumptuous and rich, offering earthy greens, buttermilk shades and, as shown here, a few tonal coffee hues. When testing the Dayflex Wrap High Waisted Legging, I went for mocha brown, and paired it with complementary tones like this hoodie in Oat Marl, and I'm really into how they work together.

But how do the pieces fit? The leggings, which are an icon for the brand, I was really impressed by. Cleverly designed with a sweetheart overlapping 'V' shape waistband, they sit perfectly on the waist and ensure comfort even when doing core exercises like crunches (which I find isn't always the case). I had the full length size, and they are slightly too long, so I'd recommend getting the 7/8 style if you're on the shorter side.

The hoodie fits exactly like its name suggests, like a cocoon. I really like this silhouette, and honestly have't tried one like this before: slim and cropped on the waist, but with these balloon-like arms and large hood, it's really hitting the mark in terms of being sweats with a subtle difference. It's also an incredibly soft cotton.

I'd also like to call out the sports bra which isn't pictured, the Dayflex Bandeau sports bra, which I styled in Americano. As someone with a bigger bust, I have to say Tala's bras probably aren't supportive enough for me to do high intensity training in them, but this one particularly is great for lower impact workouts, and just felt great to wear. It also had adjustable straps on the back help you get the best fit for your size, which I often find is overlooked with basic activewear bras.

3. Dayflex Capri Legging + 365 Boat Neck Top

My review: This is probably my favourite look of all four, simply because I know I'd wear each piece outside of the gym. I've long been looking for a simple boat neck top for everyday, and this is a great option for work, to work-out. I don't normally love a tight-tight top, often feeling a little exposed, but there's something about Tala's compressed fit pieces that make me feel good about an ultra-slim silhouette. I think with this top specifically, it's the extra thick fabric, which feels more like a warm hug than a way to reveal more than I want. This being said, I do worry that this extra thick fabric will make me quite warm, but for hiking in winter, or a gentle stretch session, this would be perfect.

Now let's talk about the leggings. Full disclosure, I am a capri legging addict. Despite this shorter length being a little passé for a decade or so in activewear trends, I've noticed that it's really making a comeback lately. The deep waistband sits at the perfect spot on my waist, right on the tummy-button, which feels quite '90s and chic. Most capri styles I find have a small split on each hem at the side, but I think not having this (like these) is much neater. I also love their seamless design, which makes them feel less like activewear in their aesthetic. Personally, I would rather wear these for lower impact exercises, where I don't need to wear a bulky pair of running trainers, but can switch it for a slimmer trainer silhouette, or even my Nike Air Rifts like pictured here.

4. Dayflex Floaty Shorts + Elevated T-Shirt

My review: This is honestly one the softest, best-fitting t-shirts I've ever tried on. And as you can imagine with my job, I have tried and tested a lot of t-shirts in my time! Usually, I wouldn't wear a standard cotton t-shirt for the gym, just because it's less breathable and has a heavier weight than those options made in recycled polyester. However, when paired with the shorts, this is the type of thing I'd choose to wear for padel or tennis, which come the spring months, I tend to play every fortnight. I love this soft grey colour as I'm terrible at keeping white, white, but the downside to grey, as many of us know too well, is that it shows the sweat, so I would say this is best for less active sports, or an option for a throw-on tee for the post-class coffee or juice. In terms of its fit and shape, it's slightly oversized, without being overbearing. The arms are a little more fitted, and the ribbed crew neck feels thick and sturdy.

As this look for me was less about my usual work-out routine, and more to showcase the extra pieces Tala offer, I wanted to show two very different options for the bottom half. The Dayflex Floaty Shorts are definitely the more sporty option: they're loose and oh-so comfortable, so perfect for those that like to avoid tighter silhouettes like cycling shorts and leggings. I love the zip-up pocket, this is a minor detail, but I don't think I've ever tried a pair of sports shorts that have a zip-up hidden pocket before. Usually it's a secret flap, which isn't great for valuable items (airpods case, phone, jewellery etc). So this is definitely something that impressed me.

On top of these, I styled this look with the Everyday Tailored Trousers, which I was also most impressed by. Not many activewear brands do fashion or loungewear pieces so well. The elasticated waist gives the comfort, but the wide leg and pinstripe design feels very on point to sartorial trends of late. I would definitely wear these in the office, at the weekend et al, but it goes without saying that they're not so fit for exercise.

With the new year now in full swing, I'm keen to set some personal goals, kick-start fresh habits and actually set aside time to work on myself. Getting back into a new gym routine is high on my priority list, as not only do I want to keep my heart healthy and my body feeling toned, but I also love the feeling of endorphins I get from a good, sweaty workout. I typically mix things up with cardio, weights, floor work and yoga for full-body conditioning, but admittedly, I did fall off the wagon a little over the festive period. It's time to get back to business.

To get me into the mood for my fresh start, I wanted to try on some new gymwear—pieces that feel fresh, stylish and practical. My current rotation of workout gear feels a little tired, and so I was excited to check out the latest collection from H&M Move. I've heard great things about it from friends, collegues and fellow gym-goers, so giving it a real spin for the first time felt well overdue.

H&M is one of the biggest players on the high street and is constantly at the forefront of trends, as well as offering solid wardrobe staples and affordable items which are deceptively expensive-looking. The brand has been designing its workout-friendly Move line for several years, and this season, the collection is inspired chiefly by hot Pilates, infrared saunas and cold plunges (all of which I'm looking to introduce to my weekly exercise sessions in 2026). Aesthetically, this collection is all about '90s minimalism: clean lines, sculpting silhouettes, smoothing fabric and pared-back colours (hello, ink black, ivory white, soft sand and pomegranate), powered by a new fabric H&M is pioneering: SculptMove.

“This collection is about glowing from the inside out, facing the future with purpose and power and feeling excited. We wanted to channel all the energy, anticipation and transformation that comes with starting a new year into pieces that will make you feel and look like the best version of yourself," says Marie Fredros, head of design at H&M Move.

For context, I am 5'8" and typically take a size 12, medium or large, which suits my height, shape and curves. I tried on everything in a Medium, which felt spot-on and true to size thanks to the compressive nature of both the sports tops and leggings. The H&M Move collection is offered from XS to XXL, which, according to the size and fit guide, should benefit those looking for pieces from a UK 6 to a 22, catering to a wide range of body types and needs. I tried on pieces in colour-coordinated combos (which is how I like to style my activewear) and gave each a thorough review, providing pros and cons to help you decide if they'll work for you.

The Best H&M Move Pieces for 2026, Tried and Reviewed by a Fashion Editor

1. Sculptmove Sports Jacket + Vest Top + Leggings + Waterproof Jewellery

My Review: I'm not typically one for an all-white look (I'm a coffee drinker, after all), but this soft ivory-toned set felt like exactly what I need for 2026: a clean slate, fresh start and clear perspective for my workout goals. The base of the look is comprised of H&M Move's new signature Sculptmove pieces, including a vest top and leggings and finished with a bodycon Sports Jacket. The fabric feels buttery soft on the skin, and each piece promises to be moisture-wicking, quick-dry and breathable, which is necessary when getting a real sweat on.

I loved the hug-like fit of each of the items. Leggings that roll down and sports bras that don't compress my chest adequately are my biggest ick when it comes to activewear, and these pieces felt like they wouldn't fall into that category. The jacket has a slim-fit shape and short, stand-up collar, as well as full-length arms with thumb-holes for that extra bit of comfort and coverage on chilly days.

To complete the outfit (and for the others you'll see below), I opted for long white ankle socks (from a five-pack) and a pair of chunky white-and-silver trainers. As far as high-street trainers go, these felt premium and comfortable, but truthfully, I know I would normally opt for a tried-and-tested sports-specialist brand for a sneaker that can go the distance. These will get you to your morning classes just fine, however.

Cleverly, H&M is now offering waterproof jewellery made of 100% stainless steel, so you can still add a hint of shine to your 'fit without the worry of it tarnishing or turning your skin a funky shade of green. The simple huggie hoop earrings and snake-chain necklace are a highlight. All in all, I really liked the clean lines and fresh hue of this full look, and I feel like it would be perfect for Pilates and yoga sessions.

2. Loose Fit Sports Hoodie + Sculptmove Medium Support Sports Bra + High-Waisted Leggings

My Review: For those seeking a punchy, bright and head-turning gym ensemble, might I suggest this fuchsia-pink set? Admittedly, the hoodie itself is an ever-so-slightly different shade from the sports bra and leggings (the hoodie is a few shades lighter), so this is worth noting if you were seeking something truly monochromatic. Otherwise, you can opt for the Sculptmove tee or sports jacket in the same hue for a head-to-toe pink moment.

The hoodie feels warm, chunky and soft, the cropped fit is modern and flattering and I love the classic kangaroo pocket and loose feel; it's easy to whip over your head pre and post-workout.

In terms of the sports bra, it's a classic cropped fit and has medium support with a round neckline and removable cups, which can be taken out with ease depending on preference. The leggings have a high-waisted cut, which I liked for that extra touch of coverage on my abdomen. Hot pink was not on my 2026 bingo card, but for the greyest days of winter, this is a nice dose of dopamine dressing.

3. Water-Repellent Padded Sports Jacket + Sculptmove Sports Vest Top + High-Waisted Leggings + Weights

My Review: Next up, I gave this tonal taupe look a whirl. I do love a look that feels like an extension of my everyday capsule wardrobe, and so this neutral but modern colourway is something I naturally gravitated towards.

I tried on the Sculptmove Sports Vest Top and matching High-Waisted Leggings (having already loved them in the ivory colourway), and teamed them with the corresponding Water-Repellent Padded Sports Jacket, which was a true match in colour (a win!). There's even a two-pack of wrist weights in the same beige tone, so you can add a bit of resistance to your workout, stylishly.

The jacket was a favourite of mine, as the light padding and weather-repellent fabric would mean I have no excuse not to step outside and take that short walk to the gym, whatever Mother Nature throws at me. The square cut, funnel neck, cropped cut and discreet side pockets make it look ultra-modern, timeless and chic, and it will effortlessly pair with infinite leggings and cycling-short looks. This is the outfit I adored the most. It felt like the most "me", and the dark, biscuit-y shade will stand up to frequent wear, sweat and weekly wash cycles.

4. Sculptmove Sports Top + Cycling Shorts + Tote Bag

My Review: Last but not least, I tested this sleek, minimal and dare I say quite sexy two-piece in black. Comprised of the Sculptmove Sports Top with long sleeves and the Sculptmove Sports Cycling Shorts, this ensemble would be just the ticket for a dance class or gentle weights session.

The long-sleeve cut of the top features thumb holes (quite '90s, no?) and a chic square neckline. The hem is neither cropped nor long, but right in the middle, which means it teams perfectly with the cycle shorts, which have a regular cut, if you're comfortable showing a flash of midriff. Going back to the top, it does, in fact, have bust support, so you might not need a bra too (depending on how much bust support you require).

Black is, of course, a fail-safe shade for both curated day-to-day wardrobes and athleisure, as it pairs with everything and can withstand stains, sweat and the perils of constant daily wear. I'm saving this set for warmer days when I dare to get the pins out. I also checked out the frosted-white tote bag, which was easy to throw over my shoulder, apt for holding all of my sweaty items post-shower and even large enough for a towel and water bottle, too. Ideal!

I've had many addictions in my time—Nutella, Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse (I was 14 at the time), and more recently, the last series of Curb Your Enthusiasm. But what's taken more space in my life than even Larry David of late, is exercise. Not a 2024 resolution, I'm more of the mantra 'new year, same old me,' but since joining 1Rebel last year before my wedding, I have found a new love for working out. 

More for my mental health than anything else, I've found that a variety of classes is what I need to actually enjoy the gym. Of course, the sexy changing rooms, fit with GHD straighteners, beauty products and a fridge filled with frozen towels also helps. In light of my new-found obsession, I've bought more fitness gear than clothing in the last 6 months, and as such, have become an expert in the perfect leggings for every type of exercise—be it running, yoga or spin. 

Where once I didn't really think about different leggings for running or pilates, I now find myself digging into my drawers to find what I consider the perfect pair each morning when I pack my bag depending on the class I'm doing that day. 

It goes without saying that for many of us, leggings have a place in our wardrobe outside of the gym. And so they should! Comfortable, practical and actually very of chic, they've rightfully replaced the skinny jean when wanting a form-fitting silhouette. Some are better than others for such occasions, Vuori's seamless AllTheFeels leggings are my first choice when considering leggings outside of athleisure. With knee high black boots and an oversized cashmere jumper and these are perfection. When it comes to styling them in a more casual way, for example with sneakers, a sweater and big sports socks (my weekend uniform), Adanola is my go-to. But the leggings I've been most impressed by are Pangaia's, simply because their cutting edge material science has developed plant-based elastane, proving a sustainable solution to workout wear. 

I know better than anyone how hard it can be to find the perfect leggings because we not only have different shapes, but needs. So, whether you're after the ultimate all-rounder, the perfect pair for pilates or the most squat-proof, I've put together a list of my most-loved leggings. 

BEST FOR RUNNING: ADANOLA

To be fair, I would wear my Adanola set for any exercise. They’re so soft, and hug the body in a way that feels like a second skin—no sagging, tightness or discomfort, when they’re on I almost feel naked. If I’m being really honest with myself, one of the main reasons I love this brand is for the way they look. It’s no secret that gym wear has gone up a gear in the last decade and we’re no longer just wearing our dad’s old t-shirts that we also wore for bed the night before. We want to be able to express our personal style, even on the treadmill. With Adanola’s retro sporting motifs (like on this sweater, which I live in), matching bra tops and delicious colour palettes, I find myself often opting to wear these pieces for coffee runs, dog walks and everything in between. But because of the breathability of these leggings, the comfort I feel with where they sit just above my waist, they’ve fast become my go-to for classes on the treadmill, where I will waver between uphill jogs, fast sprints and parachute mode (If you know, you know). 

BEST FOR HIIT: GYMSHARK 

I’m a HIIT class addict (for those blissfully unaware, this stands for High Intensity Interval Training), and the one thing I’ve learnt from my many sessions is that you never know what you’re going to get thrown at you. Much like circuit training, you’re likely to have an abundance of stations with different exercises that work the whole body. As such, you need an all-rounder that has you fully prepared. GymShark’s Crossover leggings fit the mould for me here because not only are they moisture-wicking (I sweat a lot doing HIIT, and if you don’t, you’re probably not doing it right), but they’re also pretty squat-proof. Weight-lifting tends to come part and parcel with this type of class, as well as fast-paced body weight drills such as burpies and mountain climbers, so you need to feel fully confident when on the floor and bending over. It also has to be said that if you have a bigger bust, GymShark’s full support sports bras are second to none. 

BEST FOR PILATES: PANGAIA 

If you’re looking for a legging appropriate for low intensity work-outs, try Pangaia’s Active wear 3 collection. I’m always so impressed by the brand’s incredible sustainability credentials, this activewear series is designed with plant-based elastane and sprayed with peppermint for a natural door determent—making their innovation in material science makes them industry leaders. I love the ribbed high-rise waist, it's so comfortable for mat workouts like pilates, yoga or core. In the cooler months I like to pair mine with my Pangaia cashmere knit and padded gilet, but in the summer nothing beats wearing these with the matching sports bra.

BEST FOR SPIN: H&M MOVE 

H&M's fitness brand H&M Move has long been a go-to for me as the price point is so affordable. I know it's often the case that cheaper items of clothing don't stand the test of time, but I have to say the sports bras and leggings I've bought from H&M Move over the years are still some of my favourites, especially for Spin classes. Why? Well, whilst bike workouts are cardio, they're not as intense as HITT, so I don't require the same level of breathability or stretch. I also find the high-waist on H&M's leggings to sit the most high on my abdomen, which I love when I'm hunched over the bike (others that are too low I can feel a little exposed and uncomfortable in). Because of this fit however, I do find them a little bit too long for running (I'm 5ft3", so quite petite), but anyone taller probably won't find this. My love for this brand though really extends beyond its leggings range, it really nails the athleisure trends, and offers complete sportswear ensembles and accessories for the cool-girl on a budget. From jackets to sweaters, crop tops and joggers, it has it all.

BEST ALL-ROUNDER: VUORI

If you're looking to invest in a really (and I mean really) great pair of all-rounder leggings, Vuori's AllTheFeels are the pair for you. Running, jumping, squatting, stretching—whatever the type of movement, you're bound so be über-comfortable and able to perform your best in these. Truth be told it was difficult for me to pick an exercise I like to wear these most for, as I genuinely will wear them for everything, both in and out of the gym (I love them with something oversized on top, like a big shirt or XL jumper and knee-high boots). What I love most about them is the fabric, it's incredibly stretchy but without being baggy or causing sag, and is also very soft. This makes the matching bra which I also have a joy to wear, but is best for lighter exercise if you have a bigger bust and require high support. They're extremely comfortable—would it be weird to note that my fascination with the fabric is tied into its ability to make them not tight yet not loose?—Perhaps, but it still makes me firm on my verdict: they may be an investment, but they're a worthy one.

In my experience, the search for the perfect sports bra is akin to the search for the perfect pair of jeans. It takes many changing room visits, several close calls with shoulder dislocation when trying to get them on and off, and for many of us, a battle with our self-esteem as we examine our tightly squeezed boobs to see if they're likely to stay in place. It's basically a workout before you've even worked out. We feel lucky and relieved if we eventually manage to find one that ticks the boxes.

My personal experience of finding suitable sports bras has been nothing short of arduous. Measuring at a 34FF, finding a sports bra that fits well at the band and across the bust has felt impossible at times. After a particularly long bout of no luck, I've taken it upon myself to Track down the very best styles out there. And, because every body is different, I wanted to get a second perspective. So, my colleague Georgia and I (she's around a 34D) hit the shops to try on some of the best sports bras on the market for ourselves.

1. ALO YOGA WILD THING BRA

Natalie's review: This ultra-soft V-neck bra offers light support and a secure finish. I opted for size L—which I tried across brands for consistency—and found the cup size to fit perfectly, though I didn't feel that there was a lot of support at the band. However, for a gentle yoga flow or as a comfortable bra to lounge in, I would reach for this without hesitation. In terms of the style, I found the V-neck cut very flattering and liked the thick straps.

Pros: Comfortable fit, long-line cut and thick bands.

Cons: Very light support—only suitable for very low-impact activity.

Support rating: 5/10

Georgia's review: Before I get into my reviews, just a note to say that Natalie and I largely agreed on our feelings about all the sports bras we tried. As two women with boobs bigger than those we see on 90% of models brands use to photograph their sportswear, we found that the bras from the premium brands we tried were clearly designed for light activity and frankly—smaller boobs. I tried a size M throughout the styles, apart from when it literally didn't fit and I had to borrow Natalie's L. 

This one from Alo is a case in point: pretty and a flattering cut but no more support than a tight crop top. 

Pros: Flattering cut, comfortable 

Cons: Thin fabric, little to no support, expensive.

2. ADANOLA ULTIMATE SCOOP-NECK STRETCH WOVEN BRA

Natalie's review: I liked the shape of this bra—I'm always fond of a square neckline—and the longer length, but I found that it was significantly smaller than the others that I tried. I didn't feel that there was a lot of support at the band, rather the support came from the compression. I wouldn't feel comfortable running in this, but would be happy doing weights or hiking.

Pros: Great colour, long-line cut.

Cons: Uncomfortable for pro-longed wearing.

Support rating: 4/10

Georgia's review: Again, I totally agree with Natalie. She actually had to lend me her size L to try because the M genuinely wouldn't stretch enough for me to get it over my shoulders! This one runs very small, and it has an inner lining that cups under your boobs for compression which adds to the tightness. I didn't find it comfortable and felt like I'd be constantly readjusting. It's a lovely colour and shape though, so I'd be willing to give the size up a go to see if it's comfier. If your chest is bigger than mine or Natalie's though, forget about it. 

Pros: Fab colour, could be worn as a crop top thanks to the square neckline, affordable

Cons: Runs very small (and only goes up to an XL), inner lining uncomfortably compressed my boobs.

3. SWEATY BETTY SUPER SOFT PICOT LACE STRAPPY BRA VEST

Natalie's review: I loved the length and cut of this hybrid sports bra and vest top. The straps were comfortable and the built-in bra offered adequate support. Ideal for light exercise such as yoga or pilates.

Pros: Comfortable fit, flattering cut, supportive for a vest top.

Cons: Struggled to find a size that neatly fit my bust as well as my torso..

Support rating: 5/10

Georgia's review: This bra vest really is super soft, and it was a nice fit. It didn't sit as smoothly down my torso as in the brand's image, but my boobs felt well-supported and I wouldn't hesitate to grab it for one of my more chilled pilates classes, or simply for pottering about. It's nice to see brands offering tops with built-in support for those who don't like to have their tummy on show but also don't want to wear additional layers. 

Pros: Lovely, soft fabric, flattering neckline, ideal for those who want to cover their tummy, decent support for a low-impact class

Cons: Doesn't sit flat and rides up, not enough support for running or jumping.

4. MARKS & SPENCER GOODMOVE ULTIMATE SUPPORT NON WIRED SPORTS BRA

Natalie's Review: Ideal for a run or HIIT class, this bra supported me from all angles. I loved the front-zip finish and that I could select my bra size, rather than "large". I opted for my typical size and it fit perfectly.

Pros: Easy-to-use zip fastening, comfortable and very supportive.

Cons: Less flattering shape than some of the other styles.

Georgia's review: There's a reason many of us in the UK get our very first bras from M&S and remain loyal for life. Granted, this one may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, but the front-zip closure is nothing short of genius (no dislocated shoulders here) and, like Natalie's, my boobs were firmly caged in by the thick fabric and structured cups. I'd even wear this for HIIT. 

Pros: The zip closure is life-changing, thick fabric and structured cups provide proper support, affordable

Cons: Not the chicest.

5. VUORI STRIDE BRAND-PATCH STRETCH-WOVEN BRA

Natalie's review: I found this style less comfortable than the others—simultaneously too big and too small. The cup size was quite tight, whilst I found the underneath band and the shoulder straps too loose to offer significant support.

Pros: Classic, flattering cut.

Cons: Unsupportive finish.

Support rating: 3/10

Georgia's review: I was pretty happy with this one from Vuori in terms of fit, but for over £60, I'd need more support. The size M fit me comfortably and didn't dig in at the back like some others I've tried with back cut-outs, so I'd happily wear it as a comfy crop top or even for a gentle yoga flow or something more restorative, but for me, it wouldn't hold up for more intense exercise. 

Pros: Comfortable fit, smooth finish, doesn't dig in at the back

Cons: Expensive, only offers light support for bigger boobs because of the low cut.

Natalie's review: Coming in at only £13, this affordable sports bra offered the support and comfort that I was looking for. Fuss-free and comfortable, this is deal for days when you need medium support, such as for a barre or spinning class.

Cons: Lacks easy fastening and has to be put on over the head.

Georgia's review: This longer-length crop top style was one of my favourites. The higher neck means bigger busts are kept more secure (no risk of your boobs falling out here—which, let's be honest, is a very real possibility with low-cut styles), and the functional fabric is structured yet soft. I also appreciate the nicely elasticated waistband, removable cup inserts and the fact that it comes in seven colours. 

Pros: Flattering shape, sits smoothly, higher neck provides security for bigger boobs, comes in lots of colours, very affordable, available up to XXL with a petite option. 

Cons: Padding may not be preferable to some, boobs could feel squeezed at the sides depending on size and how they sit.

What are the Main Differences Between the Different Types of Leggings?

The leggings market is one of the most oversaturated in the industry. Between inseams, lengths, fabrics and finishes, it's a struggle to know where to begin when shopping for pants, let alone know what to look out for when buying a good quality pair. "The main differences lie in fabric feel, support level, and intended activity," explains Another Version founder Shelley Cook. "[The brand] designs leggings for real life—whether that’s a workout, a long walk, or a full day of errands," she continues.

"Our Second Skin Leggings are our all-time best sellers, and for good reason. These are buttery, lightweight, and made for all-day wear. Our Ribbed Sculpt leggings offer a compressive, stay-put fit more suited for high-intensity movement, but still maintain a good balance of structure and stretch."

The primary difference ultimately comes down to the level of exercise you're doing when wearing leggings. For pulse-racing HIIT classes, you'll want to look for something more sculpting, while low-impact workouts can benefit from a softer finish.

How Can you Find What Legging Length Suits you Best?

Finding the right legging length comes down to your "height, proportions and how you want them to fit and feel," explains Hars. Typically, legging lengths are one of the following: full length, 7/8, crop and capri. As the name suggests, full-length hits right at the ankle, while 7/8 falls between your joint and the bottom of your calf. Crop finishes right around your muscle, and capri is a true three-quarter length.

"Full-length leggings (28" and above) suit longer legs, while 7/8 length (typically 24"–26") flatter most people and hit just above the ankle," explains Cook. "If you’re unsure, start with 7/8—they’re the most universally flattering in our opinion.

What Specific Activities Suit Different Types of Leggings Best?

Whether you're running to the gym or heading to brunch after a boxing class, specific workouts benefit from wearing specific leggings. Just like you wouldn't wear jeans to a spin class, there are specific materials that complement best and can actually enhance performance.

"The right leggings depend on your activity and desired look and feel," Hars tells me.

"For Pilates, yoga, and gym workouts, a snug, supportive fit with light compression and four-way stretch fabric offers flexibility and stability," she adds. "For running or higher-impact workouts, more compressive fabrics can help reduce bounce and fatigue. For slower movement, recovery, or lounging, cotton blends prioritise breathability and comfort over compression."

If you're looking for just a general do-it-all pair, Hars explains that something like the brand's SoftSculp fabric is ideal. "[It] combines sculpting support with a buttery-soft, second-skin feel. It features four-way stretch and strikes the perfect balance between compression and comfort. Ideal for all types of workouts and everyday wear." Consider me sold.

What Should You Look Out for When Buying Leggings?

If you're not testing the stretch and sheerness of leggings in person, there are a few tell-tale signs that you can look out for when shopping for the best styles online. "When it comes to performance leggings, the fabric composition might look similar on paper, but quality can vary significantly depending on construction, weight, texture, and finish," Hars notes. "Even among polyester-spandex blends, key differences in weaving, thread types, and treatments greatly affect how the fabric feels, performs, and looks," she continues.

So, where to start? "Consider how you want the leggings to feel," she explains. "Some fabrics offer a brushed finish with a cosy hand feel, while others have a sleeker, more technical look—perfect for a sculpted, elevated appearance."

Compression is another key factor. "Do you prefer a held-in, sculpting effect or a softer, more flexible fit?" Hars asks. "High-quality leggings offer excellent stretch and recovery, move naturally with your body, and maintain their shape after wear. Look for flat seams and always ensure the fabric is squat-proof."

"Ultimately, it’s about finding a pair that fits how you want to move, feel, and look," she reminds me. This is something Cook agrees with: "When leggings feel comfortable and luxurious but hold you in, that’s a sign of quality. We stand by feeling like the best, most confident version of yourself when you put on a pair of our leggings."

How Can you Tell If a Pair of Leggings are Good Quality?

There are also small indicators that give away whether a pair of leggings are good or bad. According to Cook, these pointers include: "A waistband that stays up, fabric that doesn't go sheer when stretched, and seams that don’t dig in or chafe. If it feels good from the moment you put it on, you're on the right track." Hars mentions a few other factors.

"High-quality leggings feel smooth and balanced in weight, not flimsy or overly shiny," she adds. "When stretched, the fabric should hold its shape without becoming see-through or loose. Examine the stitching and waistband. The seams should be clean, flat, and reinforced, and the waistband should hold without digging in or rolling down. Good leggings recover well after wear, returning to their original shape. Most importantly, try them on to experience comfort and support."

What are the Best Materials for Leggings?

You may notice that a lot of leggings brands use a lot of synthetic materials, but fear not. It's often the case that hybrid material blends make for the best leggings fabrics for a few reasons. "A blend of nylon and elastane is a top choice because it offers durability, stretch, and a smooth finish," Cook advises. "Nylon is breathable and resists wear, while elastane adds that perfect stretch-and-recovery."

If you're planning on working up a stretch, activewear leggings can also benefit from being made of "high-quality recycled polyester blended with spandex". According to Hars, this combination offers "durability, sweat-wicking properties, shape retention, and the right level of sculpting and stretch". "It’s technical enough to support movement while feeling smooth against the skin, perfect for that elevated, performance-meets-comfort feel," she adds. "For low-impact or lounging activities, organic cotton blends with a touch of elastane offer softness and breathability, though less sculpting."

What is the Best Way to Wash Your Leggings?

To preserve and extend the life of your leggings, Hars suggests "turning them inside out before washing to protect the fabric and maintain colour and stretch." You should also avoid using water that is scorching hot. Rather, she explains to "use a cold, gentle cycle and avoid fabric softeners, which can break down performance fibres over time." Once all washed, Cook tells me that letting them to air dry will help leggings keep their shape better. "Skip the dryer and lay flat or hang to dry. This protects elasticity, colour, and shape, keeping them looking newer for longer."

What is the Difference Between Leggings and Yoga Pants?

Yoga pants are an alternative to leggings that many celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber have begun gravitating toward to. But what actually are they, and how are yoga pants different to leggings? "Leggings are typically tighter throughout and come in various fabrics and fits for both lifestyle and athletic wear. Yoga pants traditionally have a flared or bootcut leg and are made for movement with softer, brushed fabrics," Cook outlines. "These days, the lines blur, but leggings tend to be more versatile for both workouts and streetwear."

Is it Okay to Wear Leggings Every Day?

One of the biggest questions I get asked as a fashion editor is whether it's truly fine to wear leggings every day. When I sounded this question off around the Who What Wear team, the responses were varied. To some, this look feels a little too relaxed, while others think it's perfectly fine, as long as some consideration and care is put into elevating a staple part of the activewear uniform. The subject that is so polarising that it's often espoused that French women conspicuously change into leggings once they get to their workout class to avoid being seen in public wearing them. But we let the experts weigh in on this topic to get a full rounded answer.

"[Wearing leggings everyday is a hill we die on!" says Cook. "Today’s leggings are designed to move with you, support you, and keep you comfortable all day. A good pair of quality black leggings is an essential in any capsule wardrobe and can be endlessly styled." Hars, not too unsurprisingly, also agrees. "Well-made leggings combine comfort, style, and function. Whether you’re doing Pilates, running errands, or heading out for lunch, they offer an effortless look from studio to street—a modern wardrobe essential." Well there you have it.

ICYMI, (and honestly if you have missed it, dare I ask, how?) the women's football World Cup tournament is well under way in Australia. Since the team's win at the Euros last year, there's actually a fragment of hope that England may progress quite far this time too (win, even!), meaning this is quite possibly the most excited we've collectively been over any sporting event, ever. 

But support for the women's team isn't just turning up to the pub on game day and cheering on as if we understand the off-side rule (I actually do know the off-side rule, just FYI), it's wearing your football shirt with pride as many times as possible, during and beyond the tournament itself.

Anyone with even a remote interest in fashion will tell you about the rising popularity of #Blokecore and "Soccer Girl" aesthetics trending on TikTok and beyond, which seem to be a different take on sporty fashion after years of hype over athleisure and streetwear. Style Notes: Kicking us off, we have the kilt. Jerrylyn and I actually both own kilts, and we fought over who would get to wear theirs for this shoot. As you can see, I lost. Style Notes: Denim midi and maxi skirts have had as much love as the aforementioned silver trousers over the last few seasons, for which we have Y2K and Gen Z to thank. Ramp up the noughties nostalgia with a pair of kitten-heel slingbacks, or if you want to remain more casual, the Air Max 95 in neon is the sneaker of choice. 

4. DAD JEANS + VOMERO SNEAKERS

Style Notes: I've called these dad jeans, but rest assured, they are in fact mine. What I mean is they're big, they're baggy and they're bleached—exactly as my dad wore them with his Newcastle United shirt back in '95. Along with my Nike Vomero trainers (which, between us, I think are the new New Balance 530s), this is dadcore at its finest.

Nothing style-related has undergone a reinvention quite like leggings. Just a few short years ago, many would have shuddered at the thought of leaving the house in leggings, that is unless the destination was either the gym or the school gates at 8.28am. Okay, so I'm being overly exaggeratory, but it's true for me at least; I just wouldn't have had the confidence to do so. And that's quite sad. 

However, in recent years, leggings have become a lot more commonplace outside of athleisure and have morphed into something quite chic indeed. The more I've seen people styling theirs with blazers and jumpers, and finishing with sleek boots or loafers or trending trainers, the more I've come around to wearing them as I do my jeans. Be it for brunch dates, coffee runs, trips to the shops, or even low-key dinners out, leggings are no longer off limits (albeit my own self-imposed limits) for me. 

This new-found liberation means I've become something of a legging fanatic. My collection is small, but I'm always on the look-out for elevated options to add to it. Comfort is still a key priority, but why can't I have it all and look chic in the process? It might sound like too much to ask but, in actual fact, I've found five fresh leggings trends for 2023 that fulfil my requirements. In fact, I've already purchased a pair—here's looking at you, COS—which I've hardly taken off since they arrived.

Style Notes: Now here's a leggings trend I didn't see making a comeback. A large part of my teens saw me wearing miniskirts with cropped, pedal pusher-style leggings underneath. Now, I keep seeing fashion types wearing leggings that hit just below the knee, albeit more chicly than I did in 2006.

Style Notes: As wide-leg silhouettes have become increasing popular where trousers and jeans are concerned, it should come as no surprise that leggings are also being given the wide-leg treatment. While the tops of the leggings still fit closely to the body, the legs themselves are cut straighter than normal, which creates a flared effect. Kendall Jenner has already pledged her allegiance to them; will you?

Style Notes: Make no mistake, Y2K-style leather leggings are slowly creeping their way onto the scene once more. Hailey Bieber recently wore a pair and, now that I've clocked on, I keep seeing them on social media, too. Real or faux, there's an option out there for you.

We've all noticed the uptick in legging styles returning to our everyday. Over the past few years, this formfitting style has levelled up from being reserved for the gym and claimed space in our everyday wardrobes. Emily Ratajkowski never ceases to amaze me with how often she reinvents the outfit wheel. She's a pro at taking basics and making them surprisingly exciting by pairing them with trendy items you'd never expect. In fact, she does this practically every time she steps out of the house.
