One of the best parts of my job is working alongside an array of stylish women. Each day when we head into the office, outfit inspiration is in full effect, and there's often a conversation about someone's latest purchase or recent Vinted find. After almost a decade of working in the fashion industry, I've developed a kind of sixth sense when it comes to the pieces that will sell out next.

For years, I've watched new-in items soar in popularity and spent hours refreshing in case of a restock, and now I'm able to predict the next best-selling items as soon as they appear in any given new-arrivals section. On a recent morning scroll of the new-in buys at some of our favourite retailers, I instantly noticed an expensive-looking tote bag I think is destined to go out of stock as quickly as it arrived. There are particular details I look for when predicting a sell-out piece: a refined design in line with fashion's current love for pared-back, minimalist pieces. I like to approach the frenzy of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales with a calm and steady mind, preparing ahead of time with a list of what I actually need and then doing my due diligence to filter through everything before (panic) committing to a decision. I'm following a less-is-more kind of sales strategy, so when one is faced with over 20,000 items on sale at ASOS the word overwhelming doesn't even cut it.

For every time I've found myself standing perplexed in front of the wardrobe, there has been a pair of sunnies to fix it. Tired and in a rush? A white tee, jeans and everyday black specs. Heading out on holiday? A swimsuit, shorts and a playfully coloured pair. Dressing up for a formal event? Well, I'm summer-wedding ready in a floaty maxi and oversized sunglasses. Even at a photo shoot, you'll find me in a confidence-boosting pair of sunglasses. (In fact, I bought three pairs of my current favourite Le Specs Rapture glasses before they sold out.) Sunglasses really are the finishing touch to any outfit as soon as the weather heats up, and who better to ask about the styles to know now than Hamish Tame, creative director of Le Specs?

3. GENERATION Y2K 

When it comes to channelling the current Y2K aesthetic, there are plenty of sunglasses-wearing icons to take inspiration from: Legally Blonde's Elle Woods, Anastasia, Paris Hilton, Britney (and Justin). Aim for candy colours, translucent or no frames, and any diamanté details to score extra points. Just add a Juicy Couture tracksuit.

Weddings can be hard to dress for. Maybe it's being held in a different country or climate, maybe you won’t know many people there and are feeling nervous about being judged, or maybe you need to find a dress that can take you comfortably from a church ceremony to a late night (and early morning) on the dance floor. There’s often a lot of pressure placed on this outfit choice too. That may be the fanciest outing you have planned that year, so you’ll want to make the most of it. If it’s been the topic of conversation amongst friends for months already, that outfit will likely appear in many photos for years, if not decades, to come.

With all of this in mind, my key thought when finding a wedding guest outfit is always, Will I be comfortable in this all day? For example, if I know it’s going to be a hot day, I would look for a dress made from natural fibres, 100% organic cotton or silk. I don’t want to be sweating in polyester. I would also look for something I can wear with comfortable underwear. There have been too many times that I’ve worn a dress that required a strapless bra, only to find I want to viciously rip off the metal-filled torture devise only two hours into a 12-hour event—never again! I’m actually a big fan of certain shapewear, as I love the feeling of being secure, and I feel like it helps my posture and eases back pain. But I would suggest wearing the shapewear before the event as a little test run. Sometimes, you might not notice areas that niggle without wearing it for a few hours, so it’s best to know beforehand. I go for shapewear shorts to prevent thigh chafing and will sometimes wear a shapewear slip dress on top of these and my bra for a smoother invisible-underwear look under tighter dresses.

You also want to feel comfortable mentally. For me, this is usually making sure I feel comfortable with how low-cut my top is, as I feel happier in an outfit that covers my chest. I’m all for pushing your boundaries when it comes to fashion. However, I believe that a day-long event like a wedding might be a better place to push your boundaries with something like colour or print, rather than shape or silhouette. Basically, you don’t want to be pulling up or tugging down areas of your outfit all day because you don’t feel sufficiently covered.

When choosing your outfit, you need to remember to look on your invite to see if the couple have given a dress code. But I always go by the rule that it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve likely seen that I enjoy a colourful or printed outfit. I very much enjoy a bold look. I also really enjoy the conversations these looks start. I find an outfit with a little story to tell is a brilliant way to meet people, and it’s especially helpful if you don’t know many people at the event.

I would take this opportunity to look to smaller brands that might have more unusual made-to-order or pre-sale pieces, such as Mary Benson, Loud Bodies and Olivia Rubin, as you usually have plenty of time to plan. I would also check out rental sites like Hurr or By Rotation. Hurr has dresses from brands such as Ganni, Selkie and my own brand, Dolly Rocket. Then as a starting point on By Rotation, I would search for the profiles "lucy_earnshaw,” "Jbird” and "abimarvel,” as they have lots of plus-size options you can rent. Next, I would look at ASOS Edition and Never Fully Dressed, which always have lots of beautiful dress options. One recent exciting addition to the plus-size world has been Sister Jane (available on ASOS). Although its plus-size pieces only go up to a size 22, I am always here for progress! Marks and Spencer’s has some gorgeous dresses in at the moment which are available up to a size 24 and, in some cases, are even available in longer lengths if you’re taller. I would also have a look on Simply Be, and although I find that some of their event dresses aren’t my style, there are a few gorgeous pieces by the brands Anaya With Love, Hope & Ivy and Jo By Joanna Hope. Don’t forget that Anthropologie, Warehouse and Karen Millen also have plus-size options now. Finally, if you have a higher budget, it’s worth looking at Marina Rinaldi, Coyan, Dima Ayad and 11 Honoré.

Yes, I do enjoy a heeled boot during the winter months, but when it comes to needle-thin stilettos and arch-crippling soles, I'm afraid my tolerance is fairly low. This is why shopping for party shoes has become my fashion nemesis, and with my 30th coming up at the end of the month, I knew I had to bite the bullet. Thankfully, ASOS saved me a whole lot of grief, as it just created the perfect pair of party heels.

Coming in a classic Mary Jane silhouette with a chunky platform heel and high-shine patent finish, these shoes certainly pack a punch. I was worried that they'd look too schoolgirlish, but when styled with sheer tights and a minidress, they honestly looked so chic. Best of all, I can confirm that they are super comfy despite the added height of the platform. I found they rubbed a tiny bit on the front edge of the shoes, but nothing that a few wears can't soften up.

Size-wise, unless you have super-narrow feet, I would definitely go one size up. I'm usually a UK 6, but after reading the reviews, I went for a 7, and they're pretty much an ideal fit. I can't wait to slip them on with my 16Arlington rental dress for my birthday dinner. Oh, and did I mention that they're only £30? You're welcome. Despite what her 12-carat sapphire engagement ring might make you believe, Kate Middleton doesn’t always opt for the crème de la crème of jewellery. Sometimes, like us, she prefers to wear pieces that are a tad more on the accessible side. At least, that’s what she chose on Tuesday. The Duchess of Cambridge threw on a pair of £10 gold hoops with an eye-catching red sweater-skirt duo and caramel-coloured accessories to give a speech at the BAFTA headquarters in London. Specifically, she wore 14-karat gold-plated twist-hoop earrings from ASOS that are somehow still in stock—for now.

This isn’t the first time that Middleton has dabbled in ASOS’s jewellery section. In fact, it isn’t even the first time she’s worn these exact earrings. In May, the duchess styled the chunky, twisted hoops with a red-and-black Alessandra Rich collared dress and black Jennifer Chamandi pumps for an event at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.

Amongst the women in my family, we’ve always believed in the power of the change-room boogie. The style is classic, but the pattern is modern, and obviously, the length sits exactly where you want it to. It’s the kind of item you’ll wear again and again and again.

Style Notes: I’ve never felt more in touch with Gen Z than when I put these trousers on. The retro pattern is very on-trend right now, and the length was perfect. I usually prefer a slightly higher rise on my jeans, but if you’re into a low waist, these are for you! If I were the kind of person who attended festivals, these are the trousers I’d buy for the occasion.

Style Notes: In my last petite try-on, I spoke about how I often avoid maxi dresses altogether, as they inevitably just end up dragging on the floor. Next’s petite range, however, may have just changed my tune, as the brand’s maxi dresses seem to have the perfect length. I love the pleating details on this dress, it felt like a classic that will stay in your wardrobe for years.

Style Notes: I was instantly drawn to the print of this skirt, as I love the look of gingham and its summer-to-autumn versatility. To be completely honest, this skirt was a little longer than I would have liked, as it felt more maxi than midi on me. At 5’1”, I am still on the shorter side of the petite spectrum, so if you’re taller, this might be the perfect fit.

Style Notes: As one of the retailers with the biggest petite collection, ASOS often gets it right when it comes to smaller sizes. At times, though, I struggle to find wardrobe basics available in the brand's extended sizes, which is why this skirt was a great find. It’s plain, simple and timeless and fits exactly as it should.

Style Notes: It's rare to find cropped jeans that are actually cropped on me, but these were the perfect above-ankle length. I really liked the fit of this pair from Next. The straight leg and precise crop felt very flattering.

Style Notes: Fun, flattering and a bright shade to boot! What’s not to love about this cute minidress? It’s a yes from me.

Style Notes: The first thing I noticed about this dress was how great the quality was. It’s made from a linen/cotton blend and is fully lined. You can just tell real craftsmanship has gone into creating this piece. The dress was slightly too wide for me around the hips (I definitely don’t have an hourglass figure), but the length was just perfect! It would be a great addition to any wardrobe, just throw a blazer over the top in the cooler months.

Style Notes: I loved the silky feel and perfectly fitted bias cut of this skirt, not to mention the length and the pistachio-green colour, which is ideal for trans-seasonal dressing. I tried a size 6, which felt a little roomy on me, but if a size 4 were available, I would be first in line for this skirt.

As we've already pointed out, less is more when it comes to this season's big trends. Specifically, cut-outs. It's a craze that completely makes sense when you put it into perspective–we're all pretty eager to shed the many layers of puffer coats and heavy knits that are currently swamping us. Standing at the distinctly less-than-average height of 5'1", I have always had difficulty finding dresses. Midi hemlines can often skim the floor while cute minidresses intended to finish above the knee usually hover around the top of my shin. In fact, I barely remember the last time I purchased a dress that didn’t need to be taken up, taken in or otherwise adjusted in some way.

Because of this issue, you'll usually find me in separates throughout spring. I'll often pair a printed skirt alongside a plain white tee or opt for tailored shorts and an oversize button-down for more casual days. However, this year I'm determined to become a "dress girl," and so I have taken it upon myself to find the best petite dresses on the market.

Unfortunately, for women whose heights are less than 5'4" (the recognised standard for petite sizes), the options are far from extensive. Very few brands offer petite ranges, and even when they do, usually they are extremely limited, which is a surprise given the average height of women in the UK is 5'3"—meaning a large portion of us fall into the petite category.

Fear not, though: I've searched far and wide to bring you a list of 20-odd petite spring dresses that won't require a trip to the tailor, taking into account sleeve length (no rolling up needed), hem length (floor-skimming be gone) and, of course, overall fit in the bodice and beyond. Often, side splits are lost on petite women when dresses need to be taken up significantly, so I love that Reformation has included this fun detail in its range.

As many will have experienced during lockdown, online shopping is not always a walk in the park. While it provides the variety and eclecticism that is sometimes missing in bricks-and-mortar stores, we can't deny that not being able to try things on IRL can be frustrating, especially when it comes to high-street buys. We're a big champion of the Great British high street here at Who What Wear, and we always endeavour to bring you the best of the best, but inevitably, there are always some pieces that don't measure up in terms of quality. But every now and then, they get it just right.

I've spotted a few winning ASOS coats dotted around on Instagram over this winter, most notably on stylist Hannah Lewis, and have been so impressed with the high-end finish. So I decided to call in a few of my faves and give you the lowdown on the pieces that stand up to the test. There were two, in particular, that ticked all the boxes: one statement-making houndstooth number and a quilted black coat. 

Both came with an oversize fit, which, in my opinion, can be a good shortcut to making high-street coats look premium. The houndstooth style was super heavyweight, which means it hung beautifully and was super warm. The quilted style was lighter but still packed all the insulating powers that puffers provide. Up Next: Spring/Summer 2021 Trends: The Most Important Fashion Looks You Need to Know

The most frequently asked questions I've had throughout my decade-long career as an editor have all revolved around concealer, which is handy considering I'm a concealer addict. Since my early teens, I've suffered from hereditary dark circles, circles that, no matter how much sleep I get or water I drink, insist upon staying. Over the years, I've been able to make my peace with them thanks in no small part to the discovery of brilliant concealers, which help me to blend away most of their effects. I've road-tested countless concealers in my search to uncover the formulas that work best. While there are a couple of long-standing concealers that'll forever have a place in my makeup bag, I'm always up for trying new finds, just in case I happen upon something great.

While talking to my friends at ASOS HQ, my interest was piqued when they revealed that one of their top five best-selling beauty products throughout lockdown was a £5 concealer I hadn't tried before. After our conversation, I started to see the concealer—Revolution's Conceal and Define Concealer—all over social media. So I thought I better try it to see what all the fuss was about. I'm no beauty snob. Much of my beauty collection consists of high-street and (as our American colleagues would say) drugstore buys. But I was interested to see how this frugal concealer would measure up against the products I love and use daily.

What I Liked: Let's talk cost. Currently, the most expensive concealer in my makeup bag costs £38. Do I genuinely love it? Yes. Can I justify buying it regularly? No. Revolution's Conceal and Define Concealer costs £5 and, on paper, does the same job. Who can argue with that? Coverage-wise, you can't ask for much more. It helped eliminate my dark circles with a minimum amount of product, which went a long way in the process, so it's not a concealer you'd necessarily burn through, particularly if, like me, you've streamlined your beauty routine during lockdown. 

What I Liked: As with all of my go-to concealers, this one has a doe-foot applicator, which I find gives the smoothest application (during lockdown, I've tried concealers with brush and sponge applicators, which continuously leave me unimpressed), and it's incredibly long-lasting to boot. When it arrived, I applied a small amount to the back of my hand to swatch the shade. When it came to washing off, it took a bit of effort to budge, so I was eager to see what the results when I wore it would be.

With Revolution's Conceal and Define Concealer in C3 applied to the left half of my face. 

What I Liked: I touch my face a lot throughout the day, but this concealer remained in situ and looked freshly applied until, in the early evening, I removed it with my cleanser. What also sets this concealer apart is its extensive colour range—there are 49 to choose from, which makes it one of the most diverse concealers I've come across. And finally, I like that the brand is committed to being cruelty-free, something you would think every brand ought to be in 2020. But alas, this just isn't the case.

What I Didn't Like: I'm fully aware that this is down to personal preference, but I'm not enamoured with the matte finish. Though, I know some of you will be. If that's the look you prefer, this concealer is definitely for you. But I like my concealers to have a slightly dewier finish. Still, I'm impressed at how lightweight the concealer felt on my skin, considering its matte full coverage. 

What I Didn't Like: I'll admit I was completely overwhelmed trying to find the colour to match my complexion, as it's difficult trying to colour match online. After much deliberation, I ended up opting for shade C3, and I still don't think I got it right. Naturally, this a problem that's currently being faced by many beauty brands, as there are significantly fewer opportunities for potential customers to get hands-on with the product via in-store testers, something I consider critical when looking for new base products. 

Had we been living in "normal" times right now, I'd have preferred to make my way to either Superdrug or Boots, both of which are Revolution stockists, to see the colour spectrum first-hand. I would then handily top up by way of my regular ASOS orders. However, this is where the price, once again, proves critical. I can't tell you how much money I've spent on beauty products over the years that have wound up being underwhelming. £5 isn't to be scrimped at by any means, but its affordable price tag, in my eyes, makes it less of a gamble.

Overall verdict: If matte base makeup is your thing, you'll love this concealer. The shade range is what I, and everyone else at Who What Wear, love (and also need) to see. This level of diversity should be standard in the beauty industry. Why wait for other brands to play catch-up when Revolution is already there?

If you've ever found yourself shopping on ASOS, you've probably spent more time than you care to admit scrolling through the retailer's truly massive offering (and I mean massive). Take it from experience—it's easy to fall into a black hole of shopping when the site stocks everything from dresses to swimsuits at an attractive price-point, which is why I tapped one of ASOS' insiders, Lotte Williams, to clue me in to some of the best shopping picks from the retailer now.

Williams has a knack for uncovering the coolest picks from the site and her outfits always find their way into my saved folder. As an insider, she told me, it's basically her role to share daily style content on her feed @asos_lotte. "But the only difference is that I mostly wear things from ASOS," she said, "which, TBH, even if I wasn’t an insider I’d be doing anyway!"
