Anna Wintour is nothing if not consistent. Of course, you already know that she's worn the same sunglasses and bob haircut for as long as she's been EIC of Vogue—which is to say, a very long time. She also never wavers from her signature outfit formula: a printed midi or maxi dress with knee-high heeled boots. And as it turns out, this is true even when she's traveling through JFK Airport in New York. 

I've never worn heeled knee-high boots while traveling because I can imagine that taking them on and off at security would be quite a hassle—would the chic yet cumbersome shoes even fit properly in a tray? And you certainly won't catch me wearing heels of any sort while travelling, as schlepping through airports is already an exhausting experience that would only be made worse by wearing anything remotely uncomfortable. Anna Wintour definitely looks just as chic as ever, but I personally would think twice before wearing her shoes at the airport. Not to toot my own horn, but I definitely have a knack for identifying common themes among celebrity outfits. For instance, Jennifer Lopez and Hailey Bieber have both taken on one particular swimwear trend. For all of you skeptics out there, no, it's not about comparing women to each other—it's about tracing the evolution of a trend from runways to celebrities to retailers and beyond. 

Now, I spotted another recurrent item: flat espadrilles. Both Kate Middleton and Anna Wintour have worn the summer shoe trend, and now Lily James is hopping on board. This week, the Duchess of Cambridge visited the offices of a charity called Shout, which is a text service in the UK that provides mental health support 24/7. Her appearance was to mark the milestone of reaching over one million conversations. How impressive is that? For the occasion, Kate Middleton wore a dress by Derek Lam along with suede boots by Ralph Lauren. 

Her outfit combo reminds me of Anna Wintour’s (and just about every other fashion editor's) very specific uniform: a printed midi dress and knee-high heeled boots. Anna Wintour's fixed personal style is a key part of her brand image. We rarely see her without her Marni florals, knee-high boots, blackout sunglasses and colourful gem necklaces. She makes a case for having your own uniform when getting dressed. As most of us are working from home and shifting to digital working, Anna Wintour has been present on the Vogue Instagram account. This week, she shared this message with a picture of her working at home: "I know that we have challenges ahead—and please can everyone remember to stay home and be safe—but I also know we can get through it together, and even find moments of joy along the way."

Instead of wearing her typical uniform, we were given a glimpse of off-duty Anna, as she paired dark-wash skinny jeans with a white T-shirt and Breton jumper. This fuss-free look has long been the downtime outfit of choice for royals and fashion editors alike. This is the outfit the Duchess of Cambridge always turns to when she is keeping it low-key and a go-to outfit for Alexa Chung and Meghan Markle. As we all know by now, if Anna Wintour says it's so, it's so. In the latest episode of Vogue's Go Ask Anna series, Wintour was asked to give her two cents on the biggest accessory trends of 2020, and of course, we were all ears. Although Wintour herself doesn't change up her own accessories much (she sticks to oversize sunglasses, statement necklaces and classic handbags—if carrying a handbag at all), that doesn't mean she's not fully aware of what trends were all over the runways and will trickle to the mainstream in 2020. 

In response to the 2020 accessory trends question, Wintour stated, "We're seeing a lot of linen and raffia fabrics that are very organic and natural, we're seeing a lot of very fantastical twisted pearl necklaces and then bucket bags. Bucket bags and more bucket bags, in leather, in canvas, in suede, in every possible fabric that you can think of." So there you have it. The queen of trend forecasting has spoken, and we're more excited for 2020 than ever.

Anna Wintour is getting into the holiday spirit. In the newest video for Vogue's Go Ask Anna series, she was asked several questions about gifting, holiday parties, winter trends, and more—and of course, she knew exactly how to answer each. When someone asked her which celebrity she should look to for holiday outfits, Wintour answered Kate Middleton without hesitation. "She always looks absolutely impeccable." And as for the gift you should give your mother-in-law, Wintour has a genius idea: a framed photo of your partner with your mother-in-law. 

On the winter-style front, Wintour was asked for her tips on shopping for a new coat. "Yes, absolutely," Wintour says in the video. "You should look at Vogue's November issue where we have a wonderful shoot styled by Tabitha Simmons and photographed by Dan Jackson, and the coats are worn by Kendall Jenner. There's everything from a great little Burberry check puffer to a Versace fake [fur] leopard coat, Max Mara red military look, and a wonderful Marc Jacobs [oversized] topper. Anna Wintour’s influence over the fashion industry is undeniable. As the Editor in Chief of Vogue U.S., Wintour has spent the last 30 years deciding which trends deserve to grace the pages of her famed magazine and which should be left by the wayside. In some circles, Anna’s opinion means everything, and receiving the coveted "AWOK” stamp of approval can make or break a career. 

Given the fact that Anna’s word counts for so much, it would be logical to assume people would be hesitant to go against her advice, particularly when it pertains to fashion. However, whether it be wearing head-to-toe black or mixing patterns with unbridled flair, we’ve found several examples of celebrities who have (perhaps unwittingly) broken Wintour’s fashion rules and managed to prove that rules really are made to be broken. 

Whether it was intentional or not, this is an ode to the risk-takers of Hollywood who have proven it is okay to play by your own style rules. Scroll through below to see four times celebrities have successfully broken Anna Wintour’s fashion rules. 

Rule 1: Never Wear Head-to-Toe Black

One of Wintour’s most famed fashion commandments is to avoid wearing head-to-toe black. In a recent segment of the Go Ask Anna video series, Wintour was asked how to spice up an all-black outfit, to which she responded simply: "Just don’t wear all black—it seems too gloomy and as if one is going to a funeral.”

One celebrity who often defies this rule is none other than monochrome maven, Jennifer Aniston. The actress regularly wears entirely black outfits and manages to make it look interesting every single time.

Rule 2: Beware of Mixing Prints 

Despite the fact Wintour often wears patterns herself, the Editrix warns that people should be quite wary when it comes to mixing prints or patterns, particularly, those of us who may be of smaller stature. "One should be very very careful when mixing patterns,” Wintour said in a Go Ask Anna video. "You need to be very confident and usually pretty tall, otherwise you can look a little busy.”

Diane Kruger is somewhat of a print-mixing expert. The actress regularly attends events and red carpets wearing very precisely crafted multi-pattern looks. Funnily enough, she only stands at the relatively average height of 5’5.”

Rule 3: Neon and Fluoro Should be Avoided 

While she has not said it in so many words, it seems Anna Wintour is certainly not a fan of neon colours or fluorescent shades. In a Snapchat video celebrating the US Open, Wintour warned those planning to attend the tennis event, "Don't forget to wear your sunglasses—especially if the male players insist on wearing those ugly fluorescent colours.”

In a separate video, Wintour also told Taylor Swift that "neon leopard-print leggings” were the trend she wished never existed.

Wintour might think fluorescent colours are ugly, but Blake Lively proved wearing the shade favoured by elite tennis players doesn’t have to be. While promoting her film A Simple Favour last year, Lively opted for a head-to-toe neon look from Versace’s spring/summer 2019 menswear collection. Perhaps this suit would make Wintour think twice about her stance?

Rule 4: Don't Wear a Boring Sequinned Dress

Much like neon, Wintour hasn’t exactly denounced sequins, though she doesn’t have very positive sentiments about them. When asked about what to wear to a black-tie event, Wintour explained, "Don’t wear a boring sequin dress or a debutante-style dress just because you feel you should.”

In another video, she described the red carpet mainstay of fishtail sequin gowns as something we’ve seen "5000 times.”

While Anna’s critique that a sequinned gown is something we’ve seen a thousand times may be true, there are people who are managing to make sequin gowns feel new again. Zoë Kravitz wore a sequinned gown to Wintour’s annual Met Gala, and let’s just say that it was anything but boring.

Okay, so maybe Anna's tweed is Chanel 90% of the time, but if you ask us, the tweed selection at Zara right now is really holding its own. It wouldn't be autumn without a sea of plaid and checked separates, and based on this sleek coat look alone, we know Anna would be in full support of the herringbone, tartan plaids and classic checks gracing the pages of Zara this season.

Animal prints are not going anywhere anytime soon, and Anna has proven exactly that over the years. Currently, Zara is stocked with zebra, leopard and the like, and if we know Anna like we think we know her, the following selection would be at the top of her list from the retailer's current selection.

Maybe Anna Wintour is on to something. She doesn't have any personal social media accounts (that we know of), which leaves her fans always wanting more. So when she does cede to an interview, we cling to every word and eagerly take notes. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? Of course, the newest video for the Vogue series Go Ask Anna is no exception.

One of Wintour's responses, in particular, struck us as particularly intriguing. When Wintour was asked about the top trends of the season, she rattled off eight different trends that she thinks dominated the S/S 20 collections, which just concluded last week. Considering Wintour literally has a front-row seat to all the action, you can bet we're all ears. Hint: She listed flat shoes, trench coats and embroidery—but you're going to have to scroll down to see the complete list of the biggest 2020 trends according to Anna Wintour. 

Flat Shoes

Chanel was one of the may shows championing practical flat shoes for S/S 20. Of course, these cap-toe versions are perfectly in line with the brand's signature shoe style. 

Embroidery 

You don't need a beautiful Alexander McQueen embroidered creation to test-drive this trend, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. 

Trench Coats

Investing in a timeless trench coat is highly encouraged, but wearing it with a bathing suit à la Fila is strictly optional. Fila knows that the best versions are equal parts classic (khaki) and modernised (short-sleeve). 

Prints

This '70s-tinged Louis Vuitton look is one of my favourite examples of the jubilant, eye-catching prints that were all over the S/S 20 runways. 

Shorts

During Copenhagen Fashion Week, I interviewed Ganni's creative director, Ditte Reffstrup, who told me that long shorts are the spring 2020 item she's most excited to try. Considering how Ganni always has a finger on the pulse of what's cool, it should be no surprise that long shorts were also seen at a handful of other Copenhagen shows, including Stand, Baum und Pferdgarten and Mykke Hoffmann. 

Colour

Stine Goya is particularly adept at infusing colour into her collections, and her dance-filled show during Copenhagen Fashion Week was no exception. 

Raffia

Set in a makeshift garden, Dior presented plenty of nature-inspired trends, but the one that caught Anna Wintour's eye was the raffia material that was used on everything from hats to skirts. 

Rattan

Michael Kors knows the power of a good rattan bag, as he sent numerous versions down the runway for his S/S 20 show during New York Fashion Week.

As all eyes turn to the street style elite to see their eccentric fashion week wares, there’s another fashion force whose style, albeit more understated, we never fail to be impressed by: Anna Wintour. Far from being a slave to the trends, the editor in chief of Vogue U.S. —a position she's held since 1988—is known for her classic style. Printed dresses with coordinating coats are considered her uniform, as is her signature sleek bob and, of course, those Chanel sunglasses. It’s a look that’s served her well for over 20 years, and one we’ve come to expect throughout the course of fashion month.

At every single show, there’s a front-row seat specifically reserved for Anna in the mere hope she’ll make an appearance. And when she does, which to her credit is very frequently, we can count on her to look impossibly chic and ladylike. Needless to say, her decades of fashion week dedication shouldn’t go unnoticed, which is why we’ve decided to document her best-ever front-row looks, from the first snapped sighting of her sitting pride of place in 1994, all the way up to, well, yesterday. The Big Apple is currently hosting another New York Fashion Week, but as much as I love runway shows, the U.S. Open always has my full attention at this time of year. I've been known to sneak in tennis-related stories at every opportunity I get—but I'm far from the only fashion person who loves tennis. Meghan Markle and Anna Wintour are both attending the women's final match at the U.S. Open today to support Serena Williams, and both are seated in her player's box.

Anna Wintour has made no secret of her love for the sport and always attends Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, and the Duchess of Sussex is close friends with Williams. She watched several of her matches at Wimbledon and has travelled to New York to cheer her on once again.

Meghan opted for a low-key courtside look, wearing a classic denim belted dress by J.Crew with a grey long cardigan and a pair of aviator sunglasses attached to her dress. Next, Jennifer Lopez is literally ageless in this high-cut swimsuit. 

It's hardly a surprise that Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue U.S. and all-round doyenne of fashion, is wearing A/W 19's biggest dress trend of dark florals (Florals, for winter? Actually groundbreaking).

What is a surprise, however, is that Selena Gomez is also getting in on the trend early, proving that this is a look that looks good on everyone. While silhouettes might differ, the print is very similar⁠: red flowers on a black background. Anna went for a Dolce & Gabbana dress that featured bold red poppies, and Selena opted for a Rixo dress (also seen on shopping editor Joy Montgomery) with red and pink roses.

Back in February, Paco Rabanne and Prada were just two of the designers that showcased this trend, with bold florals taking centre stage. But before we've even made our way out of summer, you can still invest in this trend. While Selena's dress is still available, Rixo tends to sell out quickly, and the D&G frock isn't even available yet (plus, you might find that isn't so purse-friendly).

However, the high street and other luxury brands are already stocking this trend. New favourite dress brand Les Revêries does a gorgeous high-necked version, and & Other Stories has a delicate yellow dress that will work for summer as well as winter (all you need to do is swap out your sandals for boots). It's no secret that we here at Who What Wear are enamoured with the personal styles of Meghan Markle and Anna Wintour. While it goes without saying that Markle and Wintour each have their own distinct styles, we've noticed a few key pieces that are essentials in both their wardrobes. Trends come and go, but there's one thing I'm certain about in fashion: Anna Wintour is never seen without her phone and her sunglasses. Before you start mentioning her love of nude sandals, she does actually change these to boots sometimes, so you can strike them from the list. The editor in chief of Vogue and artistic director of Condé Nast always remains loyal to her personal style, and if you're a fan, you'll notice that she rarely carries a bag.

Wintour might be holding her sunglasses in her hand, when they're not on her face, that is, and will have her mobile in the other, but she rarely has a bag. That's not to say she never wears one, but she is rarely pictured carrying one (she has people for that, of course), especially not when she has a red carpet event. However, yesterday, at the memorial for Karl Lagerfeld, she wore a classic silver bag from Chanel.

It's no secret that the inimitable editor in chief of Vogue is highly discerning and her opinion is one of the most highly regarded in all of the fashion industry. So when it comes to the summer trends Anna Wintour is wearing, there are only a few that have earned a coveted spot in her own wardrobe (and therefore, her definitive approval). The same goes for with sweetheart necklines, which she's likely passing on in favour of sleeker square and asymmetric ones.

Wintour's wardrobe hardly overlaps with French girls', but espadrilles and puffed sleeves are the only two exceptions. While everyone in Paris is sure to wear espadrille wedges, Wintour is a fan of the flat style. Where Anna Wintour leads, the fashion industry follows. Without any social media accounts for us to ogle, it's hard to get a glimpse of the editor in chief behind her signature oversize sunnies, but Vogue's new video series Go Ask Anna is certainly helping. One reader asks Wintour about the five wardrobe basics everyone should have in their closets, and, naturally, she knew exactly what to say.

In the video, Wintour says that having wardrobe basics are "very important if you're a woman on the go, a woman with a bit busy job, and you don't want to make too many mistakes." "It's also very important to have one piece that is really fun and different and just makes you feel great about yourself. Choosing what to wear for a job interview can be a daunting task—especially if you happen to be interviewing with Anna Wintour herself. But the Vogue editor in chief revealed some wisdom that might actually put your mind at ease. In a new episode of the magazine's Go Ask Anna video series, Wintour answers a reader's question about what someone should wear for an interview at Vogue, and you can bet we're taking notes. 

"It's so interesting to me how people dress when they come in for interviews," Wintour says in the video. "Sometimes you feel they're wearing clothes that they just bought that morning or maybe the night before, and not something that in any way suits their personality and who they are. I think what everyone should remember, whether they're interviewing at Vogue or indeed anywhere, that we're not hiring your wardrobe. Your wardrobe is not going to be doing the job for you—it's who you are." In other words, never wear anything to an interview that doesn't truly represent your style. 

She went on to give an example of an interview outfit she considered to be particularly memorable. "I'll always remember a young man who came in in a dress and a handbag, and I gave him the job on the spot. You have to dress for yourself. I think it doesn't do yourself a service to fake it." You would be forgiven for thinking that aside from the impeccable fashion, the most exciting spot at the Victoria Beckham show this Fashion Week was the entire Beckham clan taking pride of place in the front row. For me, however, the star of the front row show was Anna Wintour's hair.

Her power bob is something of a beauty icon in its own right, and in the flesh, it's even easier to see why. Glossy, sleek and perfectly coiffed, it's the ultimate embodiment of chic. In fact, even Harper Beckham appears to have been inspired with the seven-year-old sporting her own high-shine, blunt-fringed bob.

But just how easy is it to make this hairstyle work if you don't have the luxury of the best stylists in the business? I spoke to some industry experts to find out just how much upkeep a power bob requires.

First, the good news: It turns out that a bob can suit pretty much everyone. A delightful turnout for me who has always believed that a short, sharp 'do would only accentuate my round face and, er, generous cheeks. Instead, it's all about finding a length that works for you.

A short bob—one that ends by your ears—looks stunning on heart-shaped faces, as it balances out a narrow chin. A longer-length bob (aka a lob) works well on square or fuller faces by keeping everything in proportion. A mid-length bob like Wintour's is actually the most suits-all-style. Make like Wintour and curl the ends under if you really want to frame your face.

In terms of hair texture, stylist Simon Hill and owner of Sesh Hairdressing told us that this style "can be challenging if your hair is coarse or frizzy," as it requires a lot of work. "I think this look usually works best on those with naturally straight hair that is easily tamed, and, therefore, shouldn't require a load more styling."

Similarly, Adam Reed, editorial ambassador for L’Oreal Professionnel, told us that "curly hair, or hair with slightly more texture, may suit a more choppy or looser version of the [bob]".

So now that we've got to grips with the perfect power bob length, it's onto the styling. Not only is Wintour's hair always precisely snipped, but the finish is also always shiny, sleek and perfectly styled. You'll need two tools in your home styling arsenal: a good hair dryer with a precision nozzle and a pair of straighteners. Without these two items, achieving a Wintour-esque power bob just isn't going to happen.

After washing, roughly dry your hair until it's about 80% dry. Concentrate on blasting the heat in at your roots to add volume—Wintour's bob might be sleek but it's never flat. Once it's almost dry, put on your precision nozzle, and using a round bristle brush, continue to dry your hair down from the roots. This will help to de-frizz and add shine. Move your brush slowly from root to tip, almost stretching the hair as you go.

Once your hair is completely dry, take your straighteners and run them over your hair, curling under as you reach the ends to give that expensive-looking finish.

You've cut it and you've styled it, but how do you care for your bob once you've taken the plunge? There's no doubt that bobs require a certain amount of maintenance. You'll need a trim every four weeks to keep the ends sharp and blunt. If you haven't got a fringe, then you could probably stretch this to six weeks at a push.

When it comes to daily maintenance, it's likely that with this shorter style, you'll need to wash your hair more regularly (every other day, at least). This, combined with a serious amount of styling, means you should look for products containing hyaluronic acid or wheat proteins to restore moisture and elasticity to your hair. Always use a heat protection spray before styling to prevent damage and split ends too.

If you're not sure you're ready for the full bob commitment, stylist Neil Barton, owner of Neil Barton Hair, suggests trying a longer-length bob: "A bob that is slightly longer in length is slightly easier to style on a daily basis, as you can wear it waved or even tie into a low ponytail to avoid having to style it each morning."

Try a bob without the fringe like Kicki Yang Zhang for a more low-maintenance approach to the hairstyle.

As someone who has been known to change outfits an average of 37 times before leaving the house, I can only imagine how liberating and wonderful it must feel to have a signature style and allow every look to revolve around it. Many of you often ask us about how to craft a personal style, and that's because it's somewhat harder than it sounds. I'm not talking about power dressing in its first, shoulder pad–poking form; instead, I'm referring to its quieter, more modern guise. Concocting formulas that are instantly "you" holds potent authority whether you work as a receptionist or head up an American fashion magazine empire (hi, Anna Wintour).

Being recognisable and comfortable in your choices will lead to greater confidence and greater success when it comes to spending money on your wardrobe. After all, I doubt that Carine Roitfeld (pictured below) has ever bothered straying into pleated midi skirt territory when she's so tied to pencil silhouettes.

No matter the trends or shifting sands of fashion retail, if you can find the essential elements that make you look your best, you can truly start to build a comprehensive, conscious collection of clothes and accessories. It doesn't mean you have to avoid something unexpected and of-the-moment, but you'll look at these It items as a cherry on top rather than the main event.

Anna Wintour's young style was surprisingly bold. When the powerful editor was rising to prominence and becoming a FROW regular, Wintour's business attire was put to good use. Her evening choices were glitzier than one might think (hello, rainbow dress) while day-to-day office looks remained on par with today's ladylike style (Chanel skirt suits and an ever-present string of necklaces).

It's been 11 years since The Devil Wears Prada was first released, but we're still not over the cult movie. Now, fans finally have something new to obsess over. In a just-released video, Meryl Streep arrives at the real-life Vogue offices to sit down with Anna Wintour herself, and the first scene plays out exactly like Miranda Priestly's arrival to the fictional Runway magazine. Translation: The assistants are flipping out and perfecting every last detail of the office. 

The duo also hint at the movie during their interview. Wintour asks Streep about the most challenging woman she's ever played, and she hints that it may have been Wintour herself (since she was the inspiration for the Priestly character). "No, we're not going there, Meryl," Wintour said with a laugh. "That wasn't [challenging] anyway, that was fun," Streep replied. Excuse us while we watch this video on repeat for the rest of the day. Not much about Anna Wintour is particularly relatable—chalk it up to her high-powered job at the top of the industry or her impeccable designer wardrobe. Wimbledon never fails to attract scores of chic celebrities, but the crowd was extra stylish this year. The famed tennis tournament brought out the likes of Anna Wintour, Sienna Miller, Kate Middleton, and more. As expected with such a high-calibre group, each and every one of their outfits was distractingly amazing—who could focus on Roger Federer's serve when the Duchess of Cambridge commanded attention in a bright yellow Roksanda number? (In true Kate Middleton fashion, the dress was a repeat look from her own closet: She first wore it in Sydney back in 2014.) 

While the tennis players are required to adhere to Wimbledon's strict all-white dress code, the famous fans opted for lots and lots of colour. Wintour, for one, donned a cheery blue Chanel dress, while Miller went for a cool orange-and-black Burberry frock. All in all, we have to say that tennis might take the cake for the chicest spectator sport of them all.

U.S. Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour is highly regarded as having the final word on fashion’s next wave of trends, so if she takes a sartorial plunge and wears a statement print, it’s safe to say that it’s a winner. Case in point, the prolific editor wore the aptly named Anna dress from Altuzarra’s Pre-Spring 17 collection to day eight of Wimbledon. And now all bets are firmly settled that gingham is indeed in.

Gingham has been a print on the steady rise, as we called it in our latest piece about the four trends you need to know now. We've seen splashes of the fabric on the catwalks at Victoria Beckham, Wes Gordon and J.Crew, and it's also been spotted on the street style circuit. But now that gingham has seemingly grown up from its coquettish, picnic-in-the-park affectations, you may notice more A-listers who like its new style direction. From pencil skirts to wrap dresses, at long last, the gingham look has moved on from its prior über-feminine territory.

Not only does this printed cotton fabric spell summer, but it’s a welcome vacation from the typical florals that seem ever-present in the sunny season (actually, where is the sun, London?!).

As the most powerful woman in fashion, Anna Wintour influences far more than the sphere of style, from finance to politics and more—making her one of today’s most powerful women, period. Editor in chief of Vogue, creative director of Condé Nast, a philanthropist, a political advocate, and even an appointed officer of the Order of the British Empire… We’re all familiar with Wintour’s position now, but some might not realise all the risks she’s taken to get here. This brings us today’s story—a roundup of her biggest career risks, all of which (no surprise) have paid off for her.

In 1966, Wintour dropped out of the prestigious North London Collegiate School to focus on fashion and begin a training program at Harrods. Four years later, she would begin her career in fashion journalism by landing a job as an editorial assistant at Harpers & Queen magazine.

After a successful stint at Harpers & Queen, Anna, who had been disagreeing with her boss, decided to quit and move to New York City with her boyfriend at the time.

Between jobs, Wintour had a brief stint working for women's adult magazine Viva. Despite the publication's reputation, while there, she was able to convince top photographers including Helmut Newton to shoot for its spreads.

As the head of House & Garden magazine, she shifted the focus of its editorials to be heavily about fashion, even renaming the publication HG. In the end, this negatively affected sales but simultaneously boosted her reputation as a fashion editor in the industry. From there, she went on to work for Vogue. 

For her first cover after replacing Grace Mirabella as editor in chief of American Vogue, Wintour chose an image featuring a model in jeans. This was the first time a model had worn anything so casual and inexpensive on the cover of the magazine—the printers had to double-check that it wasn't an error—and marked the beginning of the many changes to come under Wintour.

By placing Madonna on the cover, Wintour broke decades of tradition: only models had ever landed the coveted spot before. This risk has become one of Wintour's biggest legacies, as she set the tone for an unprecedented relationship between celebrities and fashion.

The September 2004 issue of Vogue was a record-breaking 832 pages—at the time the largest-ever issue of a monthly publication. Wintour's 2007 September issue has since become the subject of a documentary, in which she appeared in 2009.

As a response to the recession's immense impact on fashion industry sales, Wintour urged shoppers to actually spend when she developed Fashion's Night Out—a global initiative designed to bring consumers to stores to celebrate (and spend on) fashion through a series of events.

As reported by Vogue, there's a new documentary in town that will make lovers of fashion very happy. The First Monday in May, filmmaker Andrew Rossi's behind-the-scenes depiction of the gala, followed Anna Wintour, Vogue Director of Special Projects Sylvana Ward Durrett, and Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton last year as they planned China: Through the Looking Glass. It’s sure to be a fascinating peek inside the exclusive event, and considering what a riveting subject Wintour was in 2009’s The September Issue, we expect nothing less from her in this new documentary.

Chanel’s haute couture fashion show is always one of the most eventful golden dates of Couture Fashion Week. Fact. From the set thematics to the thousands of hand-sewn sequins on each garment to the hot-topic models who lead the charge on the runway, Karl Lagerfeld knows how to whip up a stylish scene. This season, S/S 16, didn’t disappoint, with its underlying rally for sustainability in fashion and eco-chic essence, which served as a clever juxtaposition to the decadent gowns that wafted over pristine blades of grass. Surprised? Don't be. From casinos to supermarkets to airports, Chanel is expert at tempting eyebrows to raise on the stone faces of its front row.

The mantle was passed to the next generation of Karl’s It girls: Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner who served as elegant talking points. The three L.A. girls looked very much at home on the verdant couture catwalk and swapped their yoga leggings for crystal-bead adorned dresses and otherworldly evening wear that few will get their hands on. While couture has notably been much more relaxed this season, it looks like the athleisure spirit has crept into couture.

Gigi Hadid looked confident and utterly elegant in her skirt, trouser and cape combination.

According to T Magazine, Wintour is allotted money to keep up appearances in addition to her salary. 

Apparently it ruffled some feathers at Harper’s Bazaar when Wintour put models’ hair in dreadlocks for a couture photo shoot.

As Wintour's friend tells it, she's “persuasively sexual without obvious flash when she dances, which she does with a vengeance and irritatingly well.” What a description!

Wintour's daugther, Bee Shaffer, says that her mum rises at 5am and goes to bed at 10pm. 

New York Magazine reported that Wintour’s salary was $2 million in 2011, but that figure has likely gone up now that she has been named Condé Nast artistic director.

Some sources cite age 14, but according to T Magazine the signature bob has been in place since age 15. 

Reportedly, the style is nicknamed the "AW." 

"I look for strong people," says Wintour of her staff. "I don't like people who'll say yes to everything I might bring up. I want people who can argue, and disagree, and have a point of view that's reflected in the magazine."

After Wintour dropped out of North London Collegiate School, she went to work at at Harrod's. 

She apparently sipped on a cappuccino at the Vogue holiday party, and has admitted that she never drinks.

According to the BBC documentary Boss Woman, Wintour does not like to stay out late.

At this point, we can't say we're surprised at most of the insane news that emerges from the fashion world. (After all, just today, the powers that be at Lincoln Center announced that New York Fashion Week would be completely relocating as of February 2015.)
