In the ultimate toast to 2019, Zoë Kravitz finally shared photos from her June 29th wedding to actor Karl Glusman. She kicked off the photo montage with a candid shot of designer Alexander Wang, which features her drop-waist, tea-length, scoop-neck wedding dress designed by him in the background.

Kravitz shared roughly 15 more black-and-white photos from the big day, showcasing her bow-accented headband and subtle white flats. While the overall custom Alexander Wang look was somewhat traditional for Zoë, the length of the dress, falling to her ankles, added a unique element to the graceful ensemble. It was a personal choice too, given she has been friends with the designer for years. True to form, Kravitz kept it completely unconventional for the rehearsal dinner, however, donning a white bra, cycling shorts, and a crochet dress. 

The two tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at her father's house in Paris after three years of dating. The star-studded affair had a very high profile guest list, including Alicia Keys, Cara Delevingne, Ashley Benson, Denzel Washington, parents Lisa Bonnet and Lenny Kravitz, and her Big Little Lies co-stars Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley. Waking up, pouring a cup of coffee, maybe hopping in the shower, or hitting the gym; we all have our own unique routine when it comes to kicking off a new day. But one thing we all have no choice but to do is to get dressed for whatever lies ahead. With our constant daily to-do lists, it's not unusual to spend an entire day running from responsibility to responsibility, which is why in 2017, there's nothing more important than a wardrobe that works with you.

It will come as no surprise then that when it comes to the dos and don'ts of getting dressed, the women who inspire our style have one thing in common: They choose comfort and versatility when picking out their outfit.

Whether that means never wearing heels, or staying away from anything too restrictive, six chic women shared exactly what they do and don't do when getting ready. Armed with their advice, we hope getting up on the right side of the bed will feel just a little bit easier.

Don't: Wear Anything That's Not Versatile Enough to Survive the Whole Day

If there's one word that describes Walker's morning outfit decisions, it's comfort. "I never feel uncomfortable. On a normal day, I may attend shows, but I also have buying meetings and I need to feel comfy." For Walker, this means she never starts the day in heels, "I can't work in high heels because my feet always hurt. I tend to wear platforms, and I love that sneakers are so on trend."

When it comes to getting dressed, Mejia has one important rule, "no visible panty lines!" And while picking the right underwear for the day ahead is crucial, she also notes she has one other big no-go when getting dressed. "Being too matchy-matchy (except for denim on denim)." 

For the stylist, dressing is all about dressing in pieces that make her comfortable. "I try not to dress too young," she says. "A good friend once said to me 'if you wore it the first time around, you shouldn't the second time around.' This doesn't apply to clothing that has a nod to a trend but it can't be too literal in design… it won't work." She also notes that when it comes to dressing for work, she avoids pieces that are restrictive or uncomfortable, "it will just irritate me within an hour."

When she's getting ready in the morning, Sabharwal says there's one thing she'll never do, "put my makeup on before I'm fully dressed." And when it comes to picking out what to wear, she says unless she's off to the gym, shiny leggings are to be avoided. "Keep a little to the imagination," she notes. "And if you are going to do it, make sure to avoid underwear lines."

Since her busy schedule leaves her constantly on the go, Lee knows that it's all about clothing that can get you through anything. "Entrepreneurship has left a lot less time for everything else in my life, so versatility and comfort became increasingly important filters for my personal style," she says. "I avoid anything that distracts me from focusing on what's important; so I gravitate toward beautiful clothes that I can live and work in."

When it comes to morning rituals, the designer has one that's pretty darn important, "I never get dressed without checking the weather forecast." Nonoo notes that walking to work every day means that being prepared is key to making through the day unscathed. "Every good New Yorker lives by the weather forecast or faces the consequences at their own peril," she says.

At the Vanity Fair Oscar party, model Lily Aldridge turned heads in Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture. Here she gives a nod to bondage themes, with the upper portion of her dress featuring a cutout mesh bralette, and the bottom portion an elegant asymmetric ruffled skirt. This is the wilder side of the trend and best left for after-dark.

Kylie Jenner stunned in a bias-cut dress at Alexander Wang’s A/W 16 show a few weeks ago, grounding lace-detail bustier and slip with the sportier look of her army-green bomber jacket, also by Wang.

Model Shanina Shaik attended the opening of the new Barneys flagship store in New York City in a black plunging neckline that was perfectly placed over her red triangle bra. She elevated the entire ensemble by slipping into a pair of strappy heels.

At the Elle Style Awards, Toni Garrn suited up via white trousers and a fringed blazer. To ramp up the trend-factor, she chose a delicate bra instead a blouse.

Emma Roberts sat front row at the H&M show during Paris Fashion Week wearing a Fleur du Mal Rose Lace Balconette Bra underneath her semi-sheer top. The mix of evening fabrics and demure coverage make this peekaboo look polished.

After past collaborations with designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Kenzo’s Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, Evian has tapped Alexander Wang to redesign its iconic water bottles. In place of the usual outline of the French Alps, the Evian x Alexander Wang bottles are emblazoned with a large bar code (some black, some white) that, as WWD first pointed out, wink at the project’s support of conspicuous consumption. “There’s a little bit of irony to it,” Wang conceded. As for why he decided to work with the brand, a move that’s definitely new for him, the designer had this to say:

“We don’t just live with clothes and shoes. We sit on furniture. We go to restaurants. We drink. We eat. To be able to take our brand and expand into lifestyle and work with partners that have perfected what they do is something I learn so much from and really stimulates me.”

Touché, and given Wang’s popularity, we have a feeling these bottles are going to fly off the shelves. Although, the larger public will have to wait a little bit to check them out—they will make their debut at his upcoming spring fashion show and after-party before popping up at select hotels, retailers, and restaurants in the coming months.

"Often we learn these skills while on the job," Webb reminds us. "But that doesn't mean that there aren't a few skills worth mastering before you ever walk through the door!"

Understand what is work appropriate for your industry, but find subtle ways to stand out and show your unique personality.

If we don't feel comfortable in our clothes, it really shows in the way we carry ourselves. Figure out what makes you feel extra confident, and stick to it.

Master the power suit! And don't put limitations on it; it doesn't have to be a boring black suit that you hate. You should love it and feel confident in it. Add your own interesting accents to make the look yours. 

Learn how to mask all the unattractive things we need to carry back and forth to work. (Those fabulous "bag spills" you see in magazines don't really exist.) Look for a fun, chic tote that adds to your look.

Learn how to pull it together quickly for the days when you're short on time. Think about the go-to items you know will always come to your rescue. Blazers are consistently my go-to; I toss them over almost anything for polish. 

Learn how to walk in heels! They might not be something you wear to work every day, but if a time comes when you need to dress up, it's a lot easier if you have already mastered the skill of walking in them.

Layering is a big thing in the world of the fashion elite—and it also happens to be one of the hardest skills to master, especially during the hot summer months. From one perspective, layering is a great way to stay cool, because you can remove layers as you see fit—but if you do it the wrong way, it's not a great look and you'll end up sweltering. 

To help us navigate the challenging world of summer layering, we recruited the help of a bona fide expert: our resident stylist Marissa Webb. Webb is very well-known in the fashion community for her top-notch layering skills, so she's the perfect person to tell us just how to do it.

"Layering isn’t as complicated as we often times think it is. There’s no real formula to it, or rules," Webb says. "You have to simply give it a try; but there are a few things to consider while styling with layers."

Usually it’s easiest if you think of the lightest layer first, but I also like to do the reverse. Try a cropped top or tank over your tunic or sweater.

Don’t put limitations on the items in your closet. A dress can easily convert to a top when styled with your favourite bottoms; a trench dress can easily morph into a lightweight jacket. Just like many things in life, our clothing has more to offer then we usually give it credit for.

One of my favourite and probably easiest tricks is to put items together of the same colour for a saturated, monochrome look. For example, try a navy T-shirt with a navy blazer and a navy trench.

Think in colour. Even pattern-mixing becomes second nature if you start looking at colour first; a black polka dot print pairs perfectly with black stripes, a red floral easily fits with a red geometric print. If you’re not a big fan of prints, try solid colours in varying shades.

Think proportion: if you’re wearing something skinny on the bottom, layer up easy on the top. If you're slouchy on the bottom, layer up with slim shapes on the top.

If there's one prominent female figure in the fashion retail world right now who does menswear-inspired dressing better than anyone, it's Banana Republic's Marissa Webb. 

Our resident stylist does borrowed-from-the-boys dressing so well—and you, dear reader, took notice. We've received a ton of questions centered around how to replicate Webb's signature style, so we decided to pick her brain on the matter. As it turns out, it's not as simple as tossing on a boyfriend blazer and going out the door.

"Borrowing from the boys doesn’t always mean literally wearing men's clothing," Webb says. "It's about contrast and proportions. However, I personally do not hesitate to shop in the boys’ section and borrow from my fiancé’s closet. Think of it as your options being doubled!"

The boyfriend shirt is an easy item to mix into your wardrobe, because the fit is a bit looser and easy. To pull it together, pair it with a skinny skirt or bottom for the juxtaposition of proportion. Then toss on a great pair of heels for that interesting contrast.

When styling the boyfriend blazer, it's not always about it just being oversize. It's also about the tailoring and the details. I often pair my “borrowed from the boys” blazer with feminine accessories, like heels or a scoop-neck T-shirt. Or I’ll add a belt to the natural waist to give it more shape.

Men's accessories are there for you to explore! I usually use them as an accent with more-feminine items from my closet. Ties and bow ties I’ll mix with a slim button-down or shift dress. Men's watches get mixed in with my other bracelets, and I actually prefer men's perfumes because they’re usually not as powdery and sweet.

Sometimes you just want that oversize cosy sweater. I wear mine all year round with skinny jeans, over a silk cami dress, or with shorts on a breezy beach. For me, in order not to look sloppy or like a big sack, it’s the play on contrast and shape that’s important. Mix in your feminine pieces, even if it’s just a bold lip for balance and to separate you from the boys.
