Sad to say goodbye to the holiday season? If you're anything like us, there was one silver lining to look forward to: the glorious return of The Bachelor. And now that the first episode has aired, we're eager to dissect everything about it—including, of course, the contestants' first-impression dresses. But instead of speculating ourselves, we turned to an expert to get her professional take on their looks: matchmaker Nora DeKeyser of Three Day Rule.
In the first episode, we saw Nick Viall meet 30 different women, including Alexis, who wore a memorable shark costume. We tapped DeKeyser to break down some of the noteworthy looks of the night, like Olivia's standout chic coat and Danielle's very on-trend dress.

"The shark-dolphin costume was definitely a risk!" DeKeyser told us. "In terms of fashion, sometimes the boldest statement doesn't necessarily work, but it gets a lot of attention—remember Lady Gaga's meat dress, anyone? Alexis definitely gained attention with this outfit, which could work out for her in the end!"
"This is a dress that stood out!" DeKeyser said. "Because of the bright yellow color of Christen's dress, you notice her right away. I am not a huge fan of the lace, silver, and yellow combination (it is a little too busy), but the shape of the dress itself is gorgeous and classic."
"This type of sheer combination dress is very in right now, and it is very flattering on her," DeKeyser told us. "For a first-date appearance, however, the dress is very low cut and does show off a little too much cleavage—you don't want to give your date the wrong impression right way, especially if you are looking for a long-term relationship. That being said, it is still a stunning dress that could be fun for a different occasion!"
"Love that this dress is formfitting with a texture addition! When a dress is formfitting and made with a material like spandex, it can come off a little too revealing for a first date. But this dress is formfitting with texture—which makes it look more classy, while still showing off her great body!"
"Jaimi's dress is timeless and a safe pick for a first impression," DeKeyser explains. "Black pulls the attention to the person's face, rather than the dress/outfit, so I think this dress worked very well for her! It shows off her natural beauty and smile, with a very classic look."
"Jasmine's dress is great! The off-the-shoulder look is very popular right now because it accents a delicate part of a woman's figure—very classy with a sexy edge! This dress also hugs her body well while still maintaining a classy feel. Love it!"
"Olivia's coat seemed to be part of her theme since she is from Alaska. The coat is actually really cute!" DeKeyser explained. "It's just not really typical for the weather they were in, so I am happy that she only used it as an accessory and didn't wear it on the entire episode. Olivia's black sequin dress is classic and flattering."
"Rachel's dress is stunning! I love the color and the way the dress hangs. The one-shoulder look has been around for awhile, but I still think it is a flattering dress and a good choice to give off the right impression with a sexy edge. Red always gets a man's attention!"
"This neckline and dress shape used to be more popular, but the dress still looks great on her! I would've just added a little more jewelry or some other accent to add to this bodycon look."
"Raven's light-colored dress contrasted with her natural, darker features looks great!" DeKeyser said. "It brings out her natural features and definitely is a flattering color on her! The beading on the dress calls for a nice occasion, so I would not recommend wearing this to something any more casual, but definitely a good look for her!"
"Taylor's dress was one of my favorites! It is absolutely stunning on her figure. The shape is classic yet very sexy. I wouldn't recommend wearing this dress the first time you are going to meet your boyfriend's parents, but for a first date, this looks great! It is playful and fun yet still maintains a classy appeal."
"The lines of the dress could be hazardous for someone with larger hips since the dress accents the line of the hip. But Vanessa rocks this dress pretty well! Not my favorite since it could go wrong on some body types, but I like that it is different and shows off her curves in a great way!"
