The hunt for a beautiful pair of worn-in vintage denim jeans can be equal parts tedious and rewarding. But it certainly helps to go to a store whereby vintage jeans are their forte rather than scrambling through mass secondhand stores. With brands from Re/Done to Reformation taking denim and crafting it into new jeans, it seems as though everyone prefers the worn-in, vintage look. Good news is, the versatility of vintage jeans has never been more broad. For casual workplaces, it's not uncommon to see denim contrasted with a luxurious silk blouse, or jeans paired with a cotton white tee and a structured blazer. And for nights out, add a pair of sleek stilettos, structured earrings, and a statement jacket to turn heads.
Alene Schutte, co-owner of Miss Brown Vintage Clothing Sydney, is a specialist in vintage denim, with her stores stocking both designer and re-modified jeans. Who What Wear Australia chatted to Schutte to find out more about her stores and how to find the perfect pair of vintage denim jeans. With six stores across Australia, including Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Sydney, Burleigh Heads, and Melbourne (you'll also see the brand at various festivals, markets, and fairs) there's a good chance you'll be able to find your new favourite denim. Due to the nature of odd retro sizes and a number of styles, Schutte recommends heading to your closest store and you will be assisted with finding a pair of jeans that fit you perfectly.
