I’ll be the first to admit that I love Sex and the City. I watched and rewatched it countless times and always have new takeaways when I sit down through the episodes. When I was younger, it gave me a glimpse into life in NYC and made me dream of one day living there. Then, when I actually moved to New York, it provided this interesting insight into the city I called home. Now, I’ve since moved to L.A. but recently watched the show yet another time. Beyond the takeaways about friendships and dating, what struck me most was the fashion.

Though the show was filmed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, many of the trends feel so current—proof of the cyclical nature of fashion, yes, but also of just how forward the outfits were on the show. Ahead, shop seven major fall fashion trends that were on Sex and the City more than a decade ago.
