Originally coming from Los Angeles, I rarely considered practicality over style when it came to sandals, because I had the luxury of driving wherever I needed to go. However, moving to New York City for college meant walking and taking public transportation every day, and I realized that unreasonably tall platform sandals weren’t fit for navigating my way through busy and crowded streets. (Also, how can I forget uneven pavement?) Although I was disappointed to part ways with my heightening shoes, this allowed me to experiment with different styles and see which types of sandals are the most comfortable to walk in. And do you know what the best part is? I didn’t have to sacrifice style, because it really is possible to marry comfort and fashion into one—the best of both worlds, if you will. Sandals with ankle straps help secure and keep them from slipping off your feet as you run around the city.
If you need that extra inch to look taller (like me!), opt for sandals with chunky heels that offer both height and ease.
Trendy yet comfortable!
If heels are not your cup of tea, flatforms also elongate the legs and are excellent to walk in.
