How to Master Laid-Back L.A. Style, With Fashion Toast's Rumi Neely

With summer right around the corner, we can all afford to take a few style cues from those who dwell in the perenially sunny state of California. As such, we've teamed up with blogger Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast for a new monthly column in which she shares all her current obsessions. And up first? How to achieve that casual-cool, L.A.-girl style that's so en vogue.

"It's about that time to start lightening up your wardrobe and adding some key pieces to transition into warmer months," Neely says. "I'm all about zeroing in on a few wear-everywhere statement accessories and elevated basics. In L.A., it's all about casual-cool vibes and a wardrobe that goes with itself. That always makes things easier."

Are You Am I Delphine Raw Edge Cropped Top ($170)

The washed silk linen and super flattering cut of this top make it stand out. I love it worn with a simple tank and jeans or layered over a dress.

Urban Outfitters Gold & Sterling Silver Wire Earrings ($16)

Pretty and simple and barely there: exactly how I like my earrings.

LNA Fallon V-Neck Tee ($70)

Faded T-shirts are a must for summer denim looks, and I'm in love with the deconstructed look of this one.

Re/Done Vintage High-Waisted Jeans ($279)

I've been obsessed with vintage Levi's for as long as I can remember caring about clothes. Re/Done takes the risk factor out of trying to find that perfectly worn in vintage pair by reworking them for you into more modern cuts. I'm about five pairs deep in these! They're really good with a simple heel and a silk top.

Gianvito Rossi Braided Suede Sandals ($995)

Accessorizing with suede pieces is such an easy way to elevate the textural element of a look while still keeping the overall vibe casual. The braiding on these sandals is so beautiful.

Isabel Marant Feather and Gold Tone Bangle ($710)

This cuff caught my eye when I saw it on the runway, and just sort of stayed on my mind. I love how minimal but striking it is; it would be so good with a little black dress or a simple T-shirt.

Balenciaga Papier A4 Leather Tote ($1835)

I'm normally a tiniest-shoulder-bag-possible kind of girl, but sometimes a tote bag makes life so much easier. I love this updated take on their classic studded bags; it's as sleek as it is functional.

Are You Am I Kaede Silk Covered Button Camisole ($280)

Loose and languid in fit, this camisole has that undone vibe that works so well for spring. The covered buttons are just really pretty, and the rose gold hardware gives it something extra.

Zara Lace Top ($70)

This top is perfect with belted denim shorts and boots. I love the summery open embroidery in black.

Shashi Ava Ring ($35)

One of my favourite ways to layer jewellery is to stack open rings. This one by Shashi is super delicate.

Chloé Faye Python and Leather Bag ($2690)

I find this bag so sexy—the ring detail is beautiful, especially against that leather-and-suede combination.

RMS Beauty Living Luminizer ($38)

I never get tired of trying new highlighters, but this one is a steady favourite. The tiny glass pot is ideal for stashing in your bag, and it imparts the most beautiful barely-there sheen. I love it above the brow bone and at the inner corners of the eye.

Chloé Cutout Leather Ankle Boots ($995)

These are some of the most comfortable heels I've come across. The leather is like butter. The lack of embellishment actually makes them stand out more, especially with their strong silhouette, and I love how easy they are to dress down.

Are You Am I Zillah Raw Edge Slipdress ($300)

This dress is sexy but simple, so it works with anything from sneakers to sleek heels. The heavy silk, raw edges, and low back really make it unique.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment ($105)

I've been using this exfoliating serum for a few months now and am definitely a convert! I use it underneath my moisturizer daily, it helps to pump up the glow.

Isabel Marant Étoile Bart Sneakers ($475)

These are even better when they're a little worn. I'm loving this update to the classic white sneaker—so fresh and they work with practically everything!
