This time last year, New York Fashion Week was the perfect poster for minimalists: black and white colour palettes, polished polo shirts and timeless tailoring. This season, it's done a 180. A new season has arrived, and with it, I'm currently saving so much autumn nail trend inspo from my feeds at the moment. Come autumn, I'm usually drawn to those deep burgundy nail shades and chocolatey browns, but right now, nothing appeals to me more than an autumn French tip manicure.

Double French tips have been cropping up all over my feeds this month, and it's such a fun way to switch up your standard French manicure. There are endless colour combinations to try. Brown and blue would make for a cool autumn French manicure, but I also love this pink and red combo. Opt for a fine-tipped nail art brush or a French manicure nail stamper to achieve those perfectly crisp lines.

I love a sharp lip liner look as much as the next person, but this autumn is all about blurred finishes. "Lip edges will be blurred and diffused, creating softness and a romantic finish, stepping away from structure," explains Brayn. "Textures will be really lightweight, balmy, hydrating and super comfortable. The Hourglass Phantom Blur Balm is a perfect choice to create that blurred effect. As someone with constantly dry lips, this trend is right up my street. If there's one look cool girls can't get enough of this season, it's what we're calling "soft grunge" lips. Think cool-toned, '90s brown shades. According to Brayn, this will be a huge autumn trend. The key? "Keeping dimension but making sure the lip is still softly blended," Brayn explains. "With the newest textures on the market, I think this is going to be a really good choice this season."

As a beauty editor, one thing I've noticed in the last few months is brands launching hybrid lip products that sit somewhere between a lip balm, a gloss and a wash of colour. Maybe it's our collective desire to achieve a high-impact makeup look in as little time as possible, or maybe it's that we no longer want to carry multiple lip products in our handbag. Whatever the reason, I'm certainly not complaining about the do-it-all nature of these formulas, and I have a feeling more and more of us will be reaching for them this autumn.

"The glossy, glass-like finish associated with the clean-girl aesthetic will be really popular," says Brayn. "One of my go-tos is the Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil. Hosted by Mariska Hargitay and live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards welcomed over 20 first-time nominees, including Chase Infiniti for The Testaments, Hacks star Megan Stalter, Sarah Pidgeon for FX's Love Story, and Carey Mulligan, who is up for two Emmy nominations for her role as Lindsay Crane-Martín in Netflix's Beef.

Mulligan attended tonight's ceremony in a dress designed by everyone's favorite minimalist duo, the Olsen twins. And yet, despite The Row's restrained approach to fashion, Mulligan's resort 27 dress is anything but. It's colorful. It's playful. It's eye-catching. The sky-blue strapless dress teases a reveal of a stark-white underpinning at the neckline, overlayed with patterned embroidery. Mulligan wore for minimal jewelry—no necklace, opting instead for stunning diamond stud earrings and a pearl ring.

Maybe it's a me thing, but I've been craving the thrill and suspense of an award show. Luckily, tonight is the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, where NBC's Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay is hosting live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. As a self-proclaimed binge-watcher, I'm all caught up on tonight's nominees, led by The Pitt with 25 nominations and Hacks at 24, breaking the record for a comedy series to date. But it's not just the potential winners getting buzz; it's the red carpet arrivals, too.

We're tuning in to see which designers tonight's attendees are wearing and get a glimpse of which trends will define 2027—or, in this case, which controversial trends. Shailene Woodley, who won her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Hulu's Paradise last week, arrived on tonight's red carpet in a look from Pierpaolo Piccioli's Balenciaga F/W 26 haute couture collection.

The trend in question? Sequin-embroidered trousers. Woodley wore the divisive pants with their runway pairing, a plunging periwinkle tank, but traded the oversize coat for a pair of burgundy opera gloves. Woodley's stylist, Karla Welch, introduced more color with a beautiful collared necklace crafted from Venetian glass by HOWL. The flooded hem hides Woodley's, I assume, very tall heels.

Annie Meyers-Shyer is the creator behind This Oak House, the beloved Instagram account that chronicles her ambitious home renovation, and the author of the forthcoming debut book of the same name. If I hear Amal Clooney’s name, I immediately conjure up an image of floaty layers drifting across the Italian Riviera, or her sitting back in style as she’s whisked across the ocean on a yacht. In every instance, she’s wearing colour, pattern or print, and you can guarantee she’ll be strapped into a pair of tall sandals or towering wedges. What I’ve come to understand is that I’ll rarely, if ever, catch Amal in a flat shoe. Which is exactly why, when I spotted her winding through the airport terminals this week, I did a double take.

Whilst it might not be the most “Amal” choice, her brown slip-on sandals were, in fact, a particularly practical option for her stint in the sky. Easy to slip on and off when navigating airport security, the flat silhouette is also much better suited to tackling the many flights of stairs and miles of walking that come with a travel day.

Still, given her history of choosing fiddly strappy heels even when jet-setting, these certainly weren’t the first shoes that came to mind when I pictured Amal’s travel wardrobe. Typically, though, she made the less-familiar style feel chic, pairing the sandals with a long-line khaki dress to create an earthy colour palette that gave her outfit a polished, cohesive feel. Finished with a shoulder bag and oversized sunglasses, Amal had created a travel-day outfit I’d gladly replicate.

New York Fashion Week is in full swing, and as such, I've been able to top up my moodboard with a fresh dose of styling inspiration. Style Notes: While I expected to see baggy jeans, and even skinny styles, out in New York this week, what I didn't expect to catch sight of was the unbuttoned jeans trend. Yes, that's right—I'm talking about your regular jeans worn without fastening the final button. Taking the "undone" styling trend to a whole new level, wearing your jeans this way gives you an effortless energy I truly believe no styling trick could quite match. Cool and unfussy in a very New York kind of way, I can see the coolest city dwellers across the pond catching on to this soon.

Style Notes: If you're ever stuck on what to wear, I don't think I'll ever stop suggesting mid-rise straight-leg jeans—and New York's chicest clearly agree that this denim trend will always land.
