Last night marked another edition of Glamour magazine's annual Women of the Year Awards, and our girl Reese Witherspoon took home an award for her work in helping to create strong roles for women in film. She took the stage to accept the honor and shared her thoughts on the role of women in the film industry (and the world) at large.
"I think we are in a culture crisis in every field. In every industry, women are underrepresented and underpaid in leadership positions," Witherspoon says. "Under 5% of CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are women. Only 19% of Congress is women. No wonder we don’t have the healthcare we deserve or paid family leave or public access to early childhood education. That really worries me."
The actor-producer–fashion designer goes on to speak the truth concerning sexism as a whole, and we're really into everything she has to say.
