How This Ethical Handbag Brand Is Making the World a Better Place

If you're an avid reader of Who What Wear, you'll know we love nothing more than uncovering new and exciting labels. On a recent Instagram deep-dive, we discovered emerging Australian handbag label Raela—created and designed by co-founders Nataschia Holland and Rae Pooley.

The ethical label creates carefully conceived artisanal handbags in Northern India, with focus on designing special pieces to be treasured forever. The label adopts elements of traditional Indian craft across its collections, with intricate beading, embroidery and crochet, with a hope that Raela "contributes to the preservation of skills that have been passed down through generations".

With a background working in different areas in fashion, Holland and Pooley set out to create a brand that would "challenge trends and the fast paced norms of the industry". Both have a connection to their homeland of South Africa, and set out to honour their motherland and where their product is created, through their work. With every bag sold, $5 is donated to each of their two charity partners, Thandi House (South Africa) and Kasturi & Mehfuza Charitable Trust (India).
