Would you name your baby Zara? How about Nike, Chanel, or Fendi? According to a recent Social Security data study by Vocativ, the answer is yes for quite a few people. The study shows the strong influence that fashion brand names have had on baby names in recent years. For example, the number of babies given the name Zara, which is actually an Arabic name meaning princess, has nearly doubled from 2010 to 2014. The popularity of the name would appear to coincide with the retailer's rise in popularity. Another popular name in recent years is Armani, with nearly 5000 newborns of both genders being given the name from 2010 to 2014. Also swiftly rising in popularity among females in the same time frame are Chanel and Dior. Coincidence? We think not.
