The world was buzzing when news of Pippa Middleton's engagement broke, and we've since gotten more details on the most important part: the ring! We all freaked when the first images of Pippa and her new accessory surfaced, and while the jeweler of the most talked-about engagement ring has yet to speak up, People interviewed top English jewelers to answer the public's burning questions..
David Christopher Allen of 77 Diamonds tells People, "The Art Deco design makes me think it could be bespoke, or it could be vintage. It's not indicative of a particular jewelry house or designer, more of a period." Based on the photos we've all seen and in regard to the cut and price tag, he adds, "It is an Asscher-cut diamond, and in order to get a beautiful cut the diamond needs to be of top clarity. If it is a flawless stone, then it could be £200,000 (about $263,000)."
Guy Burton, director of Hancocks & Co. London, agrees that the three-plus–carat ring is an Asscher cut diamond and adds, "The diamond is going to be at least G color plus." A lower color grade, he notes, would show with the type of halo Pippa has. As Elizabeth Galton, creative director at Mappin & Webb further explains, "Asscher-cut diamonds are step cut, which means there are fewer facets than other fancy shapes, such as a princess cut for instance. This means the clarity has to be of the very highest quality and close to flawless to show off the stunning structure of the diamond." Pippa's nearly flawless ring, which features a six-figure price tag, is a total beauty in a timeless style that most would only dream of!
