We always have our eye out for the next big denim look, calling out novel silhouettes, revived washes, and smart detailing that makes a pair of jeans a hot-ticket fashion item. But it isn't so often than a new designer makes it into the mix. James Flemons, 28, has quickly risen to be one of the hottest new designers to watch—dressing everyone from Amandla Stenberg to Miley Cyrus and appearing on Kaia Gerber in Teen Vogue. With his fashion-forward, deconstructed approach to doing denim, Flemons with his phonetically eponymous fashion line, Phlemuns, is serving up completely fresh iterations of jeans—namely his 2017 version of throwback denim patchwork.
While fashion girls everywhere are falling in love with Flemons's cool Los Angeles label, his biggest fan is none other than Solange Knowles. As Flemons recently spilled in W, Solange began liking (and commenting on) photos he was posting on Instagram. It wasn't long before the designer was collaborating with the singer's company Saint Heron on a capsule collection featuring one of her favorite pieces. More recently, Solange tapped Flemons to design the band's costumes for her Museum Tour.
