& Other Stories has had its fair share of cool collaborations, rivaling its sister brand H&M, and its latest “co-lab” doesn’t disappoint. The brand has teamed up with artist and music icon Kim Gordon, co-founder of Sonic Youth, to create an expressive collection. The inspiration behind the partnership? Gordon’s daughter, Coco Gordon Moore, who also stars as the face of the collection.
The collection—which features organic cotton staples, silk scarves, and brass necklaces—transforms & Other Stories’ basic wardrobe pieces, tweaking the fits and customizing them with exclusive graphics created by Gordon herself. She hand-painted pronouns such as “her,” “they,” “the other,” “the shadow,” and more on abstract prints, using techniques that reflect the authentic feel and depth of Kim’s original artwork, according to the brand’s press release.
“Dealing with the structured shapes of T-shirts and hoodies in this collection was almost like working with empty canvases,” said Gordon in the press release. “I decided to do pronouns because I like the idea of a word, and the sense of drama surrounding it. Thinking of a word can create an atmosphere, and there’s a certain mystery about it…Today, I think women can curate their environment by what they wear.”
While working on this project, Gordon was inspired by how her daughter Coco “embodies the mood of the collection and conveys how easily the pieces can transform into your own look,” the brand stated.
The Kim Gordon co-lab collection is available in select & Other Stories stores and online starting August 31. Check out Coco Gordon Moore modeling the collection below and keep scrolling to watch the short films.
