If you're reading this, you're probably looking forward to Oscars night as much as we are. Sure, celebrating the best films and performances of the year is the main event, but isn't it just as much about the Oscars fashion trends? We think so, which is why we're doing a little runway-backed trend forecasting in anticipation of Sunday's big show.
The Oscars couldn't come at a better time during the year. We're fresh off of Paris Fashion Week, award season is wrapping up, and everyone is starting their spring shopping. So in other words, we have a lot to work with when it comes to trend predictions. And with It girls like Michelle Williams, Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, and Ruth Negga among the nominees, it's sure to be a stylish red carpet. We combed through the ready-to-wear S/S 17, the couture S/S 17, and the NYFW F/W 17 runways in an effort to point out the trends that we think will be huge at this year's Oscars. Based on what we've seen so far on the red carpet this season and what designers are endorsing for spring, we feel pretty confident about our predictions.
Read on to familiarize yourself with the trends!
Given that the fashion world is in love with pink as of late, the red carpet will likely be looking a little rosier than usual this Sunday.
Valentino couture S/S 17
Stars have been shunning black dresses in favor of bold colors this season. We'd love to see this color-blocked Delpozo dress on the red carpet.
Delpozo F/W 17
Lingerie-inspired details are everywhere at the moment, and the eye-catching look is perfectly suited for the red carpet, as proven by Emma Stone at this year's SAG Awards.
Dior S/S 17
Satin is perhaps the biggest trend this spring. Look out for it in the form of jewel-tone gowns and accessories.
Marchesa S/S 17
We'd be surprised to see nominee Nicole Kidman not rocking a statement sleeve on the red carpet. Practically every designer has endorsed the look for spring, and the statuesque star is never one to shy away from a bold look.
Gucci S/S 17
Romantic looks are always popular on the red carpet during award season. This year, the most forward way to channel romance is via on-trend ruffles (and lots of them).
Ralph & Russo couture S/S 17
While last year was all about the off-the-shoulder look, the 2017 look is all about one-shoulder. We expect to see the trend represented on multiple nominees and presenters.
Giambattista Valli couture S/S 17
It's not a matter of if someone will wear one of Karl Lagerfeld's glamorous S/S 17 couture masterpieces. It's who will wear one.
Chanel couture S/S 17
Dress-trouser hybrids feel especially youthful this season, and It girls like Emma Stone, Dakota Johnson, and Gigi Hadid have all recently rocked them.
Elie Saab couture S/S 17
