We first caught wind of Natalie Westling, a red-haired 17-year-old model from Arizona, when she landed the Miu Miu campaign back in 2014, then again early last year when Vogue Japan deemed her one of 15 models on the rise. And since, well, she’s worked for some of the best luxury labels in the business. It’s her new alt fashion gig, however, that seems to fit the teen better than anything we’ve seen so far.
As Vogue first announced, Westling, who has been skating since she was 3, is the new brand ambassador and face of Vans’s SK8-Hi sneaker campaign—a modeling role that coincides with the skate brand’s 50th anniversary. The casting feels like a natural fit for the skater girl who doesn’t just say she loves the sport; she has an Instagram feed full of selfies and two tattoos honoring her love for the hobby to prove it. Looking beyond the unmissable fashion component of Vans’s high-top skate offering, the model’s involvement with the campaign brings with it assumed support behind the function of their product. This is a double win for Vans as Natalie’s style serves as inspiration among both the high-fashion and indie worlds.
