Singling out the one Zara you need for the rest of summer? I know—bold move. But when I came across this striped button-down tunic, endless styling opportunities flashed before my eyes. As a fashion editor (and obsessive Zara lover), I am constantly searching the web, Instagram, and beyond for the freshest outfit ideas possible.
Most of the time, these searches result in Who What Wear stories for all of you to read, but a lot of the time, I'm searching for myself too. Hey, just because I work in the industry doesn't mean my mind is a magical well of endless outfit combinations. With that said, to gain a trusted second opinion, I reached out to one of my favorite fashion bloggers, Reese Blutstein of Double3xposure, to see if she agreed with me on the versatility of this Zara item. Luckily for me (and for you), she did.
The reason I love Reese's style so much is because she is not afraid to experiment with new brands, funky colors, and inventive layering tactics. She consistently creates looks that combine high and low price points, proving that when it comes to personal style, it's all about how you wear the clothes in your closet, not the brands hanging inside of it. Basically, her also agreeing that this Zara piece was a must-own for summer 2017 meant we couldn't not share it with all of you.
In typical blogger and editor fashion, we decided to put this summer Zara item to the test as we each picked out three different looks for three different occasions and shot them all for you to see. Here, find out how to style this must-have Zara piece for a day at the beach, a casual Saturday with jeans, and even a day at the office. To the beach and to work? Yes, it's actually that versatile.
Go on to see how Reese and I style the one Zara item we think you shouldn't go through summer without.
Off to enjoy a day at the beach, Reese chose to wear her Zara tunic open over a one-piece swimsuit, cinching it at the waist with the convenient matching sash that comes with it. She accessorized the look with the It-girl sunglass shape of the summer and a fisherman bag. For a subtle forward touch, she slipped one shoulder down to show off the chic neckline of the suit.
I took a slightly different approach with my beach look, tying the Zara shirt around my waist to create a makeshift cover-up. I wore my favorite rust-colored one-piece to contrast the navy and white stripes in the shirt, and topped the look off with a vintage basket bag and embellished slides.
Whether you're shopping with friends or are off to brunch, this shirt can do no wrong. Reese topped hers with a gingham bustier corset top, and tied the sash right underneath to create even more of a slimming shape on her waistline. This one proves she definitely isn't afraid of a little color as she added a pop of yellow with her shoes. And don't forget her iconic Le Birkin basket bag—no Saturday afternoon is complete without it.
When I first saw this shirt, I instantly envisioned layering it on top of this sheer mesh top in addition to my vintage Levi's. Clearly, Reese and I got the same memo with the denim, but that's because high-rise jeans really do create the perfect blank canvas for a myriad of styling opportunities. In an effort to be a slight risk taker, I chose to play with patterns by finishing the look with my favorite floral heels.
Next up, we put this Zara top to the test to see how it would do in its most obvious state: as a work-appropriate button-up. Reese wore her infamous yellow high-rise trousers, metallic slides, and a bright green bag. We know—this might be the coolest office ensemble we've ever seen, but because we know Reese, we weren't really surprised.
I'm definitely not a suit girl, but I am a Zara girl, and this bold green set really spoke to me. For a while, I had struggled to figure out what to wear underneath it that would make it feel forward instead of dated, and of course, the perfect fit was yet another Zara item. I chose these funky pearl-encrusted slides to top off the look, adding some texture and and fun to the classic suit.
